Hace doce años, recuerdo, tuvimos una reunión de la gente de Bukkapatnam aquí en este templo, en relación con la puesta en marcha de una Escuela Superior en esta ciudad. La Escuela se inició y, a partir de entonces he venido muchas veces, pero, cada vez, ya que la escuela está fuera de la ciudad, he estado viniendo a las afueras solamente!
Me alegro de haber llegado de nuevo a la ciudad hoy en día, ha este mismo templo para encender otra luz, para beneficio de este lugar.
El grupo de jóvenes que recogieron los fondos necesarios para la iluminación de este antiguo Templo de Lakshmi-Narayana, luchó duro en realidad, ya que su informe así lo indica. Después de todo, un solo donante dedicado podría haber terminado el trabajo. El templo es el depósito de Sanatana Dharma, es el corazón y el alma de un pueblo.
En días pasados, un recién llegado le preguntaba: "¿Tiene usted un templo en este pueblo?" Y, si la respuesta es "No", pasará a otro pueblo que tenga uno. Hoy, sin embargo, la cuestión se ha convertido en: "Usted tiene una sala de cine en este pueblo?" La conservación y promoción de todas las instituciones y costumbres tradicionales y los hábitos se han convertido en imprescindible y me alegro de que en este lugar, los jóvenes han tomado la iniciativa y están demostrando ser buenos ejemplos para los ancianos.

The Inner Temple…
All that He whispered, all that He uttered and all that He declared are nothing but Truth…Sathya Sai Speaks series have been His supreme benediction to humanity, extemporaneous words of Wisdom for man to listen and follow. Read on such a Divine Discourse with rare sparks of Divine Wisdom, delivered at Puttaparthi’s neighbouring town – Bukkapatnam on 18th July 1961, where Little Sathya had His initial education.
Twelve years ago, I remember, we had a gathering of the people of Bukkapatnam here in this Temple, in connection with the starting of a Higher School for this town. The School was started and, thereafter I have come often but, every time, since the School is outside the town, I have been coming to the outskirts only! I am glad I have again come into the town today, to this very Temple in order to light another lamp, for the benefit of this place.
The group of young men who collected the funds, needed for the illumination of this ancient Temple of Lakshmi-Narayana, struggled hard indeed, as their report indicates. After all, a single devoted donor could have finished the job. The Temple is the repository of Sanathana Dharma; it is the heart and soul of a village. In former days, a newcomer would ask, “Have you a Temple in this village?” and, if the answer is “No,” he will go on to some other village which has one. Today, however, the question has become, “Have you a cinema hall in this village?” The conservation and promotion of all the traditional institutions and customs and habits have become imperative and I am glad that in this place, the young men have taken the lead and are proving good examples to the elders.

Voy a encender las luces eléctricas, en algunos momentos pero, recuerda, no es el Señor en el Templo que necesita iluminación, es el adorador. Este templo material de piedra y mortero puede ser iluminado por medio de pocas lámparas, pero todo el mundo realmente hablando, es un templo en movimiento con el Señor instalado en el santuario del corazón. Ese santuario tiene que brillar, brillante y claro, ahora se sumerge en la oscuridad de la mentira, la injusticia, la crueldad y el orgullo, sino que está infestado por venenosos rapaces nocturnos. La iluminación de esta estructura no es más que un símbolo de la iluminación del corazón, la destrucción de la oscuridad de Ahamkara(ego) y ajñana(ignorancia) para que el Señor se manifieste en toda su gloria.
Últimamente, se ha generado en todas partes progreso en el campo material, los esquemas y planes para aumentar la prosperidad y comodidad. Las escuelas, los hospitales y las fábricas se multiplican por todas partes, pero no hay paz en el corazón del hombre o de la sociedad. Esto es porque, no ha habido ningún aumento correspondiente en la conducta del hombre. Un palo ayudará a un hombre a pararse y a inclinarse, pero ¿para que le sirve, a una persona cuyas piernas ya no existen? La prosperidad material es el palo y la virtud, la fortaleza de los pies.
Últimamente, se ha generado en todas partes progreso en el campo material, los esquemas y planes para aumentar la prosperidad y comodidad. Las escuelas, los hospitales y las fábricas se multiplican por todas partes, pero no hay paz en el corazón del hombre o de la sociedad. Esto es porque, no ha habido ningún aumento correspondiente en la conducta del hombre. Un palo ayudará a un hombre a pararse y a inclinarse, pero ¿para que le sirve, a una persona cuyas piernas ya no existen? La prosperidad material es el palo y la virtud, la fortaleza de los pies.
El problema es que el conocimiento está creciendo, pero no su sabiduría. Hay una infección del cinismo, envidia y la vanidad en todas partes. El hombre se ha convertido en el esclavo de la pasión y el orgullo. Él deja que su mente lo arrastre dondequiera que escucha, aunque la palabra hombre, significa "el que tiene el control sobre manas (mentte)".
El control de la mente se puede lograr a través de la disciplina espiritual y la formación. Para eliminar la suciedad de un paño blanco, el dhobi, se empapa en agua, se pone en escamas de jabón, calienta el agua y se golpea sobre una piedra. No significa que sea blanco, es blanco. Él sólo elimina la falta de blancura de un determinado proceso. Así también, el Jiva es puro, pero, tiene sucia. Tiene que ser remojados en buena conducta y carácter puro; enjabonado con la meditación sobre Dios; calentado en Jnana o discriminación ayudado por la razón. Y golpeado en la losa de la Renuncia.
Utilizando el templo y el culto del Señor, lo hace aquí de acuerdo con los ritos tradicionales para este fin. La luz es santa y sagrada. No hagan uso indebido, pero denle su justo valor y dedíquense a actividades sagradas.

