Los dos oradores fueron el Dr. Samuel Sandweiss, un psiquiatra en ejercicio, autor de algunos libros de la literatura Sai más popular y un devoto de mucho tiempo. de San Diego, California, EE.UU.
Seguido por Swami Suddhananda Giri de Yogoda Satsanga Society, fundada por el venerado Paramahamsa Sri Lanka Yogananda, un reconocido maestro espiritual, autor de la obra de arte, Autobiografía de un Yogui.
El Dr. Sandweiss con su temperamento científico y psiquiátrica, había mostrado gran interés en la Divinidad de Bhagavan y por lo tanto fue oportunamente recompensada con destellos raros de qué y quién es ... Narro su experiencia como psiquiatra joven, encontrándose con un extraño hombre perdido, que era incoherente, sucio, viviendo en la calle, con quemaduras del 70% de su cuerpo. Perplejo ante el extraño que lo miraba, el joven psiquiatra en él quería apartarse y escapar de la situación, y fue sorprendido por un noble pensamiento, "Esto debe ser Swami", y el resto de la historia se volvió un cuento de amor, donde el joven psiquiatra experimento un amor inusual hacia el extranjero, tratando de ver a Swami en él.

Continuando con el coloquio, "experiencia de lo divino - de la forma a lo informe", dos programas fueron designados para la sesión de la tarde del 23 de abril de 2012. El primero fue un discurso académico de Sri J. Jayaraman del Ramanashram, seguido por una obra de los jóvenes de Organización Sri Sathya Sai de Odisha, "Una peregrinación a mí mismo."
Sri Jayaraman dio una exposición académica profundizando en las verdades filosóficas. Realizo sus saludos a la auto-refulgente luz de Bhagavan Sri Sathya Sai Baba, el orador habló de sus experiencias internas. Sri Jayaraman opinó que no se puede esperar que la forma este siempre. Un incidente de un joven, que pone los pelos de punta, fue narrado. El joven, que fue confinado a una silla de ruedas, se curó de su discapacidad, cuando tuvo la visión de Bhagavan en su sueño.
Un niño de nombre Gangu, se reduce a la miseria, debido a la pobreza. Su estado llegó a ser tan patético, que tomó un pan de un cubo de la basura para saciar su hambre. Como resultado de ello, perdió su salud y se enfermó. Los jóvenes de Organización Sri Sathya Sai, proporcionaron alimentos y refugio. El niño se curo, pero no quiere volver con sus padres. Por lo tanto, es enviado a un hogar para niños a cargo de la organización.
Otro incidente revelador es de un preso que se transformo después de conocer ha Bhagavan y es exonerado y liberado de la cárcel dos años antes de su finalización del plazo, por su buena conducta, este fue el punto culminante del drama. Su Excelencia el Gobernador de Andhra Pradesh, Sri ESL Narasimhan fue el invitado principal para la ocasión.
El programa fue iniciado a las 08.00 horas. con el canto del Rudram, seguido de Guru Vandana, y una ofrenda musical a cargo de los estudiantes del Instituto Sri Sathya Sai de Educación Superior.

La primera actuación fue por el aclamado artista de la música carnática Bombay Jayashri. La segunda presentación fue por Ayaan Ali Khan, el hijo menor del Maestro Sarod Amjad Ali Khan.
Bombay Jayashri arrancó su recital con la canción Jagadisha Sureesha ... y siguió con Gopala Gokula Vallabheeyam ... y luego la canción que afectó con los acordes a todos los corazones, la melodiosa Vuyyala Luguma Sri Sathya Sai ... Continuando con el coloquio, "experiencia de lo divino - de la forma a lo informe", dos programas fueron designados para la sesión de la tarde del 23 de abril de 2012. El primero fue un discurso académico de Sri J. Jayaraman del Ramanashram, seguido por una obra de los jóvenes de Organización Sri Sathya Sai de Odisha, "Una peregrinación a mí mismo."
Sri Jayaraman dio una exposición académica profundizando en las verdades filosóficas. Realizo sus saludos a la auto-refulgente luz de Bhagavan Sri Sathya Sai Baba, el orador habló de sus experiencias internas. Sri Jayaraman opinó que no se puede esperar que la forma este siempre. Un incidente de un joven, que pone los pelos de punta, fue narrado. El joven, que fue confinado a una silla de ruedas, se curó de su discapacidad, cuando tuvo la visión de Bhagavan en su sueño.
Un niño de nombre Gangu, se reduce a la miseria, debido a la pobreza. Su estado llegó a ser tan patético, que tomó un pan de un cubo de la basura para saciar su hambre. Como resultado de ello, perdió su salud y se enfermó. Los jóvenes de Organización Sri Sathya Sai, proporcionaron alimentos y refugio. El niño se curo, pero no quiere volver con sus padres. Por lo tanto, es enviado a un hogar para niños a cargo de la organización.
Otro incidente revelador es de un preso que se transformo después de conocer ha Bhagavan y es exonerado y liberado de la cárcel dos años antes de su finalización del plazo, por su buena conducta, este fue el punto culminante del drama. Su Excelencia el Gobernador de Andhra Pradesh, Sri ESL Narasimhan fue el invitado principal para la ocasión.

Acogiendo con beneplácito, al invitado principal, su Excelencia el Gobernador de Andhra Pradesh, ESL Narasimhan, y otros distinguidos invitados, devotos y estudiantes, y todos los presidentes de la de Org. El primer orador fue Sri Sai Giridhar, un becario de investigación, que también es un orador experimentado y versátil actor del Instituto Sri Sathya Sai de Educación Superior y el segundo en hacer frente a la reunión, fue el elocuente orador, el Dr. G. Venkataraman, un físico de renombre , quinto Vicerrector de Instituto Sri Sathya Sai de Educación Superior y en la actualidad director de Radio Sai Global Harmony.

Al hablar sobre el propósito de un Avatar, Sri Giridhar opinó, Bhagavan vino a establecer Prema Dharma, para establecer el amor en los corazones de los devotos. Prasanthi Nilayam witnessed a festival of difference, Sri Sathya Sai Aradhana Mahotsavam, a celebration in commemoration of the ascent of the Avatar of the Age – Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba on 23rd, 24th and 25th April 2012. It was on the 24th of April last year that Bhagawan moved on from the physical plane of existence, to become the subtler omnipresence all-pervading reality. The festivity for three days was attended by thousands of devotees from all around the world and was marked with speeches and cultural programmes.
On the 23rd April morning, the programme commenced with a colloquium on the theme “Experiencing the Divine – From the Form to the Formless”. The two speakers were Dr. Samuel Sandweiss, a practising psychiatrist, author of some of the most popular Sai literature and a long time devotee from San Diego, California, USA followed by Swami Suddhananda Giri of Yogoda Satsanga Society, founded by revered Sri Sri Paramahamsa Yogananda, a renowned spiritual master who authored the masterpiece, Autobiography of a Yogi.
