El Maha Sahasra Kalashabhishekam en Prashanti Nilayam
El día 26 de septiembre de 2012, fue Maha Sahasra Kalashabhishekam celebrado en el Salón Sai Kulwant en Prashanti Nilayam. Para los que no entienden el sánscrito, el término mencionado anteriormente se refiere a un ritual en el que una forma de la Divinidad (ídolo de Bhagavan Sri Sathya Sai Baba en este caso) se le da un baño ceremonial con 1.108 vasijas de plata con agua. El agua contenida en estas vasijas llegan de todos los ríos, lugares de peregrinación y espejos de agua bendita en todo India. Más de 1000 personas participaron en este evento que tuvo como lema - Samasta Lokaha Sukhino Bhavantu . (Que todos los seres de todos los mundos sean felices) .
La ceremonia de la mañana fue estupenda y hecha completamente de acuerdo con los rituales tradicionales. El Reportero Prasanthi realizo un detallado artículo sobre los sucesos del día. Mi intención al escribir esto es para señalar algo conmovedor y profundo que Swami demostró Pero antes de llegar a eso, me referiré brevemente visitando las páginas de la historia de Prashanti.

Eran (y son) muchos los que cuestionan la necesidad de tales rituales. Hay un sentimiento creciente entre muchos que el ritual espiritual no es necesario. Pero bueno, incluso la palabra "espiritual"tiene la palabra en ella- espi-ritual -!
Respondiendo a los críticos, durante un discurso divino, en 1962, Swami dijo, "Algunos críticos están generando un clamor, que el Yagna Dusshera es la ocasión en que una buena cantidad de manteca de vaca se desperdicia, y una gran cantidad de madera de sándalo se quemó.
Ellos calculan el precio de la mantequilla de búfalo y sándalo en rupias y paisa y lloran sobre el costo de estos artículos adquiribles, olvidando la alegría que se alcanza a través del Yagna.
Un agricultor cultiva su campo y derrama sobre el una bolsa de semillas de arroz. Para el observador ignorante esto puede parecer una pérdida de grano precioso. Pero el granjero sabe que en su momento lo que cosechará serán cien sacos de arroz. Asimismo, la ofrenda de las cosas preciosas ghee y otras en el yajna con mantras, dará lugar a un sinnúmero de beneficios en el tiempo. Las personas pueden persibir sólo lo que se ofrece. Pero no tienen idea de los beneficios que recibirán El ejemplo de las semillas que el campesino disperso, causó una impresión muy fuerte en mi corazón cuando estaba leyendo ese discurso.
Hablando en la misma ocasión, Swami mencionó la forma en que un Yajna beneficia a la humanidad. Él dijo: " Al igual que el fuego, es al humo. Al igual que el humo, son las nubes. Como son las nubes, es la lluvia. Como es la lluvia, son los cultivos. Como son los cultivos, así es la comida. Como es la comida, así es el intelecto.
Como las nubes en estos días no se forman por el humo que sale del yajnas, los alimentos consumidos por la población no son propicios para el crecimiento de la inteligencia. Cuando el humo que sube desde el yajnakunda entra en las nubes, la lluvia es sagrada, ayuda a purificar los cultivos y santificar la comida que se consume. Como resultado, las personas son santificados " .
Puttaparthi es testimonio de esta verdad. El nombre santo de la aldea se deriva del término " vardhini putta "que se refiere a un lugar lleno de hormigueros. Una tierra propensa a la sequía, polvorienta y estéril se ha convertido hoy en un paraíso verde con abundantes lluvias y cientos de especies de aves que lo visitan. El papel de los yajnas en esta transformación, aunque sutil, es demasiada coincidencia de ignorar.
En el centro estan las mil vasijas llenas de agua de los ríos y lugares sagrados en toda la India.

Y el día 26 de septiembre en 2012, otro testimonio llegó. Las lluvias han sido escasas este año y el estado de Andhra Pradesh se tambalea bajo el estrés. Debido a que no hay suficiente agua natural, para regar los cultivos sembrados, un montón de bombas eléctricas para extraer el agua subterránea se han puesto en funcionamiento. Y puesto que la alimentación de las redes electricas han sido desviadas para suministrar a estas bombas, se han producido cortes extensos de energía. Eso ha llevado a la pérdida en negocios para muchos.
En resumen, sólo las lluvias faltantes han dado lugar a un círculo vicioso de problemas. Y la semana pasada, sobre todo ha parecido como un segundo verano en Puttaparthi - que ha sido a causa de la intensa sequía. Hoy por la mañana fui testigo de más de un millar de vasijas de agua que se ofrecieron a Dios / Naturaleza / Universo. Por la tarde, aun cuando el programa había comenzó, hubo ya, truenos fuertes. Los rayo llegaron rápidamente y comenzó a llover con toda la furia. La intensidad de la lluvia era tal que las pantallas gigantes que se habían colocado en la sala tuvieron que ser enrrolladas para evitar que se vuelen por los vientos!
A las 23:15 pm de la noche mientras escribo esto, los truenos continúan junto con las lluvias! .
¿Es una coincidencia? A la mañana se hace un abhisheka Sahasra ( baño con mil vasijas) al Señor , y somos testigos por la tarde de un abhisheka Koti (baño con miles de millones de vasijas) por el Señor a la ciudad?, no es un milagro.
Casi cada vez que ha llovido en Puttaparthi, los días anteriores se han registrado lluvias, ya sea en la ciudad de Hyderabad o Bangalore (Bengaluru). Inmediatamente llamé a estas dos ciudades"y pregunte por las lluvias", y ni una gota había caído en estas ciudades. Se me puso la piel de gallina incluso cuando , lo confirme con mi hermana en Bangalore, que el día había sido muy seco. Personalmente, estoy en condiciones de apreciar el hecho de que inculcar el espíritu de sacrificio y amor por el universo es la verdadera razón detrás de muchos de los rituales seguidos. El ritual de hecho nos lleva a ser espirituales.

