Queridos Hermanos y Hermanas,
HISTORIA DE LAS ESTILOGRÁFICAS DE ORO
Esta historia sucedió poco después de haberme unido a la institución de Swami, en una temprana etapa de mi vida con Swami. Esa temprana etapa fue el 'período de luna de miel' – durante el que podemos gozar de cierta libertad. Después viene el pesado período de instrucción, el período desafiante. Esa es la vida espiritual que uno ha de aprobar mientras se está con Swami.
En esos días y hasta estos días, noté que Swami no se preocupaba por nada. No mencionaré el nombre de la persona involucrada en este historia. Como sea, ella trajo estilográficas de oro y quería que Swami las recibiera y aceptara.
El señor que las traía, me dijo, "Por favor, dígale a Swami que he traído estas estilográficas de oro."
En la época, yo no entendía su lógica. Inocentemente fui donde Swami y Le dije que fulano había traído estilográficas de oro.
Swami dijo, "Recíbelas tu. Recíbelas tú."
"Swami, no las ha traído para mí. No están destinadas para mí."
"No, no. Tu estás diciendo que las trajo, de modo que tu las recibes."
"No, no Swami, son para Tí. Han de ser distribuidas entre los estudiantes."
Y entonces Baba lo explicó así : "Trajo las estilográficas para que Yo le concediera una entrevista, y para que así él pueda conseguir un asiento en la primera fila cada día. Swami nunca va a hacer negocios como ese. Si insiste, le voy a pedir que salga del recinto. ¡No permitiré que entre nunca más al ashram!"
PRACTIQUEN EL DESAPEGO EN MEDIO DE LOS APEGOS
¡Él es Buda! Bhagavan es Buda, porque no está apegado a nadie ni a nada. Esta es la experiencia de la mayoría de la gente. Cuando camina entre los devotos, algunas personas consiguen entrevistas. Son bendecidas con entrevistas. Allí en la sala de entrevistas, habla de una manera tal, como si todo el Avatar estuviera allí sólo para uno. Él les crea esa impresión. Les alaba, alaba su sadhana, su familia, su vida, sus prospectos, su mujer o marido, y qué se yo. Entonces piensan que son tan importantes.
Tan pronto como salen de la entrevista, van a contarle a la gente, "¿Saben lo que dijo Swami?" Por qué habría de saber yo lo que Él le dijera a usted. . . ¡Mas así y todo, seguimos contando esto y lo otro!
Al día siguiente, o esa misma tarde, cuando Swami pasa por su lado, ¡ni siquiera les mira! "Allí en la sala de entrevistas me diste la impresión que Tu y yo éramos uno. Pero ahora, Tu estás ahí y yo,
acá, no soy nadie. (Risas) Swami, ¿no me conoces? ¿No me reconoces? ¿Qué pasó con el romance
allí en la sala de entrevistas? Desapego, eso es lo que Él quiere, ¡eso es todo! Depués de eso, ni
jugando. . . nada de apego.
Me siento muy sorprendido. Tuve una cantidad de dulces conversaciones con Él en diferentes lugares, como Kodaikanal, Ooty, Delhi, Bombay, Shimla, Pune y otros. Inmediatamente después de nuestro regreso acá, actúa de tal manera que pareciera como si jamás nos hubiéramos conocido (Risas) – como si nunca nos hubiésemos encontrado siquiera. ¡Pero si ayer viajamos juntos! ¿Qué significa ésto?
Hari Om, eso es todo. Eso es desapego. Eso es nirvana. Eso es como hemos de practicar el desapego en medio de todos los apegos. Esa es la práctica del desapego en medio de los apegos. Hasta en medio de la familia hay un modo de trascender e ir más allá.
TODOS HAN DE ALCANZAR ESA PERSONALIDAD 'BÚDICA'
Por ende, mis amigos, el nivana o liberación no es un logro. El nirvana no se consigue. No es algo para ser declarado, anunciado ni televisado. Nacen liberados; ¡han perdido la liberación en el camino! Consiguieron quedar cautivos; están atrapados en la jaula del cautiverio. El intento es de salir, el volver a disfrutar de la liberación en la que inicialmente nacieran. Por lo tanto, nací liberado, pero me quedé atrapado en el cautiverio.
Mediante el sadhana experimento nuevamente ese estado inicial de liberación o nirvana. De modo, amigos míos, que el nirvana es nuestro derecho de nacimiento. El nirvana es el estado natural, en tanto que el cautiverio es de nuestra propia hechura. ¡Bhagavan Buda! Qué clase de estado es. Hemos de entender que Buda es un estado. En realidad, Él es Siddhartha Gautama. Mas ésto es la personalidad 'Búdica', 'Crística' o 'Kríshnica' – este es el estado. Cada vez que sientan ese espíritu de sacrificio, eso será lo 'Crístico'. En dondequiera que encuentren compasión, eso será lo 'Búdico'.
De modo que todos deben alcanzar lo 'Búdico', el estado del nirvana o liberación, a través de la instrospección y del llegar a saber qué es real y qué no-real (nithya, anithya). Nithya significa 'lo eterno', en tanto que anithya significa 'lo efímero'. Hemos de distinguir entre estos dos con viveka, que es nuestro sentido de discernimiento. Entonces conseguiremos la experiencia del nirvana.
¡ SWAMI ESTÁ SIEMPRE CON NOSOTROS !
De modo, mis amigos, que luego de estas palabras, tengo algunos puntos que compartir con ustedes a estas alturas. Estoy sumamente consciente del hecho que le estoy hablando a devotos de Bhagavan Sri Sathya Sai Baba. En esta reunión también se encuentran presentes líderes de la organización, convocadores, presidentes, representantes de la rama femenina, gurus de Balvikas y trabajadores activos.
Esta asamblea es una congregación de trabajadores activos de la Organización Sri Sathya Sai venidos de diez países diferentes. En este contexto, apelo sinceramente a ustedes por lo siguiente : ¡díganle a todos que Swami está siempre con nosotros! ¡No se ha ido a ninguna parte! Está siempre con nosotros. Y continuará estando siempre con nosotros. Repítanle esto a todos.
En primer lugar, convénzanse de esto. Experiméntenlo y declárenlo abiertamente. Puede que pregunten, "¿Cómo declararlo? ¿Cómo decirlo abiertamente? ¿Cómo me convenzo a mí mismo?" La respuesta es simple. ¿No apareció Swami en Indonesia? ¿No apareció Swami en Malasia? ¿No apareció en Argentina? Muchas gentes Le han visto en forma física en distintos lugares en todo el mundo.
Hay miles de libros que narran experiencias en donde gentes vieran la presencia física de Swami en todo el mundo. Además, hay muchas gentes que no han estado aquí y que, sin embargo, son fervientes devotos de Bhagavan Sri Sathya Sai Baba. Entonces, ¿cómo es que dicen que no está con nosotros?
Si alguien dijera, "Swami me ha dejado", estaría cometiendo un craso error. Él no les puede dejar – ¡igual como no se pueden dejar a sí mismos! ¿Pueden abandonarse a sí mismos? ¡No, imposible! No pueden dejarse a sí mismos, porque esa realidad existencial es la Divinidad de Bhagavan Sri Sathya Sai Baba. Mientras yo esté aquí, Swami está aquí. Ese 'yo', esa alma individual, es Él, el alma universal. De modo que díganle a todos que Swami está con nosotros.
Él insistía en decirnos repetidamente ésto. "Estoy con ustedes, en ustedes, por encima de ustedes, debajo de ustedes, en torno a ustedes". Cuando yo echaba de menos a alguien, Él solía decir, 'En tí' – agrega también a ese." Ustedes lo saben. De modo que si Él está en ustedes, por encima de ustedes, por debajo de ustedes, el torno a ustedes, ¿cómo puede dejarles? ¡Imposible!
LA GENERACIÓN DE HOY DIA CUESTIONA CADA DECLARACIÓN
Habrá cuestionamientos que recibirán de mucha gente, no podemos escaparles. No puedo decir, "Estás cometiendo un pecado" o " Te vas a quedar ciego si haces esas preguntas". Esos días ya pasaron. Si hablaran así, sus nietos les dirán, "Tata (abuelo), va siendo hora que te concentres en tí mismo. Manténte calmo y compuesto, pero no me hables." Los niños de hoy son sumamente inteligentes; no podemos silenciarles.
En nuestra generación, no nos atrevíamos a hacer preguntas. La siguiente generación pudo comenzar a hacer algunas. Hoy, sin embargo, ¡cuestionan cada declaración!
Si le preguntas a tu hijo, "¿Te pondrás esta camisa azul?" "¿Por qué?" dirá de inmediato. "¿Por qué? ¿Por qué no?" Este es el signo de esta era. No podemos culparles. Ha subido el IQ de su inteligencia. Incluso les felicitamos. No hay niño que no pueda trabajar con un computador. . . ¡en tanto que yo no entiendo de computadores! Le pido a mi nieto, "Oye, enséñame algo sobre el computador."
Me dice de inmediato, "Díme a mí lo que quieras hacer. Enseñarte es imposible." Y agregó, "Además, enseñarte también es aburrido."
Le dije entonces, "He estado enseñando por 48 años y nunca lo encontré aburrido. No sé por qué lo sientes así."
"Sí, dime lo que necesites hacer y lo haré, eso es todo.". De modo que no podemos echarle la culpa a los niños.
Y ahora bien, ¿cuáles son las preguntas que recibirán?
¿POR QUÉ SUFRIÓ SWAMI DURANTE UN PROLONGADO PERÍODO?
Esta es una de las preguntas : "¿Por qué sufrió por un largo período Swami? ¿Cómo es que los órganos vitales fallaron de pronto? ¿Es posible que colapsen todos al mismo tiempo? ¿O, es como lo sospechan algunos, que se produjo a lo largo del tiempo, ya que no pueden dañarse todos juntos?
Entonces, "¿Por qué sucedió?" es una de las preguntas que recibirán. No les pueden decir que se callen. Las personas sentirán lástima por ustedes. Esta es la respuesta, mis amigos.
Puede que Baba haya tenido un problema. Podría haber tenido un problema. La grandeza de Baba, la singularidad de Baba y la Divinidad de Baba es que nunca se quejó frente a nadie en ningún momento. Eso queda en claro en Sus discursos. Nunca se quejó por nada.
Sé de personas que al acercarse a Swami, preguntaban, "¿Cómo está?"
"Estoy perfectamente."
"Swami, ¿cómo estás?"
"Estoy muy bien."
"Bhagavan, ¿cómo estás en realidad?"
"¡Si vuelves a preguntar, haré que de echen!" (Risas)
Siempre les responde, "¡Estoy bien, estoy bien!"
Mas sabemos al mirarle que no está tan bien como dice estarlo. Debido a tantos problemas por las fracturas que sufrió en la región pélvica, no está en absoluto libre de dolores. Mas siempre dice, "Estoy bien." ¿Por qué?
¿Podrían decir que están bien, con una cefalea? Si les doliera la cabeza, ¿dirían que están bien? No van a decir "Bien". Y no sólo eso, ¡sino que le van a causar dolores de cabeza también a otros en la familia! Debido a la cefalea que sufren, no deberá haber visitas, no se deberá bromear; nadie debiera ver TV y no deberá preparase un postre ni traer helados. Toda la casa estará bajo toque de queda porque ustedes sufren de un dolor de cabeza. ¡De modo que su cefalea viene a ser un dolor de cabeza universal!
