Puttaparthi espera un ocupado diciembre 2O12, por R. Satish Naik.

Puttaparthi está a la espera de una "plena acción" muy interesante en diciembre de 2012, para dar una gran despedida a el año 2012, que fue mucho mejor y valió la pena, en las actividades Sai en comparación con 2011. Este año hasta ahora ha sido muy convincente y rejuvenecido, mientras miles visitaron Prashanti, de muchos países y estados de India llegaron en grandes grupos, hubo muchas de actividades en el ashram, charlas muy inspiradoras y dramas por diversos grupos de devotos de visita, por estudiantes de universidades de Swami, niños Balvikas , etc.


Este mes de diciembre, el clima es muy cálido  con algunas lloviznas de vez en cuando. La temperatura de la noche es de alrededor de 20 grados centígrados y el nivel de mercurio durante día tiene un promedio de alrededor de 32 grados centígrados.
Después de las celebraciones del cumpleaños hay tranquilidad , y muchos devotos llegan lentamente a la morada de Swami para celebrar la Navidad.

NUEVA ZELANDA PARA DECORAR Puttaparthi:

"Nueva Tierra SAI", como dijo una vez Swami refiriendose a Nueva Zelanda, tiene la bendición de decorar Prashanti Nilayam esta Navidad. Es una de las primeras oportunidades importantes otorgados a este pequeño país que cuenta con un buen número de devotos DE CALIDAD, que participan en su misión.
Manteniendo la tradición de la cultura local Maorian de Nueva Zelanda, la decoración de Navidad 2012 tendrá este "toque Maorian" en Puttaparthi.
El tema de este año es vivir en el amor que se traduce en Maorian como AROHA.
El siguiente es el símbolo que predominara en la decoración de Navidad, que se parece un poco en forma de corazón.

Colores verdes, azules y blancos que representan el espectacular paisaje de Nueva Zelanda.
El color verde representa la "Tierra", la imagen limpia verde de Nueva Zelanda.
El azul representa "Cielo & Oceano"
El blanco representa las impresionantes montañas nevadas que representan la pureza, y Swami también acostumbraba  dar su darshan de la mañana de Navidad en el balcón vestida de blanco.


Todos los devotos de Nueva Zelanda están muy emocionados por haber sido bendecidos para decorar la Morada de Swami y unos 300 devotos estarían ocupados en este trabajo de una semana. Los devotos de varios otros países también visitaran Prasanthi,  incluye cerca de 50 jóvenes procedentes de Australia, cerca de 900 devotos de Sudáfrica y así sucesivamente. Se estima que más de 3.000 devotos se esperan para la Navidad de este año en Prashanti.
La práctica del coro se inicia alrededor del día 15 de diciembre, y con la gracia de Swami, Mr. John Behner estará de vuelta en Parthi, saludable, después de una breve hospitalización en Bangalore.

SWAMI, NUNCA DEJE EE.UU.:

En el pasado reciente, por su infinita misericordia y gracia, muchos nuevos devotos están visitando Prashanti Nilayam. Incluso entre sevadals hay bastantes miembros nuevos que nunca vieron Swami en la forma física. Esta es una señal muy positiva para la continuidad y prosperidad de la misión de Sai. Vamos todos a rezar para que aquellos devotos que han dejado de venir a los Centros Sai o abandonaron la organización, vuelvan y empiecen a hacer su trabajo con mucho más vigor y dedicación. No importa que haya dejado de estar con Él, nuestro Señor compasivo nunca nos deja.
También es hora que los Centros abandonen el ego y desalienten el grupismo. La posición está dada por Swami, sólo para hacerle saber que usted tiene un largo camino por recorrer en el camino de servicio. Tengo muchos amigos, y muchos de ellos llorando se han quejándo de la actitud obstinada de algunos jefes de los Centros Sai. Esto no es sino una "traición" a la confianza que Swami tenía en el. Si algún miembro se va, y derrama lágrimas a causa de su actitud, entonces es un fracaso total de su parte. Vamos todos unidos a  trabajar en cumplimiento de su misión, que es en verdad nuestra misión.
Nuestra generación es probablemente uno de las mas "raras" y más afortunadas. Nosotros somos los que fueimos bendecidos para experimentar la FORMA y lo INFORME en un mismo tiempo de la vida, y es en verdad una bendición única. Los grandes santos, sabios e incluso nuestros propios devotos Sai de antaño como  Sri. Kasturi, etc Sri. Hislop sólo pudieron hablar de la ausencia de forma, pero nosotros tenemos la suerte de experimentar ambas. No subestime o ignore este don raro. Nuestro Señor ha dejado un montón de responsabilidades en nosotros y vamos a prometerle que no vamos a dejar el camino Sai.
Que esta Navidad traiga un montón de alegrías y felicidad para todos. Que todos nosotros seamos sus instrumentos elegidos.
Deseo a todos una muy feliz, feliz Navidad. A pesar de la boda de la familia, los mantendré al día informados de los acontecimientos de el CIELO EN LA TIERRA como y cuando sea posible.