Dr. Sandweiss with his scientific and psychiatric temperament had evinced keen interest in Bhagawan’s Divinity and thus was aptly rewarded with rare glimpses of What and Who He Is… And the day’s talk was a reflection of what he deciphered over the years from his close association with Bhagawan. His speech was a testimony as to how the professional psychiatrist and devotee in him is able to correlate many of Bhagawan’s teachings, that was imparted in person, to the current situation overcoming the big puzzle of Bhagawan’s physical absence, embracing His omnipresence.
Reflecting on the given theme, Divine Omnipresence of Bhagawan, Dr. Sandweiss began with the Oneness Principle often repeated by Bhagawan, where all becomes One in the ‘I’ of Sai. Experiencing Divinity from form to formlessness is to experience and celebrate Swami’s all-embracing love that brings us together as one family. Elucidating on the theme He spoke on the subject based on facts of his own experience with Bhagawan spanning over four decades. About the aspect of “Formlessness”, he said, “my understanding of the formless is that it is infinite silence, eternal peace, emptiness of desires and attachments: pure love, which is everything”.
Quoting Bhagawan, “Everything is Nothing and Nothing is Everything”, the speaker claimed there is no separation, there is only One and that One is Everything, that One is Love. The answer to the question Who am I comes from Swami’s omnipresent love. By turning and tuning to Him, by practising His teachings of love and service, we enter into Him realizing the Truth of So Hum..So Hum…I am He…I am He…
Living seven seas apart from the physical presence of the Avatar the speaker had experienced His omnipresence many a time while engaged in service activities. …And the biggest lesson he learnt was to look for Him everywhere, to find Him every in everyone, that would finally help to find our own self.
Remembering Swami at all situations, trying to envision Him in everyone one could attain a miraculous transformation, turning bondage to freedom, said the speaker narrating his experience as a young psychiatrist, meeting up with a strange, weathered, wasted man who was incoherent, dirty picked up on the street with 70% burns on his body. Perplexed at the oddity staring at him when the young psychiatrist in him wanted to turn away escaping the situation, he was caught by his own noble thought, “This must be Swami”, and the rest of the story turned a love-tale where the young psychiatrist experienced an unusual love for the stranger in front of him, trying to see Swami in him.
Presenting another story from his psychiatric practice days, an incredible story involving a young lady with a peculiar disorder who started getting Divine visitations and started speaking words of Wisdom that came out from Swami, revealed to her in her alien language Sanskrit, Dr. Sandweiss correlated his patient’s suffering experience to the suffering of Mother Earth owing to our mindless selfish behaviour. Narrating the experience of Jackie, Dr. Sandweiss said, we must take responsibility in healing, quoting Bhagawan’s message given in His visitations to his patient, Jackie, the young woman. It’s important to remember that we are in a holy yajna with Swami, surrendering selfishness and narrow-mindedness, through the power of love, to establish a better world.
On a personal note, I deeply miss Him, but am able to feel His omnipresence even stronger and see Him as light, feeling His protective guidance evermore. Quoting Bhagawan’s reply to a question as to whether He would save the world, “Half save – half seva (love in action)” Dr. Sandweiss concluded saying “we do have a role!” He ended his illuminating speech with a prayer focussed on His Glory and His Love.
With the help of a couple of actual stories, with video clips, Dr. Sandweiss presented his theories of Swami’s Omnipresence and how Bhagawan is the Ultimate Truth, Parabhrahmam.
The second speaker Swami Suddhananda Giri started off in typical Yogoda style as taught and practised by Paramahamsa Yogananda, with an prayer visualising the Guru of all Gurus at the brow-centre, visualising various Divine aspects, calling attributes seeking Divine guidance.
Offering greetings from Yogoda Satsang Ashram, the Swamiji expressed his faith that in a world troubled with tamasic influence the ongoing legacy of Bhagawan will continue to touch the hearts of many and such a life inspires all.
His speech was centred around how the difficult phase of Paramahamsa Yogananda’s physical departure was dealt by the followers when the Master shed his mortal frame six decades ago, in 1952. Invisible, impersonal God can be projected in a personal form by devotion…however, it is foolish to limit God in a form and forget His omnipresence, said the Swamiji narrating the example of how Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa attained it, crossing from his dearest Mother Kali’s form to the formless Mother Divine, with the help of sword of Wisdom. Worship focusing on form could obliterate the thought of God’s impersonal all-pervading nature and thus one who follows this path could fail attaining the transcendental Divine Union with His infinite nature.
Sharing anecdotes, experiences of Yogananda followers, the Swamiji expressed hope that Bhagawan’s devotees would find it easy to cross over from the form to the formless. Divine should not be restricted to a physical frame forgetting His omnipresent nature, said the Swamiji narrating an experience of a devotee of Yoganandaji who expressed reservations in accepting Yoganandaji as his guru, after his physical passing on, terming “Yoganandaji is dead”. The senior disciple advised this person telling that “Yoganandaji is not dead; you are dead”.
It is not the form of the Guru that gives one experience of bliss, but it is the Guru within to whom one attunes gives the experience. Visualisation of the Guru’s presence is more important in experiencing the Divine.
Attunement should happen from the heart, from the mind and with hands…as said by Sri Sri Paramahamsa Yoganandaji, with God in your hearts…enshrine God in your hearts, with a smile on your face, let your hands work ungrudgingly concluded Swami Suddhananda Giri not before reciting a prayer, repeated by all, a prayer awakening His love in all hearts…
The session continued with a couple of bhajans before Mangala Arathi offering at 1030 hrs.
Earlier, University Controller of Examinations, Sri Srinivasan Sri Rangarajan delivered the introductory talk commencing the proceedings. Dwelling on the difficult phase of accepting the reality of His changing over from the physical to the omnipresent all-pervading reality, Sri Rangarajan said, “…that when He chose to phase out from this dimension (physical), it has been a real challenge to focus our attention on the other dimensions of His existence. However, again in His Divine mercy and compassion, He has been manifesting His omnipresence in multifarious ways across the globe, much more intensely than ever before just to reassure us of His continuing eternal existence amidst us”. Calling the year gone by a tough one, challenging His devotees to refocus on His subtler dimensions of eternal existence, Sri Rangarajan invited the speakers for the colloquium on the theme “Experiencing the Divine – From the Form to the Formless”.
23rd April Evening:
Continuing with the colloquium, “Experiencing the Divine – the Form to the Formless” two programmes were slated for the evening session of 23rd April 2012. The first was a scholarly speech by Sri J. Jayaraman from the Ramanashram followed by a play by the youth of Sri Sathya Sai Seva Organisation, Odisha, “A Pilgrimage to Myself.”
Sri Jayaraman gave a scholarly exposition delving into philosophical truths. Paying his salutations to the Self-effulgent, Self-sporting light Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba, the speaker spoke of his inner experiences. Sri Jayaraman opined that one cannot expect the form to be always there. One has to withdraw to go to a higher plane. One has to withdraw from the outer and travel to the inner plane. The inner subsumes the outer.
Speaking further, the learned speaker posed a question, “What is the most permanent thing in the Jagrat (waking) state?” It is the sense of being. One has to surrender, and that is the ultimate stage in one’s life. It will be foolhardy to say, “I want to experience the Supreme Oneness.” One has to surrender every action to the Lord.