Por otro lado, tomen a Bhagavan Baba, con todo el dolor como lo imagináramos, como lo observáramos, Él nunca dijo, "Tengo estos problemas". En cambio, siempre dijo, "Estoy muy bien". Es un mensaje sobre el que todos nosotros debiéramos reflexionar, como para que podamos decirles a todos, "Estoy bien, estoy muy bien."
En estos días nos cruzamos con gente así : "¿Cómo está usted?"
"Chelta hai, dhuniya – echando para adelante, echando para adelante..."
¿Qué es 'echando para adelante'? ¿Son una carga o equipaje? ¿Qué es ésto? Y hay otros que dicen, "Estoy cerca del final de la vida". No necesitan revelarlo. Eso ya está decidido; Él conoce la fecha de vencimiento.
Por ende, no digamos "Voy echando para adelante. Sigo adelante." La vida es así. ¡Déjense de leseras! El mensaje de Baba es decir, "Estoy muy bien". A pesar de y sin considerar todos los problemas que podamos tener o que suponemos tener. Así es como yo lo tomo.
BHAGAVAN ESTÁ MÁS ALLÁ DEL CUERPO
El segundo mensaje también es éste : mucha gente puede estar diciendo que Él debe haber tenido este problema desde hace mucho, o que por lo menos lo ha estado sufriendo el último mes. Muy bien, pueden llevar un diario de Sus problemas, bien. Mas lo que estoy diciendo es ésto : Él trabajó para Sus devotos hasta la última gota de Su sangre. Con todo el daño que se estaba desarrollando en Su cuerpo; Sus pensamientos y Su constante pensar estaban con los devotos, con su felicidad y su agrado. ¡Eso es Bhagavan Sri Sathya Sai Baba! (Aplausos)
Jesús dejó Su cuerpo en la cruz. Jesús en la cruz representa el sacrificio supremo por la humanidad entera. ¿Quién podía redimir nuestras vidas? ¿Quién podía liberarnos de los pecados? Esta es la idea de nuestros hermanos cristianos. Jesús sacrificó Su vida por todos nosotros.
Bhagavan sacrificó Su tiempo, Su energía y todo Su cuerpo por Sus devotos, porque no tiene a nadie más sino a Sus devotos. Eso es Bhagavan Sri Sathya Sai Baba. Entonces, ¿por qué sufrió? Por ustedes y por mí. ¿Por qué se sacrificó? Por ustedes y por mí. ¿Por qué sufrió ese tipo de dolor? No tuvo ninguna clase de dolor. ¿Por qué? Porque Él está más allá del cuerpo. Él no es el cuerpo. Él siempre dijo, "Ustedes no son el cuerpo." Siendo que ustedes no son el cuerpo, ¿cómo podría Él ser el cuerpo? Todo esto es tontería.
¿Cómo puedo decir eso? Lo digo sobre la base de mi experiencia personal. Bhagavan comienza a las 05:30 o 06:00 hrs en la mañana, viajando de Bangalore a Kodaikanal. Llega allá cerca del las 18:00 hrs. de la tarde. Es un viaje contínuo de 12 horas. Y, por favor créanme. No se sirve ni una cucharada de alimento. No bebe café ni té. No se lava la cara ni va a refrescarse. Las gentes piden 'Por favor, voy a refrescarme.' Ustedes necesitan refrescarse a cada rato, ¡pero no muestran mejoría alguna!
Baba nunca dice, "Permítanme ir a refrescarme", porque esa frescura es Bhagavan Sri Sathya Sai Baba. No necesita refrescarse, créanme. Llega tan fresco a las 18:00 hrs a Kodaikanal como cuendo saliera a las 05:30 en la mañana – fresco como una rosa – en tanto que los que Le seguimos nos servimos desayuno, almuerzo y nos fuimos recargando durante todo el trayecto. ¡Sí! Y además de eso, ¡se han juntado latas y más latas de refrescos!
Se Le planteaó esta pregunta a Swami, "Bhagavan, comemos y comemos, pero aún estamos débiles. Tu no comes, mas estás lleno de energía. ¿Por qué?" En lugares como Kodaikanal, Ooty, Shimla y Delhi uno tiene muchas, pero muchas maravillosas oportunidades para estar cerca Suyo y de hacer estas preguntas; en tanto que en Puttaparthi, todo lo que tienen que hacer es sentarse. Si Él les mira, está bien. Si Él les habla, celébrenlo. Si Él les concede una entrevista, ¡alardéen sobre ella!
"Swami, ¿por qué estás tan lleno de energía siendo que Tu no has comido nada?"
¿Saben lo que dijo? "Ustedes extraen la energía de los alimentos que ingieren. La comida es la fuente de energía para todos ustedes. Yo no necesito ingerir alimentos, porque Yo soy esa energía. Yo soy la energía." Eso es Bhagavan Sri Sathya Sai Baba.
Por eso, amigos míos, Él es energía, no el cuerpo. Él es la frescura, no el cuerpo. Él no es poderoso – ¡Él es el poder! Uno puede ser poderoso adquiriendo poder, mas Él es el poder mismo personificado.
Puedo darles muchos ejemplos como este, demostrando que Él está más allá del cuerpo. Por eso, si alguien les pregunta, "Por qué tomó tanto tiempo?" es porque Él no es el cuerpo. Me atrevo a decirlo. Ustedes podrían hasta cuestionarme. Pueden incluso no creerme, no me importa. Basado en mi experiencia, les digo : el cuerpo de Bhagavan Baba es tan tierno, tan delicado, tan suave – como el pétalo de una rosa, como el pétalo de una flor de jazmín. Es tan tierno, tan delicado, tan suave, tal bello y muy puro.
Cuando se acercan a Él para algún padaseva, se darán cuenta de ello. Cualquier presión adicional sobre Sus pies al hacer algún padaseva o masaje, causará ampollas en Sus pies porque no puede soportarlo. La piel es tan suave y delicada. Es sumamente sensible.
En una oportunidad, los muchachos estaban haciendo padaseva, o sea dándole masaje a Sus pies. Yo quería hacerlo. Él me vió y dijo, "Ven, hazlo."
Mientras lo hacía, me entusiasmé demasiado. A la mañana siguiente me dijo, "¡Abha! Me arden los pies – mira las ampollas. ¡Abha! No puedo bajar, ven."
Entonces no pude sino abrir los grifos en mis ojos y permitir que fluyera el agua. Empecé a llorar.
Baba dijo de inmediato. "No hay nada de malo contigo. Estabas discutiendo alguns cosas y Yo disfrutaba. De modo que no Me dí cuenta de lo sucedido y de qué hacías. Después que te fueras, Me dí cuenta del dolor." Esto es prueba suficiente para decir que no se preocupa de qué pasa con Su cuerpo.
Ahora, mi pregunta es la siguiente : amigos míos, con ese suave, delicado, tierno y sensible cuerpo, ¿cómo pudo soportar todos los pinchazos e intervenciones en Su cuerpo? ¿Cómo pudo resistir todo eso?
Mi respuesta es la siguiente : Él le permitió a Su cuerpo el permanecer allí, en la cama del hospital, mientras Él partió en unas vacaciones espirituales, visitando a todos Sus devotos durante ese tiempo. Él no puede ser el cuerpo, créanmelo – ¡imposible! Porque con Su delicada naturaleza, para un cuerpo tan sensible, resulta imposible que resista tantas agujas como esas. No puede resistir ese tipo de tratamiento por un período tan prolongado. Debe haber dejado el cuerpo allí en la cama. O debe haber partido a Hollywood o a Bollywood – no lo sabemos. Debe haber visitado Malasia o Indonesia y haber vuelto sólo después.
¿POR QUÉ HABRÍA DE QUEDARSE SWAMI POR TANTO TIEMPO
EN EL HOSPITAL?
Y entonces, la gente hará otra pregunta : "¿Por qué tendría que haberse quedado por tan largo tiempo en el hospital? ¿Por qué veintisiete días?"
Les estoy dando estas respuestas, porque van a enfrentar estas preguntas de regreso a casa. No podrán evitarlas. No se muestren cobardes en ningún momento, porque, por Su Divina gracia, llevamos suficiente información con nosotros.
Debe haberse quedado por tan largo tiempo allí para que todos nosotros nos preparáramos para cuando se produjera el evento final. Si hubiera habido un anuncio repentino, Le habrían seguido miles. Miles habrían perdido sus vidas. De modo que Él nos dió tiempo para prepararnos.
¡También nos dió tiempo, como para que supiéramos que Él había decidido partir! No fueron los médicos ni su tratamiento. Él Mismo permitió ser tratado. "Sucederá cuando Yo lo decida. Sucederá : Yo me retiro cuando quiera. ¿Por qué? Pude venir al cuerpo cuando fué Mi voluntad, así me iré cuando Yo lo decida."
Puede que no me crean, pero es verdad. Hace un par de años, frente a la estatua de Ganesha allí en el dais, Baba me dijo, "Aquí va a estar el Samadhi." Esto fue hace un par de años.
Le dije entonces, "Swami, yo soy un tipo tímido. No soy el hombre indicado para escuchar estas cosas. Por favor no me hables sobre eso. No lo quiero saber."
Entonces dijo, "Oye, es seguro que ha de pasar un día o el otro. ¿Por qué sientes miedo de eso?" Y agregó, "No todavía, aún queda tiempo."
Él decidió acerca de este lugar hace tiempo, un par de años atrás. Y no sólo eso, sino también hace algunos años, mientras les hablaba a los estudiantes, surgió esta misma pregunta, acerca de si iba a estar en Su cuerpo por 96 años.
"Swami ¿vas a estar aquí hasta los 96?" Y dijo, "Si lo quiero, podría estar más que ese período. ¿Por qué sólo 96? Por cualquier tiempo que Yo quiera. Si lo decidiera, ¡dejaría este cuerpo ahora mismo!" Él lo dijo.
Y entonces, yo suave y lentamente hice acopio de valor y dije, "Esto es Kodaikanal, Swami. Estamos de vacaciones de verano. Todos los chicos han venido a divertirse y pasarlo bien en Tu compañía, no para escuchar estas palabras. Se asustan. Estos son momentos para disfrutar el estar Contigo y comer tanto como podamos. Pero no podemos oir estas palabras."
Mas Baba dijo entonces, "Puedo retirarme en el momento que lo decida."
De modo, mis amigos, estas son las respuestas que debieran tener a mano – una respuesta para nosotros mismos. Manténganse libres de dudas; nunca duden que está el Dios vivo, un Dios amoroso, entre nosotros. Él continuará estando con nosotros por siempre jamás. No les quepan dudas al respecto. Su mensaje continuará inspirando a todos en todo el mundo.
¿CUÁL ES EL MILAGRO DE BABA?
¿Cuál es el milagro de Baba? El milagro de Baba no es sólo el de materializar objetos. El milagro de Baba es el que pudiera alcanzar hasta lugares como Argentina, Brasil, Chile, México y tantos otros así de lejanos. ¡Díganme! ¡Nombren un país! Él ya está allí. Un pedido general para todos ustedes, amigos míos – estén seguros de ésto. ¡Díganlo enfáticamente, con convicción! Díganselo a todos. ¿Y qué es? Él es el único Jagat Guru – maestro del mundo – el único.
Sin salir de Puttaparthi, sin moverse de Prasanthi Nilayam, trajo al mundo entero hasta Su presencia. Él es el único. Esa es la prueba de Su milagro. Él no estiró Su mano. Él no le pidió a nadie que viniera. Él simplemente motivó a todos; inspiró a todos desde adentro. Ellos comenzaron a derramar su amor bajo la forma de sacrificio y de participación en la misión Divina. Relaten estas cosas. Compartan Su mensaje. Y permanezcan firmemente establecidos en su convicción.
