¿QUÉ ES LA TRANSFORMACIÓN ?
¿Qué es la transformación? Existen muchas interpretaciones erróneas acerca de la transformación. ¿Experimenta una transformación un no-vegetariano que se convierte en vegetariano? No lo creo. ¿Puede ser considerado como transformado un alcohólico que se vuelve abstemio? No, no basta.
Algunas personas me preguntan, "¿Cuál ha sido la transformación más notoria en su vida desde que conociera a Swami?" Mi respuesta es, "Nunca requerí de una transformación, puesto que era lo bastante bueno."
Entonces, ¿qué es transformación verdadera? Una verdadera transformación está en la ausencia de ego, de celos, de orgullo, de apetito de poder y la no arrogancia. Eso es transformación.
Hay algunos que me dicen, "Anil Kumar, después de llegar hasta Swami, dejé de comer curry brinjal." ¡Eso no es transformación!
Alguien dijo, "He sufrido una transformación, porque dejé de comer calabacines amargos." Le dije, "De todas maneras no le gustaban, ¡eso no es transformación!" (Risas)
Hay algunos que dicen también, "Una vez al mes no pruebo alimentos el día jueves." Les digo, "El dejar de comer una vez al mes no es suficiente, no es transformación."
Otros dicen, "El jueves es el día de Baba, por ende no como, el sábado es el día de Venkateshwara (o el martes es el día de Hanuman), por lo tanto no como."
Digo, "Por favor, dejen de comer. Ese será vuestro día - ¡su último día!" (Risas)
Declaraciones como éstas no significan transformación. Amigos míos, renunciar a algún bocado en el desayuno o en la cena no implica transformación.

Cuando han tenido una discusión con su mujer, no quieren cenar esa noche como para expresar su enojo. Pero eso no hace que digan al día siguiente, "He estado ayunando". ¡El reñir con su mujer no es una transformación religiosa!

El que jueguen a las cartas durante toda la noche en Shivarathri, no les puede llevar a afirmar que han mantenido una vigilia. ¿A quién están engañando?
LA VERDADERA TRANSFORMACIÓN
Transformación significa el sentir que no son nadie. Significa reconocer sus propios errores y, al mismo tiempo, notar el talento en otros. El ser nadie . . . eso es transformación.
Echemos una mirada a la transformación externa. Algunas personas llevan tres líneas paralelas
(refiriéndose a las marcas de vibhuti en sus frentes). ¿Y qué hay entonces acerca de estas otras líneas?
(El Prof. Kumar muestra las líneas en las palmas de sus manos) ¡Y una cebra tiene líneas por sobre todo su cuerpo! Por lo tanto, las marcas o señales externas, incluso las mostradas en observancia de algunos rituales, no son suficientes. Tal vez puedan ser un comienzo, como un primer peldaño en la escalera espiritual.
Había un señor que donara una cantidad de equipamiento al hospital en Puttaparthi. ¿Saben lo que dijo? "Swami, este equipamiento no es mío como para donarlo. Es Tuyo y es suficiente con que lo aceptes. Gracias, Swami." ¡Eso es transformación!
Otra gente en tanto, alardeará con que ha donado todos sus ahorros (o lo que sea) a Swami. ¿Saben lo que les digo? "Probablemente habrán de reencarnar 100 veces más para poder lograr la transformación."
Por eso, mis amigos, este viaje espiritual representa una oportunidad, una aventura y un desafío – un viaje desde lo conocido a lo desconocido. Resulta fácil viajar desde lo conocido hacia lo conocido. Yo conozco Malasia y conozco la India. Mas si hubiéramos de viajar a la luna, ese sería un ambiente desconocido. Y no sé si podría regresar o no.
LA TRANSFORMACIÓN INDUCE ECUANIMIDAD
De modo que este viaje espiritual es un trayecto desde lo conocido hacia lo desconocido. Es bastante riesgoso y no tan fácil. Mas una experiencia tras otra les irán haciendo cada vez más fuertes, y entonces ya no serán arrastrados tan fácilmente por las corrientes. Ya no se agitarán como las hojas ante la más leve brisa. Se mantendrán como una roca en el mar. Las olas del océano se estrellan contra las rocas, mas estas permanecen firmes. Esto es lo que les da la experiencia – una especie de transformación, en cuanto permanecen firmes y venturosos.
Por ejemplo, había un gran erudito que estaba a cargo del yagna en Prasanthi Nilayam. Swami materializó un collar para su mujer. Todos lo vieron.
Pensé para mis adentros, 'Si no pregunto por el collar, este señor va a pensar que siento celos de su mujer. ¿Qué debo hacer?' De modo que me acerqué a él y dije, "Señor, supe que Swami materializó un collar para su mujer."
