¿Qué es la oración?
Esta es una pregunta muy subjetiva. La respuesta varía de un individuo a otro. Las obras completas de la literatura se pueden hacer en oración, y la oración sola, ha inspirado a cientos de parábolas e historias. Sólo tienes que preguntar a diez personas distintas, que piensan ellos que es la oración, y seguramente vas a obtener respuestas variadas.
Recuerdo una historia corta y potente que he leído. Un hombre va a un maestro y le pregunta: "¿Qué es la vida?" El maestro responde: "La vida es el dulce aroma de la gota de rocío que cae suavemente sobre el suelo, desde un pétalo de una flor de jazmín. "
"Pero, maestro", el hombre continúa, "estoy confundido". "¿Por qué mi hijo?", pregunta el maestro. "Yo estuve con otro maestro y me dijo que la vida era el pinchazo doloroso de una aguja, cuyo acero se ha templado en el más caliente de los hornos ". "Esa es su vida", el maestro desconcertado comentó, y se retiró en silencio. "
¿Qué es la oración?" es una cuestión con muchas respuestas, tan variadas como la pregunta "¿Qué es la vida? "
También he oído hablar de una historia donde un niño repite los 26 letras del alfabetos en Inglés, y dice: "¡Dios! Os he dado todas las letras. Haga su oración favorita con ellas ! " .
En un intento por reunir más sentimientos y opiniones, lance esta pregunta abierta en Facebook. Las respuestas que surgieron eran a la vez hermosas e interesantes. Les comparto:
"La oración es una conversación con Dios"
"Cualquier combinación de las 26 letras, que se traduce en la fusión con el corazón divino"
"Es una charla real con Dios. Para mí, cuando rezo, yo sólo converso con Swami acerca de mi día, otras personas, de todo. Una especie de divinos chismes, donde compartimos todo"
"Con la oración estoy pidiendo el ser superior el paso de la falsedad a la verdad, la oscuridad a la luz, la muerte a la inmortalidad. "
"Una petición a Dios para cumplir con los deseos de uno"
"Es relacionarse con Dios cada momento que respiramos".
"Es un monólogo, donde el ser supremo escucha y responde a escondidas !"
Por lo tanto, no voy a tratar de definir la oración aquí. Lo que quiero compartir es algo que he leído en las faces de la oración. Este fue titulado como las cuatro etapas de la oración.
Lo que me sorprendió fue que cada etapa de la oración representa una etapa en la misión Avatarica. Como una espiral hacia arriba, al igual que las etapas de la misión Avatarica.
Sin más preámbulos, aquí están las cuatro etapas.
La conexión con Dios ...
La primera etapa:
"La oración es cuando el devoto habla y Dios escucha."
Viajando de regreso al año 1940. Fue el año en que nuestro querido Swami declaró su avataridad. Él declaró: "Yo soy Sai Baba", y luego cantó la canción del inmortal -Manasa Bhajare Guru charanam .
Una investigación revela este momento histórico como "disparador". Swami venia de la escuela y entró en su casa. Abrió la puerta y tiró los libros. Esto fue en Uravakonda donde vivía con su hermano y su cuñada, el Sr. y la Sra. Seshama Raju. El fuerte golpe de los libros que cayeron al suelo, atrajo al hermano y su señora corriendo al lugar.
Él declaró: "Maya (la ilusión) se ha ido. Yo no soy su Sathya. Yo pertenezco al mundo. "
¿Que le hizo decir esa frase de la nada? Él respondió a esta pregunta entonces. "Mis devotos me están llamando!".
Ese fue el comienzo de la vida del hombre-Dios, el Avatar, el reformador social, el Señor, como las diferentes personas en el mundo lo saben.
¡Ah! Esa fue la primera etapa de la oración - cuando el devoto habla y escucha Dios.
La segunda etapa es cuando Dios habla y escucha el devoto ...
La segunda etapa:
"La oración es cuando Dios habla y escucha el devoto."
