La sorprendente experiencia en Krishna Janmashtami...
En una colección de relatos cortos, de los más grandes escritores del mundo, me encontré con una historia de Leo Tolstoy con el título, " Dios ve la verdad, sin embargo espera ... ". Fue una lectura muy poderosa y me mostró cómo Dios permite que aparentemente "malas" cosas sucedan, para que en última instancia, reciban los máximos beneficios individuales. La historia muestra la diferencia entre el amor mundano y el amor divino.
El amor mundano sólo se preocupa por los placeres del cuerpo y la mente. El amor divino está dispuesto a sacrificar el cuerpo y la mente en el altar del alma! .
La historia es un recordatorio de que todo lo que sucede en la vida, siempre es bueno para nosotros. Y ese es el verdadero significado de entrega, tal como Swami ha revelado tan bien a un estudiante.
Viene a mi mente lo que dice Swami, "Lo que conocemos en la vida es el destino, cómo te encuentras es el esfuerzo propio."
También me trae a la mente un episodio y un evento que me aseguró que Swami todo lo sabe. Él lo ve todo. Él lo sabe todo. Y, sin embargo, Él espera ...
Deja que te lleve de vuelta al año 2004. Yo estaba estudiando mi segundo año después del Posgrado en Química en el Instituto de Swami. Era la época dorada de mi época de estudiante, cuando Swami tomó mucho interés en los programas estudiantiles. Nos animó a poner en marcha programas (obras de teatro, etc.) en su presencia divina. De hecho, en una ocasión, cuando el alcaide pidió a Swami venir y sentarse al aire libre entre la sesión de darshan y bhajans, Swami dijo, "¿Por qué habría de hacerlo? No hay ningún programa hoy! " . No teníamos ni idea entonces de que este tipo de "programación" se convertiría después, en el precursor de una gran cantidad de programas por parte del Estado y diferentes organizaciones internacionales Sathya Sai.
Sin embargo, nos sentimos felices de ser parte del plan de Swami. De hecho, al ver tantos programas que exigian ha los estudiantes, las personas mayores de la organización pensaron ofrecer algo de"alivio", al aprobar una resolución en la que los diferentes grupos que visitaran Prashanti también debían tener un programa cultural preparado para su presentación. Hoy, cuando miro hacia atrás, a esos días, me da piel de gallina, al darme cuenta de cómo Swami estaba preparando la posibilidad para que los devotos de todo el mundo , presentaran sus canciones, obras de teatro y otros programas en su presencia.

El "dilema del programador '...
Volviendo a la historia, el 01 de septiembre de 2004, tuve una idea, que había que poner en marcha un programa en la presencia de Swami, para el 06 de septiembre día de Krishna Janmashtami . Éramos la clase de mayor rango en el albergue y nos habían dado el privilegio de proponer un programa a corto plazo. Sin embargo, a la idea no se le dio una recepción entusiasta en la clase. Aunque hubo unos pocos que apoyaron la idea y estaban entusiasmados como yo, la mayoría de los "individuos necesarios" no se interesaron en la idea. Sus razones fueron:
1. Habíamos puesto en escena ya, tres programas en el último mes y había una especie de 'saturación'! .
2. El hecho de que Swami nos daba posibilidades, no significa que debamos poner en marcha programas con tanta prisa.
3. Las pruebas mensuales estaban a la vuelta de la esquina y todos tenían que ponerse a estudiar.
Pude ver significado en el razonamiento, pero de alguna manera, mi razonamiento no tenía sentido para ellos.
Mi razonamiento fue:
1. Swami está dando oportunidades y debemos agarrarlas con ambas manos.
2. Si cuidamos nuestras intenciones y oraciones, Swami se hará cargo del programa.
Sin embargo, había unos 4 o 5 en la clase que estaban de acuerdo con mi idea y decidimos que íbamos a seguir adelante con el programa. Decidimos que el formato sería de dos compinches que ofrecen el programa con un par de canciones y bailes intercalados entre ellos. Puesto que eramos seis, nos dividimos en 2 equipos. Hemos pedido a los estudiantes de la escuela secundaria superior que prepararan un par de bailes. Pedimos al grupo de bhajans que prepararan algunas canciones.
