20 de octubre 1940. Fue un día como hoy, hace setenta años, que Bhagavan Baba dio a conocer el
misterio que rodeaba su nacimiento, vida y misión. Declaró a la gente cercana, y ha través de ellos a toda
la humanidad, que de hecho es la Conciencia Suprema encarnada en una forma diminuta y encantadora.
"Ya no soy tu Sathya, soy Sai ... yo tengo mi trabajo, mis devotos me están llamando ...",.... anunció
Desde entonces, este depósito eterno de la energía y empatía, esperanza y felicidad, consuelo y socorro,
de luz y amor, nos ha alimentado y nutrido, y aseguró que la pequeña semilla de bondad latente dentro de
cada individuo, se convierta en un gigantesco árbol de amor y serenidad.
Y al igual que un maestro perfecto, Él lo ha demostrado, por vivir ese principio, en todos los
momentos de su propia vida. El resultado es un legado que continuará luminiscente, para iluminar los
oscuros callejones de la conciencia colectiva de la humanidad, elevándola a un estado de sublimidad
absoluta para las generaciones venideras.
"Leyenda de amor - Legados de vida" busca captar algunos aspectos destacados más importantes de esta
saga gloriosa de amor puro. Este documental de Radio Sai de 30 episodios, se inició el 20 de octubre de
2010 en Radio Sai, para continuar diariamente hasta 19 de noviembre, de 2010.

Episodio 9: Sai Baba y el renacimiento de los valores eternos.
En 1957, Sai Baba ha presidido la 9ª Convencion vida divina para toda la India que se llevó a cabo en Venkatagiri. Fue un evento de referencia destinado a revivir la gloria de la cultura india y la espiritualidad a una década del fin del colonialismo británico.

La ciudad de Venkatagiri se llenó de delegados, visitantes y devotos. Había un gran número de renunciantes de todas partes. Un palanquín magnífico cubierto de flores fue colocado en la puerta principal del Palacio Venkatagiri para Sai Baba , para entrar al teatro para la primera sesión. Cuando Baba salió y vio este símbolo de pompa, Él negó cortésmente el honor. El Raja de Venkatagiri trató que Baba lo reconsidere, pero Él dijo: " Hay tantos monjes aquí; me gustaría caminar con ellos ." Era de hecho una galaxia distinguida de hombres santos, entre ellos Swami Sadananda, Swami Satchidananda, Swami Atmaswarupananda, y Swami Srinivasananda.

En su discurso de apertura, Baba dijo que la vida divina es la inspiración, el derecho de nacimiento, el motivo de la fuerza, el alfa y omega de todo en la creación; desde el microcosmos al macrocosmos. La vida divina es la lluvia que cae de las nubes de la verdad, el amor y la no violencia . Comprende todos los actos realizados en la búsqueda de la realidad. Al igual que la mantequilla se encuentra dentro de la leche, en el interior de cada individuo es el deseo de alcanzar la divinidad, tras la ilusión de las cosas materiales. Como uno revuelve la leche para separar la mantequilla, el hombre debe agitar su mente con buenas acciones y nobles compañías. La mente del hombre oscila entre el espíritu eterno y el mundo fugaz. Por lo tanto, es deber de las sociedades, como la Sociedad de la Vida Divina de llenar las mentes de sus miembros con la santidad, y ayudar a eliminar la escoria de la pasión y la lujuria. Para esta transformación, todo el mundo es un candidato digno, y el sabor de la felicidad es el mismo para todos.