Nunca vayan cambiando de un guru a otro guru, porque lo que no esté aquí no estará en ningún otro lugar. Créanme, en ninguna otra parte. ¡Imposible, imposible! Después de disfrutar a Bhagavan
Baba, después de experimentar Su infinita compasión, habiendo recibido una cantidad de mercedes, habiendo tenido una infinitud de experiencias, no necesitan ir a parte alguna. ¿Qué sería lo que no tienen?
Por eso, díganle a todos – nuestro Bhagavan está con nosotros. Swami está en mí. Él continuará inspirándome. Él continuará organizando actividades en nuestra área. Estoy seguro que la próxima vez que vengan devotos de Indonesia, Malasia, Japón, Hong Kong, Tailandia y Taiwan, doblarán su número. No cabe la menor duda – ¡van a doblar su número!
¿QUE PASARÁ CON PUTTAPARTHI DESPUÉS DE BABA?
Las gentes están haciendo esta pregunta, "¿Qué pasará con Puttaparthi después de Baba?" Primero, la pregunta misma es una pregunta estúpida, porque no existe un 'después de Baba' ni un 'antes de Baba'. Baba es Baba : Él es eternamente-existente, de modo que no es cuestión de un 'después'. Háblenle a todos abiertamente sobre este punto. De hecho, todos los centros de peregrinación se han desarrollado después que las grandes almas abandonaran sus cuerpos, no durante sus vidas.
Bhagavan Sri Sathya Sai Baba hizo de Prasanthi Nilayam un modelo de rol para todo el mundo. Hay un solo lugar en donde se encuentran gentes de todas las religiones, en donde gentes de todos los grupos etarios y de todas las profesiones se reunen – ¡tan sólo un lugar! Durante Su vida, estableció instituciones educacionales y hospitales justo en este lugar.
Todo está preparado; ahora es asunto ya hecho. No necesitan desarrollar nada. Basta con que no lo echen a perder. Basta con que no lo desacrediten. Es nuestra responsabilidad el mantener esta Divina Propiedad, en cuanto fideicomisarios de esta Divina propiedad, que nos diera Bhagavan Sri Sathya Sri Baba.
Manténganse atentos a la Divina presencia en cada momento de sus vidas.
Recuerdo feliz mi visita a Borobudur. También recuerdo mi visita a Malsia. También recuerdo mi visita a Sri Lanka – el lugar del diente de Buda, Kandy. Vi inmensas estatuas de Bhagavan Buda en Kobe, Japón.
En Hong Kong hay una estatua de Buda en la cumbre de un cerro, recordándome al Señor Venkateshwara – al igual que Él sobre la séptima cumbre. Ahí en Hong Kong, Venkateshwara está sobre la cumbre como el Señor Buda. Cuando suben a la cumbre, está rodeada de nubes. De modo que resulta muy difícil verle a menos que se escalen los peldaños. En posición sedente, Buda le da la bienvenida todos, ¡como el abuelo que espera el regreso de su nieto! Uno no puede dejar de llorar parado frente a la estatua de Bhagavan Buda.
Recuerdo esos lugares, todos los centros de peregrinación asociados con Buda, y que el Buda es Bhagavan Baba. Bhagavan Baba es Buda. ¡No hay diferencia! El Uno de aquel tiempo es Él ahora, en estos tiempos. ¡Él vivirá por siempre jamás!

HISTORIA DE LAS ESTILOGRÁFICAS DE ORO
Esta historia sucedió poco después de haberme unido a la institución de Swami, en una temprana etapa de mi vida con Swami. Esa temprana etapa fue el 'período de luna de miel' – durante el que podemos gozar de cierta libertad. Después viene el pesado período de instrucción, el período desafiante. Esa es la vida espiritual que uno ha de aprobar mientras se está con Swami.
En esos días y hasta estos días, noté que Swami no se preocupaba por nada. No mencionaré el nombre de la persona involucrada en este historia. Como sea, ella trajo estilográficas de oro y quería que Swami las recibiera y aceptara.
El señor que las traía, me dijo, "Por favor, dígale a Swami que he traído estas estilográficas de oro."
En la época, yo no entendía su lógica. Inocentemente fui donde Swami y Le dije que fulano había traído estilográficas de oro.
Swami dijo, "Recíbelas tu. Recíbelas tú."
"Swami, no las ha traído para mí. No están destinadas para mí."
"No, no. Tu estás diciendo que las trajo, de modo que tu las recibes."
"No, no Swami, son para Tí. Han de ser distribuidas entre los estudiantes."
Y entonces Baba lo explicó así : "Trajo las estilográficas para que Yo le concediera una entrevista, y para que así él pueda conseguir un asiento en la primera fila cada día. Swami nunca va a hacer negocios como ese. Si insiste, le voy a pedir que salga del recinto. ¡No permitiré que entre nunca más al ashram!"
PRACTIQUEN EL DESAPEGO EN MEDIO DE LOS APEGOS
¡Él es Buda! Bhagavan es Buda, porque no está apegado a nadie ni a nada. Esta es la experiencia de la mayoría de la gente. Cuando camina entre los devotos, algunas personas consiguen entrevistas. Son bendecidas con entrevistas. Allí en la sala de entrevistas, habla de una manera tal, como si todo el Avatar estuviera allí sólo para uno. Él les crea esa impresión. Les alaba, alaba su sadhana, su familia, su vida, sus prospectos, su mujer o marido, y qué se yo. Entonces piensan que son tan importantes.
Tan pronto como salen de la entrevista, van a contarle a la gente, "¿Saben lo que dijo Swami?" Por qué habría de saber yo lo que Él le dijera a usted. . . ¡Mas así y todo, seguimos contando esto y lo otro!
Al día siguiente, o esa misma tarde, cuando Swami pasa por su lado, ¡ni siquiera les mira! "Allí en la sala de entrevistas me diste la impresión que Tu y yo éramos uno. Pero ahora, Tu estás ahí y yo,
acá, no soy nadie. (Risas) Swami, ¿no me conoces? ¿No me reconoces? ¿Qué pasó con el romance
allí en la sala de entrevistas? Desapego, eso es lo que Él quiere, ¡eso es todo! Depués de eso, ni
jugando. . . nada de apego.
Me siento muy sorprendido. Tuve una cantidad de dulces conversaciones con Él en diferentes lugares, como Kodaikanal, Ooty, Delhi, Bombay, Shimla, Pune y otros. Inmediatamente después de nuestro regreso acá, actúa de tal manera que pareciera como si jamás nos hubiéramos conocido (Risas) – como si nunca nos hubiésemos encontrado siquiera. ¡Pero si ayer viajamos juntos! ¿Qué significa ésto?
Hari Om, eso es todo. Eso es desapego. Eso es nirvana. Eso es como hemos de practicar el desapego en medio de todos los apegos. Esa es la práctica del desapego en medio de los apegos. Hasta en medio de la familia hay un modo de trascender e ir más allá.
TODOS HAN DE ALCANZAR ESA PERSONALIDAD 'BÚDICA'
Por ende, mis amigos, el nivana o liberación no es un logro. El nirvana no se consigue. No es algo para ser declarado, anunciado ni televisado. Nacen liberados; ¡han perdido la liberación en el camino! Consiguieron quedar cautivos; están atrapados en la jaula del cautiverio. El intento es de salir, el volver a disfrutar de la liberación en la que inicialmente nacieran. Por lo tanto, nací liberado, pero me quedé atrapado en el cautiverio.
Mediante el sadhana experimento nuevamente ese estado inicial de liberación o nirvana. De modo, amigos míos, que el nirvana es nuestro derecho de nacimiento. El nirvana es el estado natural, en tanto que el cautiverio es de nuestra propia hechura. ¡Bhagavan Buda! Qué clase de estado es. Hemos de entender que Buda es un estado. En realidad, Él es Siddhartha Gautama. Mas ésto es la personalidad 'Búdica', 'Crística' o 'Kríshnica' – este es el estado. Cada vez que sientan ese espíritu de sacrificio, eso será lo 'Crístico'. En dondequiera que encuentren compasión, eso será lo 'Búdico'.
De modo que todos deben alcanzar lo 'Búdico', el estado del nirvana o liberación, a través de la instrospección y del llegar a saber qué es real y qué no-real (nithya, anithya). Nithya significa 'lo eterno', en tanto que anithya significa 'lo efímero'. Hemos de distinguir entre estos dos con viveka, que es nuestro sentido de discernimiento. Entonces conseguiremos la experiencia del nirvana.
¡ SWAMI ESTÁ SIEMPRE CON NOSOTROS !
De modo, mis amigos, que luego de estas palabras, tengo algunos puntos que compartir con ustedes a estas alturas. Estoy sumamente consciente del hecho que le estoy hablando a devotos de Bhagavan Sri Sathya Sai Baba. En esta reunión también se encuentran presentes líderes de la organización, convocadores, presidentes, representantes de la rama femenina, gurus de Balvikas y trabajadores activos.
Esta asamblea es una congregación de trabajadores activos de la Organización Sri Sathya Sai venidos de diez países diferentes. En este contexto, apelo sinceramente a ustedes por lo siguiente : ¡díganle a todos que Swami está siempre con nosotros! ¡No se ha ido a ninguna parte! Está siempre con nosotros. Y continuará estando siempre con nosotros. Repítanle esto a todos.
En primer lugar, convénzanse de esto. Experiméntenlo y declárenlo abiertamente. Puede que pregunten, "¿Cómo declararlo? ¿Cómo decirlo abiertamente? ¿Cómo me convenzo a mí mismo?" La respuesta es simple. ¿No apareció Swami en Indonesia? ¿No apareció Swami en Malasia? ¿No apareció en Argentina? Muchas gentes Le han visto en forma física en distintos lugares en todo el mundo.
Hay miles de libros que narran experiencias en donde gentes vieran la presencia física de Swami en todo el mundo. Además, hay muchas gentes que no han estado aquí y que, sin embargo, son fervientes devotos de Bhagavan Sri Sathya Sai Baba. Entonces, ¿cómo es que dicen que no está con nosotros?
Si alguien dijera, "Swami me ha dejado", estaría cometiendo un craso error. Él no les puede dejar – ¡igual como no se pueden dejar a sí mismos! ¿Pueden abandonarse a sí mismos? ¡No, imposible! No pueden dejarse a sí mismos, porque esa realidad existencial es la Divinidad de Bhagavan Sri Sathya Sai Baba. Mientras yo esté aquí, Swami está aquí. Ese 'yo', esa alma individual, es Él, el alma universal. De modo que díganle a todos que Swami está con nosotros.
Él insistía en decirnos repetidamente ésto. "Estoy con ustedes, en ustedes, por encima de ustedes, debajo de ustedes, en torno a ustedes". Cuando yo echaba de menos a alguien, Él solía decir, 'En tí' – agrega también a ese." Ustedes lo saben. De modo que si Él está en ustedes, por encima de ustedes, por debajo de ustedes, el torno a ustedes, ¿cómo puede dejarles? ¡Imposible!
LA GENERACIÓN DE HOY DIA CUESTIONA CADA DECLARACIÓN
Habrá cuestionamientos que recibirán de mucha gente, no podemos escaparles. No puedo decir, "Estás cometiendo un pecado" o " Te vas a quedar ciego si haces esas preguntas". Esos días ya pasaron. Si hablaran así, sus nietos les dirán, "Tata (abuelo), va siendo hora que te concentres en tí mismo. Manténte calmo y compuesto, pero no me hables." Los niños de hoy son sumamente inteligentes; no podemos silenciarles.
