La primera vez que vi a Bhagvan Sathya Sai Baba fue el 15 de mayo de 1969. Yo era entonces Presidente del Tribunal Supremo de Gujarat, y cuando me enteré de que iba a venir a Ahmedabad, me puse en contacto con los organizadores para solicitar una audiencia. Más tarde pregunté si podía hospedarlo en mi casa. Yo estaba de vacaciones, pero yo volvía a Ahmedabad. Preparamos una habitación equipada para Swami, y decoramos el patio con rangoli. Yo estaba muy emocionado. A la mañana siguiente fui hasta el avión para recibirlo.

La primera vista de él fue abrumadora. Yo era un devoto de Krishna, y cuando bajó del avión, vi a mi Krishna en él. Ese encuentro cambió el rumbo de mi vida. Empecé a sentir por primera vez que había un Dios vivo que guía mis pasos. 
A diferencia de Krishna que es inmaterial, aquí había alguien tangible que podía mirar y amar. Siempre he tenido inclinación  espiritual. En Swami, me encontré con el objeto de mi espiritualidad.

Para Dassera fui a Puttaparthi en compañía del Juez Gopalswami Iyengar y su esposa. Poco antes, su esposa había narrado un incidente cuando se le recomendó someterse a una operación. Ella sólo lo hizo, después de que Shirdi Sai Baba se le apareció y le dijo que ella estaría a salvo. Cuando fuimos a ver a Swami, lo primero que dijo cuando vio a la señora Iyengar fue: ` Le dije que la operación sería exitosa `` No había manera de que pudiera haber sabido acerca de ella ?.

Más tarde fuimos testigos de Swami manifestando vibhuti en abhisheka sobre la estatua de Shirdi Sai Baba. Su acompañante mantenía el jarrón boca abajo, y Swami puso su mano en el y una avalancha de vibhuti descendía sobre la estatua. En el momento en que él retiró su mano, el vibhuti dejo de caer del jarrón, aunque seguía estando invertido. Fue increíble.

Sin embargo, la contribución de Swami, más importante, es su mensaje de amor y servicio. El objetivo de la humana vida es darse cuenta de la divinidad interior. Amor y servicio son los dos instrumentos de este logro.

Aunque yo siempre he tenido una inclinación espiritual en mi mente, su presencia me ha dado una tremenda fuerza y empuje. Por ejemplo, en los últimos 25 años, nunca me he enojado. La misma divinidad está en todo el mundo. No tengo derecho a enojarme. Además, cuando te das cuenta de que la divinidad es lo único digno de alcanzar, toda lo demás son accesorios. La pérdida de dinero no me haría daño, porque sería el Señor el que lo hará.

Swami ha cuidado de mí y me protegió muchas veces. El año pasado, en Ginebra, estaba de pie debajo de una lampara. De repente,  se rompió en mil pedazos y volaron por toda la habitación, pero ni uno me tocó. En otra ocasión, tuve una inflamación en el pie cuando fui a Puttaparthi para mi cumpleaños el 21 de diciembre. El hospital me diagnosticó como una fractura. Cuando conocí a Swami por sus bendiciones en el 21, puso su mano tres veces en el pie. Al día siguiente el pie estaba casi curado y en unos pocos días había regresado a la normalidad.

Considero que la presencia de Swami `s en mi vida es una gran bendición.

The first time I saw Bhagvan Sathya Sai Baba was on May 15, 1969. I was then the Chief Justice of Gujarat, and when I heard that he was coming to Ahmedabad, I got in touch with the organisers to ask for an audience. They later asked if I could have him at my home to stay. I was on vacation then, but I came down to Ahmedabad. We got a room fitted for Swami, and decorated the courtyard with rangoli-I was tremendously exhilarated and excited. The next morning I went right up to the aircraft to receive him.

The first sight of him was overwhelming. I`ve been a devotee of Krishna and when he alighted from the aircraft, I saw my Krishna in him. That meeting changed the course of my life. I began to feel for the first time that there was a living God guiding my footsteps. Unlike Krishna who is intangible, here was someone tangible you can look at and love. I have always been spiritually inclined. In Swami, I found the object of my spirituality.

That Dassera I went to Puttaparthi in the company of Justice Gopalswami Iyengar and his wife. Earlier, his wife had narrated an incident when she was advised to undergo an operation. She only did it after Shirdi Sai Baba appeared to her and told her that it would be safe. When we went to see Swami, the first thing he said when he saw Mrs Iyengar was: ``Didn`t I tell you the operation would be successful?`` There was no way he could have known about it.

Later we witnessed Swami perform vibhuti abhisheka over the statue of Shirdi Sai Baba. His attendant would hold the jar upside down, Swami would put his hand in it and an avalanche of vibhuti would descend over the statue. The minute he withdrew his hand, the vibhuti would stop falling although the jar continued to be upside down. It was amazing.

However, Swami`s most important contribution is his message of love
and service. The course of human life
is to realise the divinity within. Love
and service are the two instruments for this attainment.

Although I have always had a spiritual bent of mind, his presence has given me tremendous strength and push. For instance, in the past 25 years, I have never got angry. The same divinity is in everybody. I have no right to get angry. Also, when you realise that divinity is the only thing worth attaining, all the other attachments drop. The loss of money
would not hurt me, because it would be the Lord`s will.

Swami has looked after me and protected me many times. Last year, in Geneva, I was standing below a light with a shade. Suddenly the shade shattered into a hundred pieces that flew all over the room, but not one touched me. Another time, I had a swelling in my foot when I went to Puttaparthi to ring in my birthday on December 21. The hospital there diagnosed it as a fracture. When I met Swami for his blessings on the 21st, he put his hand three times on the foot. The next day the foot was almost healed and in a few days I was back to normal.

I consider Swami`s presence in my Life to be a great blessing.