Hay una razón por la que estoy narrando todos estos detalles y pido la indulgencia del lector por un tiempo más. Los seis nos reunimos para decidir cuál debía ser el tema del programa y fue por inspiración unánime que debíamos revivir la historia del señor Krishna con una perspectiva diferente. Por ejemplo, estaba el episodio de las cadenas de Vasudeva retiradas cuando el bebé Krishna nació. Las puertas de la cárcel se abrieron y el padre tuvo la oportunidad de llevar al niño a salvo a Gokul, lejos de la ira del demonio Kamsa. A su regreso a la prisión las puertas fueron cerradas de nuevo y ató sus grilletes. Interpretamos esto como una vez que uno se aferra a " Dios, usted es liberado "y cuando usted dejó a 'Dios, está" atado y encadenado. "
El programa entero fue una interpretación creativa de esta manera. Teníamos que asegurar la calidad del programa con nuestro contenido actoral ya que no teníamos nada en la "presentación", puesta en escena, etc., solo nuestros artistas. De hecho, recuerdo que llame a uno de mis amigos, Raju, por el teléfono intercomunicador de mi habitación y derramando lágrimas, le dije "¿Por qué no estamos recibiendo ningún apoyo para este programa?.
Swami definitivamente ve lo que los "anti-programadores están sintiendo. Pero, ¿no ven cuáles son nuestras intenciones y sentimientos ? .
" Raju me tranquilizó, "No te preocupes. Nuestros motivos y sentimientos son puros.
Swami nos apoyara. Vamos a leer todos los discursos de Swami en Krishnashtami y vamos a conseguir más ideas sobre el contenido. " Nos acercamos al director y le dije que íbamos a estar preparados con un programa para Krishnashtami. Él estaba feliz (y no estaba al tanto de todos los problemas internos), y él mismo contó una experiencia maravillosa. Cuando era estudiante, Swami había visitado el albergue en un día Krishna Janmashtami. Él sólo hablaba sobre el avatar de Krishna. Mientras narraba cómo el Señor Krishna iría con sus amigos pastorcillos, los gopalas, para llevar las vacas ha pastorear, Swami dijo, "Krishna se ataba un trapo en la cabeza cuando estaba con las vacas". Swami entonces pidió un trozo de tela. El alcaide, un estudiante de entonces, corrió a su habitación y cogió su toalla. Swami se la quitó y para gran alegría y asombro de todos los alumnos allí presentes, la ató alrededor de su cabeza, a la forma de Krishna ! Ah!. Eso era puro placer y Swami también estaba radiante con una sonrisa. Escuchar el relato del alcaide nos hizo sentir mejor y nos dormimos bien esa noche.

Ayuda divina ...
Al día siguiente, nos dirigimos a la biblioteca, pero no para estudiar, sino para investigar todos los discursos de Swami de Krishnashtami. Elegí al azar un volumen de Sathya Sai Speaks y busque el discurso de Krishnashtami. Inmediatamente, se me puso la piel de gallina. El discurso tenía fecha 06 de septiembre 1977, el mismo día cuando se festejaba Krishnashtami en este año 2004 también. (El día exacto de Krishnashtami varía de año en año, ya que se decide de acuerdo con el calendario lunar.)
La piel de gallina sólo creció en tamaño cuando leí el contenido de ese discurso . Swami había hablado acerca de la importancia del avatar Krishna y había dado la misma interpretación exacta de las cadenas que caen como habíamos pensado en el día anterior! Hemos devorado con avidez ese discurso y reunió más contenidos. A pesar de la afirmación de que queríamos navegar a través de sus discursos, que Raju se hubiese ofrecido era tranquilizador, y me parecía formar parte de su plan director.
Imagínese la emoción que sentimos cuando descubrimos también el hecho de que fue durante ese mismo discurso en el albergue Brindavan que Swami había atado una toalla en la cabeza! Estábamos seguros de que esta era la forma que Swami nos decía que Él nos respaldaba.