Replicó, "El cuerpo es temporal como una burbuja de agua. ¿Cree usted que ese collar va a durar por siempre? ¿Cree que esa cadena es permanente, mientras que el cuerpo mismo es impermanente? Sr. Anil Kumar, no esperaba que usted hiciera tales preguntas."
Respondí, "No quise meterme en problemas, señor. ¡Conocía esa respuesta!"
Una verdadera transformación no le hace sentir a uno contento debido a la alabanza, ni deprimido por una crítica, ni afectado por las ganancias o las pérdidas. En cambio, uno mantiene la ecuanimidad.
Madame Indira Gandhi, le pidió a Panda presentarse a la elección para Miembro del Parlamento. ¿Saben lo que Panda dijo? "Madame, el ser un devoto de Sai es mucho, muchísimo más importante que ser Miembro del Parlamento." Y bien, ¡eso es transformación!
En otro ejemplo, un anterior Presidente de la Corte Suprema de Andhra Pradesh, Parthasarathy, fue invitado para dar una charla. ¿Saben lo que dijo?
"La gente me presenta como el Presidente de la Corte Suprema de Andhra Pradesh, mas no he venido acá en tal capacidad. El día que Swami me dijera que iba a ser el presidente de la Organización Sathya Sai, me sentí mucho más contento que cuando fui nombrado en ese otro cargo." ¡Eso es transformación!
Por mientras sintamos ansias de poder, renombre y fama y esas cosas, no será transformación. Cuando mi caneza está llena de información, no es transformación. El viaje espiritual confiere una experiencia que conduce hacia un fenomenal cambio interior sin que nos percatemos. Eso es verdadera transformación.
LA MISIÓN DE SAI Y SU CONTINUIDAD
Permítanme ahora decir algunas palabras acerca de la misión de Sai y su continuidad. Aquí está lo que Baba dijera al respecto : "Tu no eres el hacedor". Estoy seguro que el descubrir esto ha sido la experiencia de cada devoto alrededor del mundo. Es Él el que impulsa, realiza y decide, ¡les guste o no!
Alguien me preguntó, "Anil Kumar, cuenta usted con fondos suficientes para continuar con la misión de Sai en el futuro?"
Le dije a esa persona que las actividades de Sai Baba no se basan en fondos. Se basan en un reembolso, eso es todo. Nada de fondos, sólo reembolsos.
No tenemos que recibir finaciamiento de nadie. Decidimos entre amigos cualquier pequeña cosa que podamos hacer y luego lo hacemos. Eso es todo. No solicitamos fondos. La misión de Sai y su continuidad tendrá éxito debido a que su fortaleza no es financiera. Recuerden por favor, la fortaleza de
la misión de Sai es la fe, y definitivamente no las finanzas. (Aplausos)
LA NECESIDAD DEL MOMENTO : FORTALECER NUESTRA FE
Por ello, la necesidad del momento es el fortalecer nuestra fe. Hagamos que nuestra fe se haga cada vez más fuerte, cada vez más profunda, como para que la procesión de Sai avance majestuosamente y la misión de Sai continúe por siempre jamás.
Habiendo sido el traductor de Sai, conozco muchas de Sus declaraciones, como : "No Me pueden abandonar. No permitiré que Me dejen. Les daré caza y velaré por cumplir lo que Yo quiero a través de ustedes. Hasta entonces no podrán liberarse de Mí."
Por ello, amigos míos, no caben dudas acerca de esta misión, porque Él llamará e inspirará a la gente, hablándole desde sus adentros, a través de la voz interior, para velar por que las cosas se lleven a cabo.
NO DUDEN DE LA CONTINUIDAD DE LA MISIÓN DE SAI
Aquí hay otro ejemplo. Madhuri Shah era la Directora de las Becas Universitarias (UGC), el cuerpo central de la India que monitorea las actividades de todas las universidades. Ella vino a ver a Swami.
Swami le dijo, como si se tratara de un trozo de chocolate, "Madhuri, quiero una universidad, ¿Me darías una?" Madhuri dijo, "Eso es imposible, Swami." "¿Por qué?". preguntó Swami.
"Es imposible, porque ya existe una universidad en Anantapur; de modo que no puede construirse otra dentro de un radio de 40 millas. Simplemente no es posible, Swami."
Y esto fue lo que Swami dijo : "Madhuri, ¡es posible y tu la inaugurarás!"
Entonces ella dijo, "Swami, Te daré mi cabeza si quieres, mas no la universidad."
Swami dijo, "No quiero tu cabeza, porque está vacía. (Risas) Si tu cabeza estuviera llena, no dirías eso. Tendré la universidad para el año próximo, y tu la inaugurarás."
