El Día de la Independencia "drama" en presencia de Swami - 15 de agosto de 2004 - Parte 1, por Aravindb.
Una sorprendente "instrucción" ...
Revisando las páginas de mi diario, me encuentre con un episodio en que el Maestro eligió enseñar muchas lecciones para la vida. El momento y la aparición de este episodio que se extendió casi una semana, se centró en el 57· Día de Independencia de la India, el 15 de agosto de 2004.
Algunas de las lecciones que he aprendido a través de este episodio (que espero recordar cada vez que necesito) son las de resolver los conflictos, ampliando el corazón de uno.
La secuencia de eventos son tan emocionante, que el escritor se siente tentado a correr a ellos lo antes posible. Pero uno no puede esperar disfrutar de un banquete gourmet de 3 platos, como si fuera una comida rápida! . Y siguiendo el patrón de un menú de 3 platos, vamos a empezar con los titulares. Lo que nos prepara para lo que sigue .
Comenzó con uno de mis compañeros de clase, Ranganatha Raju (RR) caminando a mi lado mientras nos dirigíamos a las filas en el Instituto. Él dijo:"Aravind, tuve un sueño con Swami anoche. " "Oh, wow! . Eso está muy bien y agradable de escuchar. Pero ¿por qué me estás contando eso? " "... porque hay un mensaje en el para ti ..." Mis oídos se aguzaron. Yo estaba muy ansioso por escuchar lo que Swami me quería decir a través de su sueño.
"Se trata de un drama que se disputará el 15 de agosto"..."¿Quieres decir en el drama del Día de la Independencia?". Es la tradición de la mayoría de los estudiantes del albergue, realizar un drama en el albergue, con motivo del Día de la Independencia de la India.
Ese drama significa mucho para los alumnos mas avanzados, que quieren mostrar sus mejores habilidades de actuación, habilidades de construcción, habilidades musicales, habilidades de baile, y todo lo realcionado a una puesta en escena"...¡Sí!...El drama del Día de la Independencia. Creo que Swami quiere ponerlo en escena en el Sai Kulwant Hall! " "Esto es una locura! Nunca se ha hecho antes ", le contesté.
En unos pocos segundos, antes de que hablara su siguiente frase, un centenar de pensamientos me llenaron la cabeza. El drama de el día, tendría muchas escenas del movimiento por la libertad de la India. Los que invariablemente muestran la brutalidad de los invasores británicos y la vida de muchos sacrificios heroicos patrioticos de la India. Esto no sería apropiado presentar en el Sai Kulwant Hall, en presencia de Swami! .
Una vez más, ¿qué pasaria con algunas de las danzas y canciones que tenía un ambiente de jazz o rápidas. ¿Cómo podemos presentarlos en el Kulwant Hall?. Los efectos de luz, efectos de sonido y un centenar de otros efectos que fueran necesarios, mientras se hace un drama en el albergue (en el que se ha hecho año tras año por mucho tiempo) no eran posibles en el salón del darshan. El flujo rápido de mis pensamientos se vio interrumpido por el próximo comentario de RR : "dijo Swami que Él te ha dado el tema para el drama".
Así que pensé que sería mejor si hablábamos y pensamos en la mejor forma de ejecutar ese tema. "Yo estaba en un sueño ahora. Yo estaba confundido ". ¿Seguro que has visto a Swami en su sueño y él te dijo todo esto?". "¿Crees que tendría el coraje de venir a hablar contigo de esta manera, si yo no estoy convencido?"."Escucha Raju . Te prometo que Swami no me ha dado ningún tema para ese drama, que vayan a presentar, en su presencia, para el Día de la Independencia. No sé cómo se titularía"."Cuando Swami dice que Él lo ha dado, lo ha dado. Tu no lo has reconocido todavía. Piensa profundamente acerca de ello y por favor dime lo más pronto el titulo del tema. "
Resolución del "misterio", el tema.
Con esto, entramos en el salón de actos del colegio donde el silencio era algo obligatorio. Yo estuve haciendo un serio examen de conciencia durante toda la sesión de oración. Faltaban apenas 9 días para el Día de la Independencia y Swami esperando que realicemos un programa de una calidad que se pueda realizar en su presencia en el mandir? , yo tomo los sueños de Swami en serio, siempre.
Hoy, también veo una especie de conexión entre RR y yo, cuando se trata de sueños de Swami. De hecho, fue en su sueño que Swami me respondió tan fantásticamente durante mi profunda experiencia de Suka Nadi .
