En un satsang que tuvo lugar en la presencia divina en Suffolk, Reino Unido, el 2 de abril de 2016, un devoto preguntó cómo retener a los jóvenes que participan en el servicio.

Y esto es lo que dijo Swami:

Pregunta: Tengo una pregunta acerca de nuestra voluntad de servir y hacer algo que Swami nos pida. Me resulta muy difícil y extraño que nuestra juventud italiana se emocione mucho, porque es un viaje de 2-3 días, en ese momento, cuando se trata de la continuidad y mantenerse unidos, fácilmente se comprometen, incluso Swami  les encanta mucho . 
¿Qué podemos hacer para que se sientan emocionados y mantenerlos trabajando 24 horas al día? Cuando todos vuelven a casa, dicen: "Ahora tengo que cuidar a mi familia; Tengo mi trabajo; Tengo mi tienda; Tengo un restaurante; Me he enamorado de alguien. No puedo darte ninguna atención durante seis meses. "Siento esta inquietud dentro. No puedo descansar, porque Swami dijo que necesitamos estar listos, necesitamos hacer algo, pero los jóvenes responden: "Tenemos que trabajar seis meses en nosotros mismos, para que podamos descansar por seis meses". ¿ Qué hacer?

Swami: Lo primero que hay que entender es que cada persona es diferente. El hecho de que sea un grupo de jóvenes, esto no significa que todos los jóvenes son iguales. Ellos han llegado a través de muchos nacimientos; sus samskaras, sus ideas, sus gustos - todos estos son el resultado de muchos nacimientos. En esta sala, hay muchas personas sentadas. Físicamente, podrían ser mayores o menores, pero sé cual su verdadera edad. Yo sé la edad del alma dentro, de la edad de la mente. Devoto: Nuestros devotos mayores de 40 años son siempre entusiasta.

Swami: Por lo tanto, hay que pensar así. Abrir el foro para todos; sólo aquellos que tienen hambre, que están dispuestos en mente y cuerpo, va a continuar. Para algunos, se trata de una cuestión de unos pocos días, pero, aun asi , lo que han hecho, al menos les ha dado una idea de servicio. Cuando en realidad se cansen de toda la mundanidad y busquen la felicidad, ellos vendrán a usted por su propia voluntad. Mantenga la siembra de las semillas; algunos árboles crecerán inmediatamente; algunas plantas tardarán tiempo para crecer. Cada uno va a crecer a su tiempo, como líderes de la juventud, su trabajo es ir sembrando la semilla en cada corazón. Depende de ellos cuando van a germinar como una planta, crecer como un árbol y dar sus frutos , pero, debe continuar su trabajo. Eso es lo que debe hacer.

No se debe ver el resultado de una manera física. Siempre he dicho que no es la cantidad, sino la calidad del servicio que hace, lo que realmente importa. Si va a servir un millar de personas sin corazón y sin amor, y lo siente como una carga, ese no es servicio.

Incluso si usted sirve a una sola persona con todo su amor y atención, el servicio es mucho más valioso para su transformación. Su tarea es dar una oportunidad a todos para venir, escuchar, participar y decidir si continuar o no. Aquellos cuyo momento ha llegado, que están listos, que están maduros, sin duda tomarán la iniciativa, al igual que usted. Los que no, al menos sabrán, que hay una manera de que puedan seguir adelante, y cuando llegue su tiempo, van a volver y acercarse. Confía en mí, ningún esfuerzo se desperdicia. En algún lugar, una huella ha quedado hecho en sus mentes, las cuales permanecerán con ellos. En el momento adecuado, va a florecer. Por lo tanto, no se desanime por la cantidad que se unen, cuántos, o por cuánto tiempo.

Devoto: Después de la Conferencia Mundial de la Juventud, pensé que todo el mundo iba a saltar de alegría y participar en seva, trabajando juntos, pero fue un poco diferente. Algunos de los ancianos físicamente están siempre dispuestos a venir y tener satsangs y hacer proyectos juntos, así que seguiré organizando satsangs?

Swami: Sí, sigue teniendo satsangs. Ese es su deber. Nunca se puede saber quién lo tomará de qué manera y quién se presentará. Las personas que menos esperabas, podrían ser las más involucradas. Las personas de las que más esperabas, no lo harán. Nunca sabes cómo va a ocurrir, así que sigue haciendo tu trabajo. La juventud es una época tal que, de alguna manera, la regla del universo es que olvides todo lo que has hecho en el pasado. Crees que el mundo es un lugar nuevo, cada vez que tomas un nuevo nacimiento.