Gracias a la indescriptible voluntad Divina de Bhagavan Sri Sathya Sai Baba, se volvió una realidad. La dama había dicho que era imposible, mas Swami lo hizo posible, ¡y ella fue la invitada de honor para la inauguración!
Entonces, ¿por qué habríamos de dudar de la continuidad de la misión de Swami? Por favor sigan Su misión Avatárica, Su misión Divina.
ÉL CUMPLIRÁ SU MISIÓN . . . INCLUSO AHORA
Una persona muy importante de los Estados Unidos envió a un médico de nombre Robert Bonn Chuck a Prasanthi Nilayam para asistir a una Conferencia Internacional de Cardiología.
El doctor dijo, "Estoy aquí como emisario de tal y cual. Fui enviado para estudiar, para ver como se maneja este hospital. He estado aquí por los últimos tres días, mas no he sido capaz de entender cómo se las arregla este hospital para brindar una aistencia médica gratuita. Cirugía, diagnósticos, investigaciones patológicas y hospitalización son todos gratuitos. ¡Sólo Él podía hacerlo!"
Robert Bonn Chuck hizo entonces esta declaración en el dais del Mandir : "Es únicamente Sathya Sai Baba quien podría manejar un hospital como este. Ningún ser humano en la tierra podrá jamás emprender tal tarea, no es posible. ¡Únicamente Baba pudo hacerlo!" (Aplausos)
Swami fue a Bangalore para inaugurar el Hospital de Superespecialidades de allá. Le acompañé para traducir Su charla de esa tarde. El invitado de honor resultó ser Atal Bihari Vajpayee, el Primer Ministro de la India en ese tiempo. Otro invitado importante fue Rama Devi, Gobernador de Karnataka. Swami estaba sentado allí como un niño – Ananda Sai, Kalyana Sai, Leela Sai, Mahima Sai.
Vajpayee el Primer Ministro dijo, "Es imposible para el gobierno el construir un hospital de estas dimensiones ni en nueve años, ¡mas Baba lo hizo en 9 meses!" Esa es la Divinidad de Bhagavan Baba. (Aplausos) Mas la historia no termina ahí.
Rama Devi, el Gobernador de Karnataka, dijo: "Swami, el Gobierno de Karnataka aprobó un proyecto para construir un hospital hace siete años; ni siquera la mitad ha sido completada aún. Mas Tú lograste construir Tu hospital. ¿Cómo? Porque Tu res Bhagavan Sri Sathya Sai Baba."
De modo que no necesidad de poner en duda la continuidad de Su misión. Mis amigos, estoy seguro que Él inspirará a la gente desde adentro. Él no permitirá que descansen; Él cumplirá Su misión.
MANTENGAN NUESTRA FE
Si todo está dicho y hecho, ¿cuál es nuestro rol aquí? Algunos puden mostrarse algo críticos o escépticos frente a lo que digo, porque he dicho que Bhagavan lo hará. Entonces, ¿cuál es nuestro rol ?
Nuestra rol es el no perder la fe. Si pierdo la fe en mi mismo, es como perder mi vida. El tener fe
en uno mismo es lo mismo que tener fe en Baba. Esa fe es la base para este renacimiento. Esta fe es
el cimiento para nuestra transformación, para la misión espiritual que ha de venir en el futuro. De modo que nuestro rol es el mantener nuestra fe.
Eviten dejarse arrastrar por la prensa y los canales de TV que transmiten cosas que no son ciertas. En el momento de Su defunción, no obstante, ni los canales de TV ni los diarios criticaron a Swami. Nadie cuestionó Su Divinidad, ¡No! Lo que en realidad ponían en duda era la continuidad de Su misión, preguntándose : "Swami estableció la universidad, ¿mas continuará ella o no? Bhagavan construyó el hospital, ¿continuará este o no?"
Su curiosidad, preocupación y amor por Su misión les hizo cuestionar y dudar. Esta no es la primera vez para mí de hablarles al respecto. En la India, los canales de TV me bombardearon con preguntas. Mas no huí de ellos, porque, en el centro de todo, está la mision de Sai y su continuidad.
Mi sugerencia para los devotos es de no dejarse llevar por lo que dicen los 'medios', porque han escrito muchas cosas basados en sospechas y malentendidos.
Hay mucha gente que me pregunta, "¿Es cierto que algunos diarios escribieron artículos de ese corte?" Mi respuesta es, "¿No saben ustedes si es verdadero o falso? Dicen que han estado vinindo a Prasanthi Nilayam por los últimos veinticinco años, y sin embargo me preguntan si es verdad."
Supongan que digo, "Se ha escrito algo acerca de su padre o su madre. ¿Es cierto?" ¿No me dirían "¡Cállese! ¡Conozco a mi padre y a mi madre mejor que usted!"? ¡Esa debiera ser su convicción y nuestra respuesta! (Aplausos) No estoy preparado para aceptar cualquier cosa que se diga contra mi madre o mi padre, porque les conozco de cabo a rabo.
