El mejor camino hacia Dios ...

¿Cuál es el mejor camino hacia Dios?

El hombre está en la búsqueda de obtener lo mejor para sí mismo.Tanto si se trata de seleccionar un lápiz para escribir o un compañero/a de vida con quien compartir una relación, la persona busca lo mejor.

"Mejor" . El término tiene diferentes significados para diferentes personas. 

La "mejor" pluma podría significar la más suave para escribir, la que dure mas, o la más barata, en función de la persona que esta definiendo el término. Por lo tanto, se hace muy difícil responder a la pregunta, "¿Cuál es la mejor pluma?" .
También he enfrentado un problema similar cuando la gente me pregunta, " ¿Cuál es la mejor cámara para comprar? ".

En la espiritualidad, también, cuando uno se pregunta, "¿Cual es la mejor manera  para llegar a Dios? ", se hace una pregunta difícil de responder. 
Ya que es difícil de responder, "mejoremos" su significado. ¿Que significa, la manera más rápida, o la manera más fácil?.

Tradicionalmente, se ha dicho que hay tres maneras de llegar a Dios: 

1. El Bhakti Marga (camino de la devoción) - Bhakti Yoga es el camino de la devoción, la emoción, el amor, la compasión y el servicio a Dios. Todas las acciones se realizan en el contexto de recordar lo Divino. Se trata de cantar las glorias del Señor,  oír y hablar de ellas , hacer Japam (repetición del nombre) etc .

2. El Karma Marga (camino de la acción) - Karma Yoga es el camino de la acción, el servicio a los demás, la atención, y recordando quien somos y a quien servimos, sin dejar de cumplir nuestras acciones o karma en el mundo. Se trata de participar en el servicio a los necesitados, ayudando a los menos afortunados, etc. 

3. El Jnana Marga (camino del conocimiento) - Jnana Yoga es el camino del conocimiento, la sabiduría, la introspección y la contemplación. Se trata de la exploración profunda de la naturaleza de nuestro ser, sistemáticamente y dejando a un lado las identidades falsas. 

También hay otro camino llamado como el Raja Marga. Pero no voy a entrar en eso simplemente porque no he oído a mi maestro, Swami ( Bhagavan Sri Sathya Sai Baba ) hablar mucho sobre el. 

Aun cuando las tres formas se han presentado, surge la pregunta: "Las tres maneras están muy bien clasificadas, pero cual de ellos es el mejor?"


Porque la duda.

Esta duda surge debido a la "indigestión en la cabeza", como dice Swami. Swami ha hablado mucho sobre el poder del amor y la devoción. Cuando uno lo oye, se siente como el mejor camino. Pero Él también ha hablado sobre el servicio y la forma en que las manos que ayudan son más santas que los labios que oran. También ha habido discursos donde Él ha afirmado categóricamente que ninguna cantidad de oración o servicio es de ninguna utilidad, si uno no se da cuenta de que todo es la manifestación de lo divino. 
Parece como si cada camino es supremo, cuando Swami habla sobre ellos. 


"¿Cuál es el mejor camino para mí? "

Dos analogías de Swami, arrojan mucha luz sobre esta duda. No he 'oído' esto directamente de Swami, pero a partir de los ancianos, es para quienes Swami aclaró el tema. 

La primera analogía trata un punto hermoso. Dice: "No preguntes cual es el mejor camino. En su lugar, pregunta - "¿Cuál es el mejor camino para mí? " .
La analogía, en combinación con la técnica de reconocer qué parte del discurso de Swami es para uno mismo, hace las cosas mas claras.

La analogía de tres ruedas ...

El camino hacia Dios, o uno mismo, se hace a través de un vehículo de tres ruedas. Cada rueda representa, respectivamente, el Bhakti Marga, el Karma Marga y el Jnana Marga.