Un día entero pasó, sin novedades. Al día siguiente, mientras tomaba una ducha, un solo pensamiento golpeaba contra mi corazón. "Me estaba diciendo, en sánscrito "Swarajya", (independencia) . Busca el significado de esta palabra. "
Este siguió su camino dentro de mí y parecía como si yo no podría hacer nada, a menos que respondiera a esta voz. Cuando descubrí el significado, me emocione!. Swarajya está constituido por "Swa" y "Rajya". Mientras que el primero significa "Yo", el segundo significa "regla". Y aquí, 'Self' significa el ser interior, el Alma o Dios en su interior. Por lo tanto, la verdadera "independencia" es cuando seguimos las reglas del Atma o Yo. Independencia por lo tanto, es in-dependencia! . La forma en que la inspiración se había manifestado, yo estaba convencido de que se trataba de Swami que me había proporcionado el "tema" para el drama.
Corrí a RR y le dije la secuencia de los acontecimientos. Él estaba demasiado excitado. También estaba firmemente convencido de que se trataba de Swami que había proporcionado el tema. En el flujo de la historia, llegamos a nuestra era de esta manera:
1. 15 de agosto 1947, fue el día en la India que obtuvo la independencia - la libertad del dominio británico -. Que era puramente en sentido físico.
2. Tenemos que alcanzar el siguiente nivel de independencia, que es la libertad de las cadenas de la pobreza, la corrupción, la inmoralidad, etc..
3. Podemos ser verdaderamente libre, sólo cuando logremos el nivel final, que es Swarajya o reglas de el Yo (los valores humanos).
Un verdadero Bharatiya (traducido libremente) no está definido geográficamente, sino espiritualmente! .

En el curso de nuestra investigación, sobre el drama y la presentación, nos encontramos con otro punto increíble. Swami se refiere a la India como Bharat, y s un indio como Bharatiya. La definición de Swami, sin embargo, es tan diferente de la nuestra.
Él dice:
"La tierra donde los 5 valores humanos (Verdad, Rectitud, Paz, Amor y la No Violencia) se practican es Bharat. Y la persona que practica estos 5 valores, es un Bharatiya. Así, que ser un Bharatiya no depende de una localización geográfica. Depende de los propios valores. "
Sentimos que debemos mencionar esto también. Haría que las celebraciones del Día de la Independencia fueran globales y universales, y no se limitarian únicamente a los "indios"!
El mar puede ser peligroso, pero un barco no es para anclarse en un puerto !
Aguas bravas ...
En este punto, llamamos a algunos compañeros más afines y discutimos el programa. Todos estaban muy emocionados, y muy pronto, un drama hermoso había tomado forma. Pensamos que ya era hora de compartir el mismo con toda la clase, y conseguir su apoyo, y comenzar a preparar este programa. No teníamos la menor idea con la oposición que nos encontraríamos! . A pesar de que explicamos el concepto a la clase, hubo protestas.
"Por favor, no trate aplicar la" espiritualidad "por la fuerza a la gente! . Se vuelve nauseabundo. No sirve de nada predicar la espiritualidad y usarla así en todas partes ".
"El Día de la Independencia ha sido un programa de albergue, y una manera para que todos los estudiantes del último año demuestren su talento. Que sea de esa manera, porque no hay manera de que podamos hacer dos programas en el mismo día, entonces no le haríamos justicia a ninguno de ellos! . Podemos hacer un programa para el mandir otro día ! ".
"Este programa nunca se ha hecho en presencia de Swami. ¿Cómo crees que vamos a obtener el permiso para hacerlo? " .
De tal manera que ahora teniamos que elegir, entre la preparación de el programa "tradicional" de albergue (con su 100% de probabilidad de que ocurra), o la preparación del "radical" programa en el Mandir (con su 50% de probabilidad de que ocurra).
Un voto fue emitido por los 120 estudiantes de la clase y el resultado fue 60-40 a favor del programa en el Mandir. El problema con la democracia, es que la mayoría lo decide todo! .
A pesar de la votación, dijeron que el programa para el mandir debía ser planeado, y tuvimos un gran 40% de la clase insatisfecho con la decisión.
En lugar de estar de acuerdo con la mayoría ganadora, fueron a tratar de convencer a la "oposición", sobre el programando de albergue y aumentar así su apoyo y porcentaje! .
Así fue que dos programas se estaban preparando al mismo tiempo, una para el mandir con un 60% de la clase, y uno para el albergue con un 40% de la clase. (¿No son exactamente los problemas de una democracia ? )
Las partes estaban corriendo contra el tiempo para tener los programas listos. Los preparativos fueron perjudicados por el hecho de que éramos una clase desunida tratando de lograr algo que nunca se había hecho antes. Dos programas en el mismo día! .