Matha Pitha Guru Daivamu Mari Anthayu Neeve.
La segunda cosa que hemos de cultivar hoy es esta : No debieran prestar oidos a ningún comentario de la prensa. Y, tercero, no sigan rumores y no presten oidos ni sigan a gentes que tengan poca fe.
LA VIDA ES UN SUEÑO, HÁGANLO REALIDAD
Aunque he hablado ya antes sobre este incidente, no me importa repetirlo, porque el devoto a quien concierne es hoy en día un gran líder. Hace mucho tiempo este individuo me dijo, "Señor, Swami apareció en mis sueños y me dijo que me casara con esta dama".
Al dia siguiente, dicha dama se me acercó y dijo, "Señor, Swami vino a mí en un sueño y me dijo que me casara con este hombre."
"¡Aha!, ¡han tenido unos buenos sueños!", dije.
Al tercer día les llamé a ambos : "No dudo de ti (apuntando al hombre) y tampoco te cuestiono a ti (apuntando a la joven). Swami quería que ustedes se casaran, ¿cierto?"
"Sí"
Entonces les pregunté, "¿En dónde dijo eso?"
"Lo dijo en mi sueño."
"Entonces, cásense en el sueño, ¡no aquí!" (Risas)
Algunos miembros del personal hablan acerca de sus sueños, y cuando les encuentro, tomo por otro camino. Uno de estos sujetos no lo entendía.
"Sr. Anil Kumar", dijo, "¿Por qué me evade?"
Le dije, "Swami me dijo en mi sueño que no te creyera." (Risas)
La vida es un sueño, ¡de modo que háganlo realidad! Es una ensoñación de dia y un sueño de noche. Los sueños no son importantes: el importante es el soñador. El soñador puede tener muchos sueños, mas a diferencia de los sueños, el soñador es contínuo. El soñador es el testigo. De modo que no sigan esos sueños ni rumores.
Escuché a alguien decir que Swami quería que construyera un templo, y que Swami dijo que Prema Sai ya había nacido. Él pensaba, '¡permíteme ir allá!' Por supuesto que Swami no le dijo a nadie tal cosa. ¿Debieran decirle alguien en un sueño ir allá? ¿No habría de decírselo directamente? Se sentirá Él temeroso de ustedes, o le tienen miedo ustedes a Él?
Swami ha dicho repetidas veces, "No hay nadie entre Yo y Mi devoto. Cualquier cosa que Yo quiera se lo comunicaré directamente, no a través de sueños o de una tercera persona. Yo no poseo a la gente."
Hace ya tiempo corrió el rumor que un joven iba a ser Vivekananda en el futuro, y mucha gente le fue a visitar. Hacían fila frente a su habitación para verle. Alguien se me acercó y dijo, "Anil Kumar, vamos a ver a Vivekananda."
Dije, "por el momento es 'Avivek-ananda' (significando 'no discriminación'). Cuando se convierta
en Vivekananda le irá a ver, no antes. No es sino un rumor, ¿de modo que para qué irías?" No sigan
esos rumores ni sueños. Esta es una sincera petición mía.
Swami tampoco está interesado en la construcción de nuevos templos; en su lugar mantengan los ya existentes.
SWAMI ESTÁ ESPERANDO RECIBIRLES
Algunos puede que pregunten, "¿Por qué van a Puttaparthi? Swami no está allí."
¿Por qué van a Shirdi? ¿Qué es lo que encuentran allí? Sólo encuentran Su Samadhi. ¿Qué es lo que encuentran en la Meca? Sólo la Kaaba, la piedra. ¿Qué es lo que encuentran en el Buda Gaya? Sólo árboles. ¿Qué es lo que encuentran en Darga? Sólo el Samadhi.
A.R. Rehman (el director musical), Amitab y Jaya Bacchan (familiar de un famoso actor) visitaron Kadapa Darga, en donde no se levanta sino el Samadhi. ¿Por qué? No es un Samadhi común. ¿Qué es lo que sale de un interruptor central? ¡Pongan sus dedos en él y lo sabrán! (Risas) ¿Qué hay allí? ¡El final!
De modo que cuando la gente pregunte, "¿Qué es lo que hay en Prasanthi Nilayam?" díganle, "Swami está allí, esperando recibirte y decir hola. Está esperando ver a Sus hijos expresar sus agradecimientos y su gratitud. Swami está esperando concederles todos sus desos." ¡Eso es el Sathya Sai Divya Maha Samadhi!