Puttaparthi is awaiting a very interesting and "Action packed" December 2012, to give a grand farewell to the year 2012 which was much better and worthwhile in Sai activities compared to 2011. This year so far was very convincing, rejuvenating as thousands visited Prashanthi, many countries and states within India visited in big groups, lot of activities in the ashram, very inspiring talks and dramas by various visiting group of devotees, by Students of Swami's colleges, Balvikas children etc.


This December, the atmosphere is very serene, with some drizzle now and then. The night temperature is around 20 degree centigrade and day mercury level is averaging around 32 degree centigrade.
After a little quietness post Birthday celebrations, there are many devotees slowly coming to Swami's Abode to celebrate Christmas.

NEW ZEALAND TO DECORATE PUTTAPARTHI:

"New SAI Land" as Swami said once referring to New Zealand is blessed to decorate Prashanthi Nilayam this Christmas. It is one of the first major opportunities bestowed upon this little country which has a good number of QUALITY devotees, involved in His mission.
Keeping the tradition of Local Maorian culture of New Zealand, Christmas 2012 decoration will have this "Maorian touch" in Puttaparthi.
This year's theme is LIVE IN LOVE which is translated into Maorian as AROHA.
The following is the symbol which will be predominantly seen in the Christmas decoration, which slightly resembles HEART shape with little 

Green, Blue and White colours representing the spectacular landscape of New Zealand.
The GREEN colour represents "Earth", the clean green image of New Zealand
The BLUE represent "Sky & Ocean"
The WHITE represents the breath taking snowy mountains representing Purity, and Swami also used to give His Christmas morning darshan on balcony dressed in white.


All the devotees of New Zealand are very excited for being blessed to decorate Swami's Abode and about 300 devotees would be on this job from a week's time. Devotees from various other countries would also be visiting Prashanthi ,which includes about 50 Youths from Australia, close to 900 devotees from South Africa and so on. An estimated 3000 over seas devotees are expected for this year's Christmas in Prashanthi.
The Choir practice will be starting around the 15th December and with Swami's grace, Mr.John Behner is back in Parthi hail and healthy, after a brief hospitalisation in Bangalore.

SWAMI WILL NEVER LEAVE US:

In the recent past, because of His infinite mercy and grace, many many NEW devotees are visiting Prashanthi Nilayam. Even among sevadals there are quite a few new members who never saw Swami in the physical form. This is a very positive sign for continuity and prosperity of Sai's mission. Let us all pray that those devotees who have stopped coming to Sai Centers or left the organisation would come back and start doing His work with much more vigor and dedication. No matter we leave Him or be with Him, our compassionate Lord would never leave us.
It is also HIGH TIME for the Center heads to give up ego and discourage groupism. The POSITION is given to you by Swami, only to let you know that you have a long way to go in service path. I have many friends, most of them crying, complaining of the stubborn attitudes of few heads of Sai Centers. This is nothing but "betrayal" of Trust that Swami had on you. If any member walks out, sheds tears because of your attitude then it is a complete failure on your part. Let us all stay united and works towards fulfillment of HIS mission which is verily OUR mission.
Our generation probably is one of the "rarest" and most fortunate ones. We are the ones who were blessed to experience the FORM and FORMLESSNESS in one life time which is indeed an unique blessing. Great saints, sages and even our own yesteryear Sai devotees like Sri.Kasturi, Sri.Hislop etc could only speak about the FORMLESSNESS but we are blessed to experience both. let us not under estimate or ignore this rare boon. Our Lord has left tons of responsibilities on us and let us promise Him that we will not leave the Sai Path.
May this Christmas bring tons of joy and bliss to all. May all of us be His chosen instruments.

