" LA MISION DE SAI Y SU CONTINUIDAD"_Parte III

OM… OM… OM…
Sai Ram
¡No!
¡No!
¡Sandeces!
Díganle "¡No!" a tales sueños. Estoy pronto a hacerle frente a cualquier problema.
¡Canta a coro! No es un concierto de M.S. Subba Lakshmi ni de M.L. Vasantha Kumari. ¡No!

Questions and Answers

OM…OM…OM…
Sai Ram
With Pranams at the Lotus Feet of Bhagavan,
Dear Brothers and Sisters,
What was Baba’s last message to His devotees?
Baba’s first message was also His final message:
Manasa Bhajare Guru Charanam,
Dustara Bhava Sagara Taranam.
O Mind, without worshiping the Lotus Feet of Guru Sai Natha,
It is not possible to cross the ocean of life and death.
That is Baba’s first and last message to us, and it is also His future message. It is His message even now: Manasa Bhajare Guru Charanam! (Applause)
We are keen to do seva projects, but in our organisation there are many protocols that must be followed. These protocols often delay us in achieving our mission. So what shall we do?
Protocol is different from reverence, and protocol is different from respect. Protocol relates to the official, while respect and reverence relate to the spiritual. So in the Sai organisation, let us place the emphasis on reverence and respect rather than on so much protocol. This is fundamental as ours is a spiritual organisation, not a bureaucratic officialdom. Am I clear? Our emphasis should be on total respect, not bureaucracy. That’s all. (Applause)
So how do you advise our organisational leaders to overcome the restrictions of their positions and titles, in order to be spiritual in their action?
Oh, it is a psychological problem. Why? It is like this: While occupying a certain position, I have developed an image. With this position, I have developed my personality, received some respect, and gained some sort of status. However, when that position is gone, I am suddenly nobody! So therefore, I am not prepared to quit the position!
Let us take Baba Himself as an example. What position does He have? He is not samithi convenor, nor is He a state president. He is also not a national coordinator. He is not even a rich man, as He has no bank account also! He has no high PhD or DSc degrees. In fact, He dropped out of school in the seventh class! (Laughter) Even His body is not completely fit—only one ear can hear and only one eye can see; but still He is totally Divine! That is Sathya Sai Baba.
So if you rise above your position, then you are like Baba—Divine! You are egoless. It is only a question of transition, of evolution, under His guidance and grace. Am I clear? Those who have Divine grace will rise above their position. Those who enjoy His blessings are not conscious of their position because ultimately a position is an imposition! So you are free, that’s all! It is all up to Him, that’s all. Am I clear? (Applause)
Swami’s love for His devotees is unique, and it always leaves me in awe and wonder. Can you please share some personal examples of how His love is so unique?
Yes, Swami’s love is unique! He speaks to a primary school child with the same affection as He does to a college student. He speaks to a professor with the same concern He has for a student. He talks to ashram authorities with the same love He has for the professors. When He talks to the President of India, the Prime Minister, the King of Nepal, or the King of Greece, He speaks to each of them in the same tone and with the same love.
That is the uniqueness of Sathya Sai Baba’s love! He shares the same love with all, whereas you and I do not. When we speak to our boss, we treat him very differently than we do a subordinate. If there is a question of cash involved, we will treat someone differently. But Swami showers the same love upon everyone. He shares the same love with all, whether a servant, a maid, a student, or anyone else!
So what should you do if someone says to you, “Swami loves me more!”? Pity him please! He doesn’t know what he’s talking about. (Laughter) That fellow is still under the spell of delusion. (Laughter) Baba loves everybody equally and entirely. So if any fellow says to you, “The sun shines mostly on me,” then just let him enjoy his madness! (Laughter) Baba loves everyone equally. That is the uniqueness of Sai’s love.
You may be a sinner or a saint, virtuous or debauched, a scholar or an illiterate fool; you may be doing sadhana or not. Our Sai is high, infinite, and above all these things. No matter what you are, He loves you just the same. He loves us in spite of all our mistakes and in spite of all our pitfalls! Nobody else will love us like that. That kind of supreme love is above duality. It is continuous giving and forgiving. That’s what He is—the Divine embodiment of Divine Love! (Applause)
Lately I have been attending a ‘Hare Krishna Satsang’ lead by a guru. I am a Swami devotee. Is it wrong to attend the satsang of another guru?