En nuestra generación, no nos atrevíamos a hacer preguntas. La siguiente generación pudo comenzar a hacer algunas. Hoy, sin embargo, ¡cuestionan cada declaración!
Si le preguntas a tu hijo, "¿Te pondrás esta camisa azul?" "¿Por qué?" dirá de inmediato. "¿Por qué? ¿Por qué no?" Este es el signo de esta era. No podemos culparles. Ha subido el IQ de su inteligencia. Incluso les felicitamos. No hay niño que no pueda trabajar con un computador. . . ¡en tanto que yo no entiendo de computadores! Le pido a mi nieto, "Oye, enséñame algo sobre el computador."
Me dice de inmediato, "Díme a mí lo que quieras hacer. Enseñarte es imposible." Y agregó, "Además, enseñarte también es aburrido."
Le dije entonces, "He estado enseñando por 48 años y nunca lo encontré aburrido. No sé por qué lo sientes así."
"Sí, dime lo que necesites hacer y lo haré, eso es todo.". De modo que no podemos echarle la culpa a los niños.
Y ahora bien, ¿cuáles son las preguntas que recibirán?
¿POR QUÉ SUFRIÓ SWAMI DURANTE UN PROLONGADO PERÍODO?
Esta es una de las preguntas : "¿Por qué sufrió por un largo período Swami? ¿Cómo es que los órganos vitales fallaron de pronto? ¿Es posible que colapsen todos al mismo tiempo? ¿O, es como lo sospechan algunos, que se produjo a lo largo del tiempo, ya que no pueden dañarse todos juntos?
Entonces, "¿Por qué sucedió?" es una de las preguntas que recibirán. No les pueden decir que se callen. Las personas sentirán lástima por ustedes. Esta es la respuesta, mis amigos.
Puede que Baba haya tenido un problema. Podría haber tenido un problema. La grandeza de Baba, la singularidad de Baba y la Divinidad de Baba es que nunca se quejó frente a nadie en ningún momento. Eso queda en claro en Sus discursos. Nunca se quejó por nada.
Sé de personas que al acercarse a Swami, preguntaban, "¿Cómo está?"
"Estoy perfectamente."
"Swami, ¿cómo estás?"
"Estoy muy bien."
"Bhagavan, ¿cómo estás en realidad?"
"¡Si vuelves a preguntar, haré que de echen!" (Risas)
Siempre les responde, "¡Estoy bien, estoy bien!"
Mas sabemos al mirarle que no está tan bien como dice estarlo. Debido a tantos problemas por las fracturas que sufrió en la región pélvica, no está en absoluto libre de dolores. Mas siempre dice, "Estoy bien." ¿Por qué?
¿Podrían decir que están bien, con una cefalea? Si les doliera la cabeza, ¿dirían que están bien? No van a decir "Bien". Y no sólo eso, ¡sino que le van a causar dolores de cabeza también a otros en la familia! Debido a la cefalea que sufren, no deberá haber visitas, no se deberá bromear; nadie debiera ver TV y no deberá preparase un postre ni traer helados. Toda la casa estará bajo toque de queda porque ustedes sufren de un dolor de cabeza. ¡De modo que su cefalea viene a ser un dolor de cabeza universal!
Por otro lado, tomen a Bhagavan Baba, con todo el dolor como lo imagináramos, como lo observáramos, Él nunca dijo, "Tengo estos problemas". En cambio, siempre dijo, "Estoy muy bien". Es un mensaje sobre el que todos nosotros debiéramos reflexionar, como para que podamos decirles a todos, "Estoy bien, estoy muy bien."
En estos días nos cruzamos con gente así : "¿Cómo está usted?"
"Chelta hai, dhuniya – echando para adelante, echando para adelante..."
¿Qué es 'echando para adelante'? ¿Son una carga o equipaje? ¿Qué es ésto? Y hay otros que dicen, "Estoy cerca del final de la vida". No necesitan revelarlo. Eso ya está decidido; Él conoce la fecha de vencimiento.
Por ende, no digamos "Voy echando para adelante. Sigo adelante." La vida es así. ¡Déjense de leseras! El mensaje de Baba es decir, "Estoy muy bien". A pesar de y sin considerar todos los problemas que podamos tener o que suponemos tener. Así es como yo lo tomo.
BHAGAVAN ESTÁ MÁS ALLÁ DEL CUERPO
El segundo mensaje también es éste : mucha gente puede estar diciendo que Él debe haber tenido este problema desde hace mucho, o que por lo menos lo ha estado sufriendo el último mes. Muy bien, pueden llevar un diario de Sus problemas, bien. Mas lo que estoy diciendo es ésto : Él trabajó para Sus devotos hasta la última gota de Su sangre. Con todo el daño que se estaba desarrollando en Su cuerpo; Sus pensamientos y Su constante pensar estaban con los devotos, con su felicidad y su agrado. ¡Eso es Bhagavan Sri Sathya Sai Baba! (Aplausos)
Jesús dejó Su cuerpo en la cruz. Jesús en la cruz representa el sacrificio supremo por la humanidad entera. ¿Quién podía redimir nuestras vidas? ¿Quién podía liberarnos de los pecados? Esta es la idea de nuestros hermanos cristianos. Jesús sacrificó Su vida por todos nosotros.
Bhagavan sacrificó Su tiempo, Su energía y todo Su cuerpo por Sus devotos, porque no tiene a nadie más sino a Sus devotos. Eso es Bhagavan Sri Sathya Sai Baba. Entonces, ¿por qué sufrió? Por ustedes y por mí. ¿Por qué se sacrificó? Por ustedes y por mí. ¿Por qué sufrió ese tipo de dolor? No tuvo ninguna clase de dolor. ¿Por qué? Porque Él está más allá del cuerpo. Él no es el cuerpo. Él siempre dijo, "Ustedes no son el cuerpo." Siendo que ustedes no son el cuerpo, ¿cómo podría Él ser el cuerpo? Todo esto es tontería.
¿Cómo puedo decir eso? Lo digo sobre la base de mi experiencia personal. Bhagavan comienza a las 05:30 o 06:00 hrs en la mañana, viajando de Bangalore a Kodaikanal. Llega allá cerca del las 18:00 hrs. de la tarde. Es un viaje contínuo de 12 horas. Y, por favor créanme. No se sirve ni una cucharada de alimento. No bebe café ni té. No se lava la cara ni va a refrescarse. Las gentes piden 'Por favor, voy a refrescarme.' Ustedes necesitan refrescarse a cada rato, ¡pero no muestran mejoría alguna!
Baba nunca dice, "Permítanme ir a refrescarme", porque esa frescura es Bhagavan Sri Sathya Sai Baba. No necesita refrescarse, créanme. Llega tan fresco a las 18:00 hrs a Kodaikanal como cuendo saliera a las 05:30 en la mañana – fresco como una rosa – en tanto que los que Le seguimos nos servimos desayuno, almuerzo y nos fuimos recargando durante todo el trayecto. ¡Sí! Y además de eso, ¡se han juntado latas y más latas de refrescos!
Se Le planteaó esta pregunta a Swami, "Bhagavan, comemos y comemos, pero aún estamos débiles. Tu no comes, mas estás lleno de energía. ¿Por qué?" En lugares como Kodaikanal, Ooty, Shimla y Delhi uno tiene muchas, pero muchas maravillosas oportunidades para estar cerca Suyo y de hacer estas preguntas; en tanto que en Puttaparthi, todo lo que tienen que hacer es sentarse. Si Él les mira, está bien. Si Él les habla, celébrenlo. Si Él les concede una entrevista, ¡alardéen sobre ella!
"Swami, ¿por qué estás tan lleno de energía siendo que Tu no has comido nada?"
¿Saben lo que dijo? "Ustedes extraen la energía de los alimentos que ingieren. La comida es la fuente de energía para todos ustedes. Yo no necesito ingerir alimentos, porque Yo soy esa energía. Yo soy la energía." Eso es Bhagavan Sri Sathya Sai Baba.
Por eso, amigos míos, Él es energía, no el cuerpo. Él es la frescura, no el cuerpo. Él no es poderoso – ¡Él es el poder! Uno puede ser poderoso adquiriendo poder, mas Él es el poder mismo personificado.
Puedo darles muchos ejemplos como este, demostrando que Él está más allá del cuerpo. Por eso, si alguien les pregunta, "Por qué tomó tanto tiempo?" es porque Él no es el cuerpo. Me atrevo a decirlo. Ustedes podrían hasta cuestionarme. Pueden incluso no creerme, no me importa. Basado en mi experiencia, les digo : el cuerpo de Bhagavan Baba es tan tierno, tan delicado, tan suave – como el pétalo de una rosa, como el pétalo de una flor de jazmín. Es tan tierno, tan delicado, tan suave, tal bello y muy puro.
Cuando se acercan a Él para algún padaseva, se darán cuenta de ello. Cualquier presión adicional sobre Sus pies al hacer algún padaseva o masaje, causará ampollas en Sus pies porque no puede soportarlo. La piel es tan suave y delicada. Es sumamente sensible.
En una oportunidad, los muchachos estaban haciendo padaseva, o sea dándole masaje a Sus pies. Yo quería hacerlo. Él me vió y dijo, "Ven, hazlo."
Mientras lo hacía, me entusiasmé demasiado. A la mañana siguiente me dijo, "¡Abha! Me arden los pies – mira las ampollas. ¡Abha! No puedo bajar, ven."
Entonces no pude sino abrir los grifos en mis ojos y permitir que fluyera el agua. Empecé a llorar.
Baba dijo de inmediato. "No hay nada de malo contigo. Estabas discutiendo alguns cosas y Yo disfrutaba. De modo que no Me dí cuenta de lo sucedido y de qué hacías. Después que te fueras, Me dí cuenta del dolor." Esto es prueba suficiente para decir que no se preocupa de qué pasa con Su cuerpo.
Ahora, mi pregunta es la siguiente : amigos míos, con ese suave, delicado, tierno y sensible cuerpo, ¿cómo pudo soportar todos los pinchazos e intervenciones en Su cuerpo? ¿Cómo pudo resistir todo eso?
Mi respuesta es la siguiente : Él le permitió a Su cuerpo el permanecer allí, en la cama del hospital, mientras Él partió en unas vacaciones espirituales, visitando a todos Sus devotos durante ese tiempo. Él no puede ser el cuerpo, créanmelo – ¡imposible! Porque con Su delicada naturaleza, para un cuerpo tan sensible, resulta imposible que resista tantas agujas como esas. No puede resistir ese tipo de tratamiento por un período tan prolongado. Debe haber dejado el cuerpo allí en la cama. O debe haber partido a Hollywood o a Bollywood – no lo sabemos. Debe haber visitado Malasia o Indonesia y haber vuelto sólo después.
¿POR QUÉ HABRÍA DE QUEDARSE SWAMI POR TANTO TIEMPO
EN EL HOSPITAL?
Y entonces, la gente hará otra pregunta : "¿Por qué tendría que haberse quedado por tan largo tiempo en el hospital? ¿Por qué veintisiete días?"
Les estoy dando estas respuestas, porque van a enfrentar estas preguntas de regreso a casa. No podrán evitarlas. No se muestren cobardes en ningún momento, porque, por Su Divina gracia, llevamos suficiente información con nosotros.