¿Qué es lo que consiguen visitando Jerusalem y Belén, Kashi y Tirupathi? Conseguirán todo-en-uno en el Sathya Sai Divya Maha Samadhi. Puedo declarar abiertamente lo siguiente. No teman, porque no quiero ningún favor de nadie. Se los digo abiertamente, de modo que cualquiera lo puede verificar en cualquier momento.
SIEMPRE EXISTENTE, SIEMPRE VIBRANTE Y SIEMPRE RADIANTE
Ahora se están produciendo más milagros que nunca antes. (Aplausos) En la Cantina de la India del Sur en Prasanthi Nilayam, hemos visto las pisadas de Bhagavan en la pared. Por el lado de las mujeres de la cantina, fluye néctar de la foto de Baba. En el Sundaram de Madras, encuentran las pisadas de Swami a todo lo largo del camino.
En la escuela primaria Sathya Sai un chico estaba enfermo y no podía dormir. Baba apareció en el cuarto y le dio algún medicamento y le dijo, "Hijo Mío, no te preocupes, estoy contigo. No molestes a la cuidadora, al director ni a los maestros. Hijo mío, estoy siempre contigo."
Ese es Sathya Sai Baba. Él no es el cuerpo físico, que aparece y desaparece. ¡Sathya Sai Baba es la divina energía cósmica, siempre-existente, siempre-vibrante y siempre-radiante! Eso es el Sathya Sai Maha Divya Samadhi.
Por ello, si cualquiera les preguntara, "¿Qué es lo que ven allí?" díganle simplemente, "¡Venga y experiméntelo por sí mismo!"
CONTINÚEN VISITANDO PRASANTHI NILAYAM
Continúen visitanto Prasanthi Nilayam. Les recargará. Todos usamos teléfonos celulares; cuando la carga baja, ¿qué hacemos? ¡Lo cargamos! De manera similar, cuando sus células se están agotando, vengan a Puttaparthi para recargarlas allí.
Arrodíllense ante el Samadhi, apoyen la frente en él y cuéntenme lo que pasa. Él está esperando allí por ustedes. Algunos sienten una corriente eléctrica, algunos experimentan vibraciones, algunos se sientesn consolados y apoyados y otros cobran fuerza haciendo el namaskar al Maha Samadhi, sintiendo allí Su Divina presencia.
La gente sufre dificultades para llegar hasta el Señor Venkateshwara, la Divinidad residente sobre la séptima montaña en Tirumala. Los peregrinos soportan mucho para ir a Sabarimala; mas debido al Señor Ayyapan, encuentran vigor allí. La gente arriesga su vida por ir a Kedamath y Badrinath (en los Himalayas) para recargar sus baterías espirituales. Todo ello está allí en el Sathya Sai Divya Maha Samadhi,
Por lo tanto, amigos míos, díganle a todos : "¿Por qué dicen que no hay nadie en Prasanthi Nilayam? Bhagavan está allí, esperándolos. Por favor, créanlo."
Cuando no asisto a bhajans porque tengo trabajo por hacer, me siento culpable. 'Tal vez Swami esté esperando por mí. De modo que mejor voy allá y termino este trabajo más tarde.', me digo a mí mismo.
Una vez, Swami pasó a mi lado en Su cuerpo físico y dijo, "Aha, ¡No estuviste acá ayer y tampoco esta mañana!"
El mismo Swami me echará de menos esta mañana y en la tarde. De manera similar, amigos míos, siéntanle y experiméntenle en el Divya Mahga Samadhi. Continúen su conexión con Él. Permitan
que la misión de Sai sea nuestro aliento de vida.
NUNCA SE PIERDAN UNA OPORTUNIDAD PARA SERVIR
No sé cuantos de ustedes aquí son de la Organización Sai. Puede que muchos no lo sean, de modo que quiero decirles que nosotros los voluntarios no recibimos fondos de ninguna parte. No somos pagados, aunque trabajamos contínuamente. y estamos por todo el mundo.
Los voluntarios de Sathya Sai estuvieron entre los primeros en visitar Bosnia (en su momento de necesidad). Los seva dals de Sathya Sai estuvieron entre el primer contingente que partió a Indonesia y Sri Lanka (después deltsunami). No se les pagó nada, ni gastos de viaje. Fueron por sí mismos, corriendo con todos sus gastos. Eso es Sathya Sai Baba. ¡En ninguna otra parte del mundo encuentran una organización así de voluntarios!
En Indonesia, la juventud Sai construyó 108 cisternas para agua. En Singapur, la juventud Sai está bien representada. En Argentina, el Sathya Sai Educare ha llegado a tales niveles que no tenemos ya nada que indicarles. ¡Saben más que todos nosotros acá! La actividad educacional Sathya Sai y las actividades de servicio Sathya Sai se llevan a cabo de manera global. Ya no son únicamente actividades locales.