Siempre doy el ejemplo de un pez en un estanque - se olvida cada cinco minutos donde se encuentra, piensa que está en un nuevo estanque y comienza a explorar de nuevo. Eso le mantiene excitado y termina su vida en el estanque. Del mismo modo, el hombre nace de nuevo, olvidando lo que ha hecho en el pasado y, de nuevo, quiere experimentar todo lo que hay que saber. Sin embargo, cada vez que sale a través de este ciclo, su memoria y la intuición empezaran a mejorar. Reconoce que hizo algo antes y que no le dio la alegría permanente, por lo que no debe involucrarse en ello de nuevo. Después de muchos de estos nacimientos, es que han llegado a esta etapa. De la misma manera, a su propio tiempo, van a llegar allí. No te apures.

In a satsang held in the divine presence at Suffolk, UK, on 2 April, 2016, a devotee asked how to keep the youth engaged in service.

And here is what Swami said:

Question: I have a question about our will to serve and do something which Swami gives us. I find it extremely challenging and strange, that our Italian Youth get very excited, because it is a 2-3 days’ journey but then, when it is about continuity and keeping united, they easily get stuck, even if they love Swami very much. What can we do to make them feel excited and keep them working 24 hours a day? When everyone returns home, they say, “Now I have my family to care for; I have my job; I have my shop; I have a restaurant; I have just fallen in love with somebody. I can’t give you any attention for six months.” I feel this restlessness inside. I can’t rest, because Swami said that we need to be ready, we need to do something, but the youth respond, “We have to work six months on ourselves, so that we can rest for six months.” What can we do?

Swami: The first thing you must understand is that each person is different. Just because it is the youth age group, it does not mean that all youth are equal. They have come through many births; their samskaras, their ideas, their likes – all these are the result of many births. In this room, there are so many people sitting. Physically, they might be older or younger, but I know their true age. I know how old the soul within is, how old the mind is. Therefore, even though they look like young people on the outside, it does not mean they are really all young or of the same age as each other. There is a lot of difference in the make-up of their minds and how ancient their souls are. Therefore, don’t simply go by physical youth; there might be more young people in old bodies, than in young bodies here.

Devotee: Our devotees aged over 40 are always enthusiastic.

Swami: Therefore, you have to think like that. Open the forum to all; only those who have the hunger, who are ready in their mind and body, will continue. For others, it is a matter of a few days – but, what you have done has still given them a taste of service. When they really grow weary of all the worldliness and look for happiness, they will come to you of their own accord. Keep sowing the seeds; some trees will grow immediately; some plants will take time to grow. Each one will grow in its season, but as youth leaders, your job is to go on sowing the seed in every heart. It depends on them when it will germinate as a plant, grow into a tree and bear fruit – but, you must continue your work. That is what you should do.

You should not look at the result in a physical way. I have always said that it is not the quantity, but the quality of service that you do, that really matters. If you serve a thousand people with no heart and no love, and feel it as a burden, that is no service at all.

Even if you serve just one person with all your love and attention, that service is far more valuable for your transformation. Your task is to give an opportunity for all to come, listen, participate and choose to continue or not. Those whose time has come, who are ready, who are ripe, will definitely take the lead, like you. Those who are not, will at least know, that there is a way that they can go forward and, when their time arrives, they will come back and approach you. Trust Me, no effort goes to waste. Somewhere, a little impression has been made on their minds, which will stay with them. At the right time, it will flourish. So, do not be disheartened by how many join, how many don’t or for how long.

Devotee: After the World Youth Conference, I thought everybody was going to jump for joy and take part in seva, working together, but it was a bit different. Some of the physically elderly are always willing to come and have satsangs and do projects together, so shall I keep going around organizing satsangs?

Swami: Yes, keep having satsangs. That is your duty. You can never tell who will take it in what way and who will come forward. People whom you least expected might be the most involved. People of whom you expected the most may not even be seen. You never know how it will go, so keep doing your work. Youth is an age such that, somehow, the rule of the universe is that you forget all that you have done in the past. You think the world is a new place, every time you take a new birth.

I always give the example of a fish in a pond – it forgets every five minutes where it is, thinks it is in a new pond and starts exploring again. It keeps him excited and it finishes off its life in the pond. Similarly, man is born again, forgets what he has done in the past and, again, wants to experience everything there is to know. However, every time he goes through this cycle, his memory and intuition start improving. He recognizes that he did something before and it didn’t give him permanent joy, so he should not get involved in it again. After many such births you have come to this stage. In the same way, in their own time, they will get there. Do not be in a hurry.