There are some gurus who show you the true way. Suppose you take me to Singapore on a tour, and you arrange for a guide to show us around. (We went on such a duck tour here, where another ‘duck’ was explaining what was happening!) (Laughter) We might learn a lot from this guide about Singapore. So it’s the same with a guru. It doesn’t mean that this guru is the ultimate, but he has shown me what is true. So, true gurus show the way.
However, Baba is the way and the goal. So there is a double benefit! In the Holy Bible it is written, “I am life, I am the goal, I am the way!” That ‘I am’ is Sai Baba! That ‘I am’ is Sathya Sai! (Applause) So He is the goal and the way. (Applause)
Could you please advise us what an individual should do to be a better teacher (for example, a guru at a Sathya Sai Education in Human Values centre)?
It’s probably better that we don’t call the teacher ‘guru’ because it is a name that carries a lot of responsibility. ‘Gu’ stands for ‘gunatita’, which means ‘attributeless, without attributes’, and ‘ru’ stands for ‘rupa varjitah’, or ‘formless’! Guru illuminates; it is He who dispels darkness. We teachers don’t do that. We are only teachers.
So then, what should we do to be good teachers? Do you want me to tell you my secrets? You want to know the secrets of my success? Just like that? (Laughter) They’re my trade secrets! I can’t tell you! My secrets have enabled me to earn money and respect as a successful teacher. So how can I tell you?
Well, since I have retired, I guess it doesn’t matter, so I can tell you. When I was in service, you never could have gotten this out of me! (Laughter)
Okay then! First secret: A teacher is not merely a DVD or CD, there to repeat information over and over again. No! When you teach, you must be lively. Children don’t want monotony and repetition. You must infuse your teachings with life! When I teach Balvikas, I infuse them with life.
Second secret: A teacher must make himself presentable. You cannot come to class in some horrible, ugly dress, with your hair uncombed and your face unwashed. We are teachers, not vagabonds! A teacher has got to be presentable. So first dress, and then address! I repeat, a teacher has got to be presentable.
Third secret: A teacher has got to be resourceful. He’s got to know a lot of information. He’s got to know more than what’s in the syllabus, and he’s got to know more than the students do!
Fourth secret: A teacher should be impartial. He should treat everyone in the same manner. “He is Indian”, “He is South Indian”, “He is my neighbour” . . . Chi! A teacher who separates people like that is not a teacher at all! (Laughter) He is not worth of the name of a teacher. He should be equal to everybody! He cannot be a linguistic chauvinist or a regional ‘leper’. He should treat everybody the same, impartially.
Secret number five: A teacher should have wit and humour. “Take down the notes . . . Newton’s Law of Science . . .” Abba! (Laughter) Then add a little humour! He must bring a sense of humour into his classroom—some of wit and a sportsmanship spirit.
Six: A teacher does not complain. I must not say to my new class, “Last year’s batch was better than your group!” (Laughter) If you feel a need to say this, then resign. Just go! (Laughter) Who asked you to stay? Resign! A teacher should not complain.
And finally, Professor Anil Kumar’s secret number seven: Inspire! Be inspiring. Make your students say, “I want to be like him!”
When I was a student, some of my teachers were heroes to me. Take my English professor, for example. He used to wear the loveliest suits. I used to take so many notes about the colour of his suit and his ties! They were so nice. I always wanted to be like him because he dressed and addressed us with such style! He was so engaging that when the bell rang to signal the end of class, we’d want to shoot the peon who’d rung the bell! (Laughter) So the teacher should be a role model.
God blessed me to work under him and with him for a decade and half! Whenever I wore a new suit, he would say, “Good, Mr. Anil!” He used to call me to his office to serve me a cup of coffee, a fresh cup, when I wore a new dress.
Then, whenever there was a mistake, he used to immediately quietly correct me then and there. Yes! For example, once I was in a bit of a hurry, so I sent a notice: “Few of students will be going on biological tour. They may be permitted to leave.” I sent that notice. What’s wrong there?
My professor saw that and right away I was called to the office! “Anil Kumar, come to my office!” So I went there.
The teacher asked the peons to close the door. “I don’t expect you to write like that! I don’t expect such grammatical mistakes to be committed by you. You write ‘few students’ which means ‘nil students’. You should write ‘a few students’ . . . ‘a few students’ Do you understand that?”
“I am sorry, sir!”
“No, nothing doing! I don’t expect it from you!”