Sri Jayaraman was also blessed with two interviews with Bhagawan. When he asked Swami in one of the interviews for Balam (strength), Swami gave a succinct reply: “Atma is Balam.” He concluded his speech with a Sloka (verse) of Ramana Maharshi.
The second presentation, “A Pilgrimage to Myself” had the pertinent theme of a youth who is distraught at the physical separation of Bhagawan. But he soon realises that Bhagawan has not gone anywhere. He is present everywhere, in the heart of everyone.
The play was a dramatic presentation of some real life incidents of persons placed in different spheres of human predicament. It highlighted how Swami even after He left His mortal coil, continued to perform loving miracles and transforms lives and has become integral to their lives. The refrain was, “If one has to find God, one has to purify his heart, emotions and thoughts.”
A hair-raising incident of a youth was narrated. The youth, who was confined to his wheelchair was cured of his disability when he had the vision of Bhagawan in his sleep.
A boy by name Gangu is reduced to rags due to poverty. His condition became so pathetic that he picked up a bun from a dust bin to satiate his hunger. As a result, he lost his health and became sick. Youth from Sri Sathya Sai Organisation tend and provide food and shelter. The boy is cured, but does not want to go back to his parents. So, he is sent to a home for children run by the organisation.
Another revealing incident of a convict who is transformed after coming to know of Bhagawan is exonerated and released from jail two years prior to his completion of the term for his good conduct was the highlight of the drama. The play was interwoven into eight scenes and ended with the youth breaking into a song. The day’s programme concluded with Arati and distribution of Prasadam.
24th April Morning:
The day when the Avatar Of The Age had decided to move on from the physical plane into His transcendental eternal reality, 24th April, Prasanthi organized a special gathering commemorating the occasion. His Excellency Governor of Andhra Pradesh Sri ESL Narasimhan was the chief guest for the occasion.
Programme commenced at 0800 hrs. with Rudram chanting followed by Guru Vandana, a musical offering by the students from Sri Sathya Sai Institute Of Higher Learning.
Can we ever pay gratitude adequately for all that Bhagawan has bestowed upon us? …asked these students singing rich tribute to their Beloved Lord, commencing the programme highlighting the ‘Love That Conquers’ that flowed unceasingly molding lives many.
It was a collective offering of gratitude to their Beloved Swami Who defined their lives donning the role of Divine Parent. Interspersed with commentary, narrating His glory and grandeur, students presented a programme of five songs, interspersed with one to one interactions talking of His Love, His Glory and His Life and His Legacy. Picking relevant anecdotes from His Story and the lives of some devotees, these grateful students took the audience to the nostalgic world of Sai, showing rare glimpses from the past, from His Story.
Commenting about the physical proximity they were fortunate to have, students summed up, reminding themselves that they have had their share of His Love, in abundance, bestowed upon by Bhagawan, not out of deservedness, but out of sheer Love. The songs were Madhura Mohana…, Manishini Madhavuni…, Tuu Pyaar Ka Sagar Hey…, Rama Sai Rama Sai… and Sai Ke Darbar Mein…a quawwali.
Welcoming the Chief Guest, His Excellency Governor of Andhra Pradesh ESL Narasimhan and other distinguished guests, devotees and students, All India President of SSSSO, Sri V Srinivasan in his address reminded the audience that it was Bhagawan’s Sankalpa that the world witnessed last year when the Infinite One resolved to end His finite state on earth and return to Himself. In His infinite form He continues His Divine Mission, continues to be with His devotees, He continues to manifest Himself whenever and wherever He wills…there is no corner of this universe where Sathya Sai is not…He will be there for time eternal…fortunate are those who had experienced His leelas and blessed are those who continue to enjoy His communion…Truly Sathya Sai is the resurrection and the life…a life of Love, Compassion, Life for Service to the poor and needy…a Life Eternal. This is not an occasion to grieve, but to rededicate in His mission. His mission is ever expansive and each one of us has a role to play, reminded Sri Srinivasan.
Reiterating that all Sai institutions founded by Bhagawan are continuing to function as it were when Bhagawan was physically present, Sri Srinivasan made a couple of announcements. The first one was of Muddenahalli Campus of SSSSIHL being cleared by Govt. of India, granting the 4th campus for SSSIHL. He also mentioned about the Trust’s new initiative in expanding its coverage of water project providing drinking water to another 118 villages in Anantapur district costing additional 80 crores of rupees. A MOU signed between Radio Sai Global Harmony and Sri Sathya Sai Seva Organisations in disseminating Bhagawan’s Teachings was placed at Bhagawan’s Lotus Feet during the occasion.
Prof. G. Venkataraman who spoke next, gave an introduction about his treatise on Bhagawan, Miracle of Pure Love, that was subsequently released by His Excellency Governor of AP Sri Narasimhan.
This was followed by the Chief Guest’s address by Governor ESL Narasimhan. Regarded as one of the most intelligent officers of the Indian Civil Service, who headed the Intelligence Bureau of India prior to his political assignments, His Excellency Governor of Andhra Pradesh Ekkadu Srinivasan Lakshmi Narasimhan, during humbling speech, admitted that he has come to Prasanthi not as Governor of Andhra Pradesh, but as someone who adores Him…worships Him, Who has given him a life.
Beginning in Telugu the Governor soon switched over to English. Equating Bhagawan with Sun, who shines all the time without any beginning and end, the Governor said, Bhagawan has no beginning and no end, He is eternal. Sun grants happiness to everyone without any discrimination and Bhagawan is the same, granting happiness to entire creation. Referring to Bhagawan’s physical absence, the Governor said, Bhagawan is someone Whom one should experience.
By His physical departure Bhagawan made His devotees ever stronger, reminded the Governor to the audience mentioning his own reaction to the news that he had received on the morning of 24th April 2011 at Rajbhavan, Hyderabad. The message was about Bhagawan’s physical departure and it read “Light has gone out of our lives”. His instant response was that “Light has not gone out of our lives; light has come into our lives”.
Elucidating on the uniqueness of Bhagawan, the Governor said Bhagawan is 3-in-1, He is Baba, He is Swami and He is Bhagawan. Referring to the book release done prior to his speech, mentioning Dr. Venkataraman’s speech wherein he mentioned that the book was conceived, edited, printed and published by Swami Himself, the Governor added telling that ‘the book was released by Swami” to a round of applause from the audience.
Commenting on the expanse of “Sai Bhakta Samrajyam”, the Sai Empire, and the service activities being done under Bhagawan’s banner Sri Narasimhan hailed Bhagawan with the Purusha Suktham attribute, calling Him Sahasra Sheersha Purusha, The One with thousands of heads and hands, as He is ever present at all times.
Love and Service was Bhagawan’s prime motto and He was beyond all religions, giving equal importance to all religions. Referring to the various service activities done under the banner of Bhagawan, the Governor said, he would often ask his ministers in the government, “if one Swami could do it why not the government?”
Prasanthi is the haven of peace and he ever look forward to come to Prasanthi to bask in the peaceful atmosphere, that which eludes them in their day-to-day life in the world outside, said the Governor resolving that “I must try to something worthwhile”. An inspired Governor promised the audience that the current government will do something for the people of the state as ordained by Bhagawan.