En 1987, cuando el Prof. Kasturi dejo su cuerpo mortal, Swami Sri VK Narsimhan fue nombrado como editor. Un periodista muy experimentado que había servido en tres periódicos nacionales de la India durante medio siglo, Sri Narsimhan era el hombre adecuado para el trabajo en un momento en el Sarathi era cada vez más internacional. En los años noventa, hubo ediciones del Sanathana Sarathi en varios idiomas como el japonés, nepalés, español, griego, etc 

Sri CM Prakash recuerda que Sri Narsimhan acostumbraba llamar a la revista un "milagro mensual". Era increíble como con una infraestructura inadecuada y aparentemente con poco personal, los miles de ejemplares podría ser impresos y enviados a diversos rincones del mundo. Había suscriptores de la revista, incluso de países como Curazao, Estonia e Islas Rodrigues.


La forma en que aveces la revista se ha "encontrado" a sus abonados, también es muy sorprendente. "
En el verano de 1994, yo estaba de visita en la India, desde Estados Unidos", dice el doctor Raghu Nathan, un radiólogo. "En ese momento, Swami residía en Brindavan, Bangalore. Yo tenía el deseo de suscribirme al Sanathana Sarathi, sin embargo, no sabía a quién dirigirme para realizar la suscripción. 
A la espera del Darshan de Swami, le exprese este deseo a un anciano piadoso que estaba en la cola detrás de mí. Quien imaginaria que esta persona resultó ser el coordinador de las suscripciones en el extranjero para el Sanathana Sarathi! . Vincent Green, otro devoto de Escocia, dice: "He tenido un buen sueño antes de recibir mi primer número de la revista Sanathana. Soñé que estaba en una biblioteca y Sai me dio naranjas dulces para comer - un montón de ellas. Ahora creo que son las pequeñas piezas dulces de sabiduría que yo iba a recibir, a las que Baba se refería. "


Los caminos de la divinidad son los parientes más allá de la comprensión humana. De hecho, él en su manera inescrutable,  escribía los artículos, alistaba todo para los suscriptores y ejecutaba todo el show. Sin embargo, en el plano mundano, Swami ha estado siempre guiando y dirigiendo a todos los que estaban preocupados por la revista. 

Cuando la necesidad de un mayor espacio y una nueva infraestructura se hizo sentir, Swami mudo la imprenta a una nueva ubicación, ahora dentro del complejo del ashram. Es en este lugar espacioso que el Sri Sathya Sai Press opera hoy en día con las últimas máquinas offset y una cadena de voluntarios para ayudar. Y al igual que la anterior ocasión, Swami volvió a enviar a dos de sus estudiantes para aprender la mecánica y el mantenimiento de estas máquina nuevas a Kolhapur, en el estado de Maharastra. 
Al regresar después de dos semanas de entrenamiento, se convirtieron en activos invaluables para la prensa, y en la extensión de la misión de Sai. 
"Ha sido una gran oportunidad y un privilegio ser parte de este esfuerzo sagrado y estoy eternamente agradecido a Swami por el papel que me ha regalado, por pequeño que sea, para ser parte de esta gloriosa misión", dice Saravanan, uno de los estudiantes que se unió a la prensa en 1995. 


La saga del Sanathana Sarathi, no es diferente de cualquier otro proyecto de mega servicio de Swami, de hecho, es muy grande con una historia gloriosa de cincuenta años. Era el que llevaba los relatos emocionantes cuando Bhagavan anunciaba la puesta en marcha del Hospital de Super Especialidades en Prasanthi Nilayam, el proyecto de mega aguas de Anantapur, la puesta en marcha de la segunda maravilla médica en Bangalore, la apertura del Museo Chaitanya Jyoti, o incluso los proyectos de agua recientemente en Chennai y los dos distritos de Godavari (este y oeste) de Andhra Pradesh. Y son estos "milagros de masas de Swami, que la revista tuvo como sus páginas de portada en los últimos cinco años bajo la guía de Swami. 

Con el fallecimiento de Sri VK Narsimhan, en mayo de 2000, la revista tuvo un nuevo editor designado por Swami Sri GL Anand, un educador con experiencia que ha servido en el NCERT (Consejo Nacional de Investigación Educativa y Formación) durante décadas, y un ferviente devoto del Señor.


Con los años, los editores han cambiado, la composición y contenido ha sido objeto de numerosas modificaciones, la estética ha mejorado en gran medida, la suscripción ha crecido de manera exponencial, y la revista ha llegado a casi todos los rincones del mundo, pero el maestro y su misión para esta revista sigue siendo el mismo. Como Prof. Venkataraman dice: "Sanathana Sarathi ha sido el faro de Sathya, Dharma, Shanti y Prema, en el mundo, que ilumina esta época espiritualmente oscura".