El 'equipo del albergue sufrió una desventaja - la mayor parte de los mejores actores y oradores eran parte del "equipo del Mandir'. El "equipo del mandir" no estuvo libre de problemas, la mayoría de los artistas calificados que hacen utileria para las puestas en escena y ayudan con los trajes, eran parte del "equipo del albergue.
A menudo teníamos discusiones, debates, discusiones y conflictos entre el dos equipos. Pero como esto ocurría, ni una palabra de ello se nos permitió comentar fuera de la clase.
Los profesores no eran conscientes de que ocurría esto. Los equipos habían expuesto sus propuestas a la guardia, que a su ves lo llevo hasta el vice-canciller. Ellos se sorprendieron de la confianza y constancia de nuestra clase, y las "pista de los programas, los convencieron de que también íbamos a tener éxito esta vez .
El rector pidió permiso a Swami para el programa del Mandir. Se le concedió, y todos estábamos tensos. Aunque el rector y los ancianos estaban alabando a nuestra clase, no eran conscientes de los problemas de desunión severos entre nosotros.
Este fue el escenario cuando comenzamos nuestra práctica, el 10 de agosto, para los programas del 15 de agosto, uno en el mandir y otros en el albergue.
Y con eso, los aperitivos de la cena de 3 platos han sido servidos. El plato principal iba a ser una fiesta inolvidable con todos los gustos: dulce, agrio, salado, amargo y picante! .
Pero el postre fue complicado. Y eso fue porque Swami físicamente se involucró en ambos.

The Independence Day 'drama' in Swami's presence - 15th August 2004 - Part 1, by Aravindb.
The surprising 'instruction'...
Turning through the pages of my diary, I come to an episode which the Master chose to teach many lessons for life. The timing and occurrence of this episode which spanned almost a week was centered around the 57th Indian Independence Day on the 15th of August, 2004. Some of the lessons that I learnt through this episode (which I hope to remember whenever I need) are those of conflict resolution, expanding one’s heart and following one’s heart or inspiration.
The sequence of events are so thrilling that the writer is tempted to rush to them at the earliest. But one cannot hope to enjoy a 3 course gourmet feast as fast food! And following the pattern of a 3-course meal, let’s start with the sizzling starters - that which sets us up for what is to follow.
It started with one of my classmates, Ranganatha Raju (RR) walking beside me as we made our way to the Institute in lines. He said,
“Aravind, I had Swami’s dream last night.”
“Oh wow! That’s great and nice to hear. But why are you telling me about it?”
“...because there is a message in it for you...”
My ears perked up. I was very eager to listen to what Swami wanted to tell me through his dream.
“It is about a drama to be staged on 15th of August...”
“You mean the Independence Day drama?”
It was tradition for the senior-most students of the hostel to put up a drama in the hostel on the occasion of the Indian Independence Day. That drama meant a lot for the seniors as they would showcase their best acting skills, construction skills, music skills, dancing skills - you name it.
“Yes! The Independence Day drama. I think Swami wants us to stage it in Sai Kulwant hall!”
“This is crazy! It has never been done before”, I replied. In a few seconds before he spoke his next line, a hundred thoughts filled my head -
The I-Day drama would have many scenes from the Indian freedom movement. Those would invariably show the brutality of the British invaders and the heroic life-sacrifices of many Indian patriots. These would not be appropriate for putting up in Sai Kulwant hall, in Swami’s presence! Again, what about some of the dances and songs which had a jazzy or fast feel to them. How could we put those up in Sai Kulwant hall? The light-effects, sound effects and a hundred other effects that were possible while doing a drama in the hostel (where they had been done year after year for more than a dozen times) were not possible in Swami’s darshan hall.
The rapid flow of my thoughts was interrupted by RR’s next statement,
“Swami said that He has given you the theme for the drama. So, I thought it would be best if we discuss and think of how best to execute that theme.”
I was in a daze now. I was confused.
“Are you sure that you saw Swami in your dream and He told you all this?”
“Do you think I would have the courage to come and talk to you this way if I was not convinced?”
“Listen Raju. I promise that Swami has not given me any theme for a drama to be put up in His presence for Independence Day. I don’t know how you should proceed.”
“When Swami says that He has given, He has given. You have not recognised it yet. Think deeply about it and please tell me as soon as the theme gets concretised.”

With that, we entered the assembly hall of the college where silence was a compulsory thing. I was doing some serious soul-searching throughout the prayer session. There were hardly 9 days left for the Independence Day and was Swami expecting us to conjure a programme of a quality which could be put up in His presence in the mandir?
I take Swami’s dreams seriously always. And today, I also see a kind of connection between me and RR when it comes to Swami’s dreams. In fact, it was in his dream that Swami answered me so fantastically during my profound Suka Nadi experience.