Faith is built over experiences said the Governor mentioning how he felt the impact, of a couple of experiences pertaining to his previous visit to Bhagawan, even this day. Bhagawan has to be experienced, not to be seen.
Thanking Bhagawan profusely for the opportunity to be in His presence and for His unceasing grace, the Governor ended his inspirational speech with a promise to Bhagawan to deliver his best discharging his duties. He said, “to the best of my ability I will serve the society and the people”. The Governor also lucidly narrated the story of his first Darshan of Bhagawan, His first interview with Bhagawan and the lessons he learnt while having tested thoroughly before securing his first ever Divine Darshan.
Excerpts from Bhagawan’s Divine discourse followed. Beginning with the man’s eternal quest, Who Am I? Bhagawan paused the question as to what is meant by spirituality. Principle of self-presence in everyone is spirituality; feeling of Oneness, ‘i and you are One’ is spirituality.
Life is given to man with a purpose. He has to love his fellow beings with the heart presented to him by God. Man should give back his heart, given by God, with Love, back to God.
Making a mention of ancient worship of Mother Earth, Bhagawan asked what is wrong in worshipping Mother Earth who provides man with wherewithal. Mother Earth, Mother Cow, Vedic Mother, Physical Mother and Divine Mother have to be worshipped. Divine worship is supreme and by worshipping God country will be protected, said Bhagawan.
Bhagawan’s Divine discourse came to an end with the bhajan “Hari Bhajana Binaa…”. Prasadam was distributed and Mangala Arathi offered at 10:30 hrs.
Narayana Seva was conducted at the Sri Sathya Sai Hill View Stadium attended by hundreds of devotees from nearby villages. Free food was distributed to all the devotees inside the ashram.
24th April Evening:
Music aficionados were treated to a soulful symphony of music in Sai Kulwant Hall on the evening of 24th April 2012 as part of Sri Sathya Sai Aradhana Mahotsavam. The first performance was by the acclaimed carnatic music artiste Bombay Jayashri. The second performance was by Ayaan Ali Khan, younger son of Sarod Maestro Amjad Ali Khan. One can call them purists in Carnatic and Hindustani styles of music.
Bombay Jayashri began her performance with the song Jagadisha Sureesha… and followed it up with Gopala Gokula Vallabheeyam… and then the song that struck the chords in every heart, the melodious Vuyyala Luguma Sri Sathya Sai… One could well imagine our dear Lord Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba swaying in the swing to the song. The artiste topped her performance with the song Krishna Nee Begame Baaru… After this song, Bombay Jayashri and her accompanying artistes were honoured with clothes and mementoes.
The second performance for the evening by Ayaan Ali Khan, who made his solo debut at the age of eight, won plaudits from everyone in the hall. It was a soul-stirring performance from the young artiste. Having performed all over the world in front of varied audiences, the artiste was at ease in handling the Sarod. The recitals were in Raag Shri. One piece after the other had a cascading effect on the audience. At the end of the performance, Ayaan Ali Khan and his accompanying artistes were honoured with shawls and mementoes. After a few Bhajans and distribution of Prasadam, the session ended with Arati at 1900 hrs.
Valedictory Function, 25th April Evening
The Valedictory Session of the Colloquium, “Experiencing the Divine – The Form to the Formless” was held on the evening of 25th April 2012. The proceedings began at 5.15 p.m. after the Vedic chants. Sri Srinivas Srirangarajan introduced the two speakers who dilated at length on the above mentioned topic. The first speaker was Sri Sai Giridhar, a research scholar, who is also a seasoned speaker and versatile actor from Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Learning and the second to address the gathering was the eloquent speaker, Dr. G. Venkataraman, a renowned physicist, 5th Vice Chancellor of Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Learning and presently the head of Radio Sai Global Harmony.
Sri Sai Giridhar began his speech with a Sloka from the Bhagavadgita:
Mookam Karoti Vachalam Pangoom Langhayate Girim
Yatkripa Tamaham Vande Parmanand Madhavam
(Salutations to the ultimate One, by whose grace, a dumb man becomes the most talkative and a physically disabled man crosses the highest mountain)
Speaking on the purpose of an Avatar, Sri Giridhar opined, Bhagawan came to establish Prema Dharma, to establish love in the hearts of devotees. Bhagawan says the Avatar is the concretisation of the love of devotees and their penance. Bhagawan set up marvellous models like Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Learning and Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Medical Sciences for humans to emulate. But his ultimate objective was transformation of human heart.
Sri Giridhar said that Bhagawan is a perfect host. When He calls people for interview, He waits till the last person goes inside the interview room. Then He personally switches on the fan. In the course of the interview, Swami questioned, “How long will you go behind this body? Learn to connect to the unseen, the unmanifest, the eternal.” The simplest way for a devotee to connect to the unseen power is love. One has to enshrine the beautiful form of Bhagawan in the heart, said Sri Giridhar.
Narrating a wonderful experience of a gentleman from Indonesia, who had come as part of a team to study the Sri Sathya Sai system of education, Sri Giridhar said after hearing a teacher speak in the moral class, the person who had not seen Bhagawan before came to the speaker and asked, “Does Sai Baba often come to you and give such beautiful benedictions?” The speaker was a bit nonplussed. Then the person told him what he had experienced, he saw Bhagawan sitting in the chair placed for Him, and also conferring His benedictions at the end of the speech. Continuing further, Sri Giridhar told another experience he had when he went with a group to Badrinath. This happened after Bhagawan left His mortal coil. The saint in an Ashram in Badrinath welcomed them to his abode, and said, Bhagawan has not gone anywhere, He is not far away. “Fill your hearts with love, purify your thoughts and call out once Sai Ram, He will be there right in front of you.” Sri Giridhar ended his enlightening speech by saying that we should make a conducive atmosphere in ourselves so that Bhagawan will see, speak, listen through all of us.
Padmashri Dr. G. Venkataraman began his speech by offering his loving salutations at Bhagawan’s Lotus Feet and thanking the Trustees for giving him an opportunity to speak. The erudite speaker quoting from the film Mira said, M.S. Subbulakshmi posed a question in a song, “Oh the One, who is everywhere, where have you disappeared?” Mira posed a question, but there was no answer. In September 1984, Bhagawan gave a series of Discourses on the Bhagavadgita. In one of the speeches, Bhagawan said, “Now, right here, you are able to see Me, but when you go out of this place, you will neither see Me or the people in this gathering.” Dr. Venkataraman said, the essence of Swami’s remark can be taken in the context of the present scenario. “The absence of Swami is only at a physical level. If we restrict him to a form, it is our weakness. Whether we like it or not, we should move forward. The time has come to look for Him inside than outside.” Speaking further, the learned speaker said, the term legacy is interpreted in the form of something inherited from generation to generation. But Bhagawan’s legacy is His Legacy of Love.
Speaking about a Discourse Bhagawan delivered during the Ati Rudra Maha Yajna in 2006, Dr. Venkataraman told the audience that life is based on Karma (action). There is no time that we do not involve in Karma, even while sleeping. Animals do not have the capacity to rise to higher levels of consciousness. So, when animals kill humans, there is no crime, but the same does not apply for humans.
