En un satsang que tuvo lugar en la presencia divina en California, EE.UU., el 19 de junio de 2016, un joven solicita orientación sobre cómo mantener una buenas compañías en su vida.

Y esto es lo que dijo Swami:

Pregunta: (preguntado por un joven Sai) Swami, sé que hablas de tener buena compañía todo el tiempo y de diferenciar entre lo bueno y lo malo. Mi pregunta es que todos tienen buenas y malas compañías; Entonces, ¿cómo sabemos cuándo tenemos que sacar a alguien de nuestra vida, porque es una 'mala compañía' y nos están influyendo para mal, y cómo debemos rodearnos de buenas compañías?

Mi segunda pregunta es, estoy tratando de averiguar qué hacer con mi vida y cómo puedo ayudar a otras personas. Hay tantos devotos Sai que han ido a grandes instituciones y que han dejado sus puestos de trabajo, sólo para estar en su servicio a tiempo completo. Podría, por favor decirme cual es el camino correcto es para mí? ¿Cómo puedo ser parte de su misión?

Y lo siento, una última cosa, mi padre está aquí y está muy enfermo. Puede usted por favor bendecirlo para que todo salga bien? Gracias. (Aplausos)

Swami: No lo sientas. Está bien. Usted tienes el derecho de pedirle a Swami y no se arrepentirá de ello.

Que es bueno y que es malo.? Lo que le lleva hacia Dios es bueno. Lo que aleja su mente lejos de Dios es malo. Usted sabe quién le está ayudando a pensar en Dios y quién no le está ayudando a pensar en Dios. Comprensiblemente, deberías estar en compañía de aquellos que te están ayudando a pensar en Dios. Si hay más jóvenes como usted que están interesados en el servicio, hablando de cosas buenas, y encontrando y trabajando sobre buenas causas, deberían buscar su compañía. Los que dicen "vamos a este espectáculo" o "vamos a ese concierto", pierden su tiempo, dinero y energía. Debes mantener cierta distancia de ellos. Quienquiera que sea, joven o viejo, los que te ayudan a pensar en Dios son buenos, y debes nutrirte de su compañía.

Sobre su trabajo y educación, todo tiene una razón en la vida. (Refiriéndose a Su séquito) Todas las personas sentadas en este escenario podrían servirme porque son educadas y experimentadas. Conocen su trabajo y comprenden lo que se espera de ellos. Por lo tanto, cuando sea el momento adecuado, haya terminado sus estudios y haya trabajado durante algún tiempo en la sociedad, comprenderá cómo hacer las cosas. Entonces, será de mucho más servicio para Mí.

Cuando tienes un lápiz, puedes escribir con él fácilmente. Si tiene la punta rota e intenta escribir con él, no será legible. Sin embargo, si lo afinas un poco, puede escribir bien. Toda tu educación, trabajo, asociaciones y experiencias te ayudarán a ser fuerte. Sé afilado para que puedas ejecutar tareas difíciles para Swami.

Entonces, ¿cómo miras tu vida? Míralo de esta manera: "Mi educación debería ayudarme a servir a la sociedad. Mi trabajo debería ayudarme, en última instancia, a servir a la sociedad. Mis asociaciones, mis relaciones deberían ayudarme a acercarme a Dios. Todo lo que hago debería ayudarme a moverme hacia Dios. Si eso me ayuda, es bueno, y debo seguir haciéndolo. Si no es así, debería dejarlo.

Cuando esté listo, Swami definitivamente te dará la oportunidad de hacer Su trabajo, pero hasta entonces, debe prepararse. Para las manos, desarrolla buenas habilidades; para la cabeza, buena inteligencia y comprensión; y para el corazón, mucho amor y compasión. Cuando la cabeza, el corazón y la mano estén listos, vendré y recogeré el instrumento y lo usaré de la manera que desee. Debes orar por eso.

Su padre lo está haciendo mejor que antes. Él estará bien. Pídale que deje de preocuparse. Él se preocupa por ti y eso es lo que está haciendo que su salud se deteriore. Si deja de preocuparse, mejorará más rápido.

Question: (asked by a Sai youth) Swami, I know You talk about having good company all the time and to differentiate between good and bad. My question is, everybody has good and bad in them; so, how do we know when we need to take someone out of our life because they are ‘bad company’ and they are influencing us and that we should surround ourselves with good company?

My second question is, I am trying to figure out what to do with my life and how I can help other people. There are so many Sai devotees who have gone to great institutions and have left their jobs, just to be in Your service full-time. Could You please advise what the right path is for me? How can I be a part of Your mission?

And sorry, one last thing, my father is here and he is very ill. Can You please bless him so that everything goes well? Thank You. (Applause)

Swami: Don’t be sorry. It is alright. You have the right to ask Swami and do not be sorry about it.

What is good and what is bad? That which takes you go towards God is good. That which takes your mind away from God is bad. You know who is helping you think of God and who is not helping you think of God. Understandably, you should be in the company of those who are helping you think of God. If there are more youths like you who are interested in seva, in talking about good things, in meeting and working on good causes, you must seek their company. Those who say, “Let us go to this show,” or “Let’s go to that concert,” waste your time, money and energy. You must keep some distance away from them. Whoever it might be, young or old, those who help you think of God are good, and you must nurture their company.

About your work and education, everything has a reason in life. (Referring to His entourage) All the people sitting on this stage could be of service to Me because they are educated and experienced. They know their work and understand what is expected of them. Therefore, when your time is right – you have finished your studies and have worked for some time in society – you will understand how to do things. Then, you will be of much more service to Me.

When you have a pencil, you can write with it easily. If it has a broken tip and you try to write with it, it won’t be legible. However, if you sharpen it a bit, it can write well. All your education, work, associations and experiences will help you become sharp. Be sharp so that you can execute difficult tasks for Swami.

So, how do you look at your life? Look at it this way: ‘My education should help me to serve society. My job should help me, ultimately, to serve society. My associations, my relations should help me to go closer to God. Everything that I do should help me move towards God. If that helps me, it is good, and I must continue doing it. If it doesn’t, I should drop it off.’

When you are ready, Swami will definitely give you an opportunity to do His work, but until then, you have to prepare yourself. For the hands, develop good skills; for the head, good intelligence and understanding; and for the heart, a lot of love and compassion. When the head, heart and hand are ready, I will come and pick up the instrument and use it the way I want. You must pray for it.

Your father is doing better than before. He will be fine. Ask him to stop worrying. He worries about you and that is what is causing his health to deteriorate. If he stops worrying, he will improve faster.