Sobre la base de la propia inclinación y aptitud, se puede colocar una de ellas como la rueda delantera. Pero las otras dos ruedas también son importantes. Así, se puede elegir cantar bhajans y hacer namasmarana . Eso no exime de hacer servicio y preguntándonos sobre la realidad del yo. Lo mismo vale para un ocupado en el servicio o la meditación, no hay exención de los otros dos. 
Esto se debe a que, todos, los tres, son necesarios, si uno tiene que avanzar hacia su meta. 
El Sí mismo o Dios. El corolario de esta analogía, es que si una persona del camino de la devoción, dice que él no se preocupa por servir a los demás o darse cuenta de su realidad , entonces, no esta en realidad en un camino! .
De la misma manera, uno no puede encerrarse en la habitación diciendo: "No voy a servir a nadie ni hacer adoración alguna. Solo voy a darme cuenta de lo divino en mi interior. 

" Adi Shankaracharya, el máximo exponente de la filosofía Advaita (no dualismo) es universalmente reconocido por haber seguido el Jnana Marga. 
Sin embargo, él es el autor de muchos himnos en alabanza del Señor, incluyendo el Madhurashtakam, que es sólo una descripción de la belleza del Señor Krishna!

La analogía del reloj ...

La segunda analogía es muy hermosa y de gran alcance. En ella se establecen dudas sobre el descanso, y muestra la armonía que existe entre cada uno de estos 'caminos'. 

Swami dijo esto el 28 de marzo de 1968 en un discurso en Venkatagiri. Él lo ha mencionado en muchas otras ocasiones también. Así es como Swami lo expuso. 
...Cuando se considera un reloj, hay tres agujas en él. La primera aguja da la hora, otra es un minutero y la tercera es el segundero. 
La tercera aguja viaja muy rápido, moviéndose alrededor de los 12 números en 60 segundos, mientras que durante este tiempo, la aguja de los minutos se mueve sólo una pequeña marca o división. Después de que la aguja de minutos se mueve sesenta divisiones, se mueve la manecilla de la hora en una marca mas. 
Sesenta segundos hacen un minuto y sesenta minutos hacen una hora. 
El segundero es el Karma Yoga, o el camino de la acción. Es fácil de hacer una buena acción y uno tiene que seguir haciéndolo. El minutero es Bhakti Yoga o el sendero de la devoción. Cuando uno hace muchas buenas acciones, uno obtiene buenos pensamientos y nobles - pensamientos dignos de ofrecer al Señor. La aguja de la hora, es el Jnana Yoga o el camino de la sabiduría. Cuando uno está saturado con muchos pensamientos buenos y nobles, uno obtiene conocimiento de uno mismo, o del ser o de Dios. 

Así las tres , la acción, la devoción y el conocimiento son una necesidad. No se pueden mover sin la otra y una pierde sentido sin al otra! .

Swami añade, además, que debido a que el segundero y el minutero, viajan relativamente rápido, somos capaces de ver su movimiento. La hora viaja lentamente, no somos capaces de ver su movimiento. Pero mientras hacemos el bien y obtener buenos sentimientos, debemos saber que estamos progresando.

SAI es la culminación de los tres! .

Me sentí convencido de una cosa, no puedo decir que no voy a servir, sólo porque me gusta cantar bhajans. Tampoco puedo decir que no asistiré a bhajans, ya que es suficiente con que me siente en mi habitación a meditar. Cuando uno está en el camino,  encuentra alegría en  las tres - Karma, Bhakti y Jnana - y lo hace los tres también!

Y después, recibí una confirmación a través de la imagen de arriba, en la página web de Radiosai. Nadie puede dudar de Su nombre(SAI), en sí encarna los tres caminos !

Best path to God...

Which is the best way to God?

Man is on the quest to get the best for himself. Whether it is selecting a pen for writing or a life-partner to share a relationship with, the person seeks the best. The term ‘best’ has different meaning for different people. The ‘best’ pen could mean either the smoothest writing one, the longest lasting one or the cheapest one available depending on the person who is defining that term. So it becomes very difficult to answer the question,
“Which is the best pen?”
I have also faced a similar problem when people ask me,“Which is the best camera to buy?”

