Every little moment or incident results in sound; be it the falling of an eyelid over the eye or the dropping of dew on a petal. The range of one’s ear is limited to what one can hear. Even a poisonous cobra can be quietened by music. Sound (Naadham) has that property. The child in the cradle stops wailing as soon as the lullaby is sung. It may not carry any meaning that the child interprets, but the sound does soothe the nerves and induce sleep. So too, the sound of a Manthra is as valuable as its meaning. The meaning of the Gayathri Manthra, is very direct and profound. It does not ask for mercy or pardon. It asks for a clear intellect, so that the Truth may be reflected therein correctly, without any disfigurement. This can be chanted by people of all times and will help aspirants to intensify their Sadhana and achieve success.

Story behind this photo: KOLAM.

In this photo you can see, Mrs. M.S. Subbalakshmi, an ardent devotee of Bhagavan Baba, designing a Kolam in front of their home.
What is this kolam?? This is a familiar sight in front of any house in the southern parts of India. Various designs are drawn up daily on the floor early morning, using primarily the fine rice-flours (Rice pulverized in very fine grade). The kolams will be of many geometrical designs, connecting up innumerable tiny dots, or circling them.

During one of the intimate talks, Swami had mentioned about ‘kolams’. In old days, people used to wake up in the morning and it was their habit to feed various insects, birds and animals, before they themselves had any food. Swami used to mention about “ASHTA PUSHPAM” (Eight types of flowers) as offering to God. Not the ones, which we pluck from the trees and plants and which fade away the next day. Ashta Pushpam, comprises of eight divine qualities, which we should offer to Lord. One particular Pushpam, which Swami mentions, is “Sarva Bhootha Daya Pushpam”. (Daya or compassion towards all living creatures). The best way to show compassion is to feed them sumptuously. Those days, people, as they woke up in the morning, used to throw handful of rice or rice flours in front of their homes so that tiny ants and other insects could eat them. Gradually the rice flour was carefully placed in front of the houses, and this practice slowly developed into certain designs. These designs are known as kolams. Kolams also indicate, mark of auspiciousness in a family. In case of any death in a family, this kolam is not displayed for one full year thereafter. So if we find kolams in front of any house, we can assume that all is well in that family.

With Love & Regards, Mumbai Srinivasan

Visita de Swami al Templo Sri. Sri Mallikarjunaswamy, en Sailam, 05.01.1963_Swami's visit to Sri.Mallikarjunaswamy temple, Sri Sailam, 05.01.1963

Swami's visit to Sri.Mallikarjunaswamy temple.., Sri Sailam, 05.01.1963

Attached are three Pictures of Swami in the Sanctum Sanctorum of the Sri Mallikarjunaswamy temple in Sri Sailam, Andhra Pradesh which is one of the Jyotirlingams, Swami visited the temple on 5th January 1963...

Shri.N.Kasturi writes about the Divine visit in " Sathyam..Shivam..Sundaram..

" At Srisailam which He visited on the 5th of January 1963, He said. "This shrine has consoled and comforted thousands and thousands of pious persons year after year, for centuries. Sankaracharya was here and he sang of the holiness of this place and the calm he enjoyed here. He has installed a Chakra here, which I may tell you, is in a small cave by the side of Pathala Ganga". He added, "The atmosphere of Holy Places should improve. The nature of the monks who are the custodians of these places requires drastic correction. This will be done by Me, as part of Dharmasthapana, the task which I have come to fulfill".

Srisailam is a shrine saturated over the centuries with the deep devotion of mystics like Akka-mahadevi and nation-builders like Sivaji. Baba revealed the inner significance of the Names, by which the Lord and His Consort are worshipped at Srisailam: Mallikarjuna and Bhramaramba. This too was something new, a gift from Baba to generations of votaries. Arjuna means white, pure, without blemish; mallika means the spotlessly white jasmine flower. So, Mallikarjuna is Siva of the snowy peak Kailasa; pure, cool, resplendent with the sacred ash spread all over. He is the fragrant flower that draws the Amba or Consort, the Sakthi aspect, called Bhramara (the Bee which is attracted spontaneously by the Honey of Grace). She is the true representative of the tarden devotee and Mallikarjuna is the purest conception of the Grace-showering God, who yields to sincere entreaty.

While inside the innermost shrine, Baba showered on the Mallikarjuna, golden thumme (Leucas Linifolia) flowers which He created on the spot by a wave of His Hand. That was the ceremonial rite of multiplying the potency and improving the sanctity of the focus of worship.

Ugadi

Ugadi is the New Year's Day for the people of Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Maharashtra. While this festival is known as Ugadi in Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka, the same is celebrated as Gudi Padwa in Maharashtra. It falls generally in the month of March.

According to the Hindu Calendar, Ugadi is celebrated on the first day of the bright fortnight ('Shukla Paksha') of the first month ('Chaitra') in the first season of the year i.e., spring ('Vasanta'). This day is celebrated as the New Year Day in the states of Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Maharashtra. While it is called Ugadi or Yugadi in Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka, it is celebrated as Gudi Padva in Maharashtra. The word ‘Ugadi’ is derived from the Sanskrit word ‘Yugadi’, which means ‘beginning of a new Yuga or era’. Legend has it that this was the day on which Lord Krishna shed His body, signalling the end of the Dwapara Yuga and the commencement of the Kali Yuga. It is also believed that Brahma created the universe on this day.

Everyone has inside them a whole set of animals. You must suppress the tendencies of these animals and encourage the human qualities of love and friendship to shine forth. Begin the cultivation of virtues even when young, it is very important and more beneficial than book-learning. Treat everyone as your own people and even if you cannot do them any good, desist from causing any injury. Burn the lamp of love in the niche of your heart and the nocturnal birds of greed and envy will fly away, unable to bear the light. Love makes you humble, it makes you bend and bow when you see greatness and glory.
