En un satsang que tuvo lugar en la presencia divina en Roma, Italia, el 23 de abril de 2017, un devoto solicita orientación sobre el trasplante de órganos.

Y esto es lo que dijo Swami:

Pregunta: Me gustaría hacer una pregunta acerca de los trasplantes de órganos. Steiner y otros enseñan que el trasplante de un órgano resulta en graves consecuencias para el donante. La razón es que estos órganos son donados antes de que la persona este completamente muerta, antes del final de los tres días que permitirían que el alma salga del cuerpo. Swami, ¿cuál es su opinión sobre este asunto?

Swami: Las escrituras dicen, 'Paropakarartham idam shareeram', es decir, el cuerpo se le ha dado para servir. Mientras uno está vivo, es posible utilizar las facultades del cuerpo y la mente, pero una vez que está muerto, el cuerpo no es funcional, por lo que es difícil que sirva. Sin embargo, si alguien lleva el profundo deseo de servir en cualquier forma posible, no hay nada malo con el trasplante de órganos, siempre quede algún servicio a alguien, y se realice sin ningún tipo de coacción, fuerza o codicia. ¿Hay que donar sangre cuando los demás lo necesitan? La sangre es una parte de su cuerpo, una parte de sí mismo. Sin embargo, se debe hacer por un sentido de sacrificio, no por codicia o comercio. Por lo tanto, para quien lo hace con un gran sentido de desapego y sacrificio, no se producirá karma, y ninguna interacción del karma va a ocurrir entre el donante y el receptor. Si se hace por la fuerza, coacción o cualquier tipo de expectativa, entonces el karma también resultará en consecuencia.

La naturaleza nos muestra los mejores ejemplos. En la India y en otras partes, hay un tipo de banano conocido como plátano. Cada año, la planta crece y cada año, la planta muere. Cada parte de la planta de plátano es útil; las frutas, hojas e incluso los tallos se pueden utilizar como alimento. La planta no piensa así. Da a cada parte de sí misma, para hacer servicio.

Por lo tanto, si se hace con un sentimiento de servicio y sacrificio, sin ningún apego y expectativa, no hay nada malo.

Es un gran ejemplo servir incluso si usted ya no está allí, después de haber dejado el cuerpo. Después de todo, usted está fuera del cuerpo hasta el próximo nacimiento. Que sea de utilidad para alguien más, si se puede.

Question: I would like to ask a question about organ transplants. Steiner and others teach that transplanting an organ results in severe consequences for the donor. The reason is that these organs are donated before the person is completely dead, before the end of the three days which would allow for the soul to exit the body. Swami, what is Your opinion on this matter?

Swami: The scriptures say, ‘Paropakarartham idam shareeram’, that is, the body has been given to serve. As long as one is alive, it is possible to use the faculties of the body and the mind, but once it is dead, the body is not functional, so it is difficult to serve. Still, if somebody carries the deep desire to serve in whatever way possible, there is nothing wrong with organ transplantation, as long as it is of some service to someone, and it is done without any compulsion, force or greed. Do you not donate blood when others need it? Blood is a part of your body, part of yourself. However, it should be done out of a sense of sacrifice, not greed or commerce. Therefore, for one who does it with a great sense of detachment and sacrifice, no karma will ensue and no interaction of karma will happen between the donor and the receiver. If it is done with force, compulsion or any kind of expectation, then the karma will also result accordingly.

Nature shows the best examples. In India and elsewhere, there is a type of banana known as the plantain. Every year, the plant grows and every year, the plant dies. Every part of the plantain plant is useful; the fruits, leaves and even the stems can be used as food. The plant does not think like that. It gives every part of itself to be of service.

Therefore, if it is done with a feeling of service and sacrifice, without any attachment and expectation, there is nothing wrong.

It is a great example of serving even if you are not there, after you have left the body. After all, you are without the body until the next birth. Let it be of use to someone else, if it can.
