En un satsang que tuvo lugar en la presencia divina en Singapur, el 3 de febrero de 2017, un devoto preguntó cuál es la diferencia entre la confianza en sí mismo y el ego.

Y esto es lo que dijo Swami:

Pregunta: Swami, ¿cuál es la diferencia entre la confianza en sí mismo y el ego?

Swami: La confianza está dentro del Ser - tu verdadero Ser o Yo Divino, que es la Divinidad dentro de ti. El ego es la confianza en el cuerpo y la mente que usted tiene. Cuando piensas que eres capaz a causa de tu cuerpo, mente e inteligencia, es ego. Mientras que si usted piensa: "Soy capaz de cualquier cosa sólo porque es el Divino que respira a través de mí, que hace digerir la comida, que hace que la sangre fluya, que las manos se muevan, que los ojos vean, que los oídos oigan, que la lengua hable y que el gusto se saboree, eso es la confianza en sí mismo. Si piensas que un nombre en particular está unido al cuerpo, entonces es ego. Si atribuyes tu trabajo a Dios, eso es autoconfianza, pero si atribuyes tu trabajo al sentimiento de que es a través de tu propio esfuerzo, eso es ego.

Muchas personas dicen a otros que usted puede construir confianza en sí mismo por convertirse en educado, por el aprendizaje de nuevas habilidades, y así sucesivamente - pero, confianza en sí mismo es verdaderamente confianza en Dios y en el verdadero Ser. Todo lo demás es ego. 

Lo que está sucediendo en todas las instituciones y universidades alrededor del mundo, es que la gente está diciendo: "Oh, tú eres así y así; Usted es capaz de tal y tal ". Eso es mimos el ego, no la construcción de confianza en sí mismo.

In a satsang held in the divine presence at Singapore, on 3 February, 2017, a devotee asked what is the difference between self-confidence and ego.

And here is what Swami said:

Question: Swami, what is the difference between self-confidence and ego?

Swami: Confidence is within the Self – your true Self or Divine Self, which is the Divinity within you. Ego is confidence in the body and the mind that you have. When you think that you are capable because of your body, mind and intelligence, it is ego. Whereas, when you think, ‘I am capable of anything only because it is the Divine who breathes through me, who makes the food digest, who makes the blood flow, hands move, eyes see, ears hear, tongue speak and taste, then that is self-confidence. If you think that a particular name is attached to the body, then it is ego. If you attribute your work to God, that is self-confidence, but if you attribute your work to the feeling that it is through your own effort, that is ego.

Many people tell others that you can build self-confidence by becoming educated, learning new skills, and so on – but, self-confidence is truly confidence in God and in the real Self. Everything else is ego. What is happening in all of the institutions and colleges around the world, is that people are saying, “Oh, you are so and so; you are capable of such and such.” That is pampering the ego, not building self-confidence.