En los tiempos modernos, cuando los medios de comunicación se ha convertido en un "juego del dinero", incluso con grupos de medios reputados dispuestos a no publicar nada "que no se pueda vender 'como noticias, no gastan un centavo en pensamiento sin medir su impacto en la sociedad o su generación más joven, y están dispuestos a transgredir y comercializar cualquier cosa, con la lógica de que "si no da réditos no sirve", el Sanathana Sarathi se erige como un modelo a seguir, al igual que todos los otros proyectos de servicio de Swami. Es el carácter de pureza prístina del Sarathi que ha sido aplaudido por cientos de miles de devotos y aspirantes del mundo espiritual en la actualidad.


Si Arturo Salazar, de Venezuela, dice: "Es el mejor alimento para mi alma"; o si Ravi Rudra de Nueva Zelanda con alegría dice "Al leer los artículos, siento que el Señor se comunica directamente conmigo para inspirarme y transformarme para que pueda ser como Él "; o para el caso, si Perampalam de Auckland testifica:" Tengo ahora una mayor conciencia de mi divinidad innata y propósito en la vida, y la necesidad de expresar esto en actos de amor, simpatía, sacrificio desinteresado servicio, ayudando siempre y nunca lastimando ". Es porque la revista ha influido en sus vidas como ningún otro.


En verdad, lo que el Sanathana Sarathi ha conseguido es quizás incomparable a cualquier otro plan de mega servicio de Swami, simplemente porque su misión, modus operandi y los efectos, han sido tan inconmensurable que alteran la mente. Ha trabajado en una dimensión totalmente diferente de otros proyectos masivos de Swami, en una forma mas sutil, poco a poco sacando lo mejor de cada ser humano, y elevando su conciencia a un nuevo reino de paz y felicidad.

Sai Ram - Sanathana Sarathi - The Divine Charioteer.


In 1987, when Prof. Kasturi shed his mortal coil, Swami appointed Sri V K Narsimhan as the editor. A widely-travelled journalist who had served in three national newspapers of India for half a century, Sri Narsimhan was the right man for the job at a time when the Sarathi was becoming increasingly international. By the early nineties, there were editions of Sanathana Sarathi in various foreign languages like Japanese, Nepalese, Spanish, Greek, etc. Sri C M Prakash recalls that Sri Narsimhan used to call the magazine a ‘monthly miracle’. It was amazing how with seemingly inadequate infrastructure and limited staff, the thousands of copies could be printed and shipped to various corners of the world. There were subscribers of the magazine from even countries like Curacao , Estonia and Rodrigues Islands .


The way the magazine has sometimes ‘found’ its subscribers, is also very amazing. “In the summer of 1994, I was visiting India from America,” says Dr. Raghu Nathan, a radiologist. “At that time, Swami was residing at Brindavan, Bangalore. I had a desire to start subscribing to the Sanathana Sarathi, however, I did not know whom to contact to initiate the subscription. While waiting for Swami's Darshan, I expressed this wish to an elderly and pious gentleman who was standing in line just behind me. And imagine, this person turned out to be the co-ordinator of overseas subscriptions for Sanathana Sarathi! He, then and there, took my address and finished whatever formalities required, and when I returned to America, the current issue of Sanathana Sarathi was waiting for me in my home! This may just be a co-incidence; but, for me, it was a Sai-incidence! Living far away in California , the Sanathana Sarathi is the monthly prasadam from Prasanthi Nilayam I eagerly look forward to.”


Vincent Green, another devotee from Scotland, says, “I had a good dream before I got my first issue of Sanathana magazine. I dreamt I was in a library and Sai gave me sweet oranges to eat - lots of them. I now believe it is the small and sweet pieces of wisdom that I was to receive that Baba was referring to.”


The ways of the divine are beyond the kin of human understanding. In fact, it was He in His inscrutable way, who was writing the articles, enlisting subscribers and running the whole show. Yet at the mundane level, Swami has been ever guiding and directing all who were concerned with the magazine. When the need for a greater space and new infrastructure was felt, Swami directed the press to be moved for the final time to a new location, now inside the ashram compound itself. It is in this spacious location that the Sri Sathya Sai Press operates today with the latest offset machine and a string of volunteers to help. And just like the previous occasion, Swami again sent two of his students to learn the mechanics and maintenance of this new machine to Kolhapur, in the state of Maharastra. When they returned after two weeks of training, they became invaluable assets to the press, and in extension to the Sai mission. “It has been a great opportunity and privilege to be part of this holy endeavour and I am ever grateful to Swami for the role he has gifted me with, however small it may be, to be part of this glorious mission,” says Saravanan, one of the students who joined the press in 1995.