Nuestro rol en la misión de Sai es el tener consciencia de lo que está sucediendo en todo el mundo y el nunca perder una oportunidad para servir. Algunas personas sienten que son muy importantes, y que sin ellas nada se haría. Bueno, mi respuesta para ellas ¡es que el trabajo será mejor sin ellas!
Alguna gente me pregunta, "Anil Kumar, ¿por qué vino usted donde Swami?" Sería un tonto respondiendo a una tal pregunta. Mi respuesta es que el mundo habría sido un lugar mucho mejor sin mí. Habría habido centenares de traductores a disposición de Swami, de modo que no soy indispensable.
Se me dio la oportunidad para servir. No es algo como para sentirs orgulloso, sino algo para sentirse agradecido de Él. Por eso, mis amigos, nunca renuncien a su actividad con la misión de Sai. Si se desentendieran ahora, habrán de arrepentirse por siempre. Esta oportunidad se les ha abierto gracias a méritos acumulados a lo largo de muchas vidas.
Si hay un movimiento basado en la unidad de las religiones, ese es el movimiento Sathya Sai. Enfatizando la unidad de las religiones, teniendo una organización de voluntariado activa por todo el mundo, y llevando a cabo el servicio Sai como sadhana, ¡son estas las 'super-especialidadess del movimiento Sai!

Dear Brothers and Sisters,
WHAT IS TRANSFORMATION?
What is transformation? There are many misconceptions about transformation. Is a non-vegetarian who becomes a vegetarian experiencing transformation? I don't think so. Can an alcoholic who becomes a teetotaller be considered transformed? No, it is not enough.
Some people ask me, “What has been the most noticeable transformation in your life since you have known Swami?” My answer is, “I never needed any transformation as I was good enough.”
So what is true transformation? True transformation is egolessness, absence of jealousy, absence of pride, not craving for power, and no arrogance. That is transformation.
There are some people who say, “Anil Kumar, after coming to Swami, I stopped eating brinjal curry.” That is not transformation!
Somebody said, “Anil Kumar, I have undergone transformation because I stopped eating bitter gourd.” I said, “You don't like it anyway, so that is not transformation!” (Laughter)
Some people also say, “Once a month, I don't take food on a Thursday.” I tell them, “Not eating once a month is still not enough. It is not transformation.”
Others say, “Thursday is Baba's day, so I don't eat, Saturday is Venkateshwara’s day (or Tuesday, Hanuman’s day), so I don't eat.”
I say, “Please stop eating. That will be your day—the final day!” (Laughter)
Such statements are not transformations. My friends, giving up an item at the breakfast table or at the dining table is not transformation.
Baba said in a poem (those who know Telugu will understand):
Ali Tho Aligi
Pastunnantha Maatraanna Apavasamu Aguna
When you have had a fight with your wife, you don't want to eat that night in order to express your anger. But then you cannot say the next morning, “I have been fasting.” Fighting with your wife is not religious transformation!
Preethitho Raathrantha Pekaadinantha Maatraana Jaagarana Aguna
By playing cards on Sivaratri, all night long, you cannot say that you have been vigilant. Whom are you cheating?
TRUE TRANSFORMATION
Transformation means feeling that you are nobody. It means seeing your own mistakes, and at the same time, noticing the talents in others. To be nobody . . . that is transformation.
Let’s look at external transformation. Some people have three parallel lines (referring to vibhutti marks on their foreheads). Then what about these other lines? (Professor Anil Kumar points to the lines on the palm of his hands.) And a zebra has lines all over its body! So, external marks or markings, even seen in the observance of rituals, are not enough. Perhaps they can be a beginning, like the first rung on a spiritual ladder.
There was a gentleman who donated a lot of equipment to the hospital in Puttaparthi. Do you know what that man said? “Swami, this equipment is not mine to give. It’s Yoursand it is enough if You accept it. Thank You, Swami.” That is transformation!
But other people will brag that they donated all their savings (or whatever it is) to Swami. Do you know what I say to them? “You will probably need to reincarnate 100 times more in order to undergo transformation.”
Therefore, my friends, this spiritual journey is an opportunity, an adventure, and a challenge—a journey from the known to the unknown. It is easy to travel from the known to the known. I know Malaysia and I know India. But if I were to travel to the moon, it would be an unknown environment. I don't know whether I would return or not.
TRANSFORMATION BRINGS EQUANIMITY
So this spiritual journey is a journey from the known to the unknown. It is quite risky and not that easy. But experience after experience will make you stronger and stronger, and then you won’t be carried away by the currents so easily. You won't sway like leaves in the slightest wind. You will remain like a boulder in the sea. The waves of the ocean crash against the boulders, but the boulders remain steady. This is what experience gives you—a sort of transformation, where you remain steady and blissful.