En el tercer día, después de que la reunión fue abierta al público, Baba habló durante más de una hora, alentando a todos a llevar una vida de devoción y entrega. " ¿Qué le gusta tener en las manos, el Señor ?" Preguntó. Él mismo sugirió la respuesta, " La flauta ". Él quiere que todos avancen sin demoras, despojados de orgullo, de ego, con voluntad; digno de Dios invitando a recogerlo y hacer sonar su dulce aliento a través de él, creando una melodía divina. Baba se movía libremente entre los hombres y los estudiosos sagrados y dio a cada uno una larga entrevista antes de salir de Venkatagiri.
Un rosario milagroso para Swami Sadananda.
Cuando Baba volvió a Puttaparthi, él se reunio por Swami Sadananda y Swami Satchidananda. Los dos estaban deseosos de pasar más tiempo en la Presencia Divina.
Swami Satchidananda habló en una reunión en Puttaparthi en la inauguración de la meditación Grove el 29 de junio de 1957. Dijo que todo lo que otros pueden tomar de Baba es ser, estaba convencido por personal experiencia, que Él era la Súper Consciencia misma, Omnisciente, la motivación de los seres, el Residente interno de todos los seres. Él y Swami Sadananda escribió a su Guru, Swami Sivananda Saraswati de Rishikesh, sobre Baba y sus atributos divinos. Los dos Swamis viajaron con Baba a cabo Comorín. Cuando Sai Baba caminaba por la arena a orillas del mar en Kanyakumari, cuentas de cristal se formaron en cada paso; éstas fueron recogidas por los devotos. Había 84 de ellas. Baba dijo que debía haber 108 en total. Al contar de nuevo, su número fue 108. Un japamala rosario hizo con las cuentas. Baba dio el collar milagroso a Swami Sadananda.
Después de visitar la presa de Periyar y el Santuario de Vida Salvaje allí, Baba se dirigio a Madurai y Mayuram, y volvió a Puttaparthi pasando por Salem, donde Swami Satchidananda había permanecido durante algunos años.
Baba Viaja a Norte India.
Y sucedió que Baba había recibido una carta de invitación de Swami Sivananda Saraswati, Presidente de la Sociedad para la vida Divina, en Rishikesh. Esto fue seguido vigorosamente por muchos recordatorios y telegramas en rápida sucesión. Baba finalmente accedió a ir al norte de la India, a pesar de que él no tiene ninguna necesidad de ir en excursiones, ya que él está más allá del espacio y el tiempo.
Después de llegar a Madras, ahora conocida como Madrás, a mediados de julio de 1957, Baba y Sus devotos abordaron una avión que aterrizó en el aeropuerto de Palam, en Nueva Delhi (ahora aeropuerto internacional Indira Gandhi) a las 4:30 pm; una hora después de su llegada, Baba entró en trance para responder a una llamada de auxilio de un devoto en medio de un ataque de parálisis peligroso. Durante una semana se quedó en Delhi, Baba llenó los corazones de los devotos con alegría; personas llegaron en cientos y estaban más que contentos de asistir a las sesiones de bhajans dos veces al día.

El 22 de julio de 1957, Baba salió de Nueva Delhi en coche a Rishikesh. Cuando llegó a Sivanandanagar a las 6:30 pm de la noche, Swami Sivananda llama para una reunión especial de los discípulos en el ashram y ofreció una calurosa bienvenida a Baba. Mientras Swami Sivananda saludó a Baba con las manos juntas, como era su costumbre, Baba reconoció el saludo con su postura de la mano lo que significa, "No temas," una señal de que ha dado paz a innumerables almas en problemas.
Al día siguiente, los estudiantes solicitaron a Baba para que les diera un mensaje. Dijo que el Ganges en su viaje al mar, era como un buscador sincero de Dios. El 26 de julio de 1957, Baba tomó un autobús y procedió viajar a lo largo del Ganges hasta el palacio de la Rani de Garhwal.
Después de pasar a través de un paisaje con elevaciónes, el autobús se detuvo en frente de un pequeño bungalow artístico - centrado como una joya -. en un jardín bien cuidado, junto al Ganges.
Algunas preguntas fueron hechas a Baba, que les preocupaban. En respuesta a una pregunta sobre cuál es la naturaleza de los escritos bíblicos y su valor para los tiempos modernos, Bhagavan dijo que eran como postes de señales que indican el camino; el camino tiene que ser atravesado con el fin de experimentar la alegría de llegar a la meta. Alguien más en la multitud hizo una pregunta sobre la existencia del cielo y el infierno. Baba dijo que ambos existen en este mundo.
Baba salva a un Yogui en un cueva húmeda.
Una tarde, Baba "dejó" Su Cuerpo, por así decirlo, por un corto tiempo. Cuando más tarde se le preguntó dónde había estado, Baba explicó que había ido a salvar a un gran yogui de una cueva húmeda. Esto despertó la curiosidad de todos a su alrededor y se reunieron para escuchar más detalles. Dejó de lado sus preguntas y dijo que Subramanyam podría decir quién era! Más tarde Subramanyam, un miembro del grupo, fue preguntado por Baba sobre lo que había visto esa noche mientras en la cueva,

Subramanyam pidió perdón por no informar a Baba inmediatamente sobre él, porque había visto un cadáver flotando en el Ganges pero al ser un signo de mal augurio, se había abstenido de mencionarlo que en la atmósfera santa de la cueva.
Baba se rió y dijo que no era un cadáver en absoluto, aunque el Yogui estaba flotando por la inundación estaba meditando, que ni siquiera se dio cuenta de su situación. Que estaba siendo arrastrado por el torrente. Se decía que estaba sentado en una roca al lado del río, perdido en la meditación.
La corriente, por su parte, estaba comiendo rápido en el barro debajo de la roca que se inclina hacia él, lo que lo arrastro. " Fue como un sueño para él en un primer momento ", dijo Baba. Más tarde, cuando se encontró con que estaba siendo arrastrado por el Ganges, comenzó a orar al Señor. Sai Krishna de vuelta en Brindavan.

