En un satsang que tuvo lugar en la presencia divina en Chigwell, Reino Unido, el 14 de abril de 2017, un devoto preguntó cuál es la diferencia entre la fe y el fanatismo.

Y esto es lo que dijo Swami:

Joven: Swami, ¿puede decirnos la diferencia entre la fe y el fanatismo?

Swami: La fe es la capacidad de un ser para dirigir y enfocar todos sus pensamientos en algo. Pueden tener Fe en cualquier cosa. La creencia de un niño en la capacidad de su madre en darle amor y atención, es fe; la confianza en su amigo, es fe; caminar sobre el suelo, pensando que este permanecerá tal como es y no se abrirá por debajo de ti, es fe. La fe no es más que todos los pensamientos centrados en algo con total confianza. La fe, en sí misma, no tiene error, si uno tiene fe en cosas buenas, la vida de uno se dirige a cosas buenas; si uno tiene fe en cosas malas, entonces la vida será dirigida a las cosas malas. Por sí misma, la fe no es nada.

¿Que es el fanatismo? La fe sin una razón, sin bondad, sin entender, totalmente fe ciega - es el fanatismo. No hay razón, no hay propósito, no hay claridad o entendimiento - es sólo el ego; sólo porque yo he creído en algo, por sí solo, tiene que estar bien - eso es fanatismo.

La buena fe es siempre lo que es bueno para todos; El fanatismo es lo que crees que es bueno para ti y debe ser para todos - pero, lo que no es necesariamente el caso. 

Crees en tu madre; Usted dice: "Mi madre es la mejor", mientras que alguien más dirá que su madre es la mejor ,porque, en última instancia, cada madre está cuidando a su propio hijo con el mismo cuidado maternal. Así que la fe de un niño en su madre es justificada, así es la fe de otro muchacho en su propia madre; No hay manera de comparar. Si un niño dice: "De todas las madres en la tierra, sólo mi madre es buena, todas las otras madres no son buenas", simplemente porque no ha experimentado lo que otras madres dan a sus propios hijos, es fanatismo. La falta de comprensión, la falta de bondad, es fanatismo.

In a satsang held in the divine presence at Chigwell, UK, on 14 April 2017, a devotee asked what is the difference between faith and fanaticism.

And here is what Swami said:

Girl: Swami, can You tell us the difference between faith and fanaticism?

Swami: Faith is the ability of a being to direct and focus all its thoughts onto something. Anything can be faith; a child’s belief in its mother’s ability to love and care, is faith; your trust in your friend, is faith; walking on the ground, thinking that it will stay as it is and will not open up beneath you, is faith. Faith is nothing but all the thoughts focused on something with complete trust. Faith, in itself, is not at fault; if one has faith in good things, one’s life will be directed to good things; if one has faith in bad things, then life will be directed to bad things. By itself, faith is nothing.

What is fanaticism? Faith without a reason, without goodness, without understanding, totally blind faith – that is fanaticism. There is no reason, there is no purpose, there is no clarity or understanding – it is just ego; just because I have believed in something, that alone has to be right – that is fanaticism.

Good faith is always that which is good for everyone; fanaticism is that which you think is good for you and should be for everyone – but, which is not necessarily the case. You believe in your mother; you say, “My mother is the best,” whilst someone else will say that their mother is best because, ultimately, each mother is looking after her own child out of the same motherly care. So one boy’s faith in his mother is justified, so is another boy’s faith in his own mother; there is no way you can compare. If one boy starts saying, “Of all mothers on earth, only my mother is good, all other mothers are no good,” just because he has not experienced what other mothers give to their own children, that is fanaticism. Understanding is missing, goodness is missing – that is fanaticism.
