Y esto es lo que dijo Swami:
Pregunta: Swami, como alguien en una carrera científica, se me ha requerido que desarrolle mis habilidades analíticas y críticas, para poder hacer ese trabajo, pero ha comenzado a afectar mi punto de vista en otros aspectos y me ha hecho más crítico de cosas que no entiendo, como curaciónes y terapias alternativas. ¿Cómo puedo equilibrar esto y mantener la credibilidad de mi carrera clínica, y al mismo tiempo, no juzgar a personas de diferentes orígenes con diferentes enfoques?
Swami: Sientes que la ciencia usa la cabeza, mientras que otras usan el corazón. La verdad es que todo debe hacerse desde el corazón. El corazón también puede analizar; el corazón también puede tener lógica. ¿Quién dice que el corazón no tiene lógica? La lógica del corazón es: "Todo el mundo es Divino, así que debo amar a todos". La lógica de la mente es: "Soy Divino o soy mejor que los demás, así que no debo amarlos." La lógica del corazón es que todo ha sido creado por Dios, todo ha salido de la Divinidad, entonces todo debería tener algo de Divinidad en sí mismo.
¿Cómo puede, un dulce hecho de jarabe de azúcar, no tener un poco de azúcar en él? Del mismo modo, toda la creación es Divina, esa es la lógica del corazón. Esta es lo que se debe aplicar.
Es una forma muy limitada de pensar, que estas sean dos cosas diferentes. Si está cocinando alimentos, o si está enseñando a estudiantes, o si está trabajando en su profesión o si es un científico o un médico, para todo, necesitas usar la cabeza, pero una cabeza motivada por el corazón, que se ocupará de todo.
Al final, deben pensar sólo desde el corazón; la cabeza solo va a llevar a cabo las órdenes del corazón. No piensen que es la cabeza lo que funciona, incluso cuando está haciendo su ciencia. ¿Qué es la ciencia después de todo? Es para mejorar a la sociedad. Si hay otro propósito para la ciencia, es un desperdicio. No es para probar la supremacía de uno sobre el otro, ni para establecer la superioridad de su conocimiento sobre el de los demás. Esa no es la razón para la ciencia. La ciencia está ahí para mejorar a la sociedad, y si eso está sucediendo, entonces eso es espiritualidad. Ya se trate de la ciencia de la medicina, la ciencia de la tecnología, la ciencia de la educación, la comunicación, el transporte, todo esto es para ayudar a la sociedad.
Cuando la cabeza está motivada por el corazón, la cabeza se convierte en un servidor del corazón y hace su trabajo.
Esto debe aplicarse incluso en su profesión. '¿Por qué estoy haciendo este trabajo? Porque tiene el resultado final de mejorar algo. Si lo haces con la sensación de ayudar a las personas, tu cabeza se convertirá en un servidor de tu corazón. Deberías hacer lo mismo en tu vida personal, también.

And here is what Swami said:
Question: Swami, as someone in a scientific career, I have been required to develop my analytical and critical skills, in order to do that work – but, it has started to affect my outlook in other aspects and it has made me more critical and judgmental of things which I do not understand, like healing and alternative therapies. How do I balance this and maintain the credibility of my clinical career, but at the same time, not judge people from different backgrounds with different approaches?
Swami: You feel that science uses the head, whereas other relationships use the heart. The truth is, everything needs to be done from the heart. The heart can also analyse; the heart can also have logic. Who says that the heart doesn't have logic? The heart’s logic is, ‘Everybody is Divine, so I must love everyone.’ The mind’s logic is, ‘I am Divine or I am better than others, so I must not love them.’ The heart’s logic is that everything has been created by God, everything has come out of Divinity, so everything should have some Divinity in itself. How can a sweet made out of sugar syrup not have a little bit of sugar in it? Likewise, the whole of creation is Divine – that is the logic of the heart. It still applies.
It is a very limited way of thinking that these are two different things. If you are cooking food, or if you are teaching students, or if you are doing your profession or you are a scientist or a doctor – for everything, you need to use your head, but the head motivated by the heart will take care of everything.
At the end of it, it is only from the heart that you must think; the head is only going to carry out the command. Don’t think that it is the head that is working even when you are doing your science. What is science after all? It is for the improvement of society. If there is any other purpose for science, it is a waste. It is not to prove the supremacy of one over the other, or to establish the superiority of one’s knowledge over that of others’. That is not the reason for science. Science is there to improve the way society is, and if that is happening, then that is again spirituality. Whether it is the science of medicine, the science of technology, the science of education, communication, transport – all this is to help society. When the head is motivated by the heart, the head becomes a servant of the heart and does its work. This you should apply even in your profession. ‘Why am I doing this work? Because it has the end result of improving something. If you do it with the feeling of helping people, your head will become a servant of your heart. You should do the same in your personal life, too.