Una vez más, viajamos hacia atrás en la historia. En 1950, el ashram de Prashanti Nilayam se empezó a construir. El tiempo de sus lilas (divino deporte) comenzó . Fue entonces cuando la gente se reunía de manera informal por cientos y Swami les hablaba. Estas reuniones crecieron en tamaño a miles de personas. La informalidad se transformó en más formal. Así fue como los días festivos y las reuniones, fueron ocasiones cuando Swami hablaba a la multitud. Estos discursos han sido compilados como Sathya Sai Speaks .
Una vez más, la segunda parte de la vida de Swami parece estar en perfecta sincronización con la segunda etapa de la oración.
Una conversación con el Señor ...
La tercera etapa:
"La oración es cuando ambos (Dios y el devoto) dialogan."
Para ello, no tenemos que viajar mucho en la historia. La última década es un testimonio de este hecho. Prashanti Nilayam fue testigo de multitudes cada vez mayores y un número creciente de programas culturales que se realizaron en la presencia física de Swami.
¿Qué hizo que estos programas populares para todos los participantes y espectadores por igual, fueran la interacción entre el Swami y los devotos?.
Miles tienen buenos recuerdos de sus interacciones con Swami después de haber estado en su presencia. Esta memoria tiene una forma física, como una fotografía, un vídeo-clip, momentos o un simple recuerdo. Cada estudiante, todos los devotos, cada persona curiosa que venia con regularidad a Prashanti, tenian alguna posibilidad de una interacción con él, y él / ella recuerda aquellos 'diálogos'. De hecho, tanto Dios y el devoto hablaron y se escucharon los dos!
La cuarta etapa:
"La oración es cuando ninguno de los dos (Dios y el devoto) ni hablan ni escuchan."
¡Ah! Esta es una etapa que no necesita ninguna explicación. Hoy en día, nos encontramos en esta etapa. Simplemente no puede "hablarle " a él, ni "Él" nos habla de la forma en que estamos acostumbrados. Sin embargo, sí...! Él nos escucha. Pero, ¿podemos escucharlo?
La respuesta se genera desde dentro. Si "escuchamos" sus palabras y enseñanzas, podemos "escucharlo" a Él ! . Es simple comprensión, que Swami se ha trasladado a la cuarta etapa, pero nosotros no lo hemos hecho. Cada uno de nosotros estamos atrapados en las distintas etapas de la oración, sin pasar a la cuarta etapa.
Personalmente, siento que estoy un poco atascado en la tercera etapa y un poco en la segunda etapa ...
Una vez más, diferentes personas tienen diferentes pensamientos acerca de sus propias etapas. A lo que estoy tratando de llegar, es que el camino a seguir para nosotros los devotos , es llegar a la cuarta etapa!.
Entonces, ¿cómo lo escuchamos a Él?... Swami dijo,
"Es sólo en las profundidades del silencio que la voz de Dios se oye."
Necesitamos el silencio. Y no es el silencio de las cuerdas vocales ... Necesitamos el silencio verdadero .
Voy a citar otro mensaje de Facebook aquí: "ESCUCHE Y SILENCIOSO, son dos palabras con el mismo alfabeto. Sólo un verdadero amigo puede escucharlo a usted, cuando usted está en silencio ... "
Siempre a la escucha ... Siempre a la espera de ser escuchados ...

What is prayer?
This is a very subjective question. The answer varies from individual to individual. Complete works of literature can be made on prayer alone and prayer has inspired hundreds of parables and stories. Just go around and ask ten people on what they think is prayer and you will surely get varied answers. I remember a short and powerful story that I read.
A man goes to a master and asks,
“What is life?”
The master responds,
“Life is the sweet scent of the dewdrop as it falls gently on to the ground from the petal of a jasmine flower.”
“But master”, the man continues, “I am confused.”
“Why my child?”, asks the master.
“I had been to another master and he said that life was the painful prick of a sharp needle whose steel has been tempered in the hottest of furnaces.”
“That’s his life”, the bemused master remarked and retired into silence.
“What is prayer?” is a question with as varied answers as the question “What is life?”
I have also heard of a story where a child repeats the 26 alphabets in English and says,
“God! I have given you all the letters. Make up your favorite prayer from them and bless me!”
In an attempt to gather more feelings and opinions, I threw this question open on Facebook. The answers that came up were both beautiful and interesting. I share them with you.