For those that do not understand Sanskrit, the term mentioned above refers to a ritual wherein a form of Divinity (idol of Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba in this case) is given a ceremonial bath with 1108 silver pots of water. The water contained in these pots arrive from all the rivers, places of pilgrimage and holy water bodies all around India. More than 1000 people participated in this event which had the theme -Samasta Lokaha Sukhino Bhavantu (May all the beings in all the world be happy).
The ceremony in the morning was grand and done completely in accordance to the traditional rituals. The Prasanthi Reporter carried a detailed article on the happenings of the day. My intention in writing this is to point out to something poignant and profound that Swami demonstrated. But before I come to that, I must briefly visit the pages of Prasanthi history.

Swami's powerful words
It was more than six decades ago that Swami began the Dusshera Yajna. A Yajna is the fire-sacrifice in which many offerings are poured into the holy fire. There were (and are) many who question the need for such rituals. There is a growing feeling among many that the ritual is unnecessary for the spiritual. But well, even the word ‘spiritual’ has the word in it!
It was more than six decades ago that Swami began the Dusshera Yajna. A Yajna is the fire-sacrifice in which many offerings are poured into the holy fire. There were (and are) many who question the need for such rituals. There is a growing feeling among many that the ritual is unnecessary for the spiritual. But well, even the word ‘spiritual’ has the word in it!
Responding to the critics, during a divine discourse in 1962, Swami said,
“Some critics are raising a hue and cry that the Dusshera Yagna is the occasion when a good deal of cow’s ghee is wasted and a large quantity of sandalwood is burnt. Perhaps they value ghee and fuel higher than life. They calculate the price of ghee and sandalwood in rupees and paisa and cry about the cost of these purchasable articles, forgetting the joy that is attained through the Yagna. Well, each one of these critics has consumed, so far, many a bag of rice; what, may I ask, is the great benefit they have done for mankind? How is the world better for all the ghee that they have consumed? Do they at least lead joyful lives? Do their relatives lead happy lives on account of them? What is the criteria for condemning a thing as ‘waste’?
A farmer tills his field and scatters over it a bag of paddy seeds. To the ignorant observer this may appear a waste of precious grain. But the farmer knows that in due course he will reap a harvest of hundred bags of paddy. Likewise the offering of ghee and other precious things in the yajna with mantras will result in countless benefits in good time. People may notice only what is being offered. But they have no idea of the benefits that will follow.
The example of the farmer scattering seeds made a very strong impression in my heart when I was reading that discourse. Speaking on the same occasion, Swami mentioned the manner in which a Yajna benefits humanity. He said,
“As is the fire, so is the smoke. As is the smoke, so are the clouds. As are the clouds, so is the rain. As is the rain, so are the crops. As are the crops, so is the food. As is the food, so is the intellect. As the clouds these days are not formed by the smoke coming from yajnas, the food consumed by the people is not conducive to the growth of intelligence. When the smoke going up from the yajnakunda enters the clouds, you have sacred rain, which helps to purify the crops and sanctify the food that is consumed. As a result, the people are sanctified.”
Puttaparthi stands testimony to this Truth. The name of the holy hamlet is derived from the term “putta vardhini” which refers to a place full of anthills. A drought-prone, dusty and infertile land has today turned into a green paradise with abundant rains and hundreds of species of birds visiting it. The role of the Yajnasin this transformation, though subtle, is too coincidental to ignore.
The central 'display' is of the thousand pots filled with the water from rivers and holy spots all over India.

And today, the 26th day of September in 2012, another testimony was forthcoming.
The rains have been poor this year and the state of Andhra Pradesh is reeling under that stress. Since there is not enough natural water to water the sown crops, a lot of electrical pumps to harvest the groundwater have been set up. And since power from the grids have been diverted to supply to these pumps, there have been extensive power cuts. That has led to loss of business for many. In short, just the rains failing has lead to a vicious cycle of problems. And the last week especially has seemed like a second summer in Puttaparthi - that has been the intensity of the rain-drought.
Today morning had witnessed more than a thousand pots of water offered to God / Nature / Universe. In the evening, even as the programme began, there were loud thunderclaps. Lightning came in quick flashes and it began to pour down in all fury. The intensity of the rain was such that the giant screens which have been placed in the hall had to be retracted to prevent them from being blown away! It is 11:15pm at night as I type this and the thunder is still on, along with the rains!
Is this a coincidence? The morning sees a Sahasra Abhisheka (bath with thousand pots) to the Lord and the evening witnesses a Koti Abhisheka (bath with billions of pots) by the Lord?
I am not the one to immediately hail something as a miracle. Almost every time that it has rained in Puttaparthi, the preceding days there have been rains in either the city of Hyderabad or Bangalore (Bengaluru). Immediately I called up these two ‘rain-preceding’ cities and not a drop had fallen in these cities.
Goosebumps erupted on my skin even as I got off the line, confirming from my sister in Bangalore that the day had been as dry as it could be. Personally, I am able to appreciate the fact that inculcating the spirit of sacrifice and love for the universe is the actual reason behind many of the rituals followed. The ritual indeed leads one to becoming spiritual.