Debe haberse quedado por tan largo tiempo allí para que todos nosotros nos preparáramos para cuando se produjera el evento final. Si hubiera habido un anuncio repentino, Le habrían seguido miles. Miles habrían perdido sus vidas. De modo que Él nos dió tiempo para prepararnos.
¡También nos dió tiempo, como para que supiéramos que Él había decidido partir! No fueron los médicos ni su tratamiento. Él Mismo permitió ser tratado. "Sucederá cuando Yo lo decida. Sucederá : Yo me retiro cuando quiera. ¿Por qué? Pude venir al cuerpo cuando fué Mi voluntad, así me iré cuando Yo lo decida."
Puede que no me crean, pero es verdad. Hace un par de años, frente a la estatua de Ganesha allí en el dais, Baba me dijo, "Aquí va a estar el Samadhi." Esto fue hace un par de años.
Le dije entonces, "Swami, yo soy un tipo tímido. No soy el hombre indicado para escuchar estas cosas. Por favor no me hables sobre eso. No lo quiero saber."
Entonces dijo, "Oye, es seguro que ha de pasar un día o el otro. ¿Por qué sientes miedo de eso?" Y agregó, "No todavía, aún queda tiempo."
Él decidió acerca de este lugar hace tiempo, un par de años atrás. Y no sólo eso, sino también hace algunos años, mientras les hablaba a los estudiantes, surgió esta misma pregunta, acerca de si iba a estar en Su cuerpo por 96 años.
"Swami ¿vas a estar aquí hasta los 96?" Y dijo, "Si lo quiero, podría estar más que ese período. ¿Por qué sólo 96? Por cualquier tiempo que Yo quiera. Si lo decidiera, ¡dejaría este cuerpo ahora mismo!" Él lo dijo.
Y entonces, yo suave y lentamente hice acopio de valor y dije, "Esto es Kodaikanal, Swami. Estamos de vacaciones de verano. Todos los chicos han venido a divertirse y pasarlo bien en Tu compañía, no para escuchar estas palabras. Se asustan. Estos son momentos para disfrutar el estar Contigo y comer tanto como podamos. Pero no podemos oir estas palabras."
Mas Baba dijo entonces, "Puedo retirarme en el momento que lo decida."
De modo, mis amigos, estas son las respuestas que debieran tener a mano – una respuesta para nosotros mismos. Manténganse libres de dudas; nunca duden que está el Dios vivo, un Dios amoroso, entre nosotros. Él continuará estando con nosotros por siempre jamás. No les quepan dudas al respecto. Su mensaje continuará inspirando a todos en todo el mundo.
¿CUÁL ES EL MILAGRO DE BABA?
¿Cuál es el milagro de Baba? El milagro de Baba no es sólo el de materializar objetos. El milagro de Baba es el que pudiera alcanzar hasta lugares como Argentina, Brasil, Chile, México y tantos otros así de lejanos. ¡Díganme! ¡Nombren un país! Él ya está allí. Un pedido general para todos ustedes, amigos míos – estén seguros de ésto. ¡Díganlo enfáticamente, con convicción! Díganselo a todos. ¿Y qué es? Él es el único Jagat Guru – maestro del mundo – el único.
Sin salir de Puttaparthi, sin moverse de Prasanthi Nilayam, trajo al mundo entero hasta Su presencia. Él es el único. Esa es la prueba de Su milagro. Él no estiró Su mano. Él no le pidió a nadie que viniera. Él simplemente motivó a todos; inspiró a todos desde adentro. Ellos comenzaron a derramar su amor bajo la forma de sacrificio y de participación en la misión Divina. Relaten estas cosas. Compartan Su mensaje. Y permanezcan firmemente establecidos en su convicción.
Nunca vayan cambiando de un guru a otro guru, porque lo que no esté aquí no estará en ningún otro lugar. Créanme, en ninguna otra parte. ¡Imposible, imposible! Después de disfrutar a Bhagavan
Baba, después de experimentar Su infinita compasión, habiendo recibido una cantidad de mercedes, habiendo tenido una infinitud de experiencias, no necesitan ir a parte alguna. ¿Qué sería lo que no tienen?
Por eso, díganle a todos – nuestro Bhagavan está con nosotros. Swami está en mí. Él continuará inspirándome. Él continuará organizando actividades en nuestra área. Estoy seguro que la próxima vez que vengan devotos de Indonesia, Malasia, Japón, Hong Kong, Tailandia y Taiwan, doblarán su número. No cabe la menor duda – ¡van a doblar su número!
¿QUE PASARÁ CON PUTTAPARTHI DESPUÉS DE BABA?
Las gentes están haciendo esta pregunta, "¿Qué pasará con Puttaparthi después de Baba?" Primero, la pregunta misma es una pregunta estúpida, porque no existe un 'después de Baba' ni un 'antes de Baba'. Baba es Baba : Él es eternamente-existente, de modo que no es cuestión de un 'después'. Háblenle a todos abiertamente sobre este punto. De hecho, todos los centros de peregrinación se han desarrollado después que las grandes almas abandonaran sus cuerpos, no durante sus vidas.
Bhagavan Sri Sathya Sai Baba hizo de Prasanthi Nilayam un modelo de rol para todo el mundo. Manténganse atentos a la Divina presencia en cada momento de sus vidas.
Recuerdo feliz mi visita a Borobudur. También recuerdo mi visita a Malsia. También recuerdo mi visita a Sri Lanka – el lugar del diente de Buda, Kandy. Vi inmensas estatuas de Bhagavan Buda en Kobe, Japón.
En Hong Kong hay una estatua de Buda en la cumbre de un cerro, recordándome al Señor Venkateshwara – al igual que Él sobre la séptima cumbre. Ahí en Hong Kong, Venkateshwara está sobre la cumbre como el Señor Buda. Cuando suben a la cumbre, está rodeada de nubes. De modo que resulta muy difícil verle a menos que se escalen los peldaños. En posición sedente, Buda le da la bienvenida todos, ¡como el abuelo que espera el regreso de su nieto! Uno no puede dejar de llorar parado frente a la estatua de Bhagavan Buda.

Dear Brothers and Sisters,
STORY OF THE GOLD PENS
This story happened soon after I joined Swami‘s institution, at an early stage of my life with
Swami. That early stage was the ‗honeymoon period‘—where we can have some liberty.
Thereafter comes a heavy training period, the challenging period. That is the spiritual life that
one has to go through while being with Swami.
In those days till these days, I saw Bhagavan did not care for anything. I will not mention the
name of the man involved in this story. Anyway, that man brought gold pens, and he wanted
Swami to receive and accept them.
The gentleman who brought these gold pens said to me, ―Please tell Swami that I have brought
gold pens.‖
At that time, I did not understand his logic. Innocently, I went to Swami and told Swami that soand-so brought gold pens.
Swami said, ―You take them. You take them.‖2
―Swami, he has not brought them for me. They are not meant for me.‖
―No, no. You are saying he has brought them, so you take.‖
―No, no Swami, they are meant for You. They have to be distributed to students.‖
Then Baba explained it in this way: ―He brought the pens so that I would grant him an interview,
and so that he can get a front row seat every day. Swami will never do business like that. If He
insists, I will ask him to get out of this gate. Let him not enter the ashram at all!‖
PRACTICE DETACHMENT IN THE MIDST OF ATTACHMENTS
He‘s Buddha! Bhagavan is Buddha because He‘s not attached to anybody or anything. This is
the experience of most of the people. When He goes around the devotees, sometimes some
people get interviews. They are blessed with interviews. There in the interview room, He talks in
such a way that the whole Avatar is there for you only. He gives you that impression. He goes
on praising you, your sadhana, your family, your life, your prospects, your wife, and what not.
Then you think you are so important.
The moment you come out of the interview, you go on telling people, ―You know what Swami
said?‖ Why should I know what He told you? But still we go on telling this and that!
The next day, or that evening itself, when Swami passes by your side, He won‘t even look at
you! ―There in the interview room, You gave me the impression that You and I are one. But
today, You are there and I am nobody here. (Laughter) Swami, don‘t you know me? Don‘t you
recognise me? What happened to that romance there in the interview room?‖ Detachment—this
is what He wants, that‘s all! Thereafter, it‘s nothing doing, no more attachment.
I‘m very much surprised. I have had a number of sweet conversations with Him at different
places like Kodaikanal, Ooty, Delhi, Simla, Bombay, Pune and other places. Immediately after
our return here, He moves in such a way as if we never knew each other (Laughter)—as if we
never met at anytime. But yesterday, we travelled together! So what‘s all this?
Hari Om, that‘s all. That is detachment. That is nirvana. That‘s how we have to practise
detachment in the midst of all attachments. That is the practice of detachment in the midst of
attachments. Even in the midst of family, there‘s a way to transcend and to go beyond.
EVERYONE HAS TO ATTAIN THAT BUDDHAHOOD
Therefore, my friends, nirvana or liberation is not an achievement. Nirvana is not an attainment.
It is not a thing to be declared, advertised, or telecast. You are born liberated; you lost liberation
in between! You got yourself bonded; you are entrapped in the cage of bondage. The attempt is
to get out, again enjoying the liberation in which you were initially born. Therefore, I am born
liberated, but I got trapped into bondage.
By sadhana, I experience once again that initial state of liberation or nirvana. Therefore my
friends, nirvana is our birthright. Nirvana is the natural state, while bondage is of our own
making. Bhagavan Buddha! What a kind of state it is. We have to understand Buddha is a state.
He‘s actually Siddhartha Gautama. But this is Buddhahood, Christhood, or Krishnahood—that is 3
the state. Wherever you feel that spirit of sacrifice, that is Christhood. Wherever you find
compassion, it is Buddhahood.
So everyone has to attain Buddhahood, the state of nirvana or liberation, by introspection and
by knowing what is real and what is not real (nithya, anithya). Nithya means ‗the eternal‘, while
anithya signifies ‗the ephemeral‘. We have to distinguish between these two, nithya and anithya,
with viveka, which is our sense of discrimination. Then we will have that experience of nirvana.
SWAMI IS ALWAYS WITH US!
Therefore, my friends, with these words, I have a few points to share with you at this hour. I‘m
highly conscious of the fact that I am talking to devotees of Bhagavan Sri Sathya Sai Baba. In
this gathering are also present leaders of the organisation, convenors, presidents, the ladies‘
wing, Balvikas gurus and active workers.
This assembly is a congregation of active workers of the Sri Sathya Organisation from ten
different countries. In this context, my sincere appeal to you is this: tell everybody that Swami is
always with us! He has not left anywhere! He‘s always with us. He will always continue to be
with us. Tell them this repeatedly.
First, be convinced of this. Experience this and declare it openly. You may ask, ―How to declare
it? How to tell it openly? How do I convince myself?‖ The answer is simple. Has Swami not
appeared in Indonesia? Has not Swami appeared in Malaysia? Has He not appeared in
Argentina? Many people saw Him at different places in physical form all over the world.
There are thousands of books that narrate experiences where people saw the physical
presence of Swami all over the world. Plus there are many people who have not been here, yet
are staunch devotees of Bhagavan Sri Sathya Sai Baba. Then, how do you say He is not with
us?
If anyone says, ―Swami has left me‖, you are committing a Himalayan blunder. He cannot leave
you—just as you cannot leave yourself! Can you leave yourself? No, impossible! You cannot
leave yourself because that existential reality is the Divinity of Bhagavan Sri Sathya Sai Baba.
So long as I am here, Swami is here. That ‗I‘, that individual soul, is He, the universal soul.
