A Tribute to the Legend of Pure Love - Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba :
A REPORT ON THE EVENT.
As the sun was setting into the Arabian sea, thousands of devotees were lining up and making a bee line to enter the Royal Turf Club, Mumbai, the venue of the Divine Event. I was stationed near the gate most of the time, and I could see the joy on their faces, holding out the Invitation cards, and the seva dals politely guiding them, into the Pavilion or the lawns, wherever, the seats are allocated. By 6.30 PM almost all seats had been taken up. The devotees of the great city of showed their Love and gratitude to their Loving God, by their mass attendance, which was unprecedented, except of those days when Bhagavan visited Mumbai. While Sri Sathya Sai Seva organizations had expected 15000 devotees to attend, the crowd was much more. Every inch of the vast lawns and the two upper balconies were fully occupied. Mahalakshmi Race course have a parking area to accommodate about 16000 cars. And yet this parking area was not sufficient, and the many car owners had to find places in the nearby lanes and by-lanes.
Yes, it was an overwhelming Love towards their Legend of Pure Love!!!
After lighting the lamp and other rituals that go with such Divine Programmes, it was time for the singers to pay their tributes by their rendering of Devotional songs. Believe me, the whole presentation of the day, was purely melodious rendering. Set to the background of the Arabian sea nearby, and matching up with the gentle breeze, the melodious music was flowing out not only into the vast Club area, but also across the world through the TV net works.
One by one the artists took the stage. Pundit Shivkumar Sharma set the trend with his masterly rendering. He was followed by Mrs. Devaki Pandit, Mr. Geet Sagar, Mr. Udit Narayan, and Smt. Anuradha Paduwal. Special mention should be made to the group of wonderful singers from Puttaparthi who had come all the way for participating in this great function, and they really enthralled the audience with some wonderful music presentation. The last singer Sri. Hariharan’s soul stirring performance was the climax of the great evening. The Arathi and singing of National Anthem marked the end. It was almost midnight when the curtain were drawn.
Sri. Chakravarthi, Sri. Sathyajit, and the Dr. J.Sashidhar Prasad, Vice chancellor of Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Learning and many other dignitaries from Puttaparthi had arrived as Special Guests. The Mayor of Mumbai, and also the C.E.Os of many corporate houses graced the occasion by their presence.