A whole day passed without much luck. The next day, as I was taking a shower, a single thought kept pounding against my heart. It was saying,
“In Sanskrit, ‘independence’ is denoted by Swarajya. Find the meaning of this word.”
This kept going on within me and it seemed as if I would not be able to do anything else unless I answered this voice. When I discovered the meaning, was I excited!
Swarajya is constituted by “Swa” and “Rajya”. While the former means “Self”, the latter means “Rule”. And here, ‘Self’ stands for the inner self, the Atma or God within. So, true ‘independence’ is when the Atma or Self rules. Independence therefore is In-Dependence!
The way in which the inspiration had manifested, I was convinced that it was Swami who had provided the ‘theme’ for a drama. I rushed to RR and told him the sequence of events. He was excited too. He was also firmly convinced that it was Swami who had provided the theme. The story flow we arrived at, was like this:
1. August 15th 1947 was the day India attained independence - freedom from the British rule - which was purely in the physical sense.
2. We have to attain the next level of independence which is freedom from the chains of poverty, corruption, immorality etc. which bind us.
3. We can be truly free only when we achieve the final level which is Swarajya or rule by the Self.
A true Bharatiya (loosely translated as Indian) is not defined geographically but spiritually!

In the course of our research while making the drama and presentation we came across another amazing point. Swami refers to India as Bharat and an Indian as Bharatiya. Swami’s definition, however, is so different from ours. He says,
“The land where the 5 human values (Truth, Righteousness, Peace, Love and Non-Violence) are practiced is Bharat. And the person who practices these 5 is a Bharatiya. So, being a Bharatiya does not depend on one’s geographical location. It depends on one’s values.”
We felt that we must mention this also. It would make the Independence Day celebrations global and universal and not restricted merely to ‘Indians’!
The sea may be rough but a boat is not meant for anchor in a harbor all the while!
Rough waters...
At this point, we called a few more like-minded classmates and discussed the program. Everyone was excited and soon, a beautiful drama had taken shape. We thought that it was time to share the same with the whole class, enlist its support and start preparing for this added and new programme. We did not have the slightest idea of the opposition that we would meet!
Even as we explained the concept to the class, there were protests.
“Please do not try to force ‘spirituality’ down people’s throats! It gets nauseating. It is of no use preaching spirituality like this everywhere.”
“Independence Day has been a hostel programme and a way for all the senior students to showcase their talents. Let it be that way because there is no way we can do two programmes on the same day - then justice will not be done to either of them! We can make a programme for the mandir later!”
“Such a programme has never been done in Swami’s presence. How do you think we will get the permission to do so?”
The way things went, we now had to now choose between preparing for the ‘traditional’ hostel programme (with its 100% probability of happening) or preparing for the ‘radical’ mandir programme (with its 50% probability of happening). A vote was cast by the 120 students of the class and it was 60-40 in favor of the programme in the mandir.
The problem with democracy is that the majority decides everything! Though the vote said that the mandir programme should be planned, we had a huge 40% of the class unhappy with the decision. Instead of agreeing with the majority, they went about attempting to convince the ‘opposition’ about the hostel programme and increase their support-percentage! Thus it was that two programmes were being prepared simultaneously - one for the mandir by 60% of the class and one for the hostel by 40% of the class. (Aren’t these exactly the problems in a democracy!! :) )
Both ‘parties’ were racing against time to get the programmes ready. The preparations were impaired by the fact that we were a disunited class trying to achieve something that had never been done before - 2 programmes in the same day! The ‘hostel team’ suffered a handicap - most of the better actors and speakers were part of the ‘mandir team’. The ‘mandir team’ was not problem-free - most of the skilled artists who would make the sets for the drama and help in the costumes were part of the ‘hostel team’.
We often had discussions, debates, arguments and conflicts between the two teams. But as these happened, not a word of it was allowed to leak outside the class. The teachers were not aware of this happening. Both the teams had put up their proposals to the warden who had taken them up to the vice-chancellor. They were amazed at our confidence and our class’ track record at putting programmes convinced them that we would be successful this time also. The vice-chancellor sought permission from Swami for the mandir programme. It was granted and we were all tense. Though the vice-chancellor and the elders were praising our class, they were not aware of the severe disunity problems plaguing us.
This was the setting when we began our practice on the 10th of August for programmes on the 15th of August - one in mandir and one in the hostel.
And with that, the sizzlers and appetizers of the 3-course meal have been served. The main course was to be a memorable feast with all tastes - sweet, sour, salty, bitter and spicy! But the dessert was a lip-smacker and a real cooler. And that was because Swami physically got involved in both of them.