After the inauguration of the Anantapur College in 1971, Bhagawan said, India is being converted into a Bhoga Bhumi (a land of pleasures). Bhagawan had said this much before the advent of Internet and Smart Phones. God incarnates in this land of Bharat again and again because this land has been sanctified by saints and sages of yore. Describing a revealing experience, Dr. Venkataraman said that one occasion in the year 1998, Bhagawan took him along with Him in His car in Brindavan, Bengaluru. In the course of the ride, the speaker posed a question to Bhagawan, “Why there is so much Adharma (unrighteousness) in the world?” Then Swami posed a counter question to the speaker, “What is the mood in Sai Ramesh Krishan Hall before I come for Darshan?” Dr. Venkataraman replied, “Swami, there is absolute silence, everyone waits with bated breath for Bhagawan.” Then Bhagawan asked, “When a child cries, what happens?” The speaker promptly replied, “Everyone’s attention is diverted towards the child.” In the same way, Bhagawan said the media and everybody’s attention is focused on Adharma, when there are so many people following the Dharmic path (righteous path).
Speaking in the same vein, Dr. Venkataraman said, when Bhagawan visited Mumbai in 1968, Bhagawan paid a visit to Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan. The Kulapathi was Sri K.M. Munshi. Sri Munshi asked Bhagawan, “Should India go nuclear?” Swami gave a succinct reply. Comparing U.S.A. to Arjuna and Russia to Bhima, Bhagawan said, India is like Dharmaraja. Though Dharmaraja is not so proficient in warfare like Arjuna and Bhima, but both Arjuna and Bhima go to Dharmaraja for any wise counsel. In the same way, India is like the engine, which will lead the other nations in the spiritual path. Dr. Venkataraman concluded his speech by saying, “Let us pick up the torch of Prema and march forward valiantly.
At the end of his speech, Youth and devotees from West Bengal presented a bouquet of nine well-knit songs to the delight of the devotees. The songs in Hindi were well choregraphed, composed specially for the occasion with soothing music. For about half an hour, the youth and devotees, both ladies and gents presented the songs with matching visuals of Bhagawan’s Darshans which added a beautiful aura to the programme. Devotees could listen to the melodious songs and have the beautiful Darshan of the Lord at different occasions on the large screens and TVs. The lyrics of some of these songs are worth mentioning: Har Pal Tera Saath (O Dear Lord Sai, every moment we can feel that you are with us), Swas Swas Pe Likha Ho (On our every breath, may Your name be imprinted O Dear Lord Sai), Hey Sarvyaapi Sathya Sai Ram (O Dear Lord, You are omnipresent and exist in every tiniest molecule of this creation), Sai Tumhaara Jeevan Hai Sab Grantho Ka Saar (Beloved Swami, your life if the essence of all scriptures and epics), Ye Sai Yug, Hai Swarnim Yug (The Sai Era is the Golden Era), etc. After these songs, there were a few Bhajans. Sri Sathya Sai Aradhana Mahotsavam concluded with distribution of Prasadam and Arati at 1920 hrs.

Prasanthi Nilayam witnessed a festival of difference, Sri Sathya Sai Aradhana Mahotsavam, a celebration in commemoration of the ascent of the Avatar of the Age – Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba on 23rd, 24th and 25th April 2012. It was on the 24th of April last year that Bhagawan moved on from the physical plane of existence, to become the subtler omnipresence all-pervading reality. The festivity for three days was attended by thousands of devotees from all around the world and was marked with speeches and cultural programmes.
On the 23rd April morning, the programme commenced with a colloquium on the theme “Experiencing the Divine – From the Form to the Formless”. The two speakers were Dr. Samuel Sandweiss, a practising psychiatrist, author of some of the most popular Sai literature and a long time devotee from San Diego, California, USA followed by Swami Suddhananda Giri of Yogoda Satsanga Society, founded by revered Sri Sri Paramahamsa Yogananda, a renowned spiritual master who authored the masterpiece, Autobiography of a Yogi.
Dr. Sandweiss with his scientific and psychiatric temperament had evinced keen interest in Bhagawan’s Divinity and thus was aptly rewarded with rare glimpses of What and Who He Is… And the day’s talk was a reflection of what he deciphered over the years from his close association with Bhagawan. His speech was a testimony as to how the professional psychiatrist and devotee in him is able to correlate many of Bhagawan’s teachings, that was imparted in person, to the current situation overcoming the big puzzle of Bhagawan’s physical absence, embracing His omnipresence.
Reflecting on the given theme, Divine Omnipresence of Bhagawan, Dr. Sandweiss began with the Oneness Principle often repeated by Bhagawan, where all becomes One in the ‘I’ of Sai. Experiencing Divinity from form to formlessness is to experience and celebrate Swami’s all-embracing love that brings us together as one family. Elucidating on the theme He spoke on the subject based on facts of his own experience with Bhagawan spanning over four decades. About the aspect of “Formlessness”, he said, “my understanding of the formless is that it is infinite silence, eternal peace, emptiness of desires and attachments: pure love, which is everything”.
Quoting Bhagawan, “Everything is Nothing and Nothing is Everything”, the speaker claimed there is no separation, there is only One and that One is Everything, that One is Love. The answer to the question Who am I comes from Swami’s omnipresent love. By turning and tuning to Him, by practising His teachings of love and service, we enter into Him realizing the Truth of So Hum..So Hum…I am He…I am He…
Living seven seas apart from the physical presence of the Avatar the speaker had experienced His omnipresence many a time while engaged in service activities. …And the biggest lesson he learnt was to look for Him everywhere, to find Him every in everyone, that would finally help to find our own self.
Remembering Swami at all situations, trying to envision Him in everyone one could attain a miraculous transformation, turning bondage to freedom, said the speaker narrating his experience as a young psychiatrist, meeting up with a strange, weathered, wasted man who was incoherent, dirty picked up on the street with 70% burns on his body. Perplexed at the oddity staring at him when the young psychiatrist in him wanted to turn away escaping the situation, he was caught by his own noble thought, “This must be Swami”, and the rest of the story turned a love-tale where the young psychiatrist experienced an unusual love for the stranger in front of him, trying to see Swami in him.
Presenting another story from his psychiatric practice days, an incredible story involving a young lady with a peculiar disorder who started getting Divine visitations and started speaking words of Wisdom that came out from Swami, revealed to her in her alien language Sanskrit, Dr. Sandweiss correlated his patient’s suffering experience to the suffering of Mother Earth owing to our mindless selfish behaviour. Narrating the experience of Jackie, Dr. Sandweiss said, we must take responsibility in healing, quoting Bhagawan’s message given in His visitations to his patient, Jackie, the young woman. It’s important to remember that we are in a holy yajna with Swami, surrendering selfishness and narrow-mindedness, through the power of love, to establish a better world.
On a personal note, I deeply miss Him, but am able to feel His omnipresence even stronger and see Him as light, feeling His protective guidance evermore. Quoting Bhagawan’s reply to a question as to whether He would save the world, “Half save – half seva (love in action)” Dr. Sandweiss concluded saying “we do have a role!” He ended his illuminating speech with a prayer focussed on His Glory and His Love.