In spirituality too, when one asks,
“Which is the best way to God/fulfillment?”, it becomes a tough question to answer because it is difficult to answer what ‘best’ means. Does it mean the fastest way; or the easiest way; or the simplest way? 

Traditionally, it has been said that there are three ways to God:

1. The Bhakti Marga (Path of devotion) - Bhakti Yoga is the path of devotion, emotion, love, compassion and service to God. All actions are done in the context of remembering the Divine. It involves singing the Lord’s glories, hearing them, talking about them, Japam etc.

2. The Karma Marga (Path of action) - Karma Yoga is the path of action, service to others, mindfulness, and remembering the levels of our being while fulfilling our actions or karma in the world. It involves engaging in serving the needy, helping the less-fortunate etc.

3. The Jnana Marga (Path of knowledge) - Jnana Yoga is the path of knowledge, wisdom, introspection and contemplation. It involves deep exploration of the nature of our being by systematically exploring and setting aside false identities.

There is also another path called as the Raja Marga. But I shall not go into that simply because I have not heard my master, Swami (Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba) speak much about it. Even when the three ways have been presented, the question arises,
“Three ways are fine for classification; which one among them is the best?”


Cause for doubt.

This doubt arises because of ‘indigestion in the head’ as Swami puts it. Swami has spoken a lot about the power of love and devotion. When one hears it, it feels as the best path. But He has also spoken about service and how it is supreme - hands that help are holier than lips that pray. Again, there have been discourses where He has categorically stated that no amount of service or prayer is of any use if one does not realize that everything is the manifestation of the divine. It appears as though each path is supreme when Swami speaks about it.

Two analogies from Swami throw a lot of light on this doubt. I have not ‘heard’ these directly from Swami but from elders for whom Swami clarified the same.

The first analogy drives home a beautiful point. It says,
“Do not ask which is the best path. Instead, ask - ‘Which is the best path for me?’ “
The analogy, combined with the technique to recognize which part of Swami’s discourse is meant for oneself makes things so clear.

The three-wheeler analogy...

The journey to God or oneSelf is made through a three-wheeler. Each wheel represents respectively the Bhakti Marga, the Karma Marga and the Jnana Marga. Based on one’s inclination and aptitude, one can place either of them as the front wheel. But the other two wheels are important too.

So, one can choose to sing bhajansand do namasmarana. That does not exempt one from doing service and inquiring into the Reality of the Self. The same holds good for one engaged in service or meditation - no exemption from the other two. This is because, all the three are necessary if one has to proceed towards one’s goal - oneself or God.

The corollary to this analogy is that if a person of the path of devotion says that he does not care about serving others or realizing his reality, then, he is actually not on any path! The same way, one cannot lock oneself up in the room saying,
“I will serve none nor worship none. I shall realize the divine within.”

Adi Shankaracharya, the greatest exponent of the Advaita philosophy (non-dualism) is universally regarded to have followed the Jnana Marga. But, he is the composer of many hymns in praise of the Lord - including the Madhurashtakam which is just a description of the beauty of Lord Krishna!

The clock analogy...

The second analogy is very beautiful and powerful. It lays all doubts to rest and shows the harmony that exists between each of these ‘paths’. Swami told this on the 28th of March, 1968 in a discourse at Venkatagiri. He has mentioned it on many other occasions as well. This is how Swami put it.

When you consider a clock, there are three hands on it. One is a second hand, another is a minute-hand and the third one is the hour-hand. The second-hand travels very fast, moving round the 12 numbers in 60 seconds, while, during this time, the minute hand moves through only the little mark or division. After the minute-hand travels through sixty divisions, the hour hand moves through one hour. Sixty seconds make one minute and sixty minutes make one hour.

The second-hand is Karma Yoga or the path of action. It is easy to do a good deed and one has to keep doing them. The minute-hand is Bhakti Yoga or the path of devotion. When one does many good deeds, one gets good and noble thoughts - thoughts worthy of offering to the Lord. The hour-hand is the Jnana Yoga or the path of wisdom. When one is saturated with many good and noble thoughts, one gets an insight.