For example, there was a great scholar who was in charge of the yagna in Prashanthi Nilayam. Swami materialised a necklace for his wife. Everybody saw the necklace.
I thought to myself, ‘If I don’t enquire about the necklace, the scholar may feel that I am jealous of his wife. What should I do?’ So I approached the scholar and said, “Sir, I hear that Swami materialised a necklace for your wife.”
He replied, “The body is temporary like a water bubble. Do you think that this necklace will last forever? Do you believe that this chain is permanent, when the body itself is impermanent? Mr. Anil Kumar, I didn’t expect you to make such a query.”
I replied, “I did not want to get myself into trouble, sir. I knew that answer!"
A true transformation doesn't make you feel elated by praise, or depressed by blame, nor affected by profit or loss. Instead, you maintain equanimity.
Madam Indra Gandhi, requested Panda to run for election to become a Member of Parliament. Do you know what Panda said? “Madam, to be a Sai devotee is far, far greater than being a Member of the Parliament.” Now, that is transformation!
In another example, a former Chief Justice of the Andhra Pradesh High Court, Parthasarathy, was invited to give a talk. Do you know what he said?
“People introduce me as the Chief Justice of the Andhra Pradesh High Court. I am sorry, but I have not come here in that capacity. On the day when Swami told me that I would be the President of the Sathya Sai Organisation, I was more joyful than when I was nominated as Chief Justice of Andhra Pradesh High Court.” That is transformation!
As long as we crave power, name and fame and such, it is not transformation. When my head is full of information, it is not transformation. The spiritual journey confers an experience that leads to a phenomenal inner change without our knowledge. That is true transformation.
SAI MISSION AND ITS CONTINUITY
Now let me say a few words about the Sai mission and its continuity. Here is what Baba said about it: “You are not the doer.” I am sure discovering this has been the experience of every devotee all over the world. It is He who prompts, fulfils and decides, whether you like it or not!
Somebody asked me, “Anil Kumar, do you have sufficient funds to carry on Sai’s mission in the future?”
I told that person that the activities of Sai Baba are not based on funds. They are based on a refund, that’s all. No funds, only refunds.
We don't have to receive finances from anybody. We decide amongst friends whatever little we can do and then we do it. That's all. We do not raise funds. The Sai mission and its continuity will succeed because the strength of the Sai mission is not financial. Please remember, the strength of the Sai mission is faith, and definitely not finances. (Applause)
NEED OF THE HOUR: STRENGTHEN OUR FAITH
Therefore, the need of the hour is to strengthen our faith. Let our faith grow stronger and stronger, deeper and deeper, so that the Sai procession will move majestically and the Sai mission will continue forever and ever.
Having been Baba’s translator, I know many of His statements, such as: “You cannot leave Me. I will not allow you to leave Me. I will chase you and see to it that I accomplish what I want through you. Until then, you cannot be free from Me.”
Therefore my friends, there is no doubt about His mission, because He will call and inspire people, talking to them from within, through the inner voice, to get things done.
DO NOT DOUBT THE CONTINUITY OF SWAMI’S MISSION
Here is another example. Madhuri Shah was the Chairman of the University Grants (UGC), the apex body in India that monitors the activities of all universities. She came to see Swami.
Swami said, as if it were a piece of chocolate, “Madhuri, I want a university. Would you give Me one?”
Madhuri Shah said, “That is impossible, Swami.”
“Why?” Swami asked.
“It is impossible, because there is already a university in Anantapur; so another university cannot be built within a 40 mile radius. It is just not possible, Swami.”
Here is what Swami said: “Madhuri, it is possible and you will inaugurate it!”
Then she said, “Swami, I will give You my head if You want, but not the university.”
Swami said, “I don't want your head, because it is empty. (Laughter) If your head was full, you would not say that. I will have the university next year, and you will inaugurate it.”
By the indescribable Divine will of Bhagavan Sri Sathya Sai Baba, it became a reality. The lady said it was impossible, but Swami made it possible, and she was the chief guest for the inauguration!
So why should we doubt the continuity of Swami’s mission? Please follow His Avataric mission, His Divine mission.
HE WILL ACCOMPLISH HIS MISSION . . . EVEN NOW
A very important person from the United States sent a doctor by the name Robert Bonn Chuck to Prashanthi Nilayam to attend an International Cardiac Conference.
The doctor said, “I am here as an emissary of so-and-so. I was sent here to study, to see how this hospital is run. I have been here for the last three days, but I am not able to understand how this hospital manages to give free medical aid. Surgery, diagnosis, pathological investigations, and accommodation are all free. Only He could do it!”