El 30 de julio, procedió en coche a Mathura-Brindavan, la escena de su pasado encarnación Divina como Señor Krishna. Baba los condujo a la orilla del Yamuna, como si conociera cada pulgada del lugar, y señaló las localidades consagradas. ¿Quién puede decir lo reminiscencias actuaban de la Conciencia de Baba como mostró los lugares en los que se humillase, la serpiente, las Gopis se reprendió, el carro se volcó, fueron arrancadas de los árboles individuales. Cada pequeña ola del Yamuna parecía bailar con la música de su voz; cada vaca que fue vista parecía estar buscando el toque cálido de su mano divina!
Al regresar a Mathura, Baba caminaba casualmente en un templo de Radha-Shyam donde se adoraba a Krishna y las gopis.Arreglos se están realizando en frente del templo por un Rasaleela Show, un juego de la "Danza de Krishna entre las Gopis" en la que apareció como muchos Krishna. Cuando Baba fue y se puso delante del santuario, de repente las luces se apagaron; todo el mundo se pregunta por qué! Baba dijo, " No se preocupe, vamos a aprovechar esta estatua de Krishna a Delhi y que se pueden realizar su adoración al que hay !" Se agitó la mano a través de la puerta de la capilla donde se podía ver la imagen de mármol precioso de Krishna en la tenue luz - en su palma no se materializó en un ídolo, la réplica exacta de la instalada en el interior
Baba Graces Cachemira

El 2 de agosto de 1957, Baba fue a Srinagar en avión y llegó al valle de Cachemira al mediodía.Desde el aire, se podía ver la complicada red de canales que alimentan las llanuras del Punjab, el Templo Dorado de Amritsar, y los enfoques robustos para el paso de Banihal y el valle de Cachemira.
Baba se quedó en una casa flotante llamada Alexandra Palace. Su partido ocupaba dos barcos vecinos conocidos como el Príncipe de Cachemira y del Rey de las rosas.
Baba anima a todos a apreciar las bellezas de la naturaleza. Él dirigió su atención hacia el encanto de las flores, los colores de la puesta del sol, la grandeza de gris de un cielo nublado, las centelleantes estrellas en el cielo de medianoche o el jazmín guirnalda de grúas en vuelo. Tomó el partido de los famosos jardines de Mughal - Shalimar y Nishat Bagh en la noche, pero al tiempo que observaba al regresar a la casa flotante, el Himalaya cubiertas de nieve en la distancia eran un jardín mucho más hermosa diseñada por el Señor para dibujar los ojos de los hombres lejos de los valles en la que se revolcaban.

El 3 de agosto, Baba partió hacia Gulmarg y Khilanmarg para mostrar su partido las nieves de las montañas del Himalaya. Se montan caballos en Tangmarg.
Durante el ascenso de 12 millas a 14.000 pies. Sobre el nivel del mar, Baba mantuvo el partido entretenido con sus ocurrencias, chistes, regalos ocasionales, o cenizas. Él montó su caballo, Raja, el más alto y más impresionante de todos, con facilidad y destreza.Ni una sola vez llegar a descansar.
El camino de la herida sobre las colinas. Estaba lleno de piedras, adoquines rotos y la maraña de raíces de los árboles de pino, pero los caballos inteligentemente recogió su camino a lo largo hasta que se alcanzó la línea de nieve.
Baba, descalzo, jugó en la nieve, rodando bolas de hielo y tirarlos en la fiesta , riéndose de las caras asustadas de los que se deslizaron por los bancos de nieve en trineos improvisados y reprendiendo a aquellos que se quejaban del viento helado.
Todo el mundo estaba cansado y se quejó de dolores y las ampollas, pero Baba era fresco como una rosa cuando regresaron a las casas flotantes a las 10.30 horas de ese noche.