Therefore, tell everybody Swami is with us.
He insisted on telling us this repeatedly. ―I‘m with you, in you, above you, below you, around
you.‖ When I missed one, He would say, ―‗In you‘—add that one also.‖ You know that. So when
He‘s in you, above you, below you, around you, how can He leave you? Impossible!
TODAY’S GENERATION QUESTIONS EVERY STATEMENT
There will be questions that you will have from many people; we cannot escape them. I cannot
say, ―You‘re committing a sin‖ or ―You‘re going to be blind if you ask those questions.‖ Those
days are gone. If you speak like that, your grandchildren will say, ―Tata (Grandfather), it‘s time
that you keep to yourself. Be calm and composed, but don‘t talk to me.‖ Today children are very
highly intelligent; we cannot silence them.4
In our generation, we didn‘t dare to put any questions. The next generation could begin to ask
some questions. But today, they question every statement! You ask your child, ―Will you wear
this blue frock?‖
―Why?‖ They‘ll say immediately, ―Why? Why not this?‖ That‘s the sign of this age. We can‘t
blame them. The intelligence IQ has gone up. We even compliment them. Every child can work
on the computer, while I don‘t understand computers! I ask my grandson, ―Hey, teach me
something on computers.‖
He told me immediately, ―Tell me what to do. To teach you is impossible.‖ And further He said,
―It is boring to teach you also.‖
Then I told him, ―I have been teaching for 48 years, and I never felt boring. So I don‘t know why
you feel like this.‖
―Yes, tell me what you want and I‘ll do it, that‘s all.‖ Therefore, we cannot blame our children.
Now what are the questions you will get?
WHY DID SWAMI SUFFER FOR A LONG PERIOD?
One question is this: ―Why did Swami suffer for a long period? How is it that the vital organs
failed all of a sudden? Is it possible for them to collapse all at once? Or, is it as some suspect,
that it must have happened over a period of time, as all organs can‘t be damaged at one time?‖
So, ―Why has it happened?‖ is one question you will get. You cannot tell them to keep quiet.
That fellow will pity you. This is the answer, my friends.
Baba may have had a problem. He might have had a problem. The greatness of Baba, the
uniqueness of Baba, and the Divinity of Baba is that He never complained to anybody at any
time. That is clear in Baba‘s speeches. He never complained of anything.
I know some people who came close to Swami and asked, ―How are You?‖
―I am fine.‖
―Swami, how are You?‖
―I am very fine.‖
―Bhagavan, how are You really?‖
―If you ask again, I will send you out!‖ (Laughter)
He always tells you, ―I am fine, I am fine!‖5
But we know as we see Him that He is not as fine as He says. Because of so many problems
from the fractures that He had in the pelvic region, He‘s not that free from pain. But He always
says, ―I am fine.‖ Why?
Can you say you are fine with a headache? If you have a headache, do you say you are fine?
You will not say, ―Fine.‖ Not only that, you will be the cause of headaches for others in the family
also! Because of the headache you have, there should not be visitors; there should not be any
jokes; nobody should watch TV, and no pudding preparation or ice cream. The whole house is
under curfew because you have a headache. So your headache is a universal headache!
On the other hand, take Baba Bhagavan: with all the pain as we imagined, as we watched, He
never said, ―I have these problems.‖ Instead He always said, ―I‘m fine, I‘m fine.‖ It is a message
for all of us to think about, so we too can say to everyone, ―I am fine. I am fine.‖
These days we come across people like this: ―How are you?‖
―Chelta hai, dhuniya—pulling on, pulling on.‖
What is this ‗pulling on‘? Are you luggage or baggage? What is this? There are others who say,
―I am close to the end of life.‖ You need not disclose that. That is already decided; the date of
expiry is known to Him.
Therefore, let‘s not say, ―I‘m pulling on. I‘m carrying on.‖ Life is like that. Stop that nonsense!
The message of Baba is to say, ―I am fine, I am fine,‖ in spite of and irrespective of all the
problems that we think and assume we have. That‘s how I take it.
BHAGAVAN IS BEYOND THE BODY
Also the second message is this: many people may be saying that He must have had this
problem long ago, or He must have had this problem at least the last month. Okay, you may
maintain a diary of His problems, good. But what I say is this: He worked for His devotees till the
last drop of His blood. With all the damage going on in His body, His constant thoughts and
thinking were only of the devotees, their happiness, and their pleasure. That is Bhagavan Sri
Sathya Sai Baba. (Applause)
Jesus left His body on the cross. Jesus on the cross represents supreme sacrifice for the entire
humanity. Who could redeem our lives? Who could save us from all sins? That is the idea of our
Christian brethren. Jesus sacrificed His life for all of us.
Bhagavan sacrificed His time, energy, and whole body for His devotees because He has got
nobody else other than devotees. That is Bhagavan Sri Sathya Sai Baba. Therefore, why did He
suffer? For you and for me. Why He has sacrificed? For you and for me. Why did He have that
kind of pain? He didn‘t have any pain. Why? Because He is beyond the body. He‘s not the body.
He always said, ―You are not the body, you are not the body.‖ When you are not the body, how
can He be the body? This is all foolishness.
How do I say that? I say that on the basis of my personal experience. Bhagavan starts at 5:30 or
6 o‘clock in the morning, travelling from Bangalore to Kodaikanal. He reaches there around 6 6
o‘clock in the evening. It is a 12-hour continuous journey. Please believe me. He doesn‘t take a
spoonful of food. He doesn‘t take any coffee or tea. He doesn‘t wash His face or freshen up.
People say, ―Let me freshen up.‖ You need to freshen up every second, but there will be no
improvement!
Baba never says, ―Let me go and freshen up‖ because that freshness is Bhagavan Sri Sathya
Sai Baba. He need not freshen up. Believe me, He is as fresh at the end of the journey at 6
o‘clock in the evening in Kodaikanal as He was at 5:30 in the morning—very fresh, like a rose—
whereas we who follow Him have had breakfast, lunch, and a heavy loading up throughout the
trip. Yes! And in addition to that, tins and tins of sweets are there, tins and tins!
So this question was put to Swami: ―Bhagavan, we eat and eat and eat, but still we are weak.
You don‘t eat, but you are energetic. Why?‖ In places like Kodaikanal, Ooty, Shimla, and Delhi,
you have many, many wonderful opportunities to be close to Him and put such questions;
whereas in Puttaparthi, all you have to do is sit. If He looks at you, it‘s good. If He talks to you,
celebrate. If He gives you an interview, brag about it!
―Swami, why are You so energetic, though You have not partaken of any food?‖
Do you know what He said? ―You draw energy out of the food that you take. Food is the source
of energy for all of you. I don‘t need to take food because I am that energy. I am the energy.‖
That is Bhagavan Sri Sathya Sai Baba.
Therefore, my friends, He is energy, not the body. He is freshness, not the body. He‘s not
powerful—He is the power. One can be powerful by acquiring power, but He is the power itself
personified.
I can give you many examples like this, demonstrating that He‘s beyond the body. Therefore, if
anyone asks you, ―Why that long?‖ it is because He‘s not the body. I dare say this. You may
even question me. You may even disbelieve me, I don‘t mind. Based on my experience, I am
telling you: the body of Bhagavan Baba is so tender, so delicate, so soft—like a rose petal, like
the petal of a jasmine flower. It is so tender, so delicate, so soft, so beautiful, and very fair.
As you go close to Him to do some padaseva, you will know that. Any additional pressure to His
feet while doing any padaseva or massage will cause blisters on His feet because He can‘t bear
it. The skin is so soft and so delicate. It is highly sensitive.
Once the boys were doing padaseva, which means massaging His feet. Well, I wanted to do it.
He saw me and said, ―Come on, you do it.‖
When I was trying to do that, I was over enthusiastic. The next morning He said, ―Abha! Burning
all over my feet—see the blisters there. Abha! I cannot come down, come.‖
Then, I had no other option than to open the taps of both my eyes and to allow the water to flow.
I started crying. 7
Baba immediately said, ―Nothing wrong with you. You were talking some politics, and I was
enjoying. So I did not know what had happened and what you were doing. After you left, I
realised the pain,‖ He said. It is enough proof to say that He is not mindful of what is happening
to His body.
Now my question is this: my friends, with that soft and delicate, tender sensitive body, how could
He withstand all the pinches and all the needles put into His body? How could He bear that?
My answer is this: He allowed the body to remain there on the bed while He went on a spiritual
holiday, visiting all His devotees during that time. He cannot be the body, take it from me—
impossible! For His delicate nature, for a body that is so soft, it cannot withstand needles like
that. It cannot withstand that kind of treatment for such a prolonged period. He must have left
the body on the bed. Or He must have gone to Hollywood or Bollywood—we do not know. He
must have visited Malaysia or Indonesia and only then returned.
WHY SHOULD SWAMI STAY IN THE HOSPITAL THAT LONG?
Then people will ask another question: ―Why should He stay in the hospital that long? Why
twenty-seven days?‖
I‘m giving you these answers because you‘ll face these questions back home. You cannot avoid
them. Don‘t be a coward at any point because we have got enough information with us, by His
Divine grace.
He must have stayed there that long period for all of us to get prepared for the terminal event to
happen. If there was a sudden announcement, thousands would have had to follow. Thousands
would have lost their lives. So He gave time to prepare us.
Also He gave time for us, so that we would know when He had decided to go! It was not the
doctors and their treatment. He allowed Himself to be treated. ―It will happen when I decide. It
will happen: I withdraw when I want to. Why? I could come into the body when I wanted, so I will
go when I decide.‖
You may not believe me, but it is true. A couple of years ago, in front of the Ganesh statue there
on the dais, Baba said to me, ―Here is going to be Samadhi.‖ This was a couple of years ago.
Then I said, ―Swami, I‘m a timid fellow. I‘m not the right man to hear these things. Please don‘t
speak of that. I don‘t want to know.‖
Then He said, ―Hey, it is bound to happen someday or the other. Why are you afraid of it?‖
Then He added, ―Not now, still time.‖
He decided on that spot long ago, a couple of years ago. Not only that, but a few years ago,
while talking to students, this same question came up, of whether He would be in His body for
96 years.
―Swami, are You going to be here until 96?‖8
He said, ―If I want, I can be here more than that period. Why only 96? For any length of time I
want. If I decide, I will leave this body now!‖ He said this.
Then I softly, slowly, picked up courage and said, ―This is Kodaikanal, Swami. It‘s summer
vacation. All boys have come to have fun and frolic in Your company, not to hear these words.
They get frightened. This is time to enjoy being in Your company, and eat as much as we can.
But we cannot hear these words.‖
But Baba had said it then: ―I can withdraw anytime I decide.‖
Therefore, my friends, these are the answers you should be ready with—an answer for our own
selves. Be free from doubt; never doubt there is the living God, a loving God, amidst us. He will
continue to be with us forever and ever more. There‘s no doubt about it. His message will
continue to inspire everybody all over the world.
WHAT IS BABA’S MIRACLE?
What is Baba‘s miracle? The miracle of Baba is not the materialisation of objects alone. Baba‘s
miracle is that He could reach places like Argentina, Brazil, Mexico, and so many far-off places.
Tell me! Name the country! He‘s already there. One general appeal to all of you, my friends—be
sure of this Tell it emphatically, with all conviction! Tell everybody. What is it? He‘s the only
Jagat Guru—world teacher—the only one.
