Podemos escuchar una de las mejores grabaciones de sonido de voz de Mahatma Gandhi, que fue grabada el 17 de octubre de 1931 en Kingsley Hall, de Londres. Gandhi estaba de visita en Londres, en el marco de la Segunda Conferencia de Mesa Redonda para negociar un peave colonial entre Gran Bretaña y el amplio movimiento indio libertad. Fue justo antes de que él fuese encarcelado de nuevo después de la ruptura del pacto Gandhi-Irwin.
El título de esta charla fue "Mi mensaje espiritual."

"Hay un poder misterioso indefinible que lo impregna todo, yo lo siento pero no lo veo. Este es el poder invisible que se hace sentir y aún desafía toda prueba, porque es muy diferente a todo lo que percibo a través de mis sentidos. Trasciende los sentidos. Pero es posible razonar la existencia de Dios en un grado limitado. Incluso en los asuntos ordinarios sabemos que la gente no sabe que gobierna o por qué y cómo Él gobierna, y sin embargo, ellos saben que hay un poder que pone las reglas.
En mi visita el año pasado en Mysore conocí a muchos aldeanos pobres, y me encontré con la sorpresa que ellos no sabían quien gobierna Mysore. Se limitaban a decir, que un Dios gobernaba. Si el conocimiento de esta pobre gente era tan limitado sobre su gobernante, Yo que soy infinitamente menor con respecto a Dios como su gobernante, no deben sorprendernos si no se dan cuenta de la presencia de Dios - el Rey de Reyes.
Sin embargo, yo siento, que hay un orden en el universo, es una ley inmutable que rige todo y cada ser que existe o vive. No es una ley ciega, ninguna ley ciega puede regir la conducta de los seres vivos y gracias a las investigaciones maravillosas de Sir JC Bose, ahora se puede demostrar que incluso la materia es la vida.
Esa ley que gobierna toda la vida es Dios. La Ley y el dador de la ley-son uno. No puedo negar la ley o el dador de la ley, porque sé muy poco acerca de él . Solo mi negación o ignorancia de la existencia de un poder terrenal, no me servirá de nada hasta que mi negación de Dios y de su ley no me libere de su funcionamiento. La aceptación humilde y muda de la autoridad divina hace que el viaje de la vida se más fácil, ya que la aceptación de la regla hace que la vida terrenal sea más fácil. Sí perciben vagamente todo a su alrededor, está en constante cambio, siempre está muriendo, allí debajo de todo ese cambio, un poder viviente, que es inmutable, mantiene todo unido, crea, disuelve y se vuelve a crear.
Ese poder del espíritu, es Dios, y ya nada de lo que se puede ver simplemente a través de los sentidos puede o va a persistir, es sólo Él.
Y es este poder benévolo o malévolo? .Yo lo veo como puramente benévolo, porque puedo ver que en medio de la vida y de la muerte, persiste, en medio de la verdad y la mentira, persiste, en medio de las tinieblas y la luz, persiste. De ahí deduzco que Dios es la vida, la verdad, la luz. Él es amor. Él es el Bien supremo. Pero no es un Dios que sólo satisface el intelecto, si alguna vez lo hace.
Para que Dios sea Dios debe gobernar el corazón y transformarlo. Él debe expresarse en cada pequeño acto de Su devoto. Esto sólo puede hacerse a través de una realización concreta, real, que los cinco sentidos nunca puede producir. La percepciones de los sentidos pueden ser, y ha menudo son falsas y engañosas, por más real que puedan parecernos. Donde hay comprensión fuera de los sentidos es infalible.
Está comprobado por la evidencia, que la conducta transforma el carácter de aquellos que han sentido la presencia real de Dios en su interior. Ese testimonio se encuentra en las experiencias de una línea ininterrumpida de profetas y sabios de todos los países y climas. Rechazar esta evidencia es negarse a sí mismo. Esta toma de conciencia es precedida por una fe inamovible. El que quiera probar en su propia persona el hecho de la presencia de Dios, puede hacerlo mediante una fe viva y desde la fe misma, no puede ser probado por la evidencia. Lo más seguro es creer en el gobierno moral del mundo y por lo tanto en la supremacía de la la ley moral, la ley de la verdad y el amor.
El ejercicio de la fe será lo más seguro, donde hay una clara determinación a rechazar todo lo que es contrario a la verdad y el amor.
Confieso que no tengo ningún argumento para convencer a través de la razón. La fe trasciende la razón. Todo lo que puedo aconsejar es no intentar lo imposible. "

"There is an indefinable mysterious power that pervades everything, I feel it though I do not see it. It is this unseen power which makes itself felt and yet defies all proof, because it is so unlike all that I perceive through my senses. It transcends the senses. But it is possible to reason out the existence of God to a limited extent. Even in ordinary affairs we know that people do not know who rules or why and how He rules and yet they know that there is a power that certainly rules.
In my tour last year in Mysore I met many poor villagers and I found upon inquiry that they did not know who ruled Mysore. They simply said some God ruled it. If the knowledge of these poor people was so limited about their ruler I who am infinitely lesser in respect to God than they to their ruler need not be surprised if I do not realize the presence of God - the King of Kings.
Nevertheless, I do feel, as the poor villagers felt about Mysore, that there is orderliness in the universe, there is an unalterable law governing everything and every being that exists or lives. It is not a blind law, for no blind law can govern the conduct of living being and thanks to the marvelous researches of Sir J. C. Bose it can now be proved that even matter is life.
That law then which governs all life is God. Law and the law-giver are one. I may not deny the law or the law-giver because I know so little about it or Him.Just as my denial or ignorance of the existence of an earthly power will avail me nothing even so my denial of God and His law will not liberate me from its operation, whereas humble and mute acceptance of divine authority makes life's journey easier even as the acceptance of earthly rule makes life under it easier. I do dimly perceive that whilst everything around me is ever changing, ever dying there is underlying all that change a living power that is changeless, that holds all together, that creates, dissolves and recreates.
That informing power of spirit is God, and since nothing else that I see merely through the senses can or will persist, He alone is. And is this power benevolent or malevolent ? I see it as purely benevolent, for I can see that in the midst of death life persists, in the midst of untruth truth persists, in the midst of darkness light persists. Hence I gather that God is life, truth, light. He is love. He is the supreme Good. But He is no God who merely satisfies the intellect, if He ever does.
God to be God must rule the heart and transform it. He must express himself in every smallest act of His votary. This can only be done through a definite realization, more real than the five senses can ever produce. Sense perceptions can be and often are false and deceptive, however real they may appear to us. Where there is realization outside the senses it is infallible.
It is proved not by extraneous evidence but in the transformed conduct and character of those who have felt the real presence of God within. Such testimony is to be found in the experiences of an unbroken line of prophets and sages in all countries and climes. To reject this evidence is to deny oneself. This realization is preceded by an immovable faith. He who would in his own person test the fact of God's presence can do so by a living faith and since faith itself cannot be proved by extraneous evidence the safest course is to believe in the moral government of the world and therefore in the supremacy of the moral law, the law of truth and love.
Exercise of faith will be the safest where there is a clear determination summarily to reject all that is contrary to truth and love. I confess that I have no argument to convince through reason. Faith transcends reason. All that I can advise is not to attempt the impossible."
