Atithi Devo Bhava.
Fue en Ottawa, cuando los anfitriones llegaron a servir a Swami, que Él comentó: "En la cultura india el invitado es considerado como Dios y las escrituras dicen 'Atithi Devo Bhava'. Era ideal que todos vivían cerca."
A continuación, pasó a explicar: "En aquellos días en que la gente emprendia peregrinaciones, tendrían que caminar largas distancias, ya que los medios de transporte eran muy pocos. Durante esos largos viajes a pie, no era posible, para ellos, llevar todo lo que necesitaban para el viaje, ni había moteles u hoteles como hoy, donde pudieran descansar brevemente. Por lo tanto, este ideal se le dio a la gente, que cada huésped debía ser recibido como Dios. Debido a esta gran cultura, uno sin miedo podía emprender un viaje, al estar seguros de encontrar refugios y alimentos en los hogares de la gente de los pueblos y ciudades que estaban en su camino. A pesar de que eran extranjeros, debido a este ideal de ser considerados igual a Dios', la gente estaría encantada de acogerlos, considerando un honor servir a Dios, sirviendo a los huéspedes. Esa es la cultura de la India, que considera a todos como uno mismo ".
"Hoy son tan afortunados, ya que no se trata sólo de 'Atithi Devo Bhava' (El invitado es Dios) sino que es 'Devo Atithi Bhava'"(Dios es el invitado), añadió con una sonrisa.

Atithi Devo Bhava
It was in Ottawa, when the hosts came to serve Swami that He remarked, "In Indian culture the guest is considered as God and the scriptures say ' Atithi Devo Bhava'. It was a great ideal that everyone lived by."
He then went on to explain, "In those days when people would undertake pilgrimages, they would have to walk long distances as the transportation facilities were far and few. During those long journeys on foot, it wasn't possible for them to carry all that they needed for the entire journey, nor were there any motels or hotels like today, where they could briefly rest. Therefore this ideal was given to the people that every guest must be treated as God. Due to this great culture, one could fearlessly undertake a journey as one would be sure to find shelter and food in homes of the people of villages and towns that were on their way. Even though they were strangers, due to this ideal of 'Guest being equal to God', people would be glad to host them and consider it as an honour to serve God by serving guests. That was the culture of India that considered everyone as one's very own."
"Today you are so fortunate as it's not merely about 'Atithi Devo Bhava' (Guest is God) but it is 'Devo Atithi Bhava' (God is Guest)", He added with a smile.