Immediately he would say, “Peon, open the door! Give him a cup of coffee. Nice boy!”
That was the style of this teacher. So a teacher should inspire his students by virtue of his personality, his resourcefulness, his ready wit, his example, and his perfection!
There are even some girls who imitate their teachers, do you know that? If the teacher wears a rose flower here, they will also wear it there. So teacher has all sorts of influence. In fact, students believe such their teacher more than their own parents. For example, if I were to say 2 X 2 = 6, even if their mother says, “No, it equals 4!” their response would be, “Shut up! My teacher told me so!”
Therefore, we should live up to our students’ expectations, that’s all! (Applause) Yes, as I am a teacher, I can go on speaking like this. What else to do? (Laughter) You are all good students for bearing with me! (Laughter)
How do I know and realise that Swami is with me always?
How do you know that Swami is with you? Since you are here, you know that Swami is with you. Many people are not here because they are not aware of Swami, without or within. Swami is with them, in them, above them, below them, and around them, but they are not aware of it. They are not aware of Him. Since you are aware of Him, of His presence, you have chosen to be here. That proves that Swami is with you. He blesses you, forever and ever! Have no doubt about it! (Applause)
My question has two parts. Given the requirements of daily work and other stresses in life, how can one keep one’s focus on the goal? And secondly, in this fast-paced stressful world, how can one maintain calm, meeting everyone and every situation with love and peace?
Though those may indeed be two questions, the answer is only one. A simple advice: When you are stressed, don’t talk to anybody. Particularly not to the wife! (Laughter) That’s because if you talk to her when you are tense, she will give it back to you for a week! (Laughter) So be careful!
Also, don’t talk to your children when you are stressed. They will remember your transgression for a lifetime! (Laughter) So when you are tense, when you are stressed, don’t speak! Be silent. Have a glass of cold water. Stand in front of the mirror and see how you look when you are stressed and tense. A donkey looks better than you! (Laughter) Take a walk. Feel the cool breeze. If you do, then slowly you will calm down.
Now, what can you do to reduce tension during your busy work day? What can you do to relieve stress at the office?
Well, you have an iPod, so listen to Sai bhajans! As you listen to Sai bhajans, Sai will console you. When there is a problem at the office, sing ‘Daya Sagara Karunakara, Daya Sagara Karunakara’. When you sing that song, I swear in the name of Baba that you will receive Divine help. You will receive immediate help! So sing bhajans. Saibhajans create solutions for your problems.
I know of a case where a child was suffering from dysentery. This child was having fifty or sixty motions per day! If this continued, he was sure to die soon. And finally this boy turned blue! His whole body turned blue. And so the mother took this child and sat with him before Baba’s picture and started singing, ‘Sarva Jeeva Vasa Narayana, Sarva Jeeva Vasa Narayana’.
Now of course Swami saw all of this. So as the mother sang, the child started to move. He started moving his limbs, and the blue in his skin faded and his normal colour returned. All this was achieved by singing only one song! All of this happened because the mother simply started singing ‘Sarva Jeeva Vasa Narayana’.
So just remember that Sai bhajans relieve your problems, your stress, and your strain. You don’t need to pay someone to teach you to meditate to relieve your stress.
Who is the fellow who takes your money to teach you to be peaceful? He is a businessman, not a spiritual man! Why? No saint ever took money to teach meditation! The one who expects money from you is no guru at all. If he teaches you meditation and takes money for it, he is not a guru. The wind is free, the earth is free, and water is free! But your meditation classes are so costly!
So just sing Sai bhajans and you won’t have to pay anything to get immediate relief. Immediate relief! These bhajans are more powerful than penicillin or Zandu Balm! Do you understand me? So Sai bhajans are the way to relieve stress and strain. (Applause) That’s why I have invited our brothers here to sing today—so you won’t have stress and I won’t have strain! (Laughter)
Since Swami is everywhere, is there a need to go to Puttaparthi?
If God is everywhere, then why do you go to the temple? You can sleep in any room, so why do you need a bedroom? (Laughter) You can cook in the veranda or on the street, so why do you need a kitchen?
Baba is everywhere. He is like a current which exists everywhere all at once. His energy and power are omnipresent. But Puttaparthi is like a thermal power station. It is like a power station from which the energy is sent forth out into the world. And so you come here. You come to be near that source of Divine energy.