With the help of a couple of actual stories, with video clips, Dr. Sandweiss presented his theories of Swami’s Omnipresence and how Bhagawan is the Ultimate Truth, Parabhrahmam.
The second speaker Swami Suddhananda Giri started off in typical Yogoda style as taught and practised by Paramahamsa Yogananda, with an prayer visualising the Guru of all Gurus at the brow-centre, visualising various Divine aspects, calling attributes seeking Divine guidance.
Offering greetings from Yogoda Satsang Ashram, the Swamiji expressed his faith that in a world troubled with tamasic influence the ongoing legacy of Bhagawan will continue to touch the hearts of many and such a life inspires all.
His speech was centred around how the difficult phase of Paramahamsa Yogananda’s physical departure was dealt by the followers when the Master shed his mortal frame six decades ago, in 1952. Invisible, impersonal God can be projected in a personal form by devotion…however, it is foolish to limit God in a form and forget His omnipresence, said the Swamiji narrating the example of how Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa attained it, crossing from his dearest Mother Kali’s form to the formless Mother Divine, with the help of sword of Wisdom. Worship focusing on form could obliterate the thought of God’s impersonal all-pervading nature and thus one who follows this path could fail attaining the transcendental Divine Union with His infinite nature.
Sharing anecdotes, experiences of Yogananda followers, the Swamiji expressed hope that Bhagawan’s devotees would find it easy to cross over from the form to the formless. Divine should not be restricted to a physical frame forgetting His omnipresent nature, said the Swamiji narrating an experience of a devotee of Yoganandaji who expressed reservations in accepting Yoganandaji as his guru, after his physical passing on, terming “Yoganandaji is dead”. The senior disciple advised this person telling that “Yoganandaji is not dead; you are dead”.
It is not the form of the Guru that gives one experience of bliss, but it is the Guru within to whom one attunes gives the experience. Visualisation of the Guru’s presence is more important in experiencing the Divine.
Attunement should happen from the heart, from the mind and with hands…as said by Sri Sri Paramahamsa Yoganandaji, with God in your hearts…enshrine God in your hearts, with a smile on your face, let your hands work ungrudgingly concluded Swami Suddhananda Giri not before reciting a prayer, repeated by all, a prayer awakening His love in all hearts…
The session continued with a couple of bhajans before Mangala Arathi offering at 1030 hrs.
Earlier, University Controller of Examinations, Sri Srinivasan Sri Rangarajan delivered the introductory talk commencing the proceedings. Dwelling on the difficult phase of accepting the reality of His changing over from the physical to the omnipresent all-pervading reality, Sri Rangarajan said, “…that when He chose to phase out from this dimension (physical), it has been a real challenge to focus our attention on the other dimensions of His existence. However, again in His Divine mercy and compassion, He has been manifesting His omnipresence in multifarious ways across the globe, much more intensely than ever before just to reassure us of His continuing eternal existence amidst us”. Calling the year gone by a tough one, challenging His devotees to refocus on His subtler dimensions of eternal existence, Sri Rangarajan invited the speakers for the colloquium on the theme “Experiencing the Divine – From the Form to the Formless”.
23rd April Evening:
Continuing with the colloquium, “Experiencing the Divine – the Form to the Formless” two programmes were slated for the evening session of 23rd April 2012. The first was a scholarly speech by Sri J. Jayaraman from the Ramanashram followed by a play by the youth of Sri Sathya Sai Seva Organisation, Odisha, “A Pilgrimage to Myself.”
Sri Jayaraman gave a scholarly exposition delving into philosophical truths. Paying his salutations to the Self-effulgent, Self-sporting light Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba, the speaker spoke of his inner experiences. Sri Jayaraman opined that one cannot expect the form to be always there. One has to withdraw to go to a higher plane. One has to withdraw from the outer and travel to the inner plane. The inner subsumes the outer.
Speaking further, the learned speaker posed a question, “What is the most permanent thing in the Jagrat (waking) state?” It is the sense of being. One has to surrender, and that is the ultimate stage in one’s life. It will be foolhardy to say, “I want to experience the Supreme Oneness.” One has to surrender every action to the Lord.
Sri Jayaraman was also blessed with two interviews with Bhagawan. When he asked Swami in one of the interviews for Balam (strength), Swami gave a succinct reply: “Atma is Balam.” He concluded his speech with a Sloka (verse) of Ramana Maharshi.
The second presentation, “A Pilgrimage to Myself” had the pertinent theme of a youth who is distraught at the physical separation of Bhagawan. But he soon realises that Bhagawan has not gone anywhere. He is present everywhere, in the heart of everyone.
The play was a dramatic presentation of some real life incidents of persons placed in different spheres of human predicament. It highlighted how Swami even after He left His mortal coil, continued to perform loving miracles and transforms lives and has become integral to their lives. The refrain was, “If one has to find God, one has to purify his heart, emotions and thoughts.”
A hair-raising incident of a youth was narrated. The youth, who was confined to his wheelchair was cured of his disability when he had the vision of Bhagawan in his sleep.
A boy by name Gangu is reduced to rags due to poverty. His condition became so pathetic that he picked up a bun from a dust bin to satiate his hunger. As a result, he lost his health and became sick. Youth from Sri Sathya Sai Organisation tend and provide food and shelter. The boy is cured, but does not want to go back to his parents. So, he is sent to a home for children run by the organisation.
Another revealing incident of a convict who is transformed after coming to know of Bhagawan is exonerated and released from jail two years prior to his completion of the term for his good conduct was the highlight of the drama. The play was interwoven into eight scenes and ended with the youth breaking into a song. The day’s programme concluded with Arati and distribution of Prasadam.
24th April Morning:
The day when the Avatar Of The Age had decided to move on from the physical plane into His transcendental eternal reality, 24th April, Prasanthi organized a special gathering commemorating the occasion. His Excellency Governor of Andhra Pradesh Sri ESL Narasimhan was the chief guest for the occasion.
Programme commenced at 0800 hrs. with Rudram chanting followed by Guru Vandana, a musical offering by the students from Sri Sathya Sai Institute Of Higher Learning.
Can we ever pay gratitude adequately for all that Bhagawan has bestowed upon us? …asked these students singing rich tribute to their Beloved Lord, commencing the programme highlighting the ‘Love That Conquers’ that flowed unceasingly molding lives many.
It was a collective offering of gratitude to their Beloved Swami Who defined their lives donning the role of Divine Parent. Interspersed with commentary, narrating His glory and grandeur, students presented a programme of five songs, interspersed with one to one interactions talking of His Love, His Glory and His Life and His Legacy. Picking relevant anecdotes from His Story and the lives of some devotees, these grateful students took the audience to the nostalgic world of Sai, showing rare glimpses from the past, from His Story.
Commenting about the physical proximity they were fortunate to have, students summed up, reminding themselves that they have had their share of His Love, in abundance, bestowed upon by Bhagawan, not out of deservedness, but out of sheer Love. The songs were Madhura Mohana…, Manishini Madhavuni…, Tuu Pyaar Ka Sagar Hey…, Rama Sai Rama Sai… and Sai Ke Darbar Mein…a quawwali.