Muchos de Srinagar llegó al palacio Alexandra para recibir las bendiciones de Baba. Una anciana dijo que había sido dirigida a ir a ese mismo barco por algún mensajero en un sueño que tuvo la noche anterior. Baba aceptó la invitación de unas pocas familias en Srinagar para visitarlos en sus hogares.
En una de esas casa, se colocó una guirnalda alrededor del cuello de un bebé, diciendo: " Él se convertirá en un gran yogui !" Esa fue la casa del secretario de la agencia de viajes que había hecho arreglos para la gira de Cachemira de Baba. Baba le dio un anillo, engastado con piedras preciosas, que materializó en el acto.Durante la conversación, cuando alguien le preguntó a qué edad había "renunciado a casa y hogar," Sai Baba dijo en broma: "¿Cómo puedo, cuya casa es el mundo, renunciar a casa y hogar ?"

October 20, 1940. It was on this day, seventy years ago, that Bhagavan Baba unveiled the mystery surrounding His birth, life and mission. He declared to the people around, and through them to the entire mankind, that He indeed is the Supreme Consciousness embodied in a diminutive and delightful form. “I am no longer your Sathya, I am Sai…I have My work; My devotees are calling Me…” He announced candidly on that day.
Ever since, this eternal reservoir of energy and empathy, hope and happiness, solace and succor, light and love, has nursed and nurtured, and ensured that the tiny seed of goodness latent within every individual grows into a gigantic tree of love and serenity. And like a perfect teacher, He has demonstrated this more by living that principle in every moment of His own life. The result is a luminescent legacy that will continue to illumine the dark alleys of humanity’s collective consciousness, elevating it to a state of absolute sublimity for generations to come.
“Loving Legend – Living Legacies” seeks to capture a few salient highlights of this glorious saga of Pure Love. This 30-episode radio documentary starts on October 20, 2010 on Radio Sai to continue daily till November 19, 2010.

Episode 9: Sai Baba and the Revival of Eternal Values
In 1957, Sathya Sai Baba presided at the 9th All-India Divine Life Convention held at Venkatagiri. It was a landmark event aimed at reviving the glory of Indian culture and spirituality within a decade of the end of British colonialism.

The town of Venkatagiri was filled with delegates, visitors, and devotees. There were a large number of renunciates from far and wide. A gorgeous flower-bedecked palanquin was placed at the main gate of the Venkatagiri Palace for Sai Baba to proceed into the theatre for the first session. When Baba came out and saw this symbol of pomp, He politely refused the honour. The Raja of Venkatagiri tried to get Baba to reconsider, but He said: "There are so many monks here; I would like to walk with them." It was indeed a distinguished galaxy of holy men, including Swami Sadananda, Swami Satchidananda, Swami Atmaswarupananda, and Swami Srinivasananda.
Be a Flute in the Lord’s Hands
In His keynote address, Baba said that divine life was the inspiration, the birthright, the motive force, the be-all and end-all of everything in creation; from microcosm to the macrocosm. Divine life is the rain that falls from the clouds of truth, love, and non-injury. It comprises all acts done in the pursuit of reality. Just as butter is within milk, inside every individual is the desire to attain divinity behind the illusion of material things. As one churns milk to separate the butter, man must stir his mind with good deeds and noble company. The mind of man oscillates between the eternal spirit and the fleeting world. Therefore, it is the duty of societies such as the Divine Life Society to fill the minds of its members with holiness, and help remove the dross of passion and lust. For this transformation, everyone is a worthy candidate, and the taste of that bliss is the same for all.

On the third day, after the meeting was opened to the public, Baba spoke for over an hour, encouraging all to lead lives of devotion and surrender. "What would you like to be in the hands of the Lord?" He asked. He Himself suggested the answer, "The flute." He wanted everyone to move forward without any crookedness, shorn of any pride, ego, will, or idea of self; worthy of inviting God to pick it and blow His sweet breath through it, creating a divine melody. Baba moved freely among the holy men and scholars and gave each a long interview before departing from Venkatagiri.
A Miracle Necklace for Swami Sadananda
When Baba returned to Puttaparthi, He was joined by Swami Sadananda and Swami Satchidananda. They were both eager to spend more time in the Divine Presence.
Swami Satchidananda spoke at a meeting in Puttaparthi at the inauguration of the Meditation Grove on June 29, 1957. He said that whatever others may take Baba to be, he was convinced from personal experience that He was Super Consciousness itself, Omniscient, the motivation of beings, the Inner-Resident of all beings. He and Swami Sadananda wrote to their Guru, Swami Sivananda Saraswati of Rishikesh, about Baba and His divine attributes. The two Swamis travelled with Baba to Cape Comorin. There they had a glimpse of Baba's universal message when they saw Him creating a rosary with the Holy Cross and the figure of Jesus Christ in order to bless a Christian.