Swami’s ending is hard to accept because of the way He left. We did not expect Him to go that way! What are your comments please?
Okay, so we did not expect Him to leave like that. But neither did we expect Him to arrive in the way He did!
He was born in the early hours. Why not in the daytime? Why not in the afternoon? When He was born, musical instruments began to play. Why? When He was born, a cobra was found near His body. Why? In spirituality, to ask “Why?” isn’t helpful because the explanations are beyond earthly reasoning, beyond the rational, beyond the scope of our logic. So God is beyond mind and reason.
Then about Baba’s withdrawal, He gave us 27 days’ time to adjust, while He remained in the hospital. Actually, I don’t believe that Baba was in the hospital for 27 days. I don’t believe that! His body was there in the hospital, but He was ‘touring’ elsewhere—maybe Singapore, (Laughter) China, Taiwan, or America—wherever His devotees are!
“Why do you say that? Are we fools to believe you?” Some double fools may think like that.
This is my reply: Our students and staff, who saw Swami at close quarters, reported that His body was softer than rose petals, softer than butter! How could such a soft form withstand so many needles poking into His body? His Feet were so tender that when those who were present pressed them, the press marks remained on His Feet! Then how do you expect Him to cope with the ventilator and all the other kind of treatment?
So my answer is always this: Baba was showing, “Come on! Do whatever you can with this body, but I know when to go! You cannot fix My timetable! All ‘arrivals’ and ‘departures’ are in My hands! (Laughter) So even My departure is in My Hands! So you can use any instrument, or give any number of injections for any number of days—I won’t be bothered.” Then He simply left the body there in the hospital like that, while He went on visiting everybody!
Perhaps it was to give time for us to withstand the shock of His departure from the body. Had He left immediately in one day, perhaps thousands would have also left this planet. Thousands could have died in shock! So, as Baba’s devotees are spread all over the world, time was needed to prepare the devotees to receive this huge shock.
Then, lakhs of people came there to see His body. There were no accommodations, no food, no shelter (as so many were here). Simply they were all lined up watching. So if Swami left the body immediately when He fell sick, all these people would have left for heaven, not remaining further here on earth!
So my friends, two points are clear: First, He has withdrawn as per His decision, in spite of all medical treatment. And second, He was not there in the body in the hospital. He gave His body to the doctors for treatment, while He went around visiting everybody.
That visitor, that global visitor, that cosmic visitor, that real Sai, which is super-consciousness is ever-present as Sat-chit-ananda. That’s the true Sathya Sai Baba! (Applause)
Who is a living guru now that Swami has left His form? Do we need a living guru?
Guru has no birth and no death! Teachers are born, and teachers die; but guru has neither birth nor death. Shirdi Bhagavan is Jagadguru. Shirdi Bhagavan is Sadguru. What did He say? He said that His bones will speak, that His tomb will speak! The moment you enter Shirdi, all of your problems are solved.
And what did Baba say? “Puttaparthi is verily heaven on earth!” That’s what Baba said! He said, “The moment you come here, I shall wipe all your tears of grief so that you will shed only tears of joy and jubilation thereafter! Leave all your burden at My Feet! Go back filled with ananda!” That’s what Baba said.
So Baba has not ‘left’ because He never ‘came’. He has always been ever-present!

He has no beginning,
He has no end.
He is not born to die,
Nor can He be put to death.
He is eternal!
Sadguru is the Reality, Sadguru is Existence.
Sadguru is not mortal, but immortal.
That’s what we have to understand! (Applause)
Yesterday you asked us to forget Prema Sai and just concentrate on Sathya Sai, but there are many who have been contemporaries of both Shirdi and Sathya Sai. Some of us have also dreamt of living to experience both Sathya Sai and Prema Sai. Is there any chance that this dream might come true?
Don’t dream and don’t listen to dreamers! Don’t believe dreamers. Dreamers spread rumours. They create gossip and vain talk. Never believe that! It is utter nonsense. Dreams are individual, just for the dreamer, and should never be generalised.
Prema Sai is the future, and that future is not yet here. You are here now, in the present, while Prema Sai comes in future. Future is uncertain, so live in the present. Why do you think of Prema Sai? Live in the moment, never live in the future. And never live in the past. Past is dead. Past is history, while future is mystery.
So, present is life. Live in the present. In the present, here and now, is Sathya Sai Baba! That is what I want you to understand. (Applause)