The saga of the Sanathana Sarathi is no different from any other mega service project of Swami; in fact, it is much grandeur with a glorious fifty year history. It was the one which carried thrilling accounts when Bhagavan announced the setting up of the Super Specialty Hospital in Prasanthi Nilayam, the mega water project for Anantapur, the setting up of the second medical marvel in Bangalore, the opening of the Chaitanya Jyothi Museum, or even the recent water projects in Chennai and the two Godavari districts (East and West) of Andhra Pradesh. And it is these ‘mass miracles’ of Swami that the magazine had as its cover pages in the last five years (departing from the more-than-a-decade-long Orange ) under Swami’s guidance. With the passing away of Sri V K Narsimhan, in May 2000, the magazine had a new editor appointed by Swami, Sri G L Anand, an experienced educationist who has served in the NCERT (National Council of Educational Research and Training) for decades, and an ardent devotee of the Lord.


Over the years, editors have changed, the content composition has undergone many alterations, the aesthetics have greatly improved, the subscription has grown exponentially, and the magazine has reached virtually every corner of the globe, but the Master and His mission for this magazine has remained the same. As Prof. Venkataraman says, “Sanathana Sarathi has been the Lighthouse of Sathya, Dharma, Shanti and Prema, in a world that is otherwise spiritually dark.”


In the modern times when the media has become a ‘play of money’ with even reputed media groups willing to pass on anything ‘that can sell’ as news, not giving a penny’s worth of thought about its impact on society or its younger generation, and willing to compromise and commercialize anything and everything with the logic that ‘otherwise it is not going to sustain’, the Sanathana Sarathi stands as a role model, just like all other Swami’s service projects. It is the pristine purity character of the Sarathi which has endeared it to lakhs of devotees and spiritual aspirants world over today.


If Arturo Salazar from Venezuela says, “It is the perfect food for my soul,” or if Ravi Rudra from New Zealand joyfully shares, “As I read the articles, I feel the Lord directly communicating with me to inspire and transform me so that I may be like Him,” or for that matter, if Perampalam from Auckland testifies, “I have now greater awareness of my innate divinity and purpose in life, and the need to express this in acts of love, fellow feeling, sacrifice, selfless service, helping ever and hurting never”, it is because the magazine has touched their lives like no other.


Truly, what the Sanathana Sarathi has achieved is perhaps incomparable to any other mega service plan of Swami, purely because its mission, modus operandi and immeasurable impact have been so mind-altering. It has worked on a totally different dimension than other massive projects of Swami in subtly, slowly but surely bringing out the best in each human being, and raising his consciousness to a new realm of peace and bliss.

Sin lugar a dudas “The Princess Among Mountains”, el darshan de la Sagrada montaña nevada Nanda devi, de 7800 metros, en los poderosos  Himalayas, aturde los sentidos y deja a uno sin palabras. Una caminata por la montaña mística es considerado como una de las caminatas más difíciles y peligrosas en los Himalayas. 
Un Escocés escritor y viajero indio naturalizado, William McKay Aitken, popularmente conocido como Bill Aitkenque, se aventuro en este santuario de alta montaña, en los primeros años ochenta, y tuvo una emocionante historia al escapar milagrosamente de un cierto 'desastre', gracias a la Gracia de Bhagavan .

El 14 de junio 1980, yo tuve la suerte de estar presentes en una casa visitada por Baba en Nueva Delhi, después de su visita a la Divina Cachemira. Me estaba preparando para ir en peregrinación al Santuario de Nanda Devi, una de las caminatas más difíciles del Himalaya. Llevé mi equipo de altura conmigo, incluyendo cuerdas, pitones de roca (pinzas) y mi confiable piolet (piqueta), una herramienta indispensable para transitar terreno helado para picar el hielo y sostenerse en la alta montaña.

Baba graciosamente preguntó por mi bienestar, y yo dije que me gustaría que bendiga mi aventura. Mi anfitriona me propuso darle a Baba mi piolet para que la bendiciera. Recorriendo algunas losas difíciles y húmedas de rocas, por encima del barranco Rishi Ganga en Rhamani,  fui ayudado por dos excelentes guías Garhwali. Eran tan hábiles y atrevidos que rechazaban usar cuerdas para cruzar las losas mojadas que descienden a lo largo de la orilla de la quebrada con sus pies descalzos. Iban delante fijando la cuerda, a continuación, se sentaban en cuclillas y me esperaban.