When Sai Baba walked along the sands of the seashore at Kanyakumari, crystal beads formed themselves at each step; these were collected by the devotees. There were 84 of them. Baba said that there must be 108 in all. On counting again, their number tallied with 108. A japamalaor rosary was made from the beads. Baba gave the miracle necklace to Swami Sadananda.
After visiting the Periyar Dam and the Wild Life Sanctuary there, Baba proceeded to Madurai and Mayuram, and returned to Puttaparthi by way of Salem, where Swami Satchidananda had stayed for some years.
Baba Travels to North India
It came about that Baba had received a letter of invitation from Swami Sivananda Saraswati, President of the Divine Life Society, in Rishikesh. This was vigorously followed up by many reminders and telegrams in quick succession. Baba finally agreed to go to North India, despite the fact that He has no need to go on tours as He is beyond space and time.
After reaching Madras, now known as Chennai, mid-July of 1957, Baba and His devotees boarded an airplane that landed at New Delhi’s Palam airport (now Indira Gandhi International Airport) at 4:30 p.m. Within an hour of His arrival, Baba went into trance to answer a distress call from a devotee in the throes of a dangerous paralytic stroke. During the week or so that He stayed in Delhi, Baba filled the hearts of devotees with joy; people came in hundreds and they were only too glad to attend the bhajan sessions twice a day.

On July 22, 1957, Baba left New Delhi by car for Rishikesh. When He reached Sivanandanagar at 6:30 p.m. that evening, Swami Sivananda called for a special gathering of the disciples at the ashram and offered Baba a hearty welcome. While Swami Sivananda greeted Baba with folded hands, as was his custom, Baba acknowledged the greeting with His posture of the Hand which means, "Do not fear," a sign that has given peace to countless troubled souls.
The next day, the students requested Baba to give them a message. He said that the Ganges, speeding to the sea, was like a sincere seeker of God. “Every river knows it has come from the sea, and is prompted by that knowledge to hurry back towards the sea, no matter what obstacles the earthy terrain throws in its way.”
Baba also spoke on the word "Bhagavan"—an appellation by which He was introduced to the gathering. He said that Bha meant "creation," Gameant "protection" and Va meant "change" or "transformation." "Bhagavan is capable of all three. That is My secret," He announced.
On July 26, 1957, Baba boarded a bus and proceeded along the bank of the Ganges to the palace of the Rani of Garhwal for a quiet morning.
After passing through some elevating scenery, the bus halted in front of an artistic little bungalow--centered like a gem--in a well-kept garden beside the Ganges.
Some asked Baba questions that were troubling them. In response to a query on what is the nature of scriptural writings and their value to modern times, Bhagavan said they were like sign posts indicating the road; the path has to be traversed in order to experience the joy of reaching the goal. Someone else in the crowd asked a question on the existence of heaven and hell. Baba said both exist here in this world.
Baba Saves a Yogi from a Watery Hole
Later, Baba "left" His Body, as it were, for a short while. When subsequently asked where He had been, Baba explained He had gone to save a great Yogi from a watery grave. This aroused the curiosity of everyone around Him and they gathered closer to hear further details. He brushed their questions aside and said that Subramanyam would be able to say who it was! Later Subramanyam, a member of the party, was asked by Baba what he had seen that evening while at the cave.