Welcoming the Chief Guest, His Excellency Governor of Andhra Pradesh ESL Narasimhan and other distinguished guests, devotees and students, All India President of SSSSO, Sri V Srinivasan in his address reminded the audience that it was Bhagawan’s Sankalpa that the world witnessed last year when the Infinite One resolved to end His finite state on earth and return to Himself. In His infinite form He continues His Divine Mission, continues to be with His devotees, He continues to manifest Himself whenever and wherever He wills…there is no corner of this universe where Sathya Sai is not…He will be there for time eternal…fortunate are those who had experienced His leelas and blessed are those who continue to enjoy His communion…Truly Sathya Sai is the resurrection and the life…a life of Love, Compassion, Life for Service to the poor and needy…a Life Eternal. This is not an occasion to grieve, but to rededicate in His mission. His mission is ever expansive and each one of us has a role to play, reminded Sri Srinivasan.
Reiterating that all Sai institutions founded by Bhagawan are continuing to function as it were when Bhagawan was physically present, Sri Srinivasan made a couple of announcements. The first one was of Muddenahalli Campus of SSSSIHL being cleared by Govt. of India, granting the 4th campus for SSSIHL. He also mentioned about the Trust’s new initiative in expanding its coverage of water project providing drinking water to another 118 villages in Anantapur district costing additional 80 crores of rupees. A MOU signed between Radio Sai Global Harmony and Sri Sathya Sai Seva Organisations in disseminating Bhagawan’s Teachings was placed at Bhagawan’s Lotus Feet during the occasion.
Prof. G. Venkataraman who spoke next, gave an introduction about his treatise on Bhagawan, Miracle of Pure Love, that was subsequently released by His Excellency Governor of AP Sri Narasimhan.
This was followed by the Chief Guest’s address by Governor ESL Narasimhan. Regarded as one of the most intelligent officers of the Indian Civil Service, who headed the Intelligence Bureau of India prior to his political assignments, His Excellency Governor of Andhra Pradesh Ekkadu Srinivasan Lakshmi Narasimhan, during humbling speech, admitted that he has come to Prasanthi not as Governor of Andhra Pradesh, but as someone who adores Him…worships Him, Who has given him a life.
Beginning in Telugu the Governor soon switched over to English. Equating Bhagawan with Sun, who shines all the time without any beginning and end, the Governor said, Bhagawan has no beginning and no end, He is eternal. Sun grants happiness to everyone without any discrimination and Bhagawan is the same, granting happiness to entire creation. Referring to Bhagawan’s physical absence, the Governor said, Bhagawan is someone Whom one should experience.
By His physical departure Bhagawan made His devotees ever stronger, reminded the Governor to the audience mentioning his own reaction to the news that he had received on the morning of 24th April 2011 at Rajbhavan, Hyderabad. The message was about Bhagawan’s physical departure and it read “Light has gone out of our lives”. His instant response was that “Light has not gone out of our lives; light has come into our lives”.
Elucidating on the uniqueness of Bhagawan, the Governor said Bhagawan is 3-in-1, He is Baba, He is Swami and He is Bhagawan. Referring to the book release done prior to his speech, mentioning Dr. Venkataraman’s speech wherein he mentioned that the book was conceived, edited, printed and published by Swami Himself, the Governor added telling that ‘the book was released by Swami” to a round of applause from the audience.
Commenting on the expanse of “Sai Bhakta Samrajyam”, the Sai Empire, and the service activities being done under Bhagawan’s banner Sri Narasimhan hailed Bhagawan with the Purusha Suktham attribute, calling Him Sahasra Sheersha Purusha, The One with thousands of heads and hands, as He is ever present at all times.
Love and Service was Bhagawan’s prime motto and He was beyond all religions, giving equal importance to all religions. Referring to the various service activities done under the banner of Bhagawan, the Governor said, he would often ask his ministers in the government, “if one Swami could do it why not the government?”
Prasanthi is the haven of peace and he ever look forward to come to Prasanthi to bask in the peaceful atmosphere, that which eludes them in their day-to-day life in the world outside, said the Governor resolving that “I must try to something worthwhile”. An inspired Governor promised the audience that the current government will do something for the people of the state as ordained by Bhagawan.
Faith is built over experiences said the Governor mentioning how he felt the impact, of a couple of experiences pertaining to his previous visit to Bhagawan, even this day. Bhagawan has to be experienced, not to be seen.
Thanking Bhagawan profusely for the opportunity to be in His presence and for His unceasing grace, the Governor ended his inspirational speech with a promise to Bhagawan to deliver his best discharging his duties. He said, “to the best of my ability I will serve the society and the people”. The Governor also lucidly narrated the story of his first Darshan of Bhagawan, His first interview with Bhagawan and the lessons he learnt while having tested thoroughly before securing his first ever Divine Darshan.
Excerpts from Bhagawan’s Divine discourse followed. Beginning with the man’s eternal quest, Who Am I? Bhagawan paused the question as to what is meant by spirituality. Principle of self-presence in everyone is spirituality; feeling of Oneness, ‘i and you are One’ is spirituality.
Life is given to man with a purpose. He has to love his fellow beings with the heart presented to him by God. Man should give back his heart, given by God, with Love, back to God.
Making a mention of ancient worship of Mother Earth, Bhagawan asked what is wrong in worshipping Mother Earth who provides man with wherewithal. Mother Earth, Mother Cow, Vedic Mother, Physical Mother and Divine Mother have to be worshipped. Divine worship is supreme and by worshipping God country will be protected, said Bhagawan.
Bhagawan’s Divine discourse came to an end with the bhajan “Hari Bhajana Binaa…”. Prasadam was distributed and Mangala Arathi offered at 10:30 hrs.
Narayana Seva was conducted at the Sri Sathya Sai Hill View Stadium attended by hundreds of devotees from nearby villages. Free food was distributed to all the devotees inside the ashram.
24th April Evening:
Music aficionados were treated to a soulful symphony of music in Sai Kulwant Hall on the evening of 24th April 2012 as part of Sri Sathya Sai Aradhana Mahotsavam. The first performance was by the acclaimed carnatic music artiste Bombay Jayashri. The second performance was by Ayaan Ali Khan, younger son of Sarod Maestro Amjad Ali Khan. One can call them purists in Carnatic and Hindustani styles of music.
Bombay Jayashri began her performance with the song Jagadisha Sureesha… and followed it up with Gopala Gokula Vallabheeyam… and then the song that struck the chords in every heart, the melodious Vuyyala Luguma Sri Sathya Sai… One could well imagine our dear Lord Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba swaying in the swing to the song. The artiste topped her performance with the song Krishna Nee Begame Baaru… After this song, Bombay Jayashri and her accompanying artistes were honoured with clothes and mementoes.
The second performance for the evening by Ayaan Ali Khan, who made his solo debut at the age of eight, won plaudits from everyone in the hall. It was a soul-stirring performance from the young artiste. Having performed all over the world in front of varied audiences, the artiste was at ease in handling the Sarod. The recitals were in Raag Shri. One piece after the other had a cascading effect on the audience. At the end of the performance, Ayaan Ali Khan and his accompanying artistes were honoured with shawls and mementoes. After a few Bhajans and distribution of Prasadam, the session ended with Arati at 1900 hrs.