Comenzamos un estrecho barranco que era especialmente resbaladizo y traicionero. No había puntos de apoyo fiables en ningún lugar y tuvimos que irnos. Miré de nuevo al abismo que tenia miles de pies hacia abajo hacia la enorme garganta tallada por el río corriendo debajo.

Por el momento angustioso mi peso colgaba del hacha, y mis pensamientos eran más de asco por mi incompetencia, que de miedo, ya que caería desde mil metros a una muerte segura.

De alguna manera esas tres pulgadas de acero no penetraron a través de la tierra blanda, pero me dieron tiempo suficiente para que los guías dieran marcha atrás y me agarran. Después de un poco más tuvimos éxito y llegamos a nuestro destino, el Santuario de Nanda Devi, llegando a ese lugar santo en Gurupurnima. 
Hubo otros incidentes en nuestro viaje de regreso, pero gracias a la Divina Gracia de Baba, estoy vivo hoy para narrar esta historia.

“You will be successful…”



Undoubtedly “The Princess Among Mountains”, the darshan of Holy Nandadevi, 7800 meter snow capped peak in the mighty Himalayas, stuns the senses and leaves one wordless. A trek in this mystical mountain is considered to be one of the most difficult and dangerous treks in the Himalayas. Scottish born naturalised Indian writer and traveller William McKay Aitken, popularly known as Bill Aitken who ventured high in this mountain sanctury in early eighties had a thrilling tale of miraculous escape from a certain ‘disastour’, thanks to Bhagawan’s Unceasing Grace… Read on as chronicled by Bill Aitken, extracted from Sanathana Sarathi archives.

On 14th June 1980 I was lucky enough to be present in a house visited by Baba in New Delhi after His Divine visit to Kashmir. I was preparing to go on a pilgrimage to the Nanda Devi Sanctuary, one of the most difficult treks in the Himalayas. I took my high altitude equipment with me, including ropes, pitons (rock clamps) and my trusted ice-axe, an indispensable tool for negotiating precipitous icy terrain in the high mountains.

Baba graciously asked after my welfare and I said I would like Him to bless my adventure. My hostess suggested I give Baba my ice-axe to bless. He smiled, took it and began to ask some searching questions about the composition of the steel used in its making. His students knew more about this than I did. Suddenly He produced Vibhuti from thin air (without the usual circular movements I had seen in public) and proceeded to rub it with great intensity on one side, the pick side, of the ice-axe only. He didn’t put any Vibhuti on the other parts. Then with an air of finality He said, “You will be successful,” and handed back the ice-axe.

I do not know what constitutes a miracle but I do know that a month later, on 26th July, while climbing into the Sanctuary, the pick of the ice-axe saved my life.

Traversing some tricky wet slabs of rockcut croppings above the Rishi Ganga gorge at Rhamani I was aided by two excellent Garhwali porters. They were so skillful and daring that they disdained to use any rope and would cross the wet slabs sloping out over the edge of the gorge in their bare feet. They would go ahead fixing rope, then sit on their haunches and wait for me with all my climbing regalia to haul myself up.

We began up a narrow earth gully which was particularly slippery and treacherous. There were no reliable footholds anywhere and we had to make them as we went. I looked back into the yawning chasm that led a thousand feet straight down into the huge gorge carved out by the rushing river below.

I kicked a toehold in the damp earth and reaching up whacked the pick of the ice-axe into the earth above. To my dismay the six inch pick clanged against rock after it had gone in only three inches, not enough to hold much weight. At the same moment the earth under my toehold crumbled away and I felt myself sinking gently with the earth until I was dangling above the gorge supported only by the Vibhuti covered pick. For the agonising moment my full weight came on the axe; my thoughts were more of self disgust at my incompetence than fear of hurtling a thousand feet to certain death.

Somehow that three inches of steel didn’t slice through the soft earth but held me long enough for the porters to back down and grab me. After a few more close shaves we were successful and got to our destination, the Nanda Devi Sanctuary, reaching that holy place on Gurupurnima. There were other hair raising incidents on our return trip, but thanks to Baba’s Divine Grace, we came through all right and I am alive today to narrate this story.

You are the original and you yourself have to improve your shape. Invest time to strengthen your inner urges towards virtues and goodness, becoming impregnable and unassailable from within. Then you can set about reforming others in the planet.