Subramanyam begged pardon for not informing Baba immediately about it, for he had seen a corpse floating down the Ganges but being a sign of evil omen, he had refrained from mentioning it in the holy atmosphere of the cave.
Baba laughed and said it was not a corpse at all, though the Yogi who was floating down the flood was so dead to all external appearances that he did not even realise his plight. He was being swept down by the torrent. It was said he was seated on a rock by the side of the river, lost in meditation.
The current, meanwhile, was fast eating into the mud underneath the rock that tilted over, throwing him into the flood. "It was all like a dream for him at first," said Baba. Later, when he found he was being carried away by the Ganges, he began to pray to the Lord. Baba heard his call; He slowly led the floating Yogi to the bank, a few miles above Sivanandanagar where there was a homestead available to give him warmth and comfort.
Raja Reddy, who was at Rishikesh, shares: "We heard Him narrating the incident. During the 'trance', He had His palms one over the other as if enclosing something. It was to protect the Sanyasi's heart that Baba had kept His fist closed. The yogi was saved after a 30-mile float!"
Sai Krishna Back in Brindavan
This incident of the unknown Yogi demonstrated Baba's Universal Love and Presence. Baba left Swami Sivananda on July 28 and went to New Delhi. On 30 July, He proceeded by car to Mathura-Brindavan, the scene of His past Divine Career as Lord Krishna. Baba led them all to the bank of the Yamuna, as if He knew every inch of the place, and pointed out to the hallowed localities. Who can say what reminiscences were activating the Consciousness of Baba as He showed the places where the serpent was humbled, the Gopis were chided, the cart was overturned, the twin trees were plucked. Every little wave of the Yamuna seemed to dance to the music of His Voice; every cow that was seen seemed to be seeking the warm touch of His Divine Hand!
While returning to Mathura, Baba casually walked into a Radha-Shyam Temple where Krishna and the Gopis were worshiped. Arrangements were being made in front of the temple for a Rasaleela Show, a play on the "Dance of Krishna among the Gopis" in which He appeared as many Krishnas. When Baba went and stood in front of the shrine, suddenly the lights went off; everyone wondered why! Baba said, "Don't worry; we shall take this idol of Krishna to Delhi and you can perform your adoration to it there!" He waved His Hand across the door of the shrine where one could see the lovely marble image of Krishna in the dim light - in His Palm there materialized an idol, the exact replica of the one installed inside!
Baba Graces Kashmir

On 2 August 1957, Baba left for Srinagar by plane and reached the Kashmir Valley at noon. From the air, one could see the complicated network of canals that feed the Punjab plains, the Golden Temple of Amritsar, and the rugged approaches to the Banihal Pass and the Kashmir Valley.
Baba stayed in a houseboat named Alexandra Palace. His party occupied two neighbouring boats known as the Prince of Kashmir and the King's Roses.
Baba encouraged everyone to appreciate the beauties of nature. He directed their attention to the charm of flowers, the colours of sunset, the gray grandeur of an overcast sky, the twinkling stars in the midnight sky or the jasmine-garland of cranes in flight. He took the party to the famous Mughal gardens - Shalimar and Nishat Bagh in the evening, but as He remarked while returning to the houseboat, the snow-covered Himalayas in the far distance were a far lovelier garden designed by the Lord to draw men's eyes away from the valleys in which they wallowed.

On 3 August, Baba departed for Gulmarg and Khilanmarg to show His party the snows of the Himalayan Ranges. They mounted horses at Tangmarg.
During the 12-mile climb to 14,000 ft. above sea level, Baba kept the party entertained with His quips, jokes, occasional gifts, or ash. He rode His horse, Raja, the tallest and most impressive of all, with ease and dexterity. Never once did He get down to rest.
The road wound over the hills. It was full of pebbles, broken cobblestones and the tangle of pine tree roots, but the horses cleverly picked their way along until the snow line was reached.
Baba, barefoot, played in the snow, rolling balls of ice and throwing them at the party, laughing at the frightened faces of those who slid down the snow banks in makeshift toboggans and chiding those who complained of the chilling wind.
Everyone was tired and complained of aches and blisters, but Baba was fresh as a rose when they returned to the houseboats at about 10.30 p.m. that night.

Many from Srinagar came to the Alexandra Palace to receive Baba’s blessings. An old lady said she had been directed to go to that very boat by some messenger in a dream she had the previous night. Baba accepted the invitation of a few families in Srinagar to visit them in their homes.
At one such home, He placed a garland around the neck of a baby, saying, "He will become a great Yogi!" That was the house of the secretary of the travel agency that had made arrangements for Baba's tour of Kashmir. Baba gave him a ring, set with gemstones, which He materialised on the spot. During the conversation, when someone asked Him at what age He had "given up hearth and home," Sai Baba quipped, "How can I, whose home is the world, give up hearth and home?"
The stream of questioning pilgrims to Alexandra Palace continued unabated for two full days. Baba's answers illumined the Divinity of His Being. His leave-taking was painful for the large throng of devotees who had come to the airport on 6 August. The plane finally departed for Delhi. Next Baba flew to Madras for a short stay and reached Puttaparthi on 14 August.
Today in hindsight, it appears that His very first trip to North India not only brought throngs of seekers to Sai’s hallowed presence, but through His holy tread on the soil there, Baba energised the sacred centres in those regions. This was the practical extension of the Conference He had presided over at Venkatagiri earlier on to revive India’s timeless heritage and values. Barely a decade old independent country, Bharat was being awakened to a new dawn by the young Sathya Sai.