So, all the three- action, devotion and knowledge are a must. One cannot move without the other and one loses meaning without the other! Swami further adds that because the second-hand and the minute-hand travel relatively fast, we are able to see their motion. The hour-hand travels slowly, we are not able to see its movement. But as long as we do good and get good feelings, we should know that we are progressing.

SAI is the culmination of The Three!

I felt convinced of one thing, I can never say that I will not serve because I like only singing bhajans. Nor can I say that I shall not attend bhajans because it is enough if I sit in my inner room and meditate. When one is on The Path, one finds joys in all the three - Karma, Bhakti and Jnana - and does all the three too!

And then, I got a confirmation through the above beautiful illustration on the Radiosai website. Nobody can have any doubt for His name itself embodies all the three! :)

Celebrando la gran culminación del mes sagrado del Ramadán y la llegada del nuevo mes, Eid-Ul-Fitr, los estudiantes de postgrado del  Instituto de Enseñanza Superior Sri Sathya Sai de Prashanti Nilayam, hicieron una presentación completa esta noche aquí en Prashanti Nilayam.


La presentación conllevaba discusiones sobre conceptos sagrados y el significado de la festividad, entrelazados con canciones, cantando paens a Allah. ¿Cómo el mes de  penitencia  ayuda al buscador a entregarse, purificando su corazón, en busca de 'Alá', fue explicado lucidamente,  haciendo hincapié en los detalles más finos, por medio de las discusiones frescas, que involucran ha diferentes hombres religiosos y fuera de la religión, que tienen fondo islámico. Hablaron de lo que implica la fiesta, un grupo de niños vestidos con turbantes típico islámico, realizó la 'Namaz', la oración musulmana, con música de fondo de sagrados cánticos religiosos del Santo Corán.


Transmitido el mensaje esencial que todas las religiones conducen a la Meta, que solo hay un solo Dios, la presentación concluyó con una observación final, que Prashanti Nilayam la capital espiritual del mundo, es la destino final de la humanidad entera, en el que Bhagavan pronunció un mensaje muy simple de la unidad de todas las religiones.


Todo el programa se entrelazo con hermosas canciones, cantando paens a Allah.


Los Bhajans continuaron por algún tiempo antes del Mangala Arathi que se ofreció a las 18:05 hrs.

Celebrating the grand culmination of the holy month of Ramadan and the advent of the new month, Eid-Ul-Fitr, postgraduate students of Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Learning, Prasanthi Nilayam gave a comprehensive presentation this evening here in Prasanthi Nilayam.


The presentation entailed discussions on the holy concepts and significance of the festivity, intertwined with songs, singing paens to Allah. How the month-long penance help the seeker to turn in, purifying his heart, seeking ‘Allah’ within was lucidly explained, stressing on finer details, by way of discussions involving a fresher, from outside the religion, with different religious men having Islamic background. Discussing what entails the festivity, a group of turbaned boys clad in typical Islamic wear performed ‘Namaz’, the Muslim prayer, to the backdrop music of holy religious chantings from the Holy Qu’ran.


Airing the essential message that all religions leading to the One Goal, One God, the presentation ended with a concluding remark that Prasanthi Nilayam, the spiritual capital of the world, wherein Bhagawan delivered the most simplistic message of oneness of all religions, is the final destination for the entire mankind.


The entire programme was entwined with beautiful songs, singing paens to Allah.


Bhajans continued for sometime before Mangala Arathi was offered at 1805 hrs.

Know that your mind is but a pattern of desires, woven with the warp and woof of the same material. When Rama (God) enters your mind, kama (desire) flees away. This state is called the death of the mind (Mano-naashana) or the merging of your mind (Mano-laya). Each one of you must make your own heart an abode of peace (Prashanthi Nilayam). Analyse your words, deeds and thoughts. Get rid, slowly but surely, of the evil ones that harm you and others. Cultivate fortitude, firm peace and speak only the truth. Let this transformation begin, this very moment in you!