“Prayer is conversation with God”
“Any combination of the 26 letters that results in the melting of the divine heart”
“It's a real world chat with god. For me, when I pray, I just converse with Swami about my day, other people, everything - a kind of divine gossiping where we will share everything.”
“Prayer to me is requesting the higher self within to lead from untruth to truth;darkness to light;death to immortality. “
"A request to God to fulfill one's wishes"
“In connection with God every moment we breathe.”
“It's a monologue, where the supreme being eavesdrops and responds!”
So, I shall not try to define prayer here. What I want to share is something that I read on the facets of prayer. This was titled as the four stages of prayer. What struck me was that each stage of prayer depicted a stage in Swami’s Avatarhood. The stages spiral upwards just as the Avataric mission gained steam and moved ahead in full thrust.
Without further ado, here are the four stages.
Connecting with God...
The first stage:
"Prayer is when the devotee speaks and God listens."
Travel back to 1940. It was the year when our dear Swami declared His avatarhood. He declared, “I am Sai Baba” and then sang the song immortal -Manasa Bhajare Guru Charanam. A little enquiry will reveal the ‘trigger’ for this historic moment.
Swami walked into His home from school. He opened the door and threw away the books. This was in Uravakonda where He was staying with His brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Seshama Raju. The loud thud that the books made as they crashed to the floor brought the brother and sister-in-law rushing to the spot. He declared,
“Maya (delusion) has left. I am not your Sathya. I belong to the world and I am leaving.”
What made Him say such a thing out of the blue? He answered this question then and there:
“My devotees are calling me!”
That was the beginning of the life of the Godman, the Avatar, the Social Reformer, the Lord - as different people in the world know it.
Ah! That was the first stage of prayer - when the devotee speaks and God listens.
The second stage is when God speaks and the devotee listens...
The second stage:
"Prayer is when God speaks and the devotee listens."
Once again, we travel back in history. By 1950, the Prasanthi Nilayam ashram came up. The time for leelas (divine sport) was done and the upadesh(discoursing)began. It was now that people would gather informally in hundreds and Swami would speak to them. These gatherings grew in size to thousands. The informality changed into one of a more formal nature. Thus it was that the different festival days and occasions were slotted when Swami would speak.
These discourses have been compiled as Sathya Sai Speaks.
Again, the second part of Swami’s life seems to be perfectly in sync with the second stage of prayer.
A conversation with the Lord...
The third stage:
"Prayer is when both (God and devotee) speak and both listen."
For this, we need not travel much into history. The last decade stands testimony to this fact. Prasanthi Nilayam witnessed ever-increasing crowds and a growing number of cultural programmes that were put up in Swami’s physical presence. What made these programmes popular for all participants and viewers alike was the interaction between Swami and the devotees. Thousands have fond memories of their interactions with Swami after they had performed in His presence. This memory takes a physical shape today as a photograph, video-clip, a momento or a simple souvenir. Every student, every devotee, every curious person who made it regularly to Prasanthi got some chance for an interaction with Him and he/she remembers that ‘dialogue’.
Indeed, both God and devotee spoke and both listened!
The fourth stage:
"Prayer is when neither (God and devotee) speak and both listen."
Ah! This is a stage that needs no explanation. Today, we find ourselves in this stage. We just cannot ‘speak’ to Him nor can ‘He’ speak to us the way we are used to. But yes! He does listen to us. But can we hear Him?
The answer forms from within. If we ‘listen’ to Him (His words and teachings), we can ‘hear’ Him! It is simple understanding that Swami has moved to the fourth stage but we haven’t. Each one of us are stuck at the various stages of prayer without moving to the fourth stage.
Personally, I am stuck a bit in the third stage and a bit in the second stage I feel...Again, different people will have different thoughts about their own stages. What I am trying to get to is that the way ahead for us devotees, is to reach the fourth stage!
So, how do we listen to Him? Swami has said,
“It is only in the depths of silence that the voice of God is heard.”
WE NEED SILENCE. And not the silence of the vocal chords... We need the true silence.

Always listening... always waiting to be heard...