Los seis nos preparamos con gran entusiasmo y alegría. Pero la cuestión siguió - ¿cómo íbamos a hacer una buena presentación o el programa, con tan sólo seis altavoces. Tenía que haber buenos bailes, canciones, parodias y otras representaciones, para un programa completo. Entregamos la preocupación por completo a Swami, quien, estábamos seguros, por ahora, velaba por nosotros. El siguiente par de días nos prepararnos con toda minuciosidad, pero al final de todo, el único programa que teníamos preparado eran 6 excelentes intervenciones basadas en lo que Swami había dicho. También se llegó a saber que Swami estaría entregando su discurso divino en la mañana Krishnashtami, es decir, el 06 de septiembre 2004 por la mañana. De repente, nuestro programa parecía no tener ningún sentido en absoluto! Si Bhagavan entregaría su discurso, es natural que significaba que no habría ningún otro programa por la mañana. Fuimos al alcaide por su opinión. Él nos dijo que estemos preparados y vestidos con nuestros trajes coloridos de todos modos. Dijo que la voluntad de Swami prevalecería y eso era algo que ya sabíamos! Y así, en la madrugada del 6 de septiembre, estaba vestido con una Kurta con oro y cromo . Los demás también llevaban sus vestidos magníficos. Y con una oración en los labios, nos dirigimos al mandir.
¿Qué pasó esa mañana, simplemente nos dejó sin aliento y me di cuenta de cómo Dios siempre ve la verdad, aunque Espera!

The amazing Krishna Janmashtami Experience...
In a collection of short stories by the greatest writers in the world, I came across a story by Leo Tolstoy with the title, “God sees the Truth but waits...”. It was a very powerful read and it showed how God allows seemingly ‘bad’ things to happen so that ultimately, the individual benefits the maximum. The story depicted the difference between worldly love and divine love.
Worldly love cares only about the joys of the body and the mind. Divine love is ready to sacrifice the body and the mind at the altar of the soul!
The story is a reminder that whatever happens in life is always good for us. And that is the true meaning of surrender as Swami revealed so beautifully to a student. It brings to my mind Swami’s saying, “What you meet in life is destiny, how you meet it is self effort.” It also brings to my mind an episode and an event that reassured me about Swami’s all-knowing nature. He sees everything. He knows everything. And yet, He waits...
Let me take you back to the year 2004. I was studying my 2nd year Post Graduate in Chemistry at the Swami's Institute. It was that golden period of my student days when Swami took a lot of interest in student programmes. He encouraged us to put up programmes in His Divine presence. In fact, on one occasion, when the warden requested Swami to come and sit outside between the darshan and bhajansessions, Swami said,
“Why should I? There is no programme today!”
We had no idea then that this kind of ‘programming’ would become the precursor to a plethora of programmes by the different State and International Sathya Sai Organizations later. However, we were happy to be part of Swami’s plan. In fact, seeing so many programmes being demanded by Swami of the students, the seniors in the organization thought of providing ‘relief’ by passing a resolution that different groups would that visited Prashanti should also have a cultural programme ready for presentation. Today, when I look back to those days, I get goosebumps realizing how Swami was preparing a new mode to chances for devotees from the world over - through songs, dramas and other programmes in His presence.

The 'programmer's dilemma'...
Getting back to the story, it was the first day in the month of September, 2004. September 6th was Krishna Janmashtami and I got an idea that we should put up a programme in Swami’s presence for that occasion. We were the senior most class in the hostel and we had been given the privilege of proposing programmes at short notice. However, the idea was not given an enthusiastic reception. Though there were a few who backed the idea and were enthusiastic like me, most of the ‘necessary individuals’ did not warm up to the idea. Their reasons were:
1. We had already put up three programmes in the past month and there was a kind of ‘saturation’!
2. Just because Swami was giving us chances, it did not mean that we should put up programmes in such a hurry.
3. The monthly tests were round the corner and all had to get busy studying.
I could see meaning in the reasoning, but somehow, my reasoning did not make sense to them. My reasoning was:
1. Swami is giving chances and we should grab them with both hands.
2. If we take care of our intention and keep prayers going, Swami will take care of the programme.
However, there were about 4-5 good speakers in the class who agreed with my idea and we decided that we would go ahead with the programme. We decided that the format would be two comperes hosting the programme with a few songs and dances interspersed in between. Since there were six of us, we divided ourselves into 3 compere-pairs. We requested the students from the higher secondary school to prepare a couple of dances. We requested the bhajan group to prepare some songs.