Without stepping out of Puttaparthi, without moving out of Prashanthi Nilayam, He brought the
whole world right to His presence. He‘s the only one. That is the proof of His miracle. He has not
stretched out His hand. He has not asked anybody to come. Simply He motivated everybody;
He inspired everyone from within. They started pouring out their love in the form of sacrifice and
participation in the Divine mission. Tell of these things. Share His message. And be firmly
established in your conviction.
Never go changing from guru to guru, because what is not here is nowhere else. Take it from
me, nowhere else. Impossible, impossible! After enjoying Bhagavan Baba, after experiencing
His infinite compassion, having been the recipient of a number of gifts, having had a number of
experiences, you don‘t need to go anywhere. What is it that you do not have?
Therefore, tell everybody—our Bhagavan is with us. Swami is in me. He‘ll continue to inspire
me. He‘ll continue to organise activities in our areas. I‘m sure that the next time devotees come
from Indonesia, Malaysia, Japan, Hong Kong, Thailand, and Taiwan, they will be double the
number. There‘s no doubt about it—double the number!
WHAT WILL HAPPEN TO PUTTAPARTHI AFTER BABA?
People are asking the question, ―What will happen to Puttaparthi after Baba?‖ First, the question
itself is a stupid question because there‘s no question about ‗after Baba‘ or ‗before Baba‘. Baba
is Baba: He‘s ever-existent, so there‘s no question of ‗after‘. Tell everyone openly this point. In
fact, all pilgrim centres have developed after the great souls left their body, not during their
lifetime.9
Bhagavan Sri Sathya Sai Baba made Prashanthi Nilayam a role model for the whole world.
There is only one place where people of all religions meet, where people of all age groups and
all professions meet—only one place! In His lifetime, He started education institutions and
hospitals, right in this place.
It is all ready; it is ready-made stuff now. You don‘t need to develop anything. It is enough if you
don‘t spoil it. It is enough if you don‘t bring a bad name to it. It is our responsibility to maintain
this Divine property, as trustees of this Divine property, given to us by Bhagavan Sri Sathya Sai
Baba.
Be watchful of the Divine presence in every moment of your life.
I happily remember my visit to Borobudur. I also remember my visit to Malaysia. I also
remember my visit to Sri Lanka—the Buddha tooth place, Kandy. I saw huge statues of
Bhagavan Buddha in Kobe, Japan.
In Hong Kong, there is a Buddha statue on the hilltop, reminding me of Lord Venkateshwara—
like Lord Venkateshwara on the seventh hilltop. There in Hong Kong, Venkateshwara sits there
as Lord Buddha on the mountaintop. When you go on the way to the mountaintop in Hong
Kong, it is surrounded by clouds. So it is very difficult to see Him unless you climb up the steps.
In a sitting posture, Bhagavan Buddha is welcoming everybody, as if the grandfather is waiting
for the return of the grandchild! You cannot stop crying, standing in front of Bhagavan Buddha‘s
statue.
I recall those places, all pilgrimage centres associated with Buddha, and that Buddha is
Bhagavan Baba. Bhagavan Baba is Buddha. There‘s no difference! The One of that time is now
Him in this time. He‘ll live forever and forever!

Dear Brothers and Sisters,
STORY OF THE GOLD PENS
This story happened soon after I joined Swami‘s institution, at an early stage of my life with
Swami. That early stage was the ‗honeymoon period‘—where we can have some liberty.
Thereafter comes a heavy training period, the challenging period. That is the spiritual life that
one has to go through while being with Swami.
In those days till these days, I saw Bhagavan did not care for anything. I will not mention the
name of the man involved in this story. Anyway, that man brought gold pens, and he wanted
Swami to receive and accept them.
The gentleman who brought these gold pens said to me, ―Please tell Swami that I have brought
gold pens.‖
At that time, I did not understand his logic. Innocently, I went to Swami and told Swami that soand-so brought gold pens.
Swami said, ―You take them. You take them.‖2
―Swami, he has not brought them for me. They are not meant for me.‖
―No, no. You are saying he has brought them, so you take.‖
―No, no Swami, they are meant for You. They have to be distributed to students.‖
Then Baba explained it in this way: ―He brought the pens so that I would grant him an interview,
and so that he can get a front row seat every day. Swami will never do business like that. If He
insists, I will ask him to get out of this gate. Let him not enter the ashram at all!‖
PRACTICE DETACHMENT IN THE MIDST OF ATTACHMENTS
He‘s Buddha! Bhagavan is Buddha because He‘s not attached to anybody or anything. This is
the experience of most of the people. When He goes around the devotees, sometimes some
people get interviews. They are blessed with interviews. There in the interview room, He talks in
such a way that the whole Avatar is there for you only. He gives you that impression. He goes
on praising you, your sadhana, your family, your life, your prospects, your wife, and what not.
Then you think you are so important.
The moment you come out of the interview, you go on telling people, ―You know what Swami
said?‖ Why should I know what He told you? But still we go on telling this and that!
The next day, or that evening itself, when Swami passes by your side, He won‘t even look at
you! ―There in the interview room, You gave me the impression that You and I are one. But
today, You are there and I am nobody here. (Laughter) Swami, don‘t you know me? Don‘t you
recognise me? What happened to that romance there in the interview room?‖ Detachment—this
is what He wants, that‘s all! Thereafter, it‘s nothing doing, no more attachment.
I‘m very much surprised. I have had a number of sweet conversations with Him at different
places like Kodaikanal, Ooty, Delhi, Simla, Bombay, Pune and other places. Immediately after
our return here, He moves in such a way as if we never knew each other (Laughter)—as if we
never met at anytime. But yesterday, we travelled together! So what‘s all this?
Hari Om, that‘s all. That is detachment. That is nirvana. That‘s how we have to practise
detachment in the midst of all attachments. That is the practice of detachment in the midst of
attachments. Even in the midst of family, there‘s a way to transcend and to go beyond.
EVERYONE HAS TO ATTAIN THAT BUDDHAHOOD
Therefore, my friends, nirvana or liberation is not an achievement. Nirvana is not an attainment.
It is not a thing to be declared, advertised, or telecast. You are born liberated; you lost liberation
in between! You got yourself bonded; you are entrapped in the cage of bondage. The attempt is
to get out, again enjoying the liberation in which you were initially born. Therefore, I am born
liberated, but I got trapped into bondage.
By sadhana, I experience once again that initial state of liberation or nirvana. Therefore my
friends, nirvana is our birthright. Nirvana is the natural state, while bondage is of our own
making. Bhagavan Buddha! What a kind of state it is. We have to understand Buddha is a state.
He‘s actually Siddhartha Gautama. But this is Buddhahood, Christhood, or Krishnahood—that is 3
the state. Wherever you feel that spirit of sacrifice, that is Christhood. Wherever you find
compassion, it is Buddhahood.
So everyone has to attain Buddhahood, the state of nirvana or liberation, by introspection and
by knowing what is real and what is not real (nithya, anithya). Nithya means ‗the eternal‘, while
anithya signifies ‗the ephemeral‘. We have to distinguish between these two, nithya and anithya,
with viveka, which is our sense of discrimination. Then we will have that experience of nirvana.
SWAMI IS ALWAYS WITH US!
Therefore, my friends, with these words, I have a few points to share with you at this hour. I‘m
highly conscious of the fact that I am talking to devotees of Bhagavan Sri Sathya Sai Baba. In
this gathering are also present leaders of the organisation, convenors, presidents, the ladies‘
wing, Balvikas gurus and active workers.
This assembly is a congregation of active workers of the Sri Sathya Organisation from ten
different countries. In this context, my sincere appeal to you is this: tell everybody that Swami is
always with us! He has not left anywhere! He‘s always with us. He will always continue to be
with us. Tell them this repeatedly.
First, be convinced of this. Experience this and declare it openly. You may ask, ―How to declare
it? How to tell it openly? How do I convince myself?‖ The answer is simple. Has Swami not
appeared in Indonesia? Has not Swami appeared in Malaysia? Has He not appeared in
Argentina? Many people saw Him at different places in physical form all over the world.
There are thousands of books that narrate experiences where people saw the physical
presence of Swami all over the world. Plus there are many people who have not been here, yet
are staunch devotees of Bhagavan Sri Sathya Sai Baba. Then, how do you say He is not with
us?
If anyone says, ―Swami has left me‖, you are committing a Himalayan blunder. He cannot leave
you—just as you cannot leave yourself! Can you leave yourself? No, impossible! You cannot
leave yourself because that existential reality is the Divinity of Bhagavan Sri Sathya Sai Baba.
So long as I am here, Swami is here. That ‗I‘, that individual soul, is He, the universal soul.
Therefore, tell everybody Swami is with us.
He insisted on telling us this repeatedly. ―I‘m with you, in you, above you, below you, around
you.‖ When I missed one, He would say, ―‗In you‘—add that one also.‖ You know that. So when
He‘s in you, above you, below you, around you, how can He leave you? Impossible!
TODAY’S GENERATION QUESTIONS EVERY STATEMENT
There will be questions that you will have from many people; we cannot escape them. I cannot
say, ―You‘re committing a sin‖ or ―You‘re going to be blind if you ask those questions.‖ Those
days are gone. If you speak like that, your grandchildren will say, ―Tata (Grandfather), it‘s time
that you keep to yourself. Be calm and composed, but don‘t talk to me.‖ Today children are very
highly intelligent; we cannot silence them.4
In our generation, we didn‘t dare to put any questions. The next generation could begin to ask
some questions. But today, they question every statement! You ask your child, ―Will you wear
this blue frock?‖
―Why?‖ They‘ll say immediately, ―Why? Why not this?‖ That‘s the sign of this age. We can‘t
blame them. The intelligence IQ has gone up. We even compliment them. Every child can work
on the computer, while I don‘t understand computers! I ask my grandson, ―Hey, teach me
something on computers.‖
He told me immediately, ―Tell me what to do. To teach you is impossible.‖ And further He said,
―It is boring to teach you also.‖
Then I told him, ―I have been teaching for 48 years, and I never felt boring. So I don‘t know why
you feel like this.‖
―Yes, tell me what you want and I‘ll do it, that‘s all.‖ Therefore, we cannot blame our children.
Now what are the questions you will get?
WHY DID SWAMI SUFFER FOR A LONG PERIOD?
One question is this: ―Why did Swami suffer for a long period? How is it that the vital organs
failed all of a sudden? Is it possible for them to collapse all at once? Or, is it as some suspect,
that it must have happened over a period of time, as all organs can‘t be damaged at one time?‖
So, ―Why has it happened?‖ is one question you will get. You cannot tell them to keep quiet.
That fellow will pity you. This is the answer, my friends.
Baba may have had a problem. He might have had a problem. The greatness of Baba, the
uniqueness of Baba, and the Divinity of Baba is that He never complained to anybody at any
time. That is clear in Baba‘s speeches. He never complained of anything.
I know some people who came close to Swami and asked, ―How are You?‖
―I am fine.‖
―Swami, how are You?‖
―I am very fine.‖
―Bhagavan, how are You really?‖
―If you ask again, I will send you out!‖ (Laughter)
He always tells you, ―I am fine, I am fine!‖5
But we know as we see Him that He is not as fine as He says. Because of so many problems
from the fractures that He had in the pelvic region, He‘s not that free from pain. But He always
says, ―I am fine.‖ Why?
Can you say you are fine with a headache? If you have a headache, do you say you are fine?
You will not say, ―Fine.‖ Not only that, you will be the cause of headaches for others in the family
also! Because of the headache you have, there should not be visitors; there should not be any
jokes; nobody should watch TV, and no pudding preparation or ice cream. The whole house is
under curfew because you have a headache. So your headache is a universal headache!