Valedictory Function, 25th April Evening
The Valedictory Session of the Colloquium, “Experiencing the Divine – The Form to the Formless” was held on the evening of 25th April 2012. The proceedings began at 5.15 p.m. after the Vedic chants. Sri Srinivas Srirangarajan introduced the two speakers who dilated at length on the above mentioned topic. The first speaker was Sri Sai Giridhar, a research scholar, who is also a seasoned speaker and versatile actor from Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Learning and the second to address the gathering was the eloquent speaker, Dr. G. Venkataraman, a renowned physicist, 5th Vice Chancellor of Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Learning and presently the head of Radio Sai Global Harmony.
Sri Sai Giridhar began his speech with a Sloka from the Bhagavadgita:
Mookam Karoti Vachalam Pangoom Langhayate Girim
Yatkripa Tamaham Vande Parmanand Madhavam
(Salutations to the ultimate One, by whose grace, a dumb man becomes the most talkative and a physically disabled man crosses the highest mountain)
Speaking on the purpose of an Avatar, Sri Giridhar opined, Bhagawan came to establish Prema Dharma, to establish love in the hearts of devotees. Bhagawan says the Avatar is the concretisation of the love of devotees and their penance. Bhagawan set up marvellous models like Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Learning and Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Medical Sciences for humans to emulate. But his ultimate objective was transformation of human heart.
Sri Giridhar said that Bhagawan is a perfect host. When He calls people for interview, He waits till the last person goes inside the interview room. Then He personally switches on the fan. In the course of the interview, Swami questioned, “How long will you go behind this body? Learn to connect to the unseen, the unmanifest, the eternal.” The simplest way for a devotee to connect to the unseen power is love. One has to enshrine the beautiful form of Bhagawan in the heart, said Sri Giridhar.
Narrating a wonderful experience of a gentleman from Indonesia, who had come as part of a team to study the Sri Sathya Sai system of education, Sri Giridhar said after hearing a teacher speak in the moral class, the person who had not seen Bhagawan before came to the speaker and asked, “Does Sai Baba often come to you and give such beautiful benedictions?” The speaker was a bit nonplussed. Then the person told him what he had experienced, he saw Bhagawan sitting in the chair placed for Him, and also conferring His benedictions at the end of the speech. Continuing further, Sri Giridhar told another experience he had when he went with a group to Badrinath. This happened after Bhagawan left His mortal coil. The saint in an Ashram in Badrinath welcomed them to his abode, and said, Bhagawan has not gone anywhere, He is not far away. “Fill your hearts with love, purify your thoughts and call out once Sai Ram, He will be there right in front of you.” Sri Giridhar ended his enlightening speech by saying that we should make a conducive atmosphere in ourselves so that Bhagawan will see, speak, listen through all of us.
Padmashri Dr. G. Venkataraman began his speech by offering his loving salutations at Bhagawan’s Lotus Feet and thanking the Trustees for giving him an opportunity to speak. The erudite speaker quoting from the film Mira said, M.S. Subbulakshmi posed a question in a song, “Oh the One, who is everywhere, where have you disappeared?” Mira posed a question, but there was no answer. In September 1984, Bhagawan gave a series of Discourses on the Bhagavadgita. In one of the speeches, Bhagawan said, “Now, right here, you are able to see Me, but when you go out of this place, you will neither see Me or the people in this gathering.” Dr. Venkataraman said, the essence of Swami’s remark can be taken in the context of the present scenario. “The absence of Swami is only at a physical level. If we restrict him to a form, it is our weakness. Whether we like it or not, we should move forward. The time has come to look for Him inside than outside.” Speaking further, the learned speaker said, the term legacy is interpreted in the form of something inherited from generation to generation. But Bhagawan’s legacy is His Legacy of Love.
Speaking about a Discourse Bhagawan delivered during the Ati Rudra Maha Yajna in 2006, Dr. Venkataraman told the audience that life is based on Karma (action). There is no time that we do not involve in Karma, even while sleeping. Animals do not have the capacity to rise to higher levels of consciousness. So, when animals kill humans, there is no crime, but the same does not apply for humans.
After the inauguration of the Anantapur College in 1971, Bhagawan said, India is being converted into a Bhoga Bhumi (a land of pleasures). Bhagawan had said this much before the advent of Internet and Smart Phones. God incarnates in this land of Bharat again and again because this land has been sanctified by saints and sages of yore. Describing a revealing experience, Dr. Venkataraman said that one occasion in the year 1998, Bhagawan took him along with Him in His car in Brindavan, Bengaluru. In the course of the ride, the speaker posed a question to Bhagawan, “Why there is so much Adharma (unrighteousness) in the world?” Then Swami posed a counter question to the speaker, “What is the mood in Sai Ramesh Krishan Hall before I come for Darshan?” Dr. Venkataraman replied, “Swami, there is absolute silence, everyone waits with bated breath for Bhagawan.” Then Bhagawan asked, “When a child cries, what happens?” The speaker promptly replied, “Everyone’s attention is diverted towards the child.” In the same way, Bhagawan said the media and everybody’s attention is focused on Adharma, when there are so many people following the Dharmic path (righteous path).
Speaking in the same vein, Dr. Venkataraman said, when Bhagawan visited Mumbai in 1968, Bhagawan paid a visit to Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan. The Kulapathi was Sri K.M. Munshi. Sri Munshi asked Bhagawan, “Should India go nuclear?” Swami gave a succinct reply. Comparing U.S.A. to Arjuna and Russia to Bhima, Bhagawan said, India is like Dharmaraja. Though Dharmaraja is not so proficient in warfare like Arjuna and Bhima, but both Arjuna and Bhima go to Dharmaraja for any wise counsel. In the same way, India is like the engine, which will lead the other nations in the spiritual path. Dr. Venkataraman concluded his speech by saying, “Let us pick up the torch of Prema and march forward valiantly.
At the end of his speech, Youth and devotees from West Bengal presented a bouquet of nine well-knit songs to the delight of the devotees. The songs in Hindi were well choregraphed, composed specially for the occasion with soothing music. For about half an hour, the youth and devotees, both ladies and gents presented the songs with matching visuals of Bhagawan’s Darshans which added a beautiful aura to the programme. Devotees could listen to the melodious songs and have the beautiful Darshan of the Lord at different occasions on the large screens and TVs. The lyrics of some of these songs are worth mentioning: Har Pal Tera Saath (O Dear Lord Sai, every moment we can feel that you are with us), Swas Swas Pe Likha Ho (On our every breath, may Your name be imprinted O Dear Lord Sai), Hey Sarvyaapi Sathya Sai Ram (O Dear Lord, You are omnipresent and exist in every tiniest molecule of this creation), Sai Tumhaara Jeevan Hai Sab Grantho Ka Saar (Beloved Swami, your life if the essence of all scriptures and epics), Ye Sai Yug, Hai Swarnim Yug (The Sai Era is the Golden Era), etc. After these songs, there were a few Bhajans. Sri Sathya Sai Aradhana Mahotsavam concluded with distribution of Prasadam and Arati at 1920 hrs.