Yo estave de viaje por Uttar Pradesh desde el día 5 del mes pasado al 28 y me encontré con gente de allí, llenos de devoción y fe. Miles cada día van en peregrinación al brillo de Badri Narayana, a pesar de los gastos y los peligros y dificultades, animados por el Bhakti (devoción) que les da fuerza y valor. Cuando usted los ve, siente que el país aún está verde, que el camino de Dios y el Dharma no está abandonado y que la India está viva y fuerte.
Por otra parte, la gente de allí, aunque están lejos de Puttaparthi, hacen sentir el calor, demostrando así que estan realmente cerca, mientras que aquí sólo ven la luz y no son conscientes de la calidez. Devoción y fe son los resultados del cultivo y no mera contigüidad física. Pero, tengo que decirles una cosa, los nombres de Puttaparthi y Bukkapatnam, rodeado por estas pequeñas colinas están resonando aún en el Himalaya, y le corresponde a ustedes justificar la fama y el respeto, con una vida vivida en el amor y humildad, ganandose el respeto de todos y también estarán llenos de paz. No pidan solo alegría a la vida, pero tomen alegremente todo lo que viene a ustedes. No se puede insistir en que el médico le dé medicinas dulces. Tengan la audacia de soportar el dolor a medida que llevan alegría. Recuerde que la muerte es inevitable, que la vida no es más que un interludio, que el mundo no es más que una posada y ustedes tendrá la fuerza para avanzar a través de la peregrinación de este nacimiento.

I shall switch on the electric lights, in a few moments but, remember, it is not the Lord within the Temple that needs illumination, it is the worshipper. This material Temple of stone and mortar might be lit up by means of few bulbs, but really speaking everyone is a moving Temple with the Lord installed in the shrine of the heart. That shrine has to shine bright and clear; now it is plunged in the darkness of Falsehood, Injustice, Cruelty and Pride; it is infested by poisonous nocturnal birds of prey. The lighting of this structure is but a symbol of the illumination of the heart, the destruction of the darkness of Ahamkara and Ajnana so that the Lord might be revealed in all His Glory.
Latterly, there has been everywhere progress in the material field, schemes and plans to increase prosperity and comfort. Schools, hospitals and factories are multiplying everywhere, but, there is no peace in the heart of man or of society. This is because, there has been no corresponding increase in the moral conduct of man. A stick will help a man to walk up and incline, but of what use is it to a person whose legs have become defunct? Material prosperity is the stick and virtue the strength of the feet.
Latterly, there has been everywhere progress in the material field, schemes and plans to increase prosperity and comfort. Schools, hospitals and factories are multiplying everywhere, but, there is no peace in the heart of man or of society. This is because, there has been no corresponding increase in the moral conduct of man. A stick will help a man to walk up and incline, but of what use is it to a person whose legs have become defunct? Material prosperity is the stick and virtue the strength of the feet.
The trouble is that knowledge is growing but wisdom lags. There is an infection of envy cynicism and conceit everywhere. Man has become the slave of passion and pride. He lets his mind drag him wherever it listens, though the word Man means “He who has control over manas.”
The control of the mind can be achieved through spiritual discipline and training. To remove dirt from a white cloth, the dhobi, soaks it in water, puts in soap flakes, warms the water and beats it on a stone. He does not make it white; it is white. He only removes the non-whiteness by a certain process. So too, the Jiva is pure; but, it has got soiled. It has to be soaked in Good Conduct and Pure Character; soaped with meditation on Godhead; warmed in Jnana or Discrimination helped by Reason; and beaten on the slab of Renunciation. Use the Temple and the worship of the Lord done here as per traditional rites for this end. Light is holy, sacred. Do not misuse it for lower ends, but, give it its proper value and engage yourselves in holy pursuits.
I was away in Uttar Pradesh from the 5th of last month to the 28th and I found people there, full of devotion and faith. Thousands every day go on pilgrimage to the shine of Badri Narayana, in spite of the expense and the dangers and difficulties, animated by the Bhakti which gives them strength and courage. When you see them, you feel that the country is still green, that the path of God and Dharma is not given up and that India is alive and strong.
Moreover, the people there, though they are far away from Puttaparthi do feel the warmth, showing thereby that they are really near, while you here see only the light and are unaware of the warmth. Devotion and faith are the results of culture and not mere physical contiguity. But, I must tell you one thing; the names Puttaparthi and Bukkapatnam, surrounded by these little hills are resounding even in the Himalayas, and it is up to you to justify that fame and that respect. A life lived in love and humility will gain the respect of all and will also be full of peace. Do not ask for life only joy and happiness, but, take cheerfully all that comes to you. You cannot insist that the doctor gives you only sweet medicines. Have the hardihood to bear sorrow as resignedly as you bear joy. Remember that death is inescapable, that life is but an interlude, that the world is but a caravanserai and, you will get the strength to pass through the pilgrimage of this birth.