On the other hand, take Baba Bhagavan: with all the pain as we imagined, as we watched, He
never said, ―I have these problems.‖ Instead He always said, ―I‘m fine, I‘m fine.‖ It is a message
for all of us to think about, so we too can say to everyone, ―I am fine. I am fine.‖
These days we come across people like this: ―How are you?‖
―Chelta hai, dhuniya—pulling on, pulling on.‖
What is this ‗pulling on‘? Are you luggage or baggage? What is this? There are others who say,
―I am close to the end of life.‖ You need not disclose that. That is already decided; the date of
expiry is known to Him.
Therefore, let‘s not say, ―I‘m pulling on. I‘m carrying on.‖ Life is like that. Stop that nonsense!
The message of Baba is to say, ―I am fine, I am fine,‖ in spite of and irrespective of all the
problems that we think and assume we have. That‘s how I take it.
BHAGAVAN IS BEYOND THE BODY
Also the second message is this: many people may be saying that He must have had this
problem long ago, or He must have had this problem at least the last month. Okay, you may
maintain a diary of His problems, good. But what I say is this: He worked for His devotees till the
last drop of His blood. With all the damage going on in His body, His constant thoughts and
thinking were only of the devotees, their happiness, and their pleasure. That is Bhagavan Sri
Sathya Sai Baba. (Applause)
Jesus left His body on the cross. Jesus on the cross represents supreme sacrifice for the entire
humanity. Who could redeem our lives? Who could save us from all sins? That is the idea of our
Christian brethren. Jesus sacrificed His life for all of us.
Bhagavan sacrificed His time, energy, and whole body for His devotees because He has got
nobody else other than devotees. That is Bhagavan Sri Sathya Sai Baba. Therefore, why did He
suffer? For you and for me. Why He has sacrificed? For you and for me. Why did He have that
kind of pain? He didn‘t have any pain. Why? Because He is beyond the body. He‘s not the body.
He always said, ―You are not the body, you are not the body.‖ When you are not the body, how
can He be the body? This is all foolishness.
How do I say that? I say that on the basis of my personal experience. Bhagavan starts at 5:30 or
6 o‘clock in the morning, travelling from Bangalore to Kodaikanal. He reaches there around 6 6
o‘clock in the evening. It is a 12-hour continuous journey. Please believe me. He doesn‘t take a
spoonful of food. He doesn‘t take any coffee or tea. He doesn‘t wash His face or freshen up.
People say, ―Let me freshen up.‖ You need to freshen up every second, but there will be no
improvement!
Baba never says, ―Let me go and freshen up‖ because that freshness is Bhagavan Sri Sathya
Sai Baba. He need not freshen up. Believe me, He is as fresh at the end of the journey at 6
o‘clock in the evening in Kodaikanal as He was at 5:30 in the morning—very fresh, like a rose—
whereas we who follow Him have had breakfast, lunch, and a heavy loading up throughout the
trip. Yes! And in addition to that, tins and tins of sweets are there, tins and tins!
So this question was put to Swami: ―Bhagavan, we eat and eat and eat, but still we are weak.
You don‘t eat, but you are energetic. Why?‖ In places like Kodaikanal, Ooty, Shimla, and Delhi,
you have many, many wonderful opportunities to be close to Him and put such questions;
whereas in Puttaparthi, all you have to do is sit. If He looks at you, it‘s good. If He talks to you,
celebrate. If He gives you an interview, brag about it!
―Swami, why are You so energetic, though You have not partaken of any food?‖
Do you know what He said? ―You draw energy out of the food that you take. Food is the source
of energy for all of you. I don‘t need to take food because I am that energy. I am the energy.‖
That is Bhagavan Sri Sathya Sai Baba.
Therefore, my friends, He is energy, not the body. He is freshness, not the body. He‘s not
powerful—He is the power. One can be powerful by acquiring power, but He is the power itself
personified.
I can give you many examples like this, demonstrating that He‘s beyond the body. Therefore, if
anyone asks you, ―Why that long?‖ it is because He‘s not the body. I dare say this. You may
even question me. You may even disbelieve me, I don‘t mind. Based on my experience, I am
telling you: the body of Bhagavan Baba is so tender, so delicate, so soft—like a rose petal, like
the petal of a jasmine flower. It is so tender, so delicate, so soft, so beautiful, and very fair.
As you go close to Him to do some padaseva, you will know that. Any additional pressure to His
feet while doing any padaseva or massage will cause blisters on His feet because He can‘t bear
it. The skin is so soft and so delicate. It is highly sensitive.
Once the boys were doing padaseva, which means massaging His feet. Well, I wanted to do it.
He saw me and said, ―Come on, you do it.‖
When I was trying to do that, I was over enthusiastic. The next morning He said, ―Abha! Burning
all over my feet—see the blisters there. Abha! I cannot come down, come.‖
Then, I had no other option than to open the taps of both my eyes and to allow the water to flow.
I started crying. 7
Baba immediately said, ―Nothing wrong with you. You were talking some politics, and I was
enjoying. So I did not know what had happened and what you were doing. After you left, I
realised the pain,‖ He said. It is enough proof to say that He is not mindful of what is happening
to His body.
Now my question is this: my friends, with that soft and delicate, tender sensitive body, how could
He withstand all the pinches and all the needles put into His body? How could He bear that?
My answer is this: He allowed the body to remain there on the bed while He went on a spiritual
holiday, visiting all His devotees during that time. He cannot be the body, take it from me—
impossible! For His delicate nature, for a body that is so soft, it cannot withstand needles like
that. It cannot withstand that kind of treatment for such a prolonged period. He must have left
the body on the bed. Or He must have gone to Hollywood or Bollywood—we do not know. He
must have visited Malaysia or Indonesia and only then returned.
WHY SHOULD SWAMI STAY IN THE HOSPITAL THAT LONG?
Then people will ask another question: ―Why should He stay in the hospital that long? Why
twenty-seven days?‖
I‘m giving you these answers because you‘ll face these questions back home. You cannot avoid
them. Don‘t be a coward at any point because we have got enough information with us, by His
Divine grace.
He must have stayed there that long period for all of us to get prepared for the terminal event to
happen. If there was a sudden announcement, thousands would have had to follow. Thousands
would have lost their lives. So He gave time to prepare us.
Also He gave time for us, so that we would know when He had decided to go! It was not the
doctors and their treatment. He allowed Himself to be treated. ―It will happen when I decide. It
will happen: I withdraw when I want to. Why? I could come into the body when I wanted, so I will
go when I decide.‖
You may not believe me, but it is true. A couple of years ago, in front of the Ganesh statue there
on the dais, Baba said to me, ―Here is going to be Samadhi.‖ This was a couple of years ago.
Then I said, ―Swami, I‘m a timid fellow. I‘m not the right man to hear these things. Please don‘t
speak of that. I don‘t want to know.‖
Then He said, ―Hey, it is bound to happen someday or the other. Why are you afraid of it?‖
Then He added, ―Not now, still time.‖
He decided on that spot long ago, a couple of years ago. Not only that, but a few years ago,
while talking to students, this same question came up, of whether He would be in His body for
96 years.
―Swami, are You going to be here until 96?‖8
He said, ―If I want, I can be here more than that period. Why only 96? For any length of time I
want. If I decide, I will leave this body now!‖ He said this.
Then I softly, slowly, picked up courage and said, ―This is Kodaikanal, Swami. It‘s summer
vacation. All boys have come to have fun and frolic in Your company, not to hear these words.
They get frightened. This is time to enjoy being in Your company, and eat as much as we can.
But we cannot hear these words.‖
But Baba had said it then: ―I can withdraw anytime I decide.‖
Therefore, my friends, these are the answers you should be ready with—an answer for our own
selves. Be free from doubt; never doubt there is the living God, a loving God, amidst us. He will
continue to be with us forever and ever more. There‘s no doubt about it. His message will
continue to inspire everybody all over the world.
WHAT IS BABA’S MIRACLE?
What is Baba‘s miracle? The miracle of Baba is not the materialisation of objects alone. Baba‘s
miracle is that He could reach places like Argentina, Brazil, Mexico, and so many far-off places.
Tell me! Name the country! He‘s already there. One general appeal to all of you, my friends—be
sure of this Tell it emphatically, with all conviction! Tell everybody. What is it? He‘s the only
Jagat Guru—world teacher—the only one.
Without stepping out of Puttaparthi, without moving out of Prashanthi Nilayam, He brought the
whole world right to His presence. He‘s the only one. That is the proof of His miracle. He has not
stretched out His hand. He has not asked anybody to come. Simply He motivated everybody;
He inspired everyone from within. They started pouring out their love in the form of sacrifice and
participation in the Divine mission. Tell of these things. Share His message. And be firmly
established in your conviction.
Never go changing from guru to guru, because what is not here is nowhere else. Take it from
me, nowhere else. Impossible, impossible! After enjoying Bhagavan Baba, after experiencing
His infinite compassion, having been the recipient of a number of gifts, having had a number of
experiences, you don‘t need to go anywhere. What is it that you do not have?
Therefore, tell everybody—our Bhagavan is with us. Swami is in me. He‘ll continue to inspire
me. He‘ll continue to organise activities in our areas. I‘m sure that the next time devotees come
from Indonesia, Malaysia, Japan, Hong Kong, Thailand, and Taiwan, they will be double the
number. There‘s no doubt about it—double the number!
WHAT WILL HAPPEN TO PUTTAPARTHI AFTER BABA?
People are asking the question, ―What will happen to Puttaparthi after Baba?‖ First, the question
itself is a stupid question because there‘s no question about ‗after Baba‘ or ‗before Baba‘. Baba
is Baba: He‘s ever-existent, so there‘s no question of ‗after‘. Tell everyone openly this point. In
fact, all pilgrim centres have developed after the great souls left their body, not during their
lifetime.9
Bhagavan Sri Sathya Sai Baba made Prashanthi Nilayam a role model for the whole world.
There is only one place where people of all religions meet, where people of all age groups and
all professions meet—only one place! In His lifetime, He started education institutions and
hospitals, right in this place.
It is all ready; it is ready-made stuff now. You don‘t need to develop anything. It is enough if you
don‘t spoil it. It is enough if you don‘t bring a bad name to it. It is our responsibility to maintain
this Divine property, as trustees of this Divine property, given to us by Bhagavan Sri Sathya Sai
Baba.
Be watchful of the Divine presence in every moment of your life.
I happily remember my visit to Borobudur. I also remember my visit to Malaysia. I also
remember my visit to Sri Lanka—the Buddha tooth place, Kandy. I saw huge statues of
Bhagavan Buddha in Kobe, Japan.
In Hong Kong, there is a Buddha statue on the hilltop, reminding me of Lord Venkateshwara—
like Lord Venkateshwara on the seventh hilltop. There in Hong Kong, Venkateshwara sits there
as Lord Buddha on the mountaintop. When you go on the way to the mountaintop in Hong
Kong, it is surrounded by clouds. So it is very difficult to see Him unless you climb up the steps.
In a sitting posture, Bhagavan Buddha is welcoming everybody, as if the grandfather is waiting
for the return of the grandchild! You cannot stop crying, standing in front of Bhagavan Buddha‘s
statue.
I recall those places, all pilgrimage centres associated with Buddha, and that Buddha is
Bhagavan Baba. Bhagavan Baba is Buddha. There‘s no difference! The One of that time is now
Him in this time. He‘ll live forever and forever!