There is a reason why am narrating all these details and I request the reader’s indulgence for a while more. :)
The six of us met up to decide what should be the theme of the programme and it was a combined inspiration that we should relive the story of lord Krishna in a different perspective. For instance, there is the episode of Vasudeva’s chains dropping away when baby Krishna was born. The prison doors opened and the father got the chance to take the child safely away to Gokul, away from the wrath of the demon Kamsa. On his return to the prisons, the gates locked again and his shackles bound him. We interpreted this as once you ‘pick’ up God, you are ‘set free’ and when you ‘put down’ God, you are ‘bound and shackled.” The entire programme was a creative interpretation like this.
We had to ensure the programme quality with our content for we had nothing on the ‘presentation’ front with all our ‘class’ performers backing out of the programme. In fact, I remember calling one of my friends, Raju, on the intercom phone from my room and shedding tears,
“Why are we not getting any support for this program? Swami definitely sees what the ‘anti-programmers’ are feeling. But does He not see what our intentions and feelings are?”
Raju reassured me,
“Don’t worry. Our motives and feelings are pure. Swami will support us. Let us go and read all of Swami’s discourses on Krishnashtami and we will get more ideas on the content.”
We approached the warden and told him that we would be ready with a programme for Krishnashtami. He was happy (and was unaware of all that we were going through) and himself told a wonderful experience.
When he was a student, Swami had visited the hostel on a Krishna Janmashtami day. He spoke only about the Krishna avatar. While narrating how Lord Krishna would go with his cowherd friends, the gopalas, for grazing cows, Swami said,
“Krishna would tie a cloth around his head when he was with the cows.”
Swami then asked for a piece of cloth. The warden, a student then, ran to his room and fetched his towel. Swami took it from him and to the great joy and wonder of all the students present there, tied it around His head, the way Krishna would!
Ah! That was pure delight and Swami too was beaming a smile.
Listening to warden’s narrative made us feel better and we slept well that night.

Divine assistance...
The next day, we headed off to the library, not for studies but to research all of Swami’s Krishnashtami discourses. I randomly picked a volume of Sathya Sai Speaks and searched for the Krishnashtami discourse. Immediately, goosebumps erupted on my skin.
The discourse was dated September 6th, 1977, the same day when Krishnashtami was on this year too. (The exact day of Krishnashtami varies from year to year since it is decided according to the lunar calendar.) The goosebumps only grew in size when I read the contents of that discourse. Swami had spoken about the significance of the Krishna avatar and had given the exact same interpretation for the chains falling off as we had thought of the previous day! We hungrily devoured that discourse and gathered more of the content. Even the statement that we would browse through His discourses which Raju had offered reassuringly to me seemed part of His Masterplan.
Imagine the thrill we felt when we also discovered that fact that it was during that same discourse in the Brindavan hostel that Swami had tied warden’s towel to His head!
We were sure that this was Swami’s way of telling us that He backed us. The six of us prepared with great enthusiasm and joy.
But the question still remained - how were we to make a good presentation or programme only with six speakers. There had to be good dances, songs, skits and other such depictions too for a complete programme. We left that worry completely to Swami, who, we were sure by now, was watching over us.
The next couple of days saw us prepare in all thoroughness, but at the end of it, the only programme we had ready were 6 excellent speeches based on what Swami had said. We also came to know that Swami would be delivering His divine discourse on the Krishnashtami morning, i.e. the 6th of September, 2004 morning.
Suddenly, our programme seemed to make no meaning at all! If BHagawan was to deliver His discourse, it naturally meant that there would be no other programme that morning. We went to the warden for his opinion. He told us to be prepared and dressed in our colorful costumes all the same. He said that Swami’s will would prevail and that was something we already knew!
And so, at the break of dawn on 6th September, I dressed up in a golden-chromekurta. The others too wore their grand dresses. With a prayer on our lips, we set out to the mandir. What happened that morning, simply took our breath away and I realized how God always sees the Truth, though He waits!