Robert Bonn Chuck then made this statement on the dias in the Mandir: “It is only Sathya Sai Baba who could run a hospital like this. No human being on earth can ever undertake such a job, not a chance of it. Only Baba could do it!” (Applause)
Swami went to Bangalore to inaugurate the Sri Sathya Sai Super Specialty Hospital there. I accompanied Him in order to translate His talk that afternoon. The chief guest happened to be Atal Bihari Vajpayee, the Prime Minister of India at that time. Another important guest was Rama Devi, Governor of Karnataka. Swami was sitting there like a child—Ananda Sai, Kalyana Sai, Leela Sai, Mahima Sai.
Vajpayee the Prime Minister said, “It is impossible for the government to construct a hospital of this size even in 9 years, but Baba did it in 9 months!” That is the Divinity of Bhagavan Baba. (Applause) But the story doesn't end there.
Rama Devi, the Governor of Karnataka, said: “Swami, the Government of Karnataka undertook a project to construct a hospital seven years ago; not even half of it has been completed yet. But You managed to build Your hospital. How? Because You are Bhagavan Sri Sathya Sai Baba.”
So there is no need to doubt the continuity of His mission. My friends, I am sure that He will inspire people from within. He will not allow you to rest; He will accomplish His mission.
KEEP OUR FAITH
When all is said and done, what is our role here? Some people may be a little critical or sceptical about what I say, because I have said that Bhagavan will do it. So then, what is our role here?
Our role is to not lose faith. If I lose faith in myself, it’s like losing my life. Having faith in yourself is the same as having faith in Baba. That faith is the foundation for this renaissance. That faith is the foundation for our transformation, for the spiritual mission to come in the future. So our role is to keep our faith.
Avoid being carried away by the press and TV channels that broadcast things which are not true. At the time of His demise, however, neither the TV channels nor the newspapers criticised Swami. No one questioned His Divinity. No! They were actually doubting the continuity of His mission, questioning like this: “Swami started the university, but will it continue or not? Bhagavan started the hospital, so will it continue or not?”
Their curiosity, concern and love for His mission made them question and doubt. This is not the first time for me to I talk to you about this. In India, the TV channels bombarded me with questions. But I did not run away from them because, at the centre of it all, is the Sai mission and its continuity.
My suggestion to devotees is not to be carried away by what the media says, because they have written many things based on suspicion or misunderstanding.
There are many people who ask me, “Is it true that some newspapers wrote articles like that?”
I answer, “Don't you know whether it is true or false? You say that you have been coming to Prashanthi Nilayam for the past twenty-five years, and yet you ask me if it is true.”
Suppose I say, “Something is written against your father or mother. Is it true?” Would you not say, “Shut up! I know my father and mother better than you!” That should be our conviction and our answer! (Applause) I am not prepared to accept anything that is said against my mother or father, because I know them through and through.
Matha Pitha Guru Daivamu Mari Anthayu Neeve.
The second thing we have to cultivate today is this: You should not listen to any comments in the press. And thirdly, do not follow rumours, and do not listen to or follow people who have little faith.
LIFE IS A DREAM SO REALISE IT
Though I have talked about this incident before, I don’t mind repeating it, because the devotee concerned is a big leader today. Long ago this fellow told me, “Sir, Swami appeared in my dream, and told me to marry this lady.”
The next day that lady came to me and said, “Sir, Swami came to me in a dream and wanted me to marry this man.”
“Ahh, you have had some good dreams!” I said.
The third day, I called both of them: “I don’t doubt you (pointing to the man) and I don’t question you either (pointing to the girl). Swami wanted you to get married, right?”
“Yes.”
Then I asked them, “Where did He say it?”
“He said it in my dream.”
“So get married in the dream, not here!” (Laughter)
Some members of the staff speak about their dreams, and when I meet them, I go another way. One such fellow didn’t understand this.
“Mr. Anil Kumar,” he said, “why do you avoid me?”
I told him, “Swami told me in my dream not to believe you.” (Laughter)
Life is a dream, so realise it! It is a daydream with a night dream. Dreams are not important; the dreamer is important. The dreamer may have many dreams; but unlike dreams, the dreamer is continuous. The dreamer is the witness. So don’t follow those dreams and rumours.
I heard somebody say that Swami wanted him to construct a temple, and that Swami said Prema Sai is already born. He was thinking, ‘So let me go there!’ Of course Swami didn’t tell anybody that. Should you tell someone in a dream to go there? Shouldn’t you tell him directly? Is He afraid of you or are you afraid of Him?
Swami repeatedly said, “Nobody is between Me and My devotee. Whatever I want, I will communicate straightaway, not through dreams or a third person. I don’t possess people.”
A long time ago there was a rumour that a young fellow was going to be Vivekananda in the future, and many people were visiting him. They lined up outside his room to see him. Somebody came up to me and said, “Anil Kumar, let us go and see Vivekananda.”
I said, “He is ‘Avivek’-ananda (meaning, ‘no discrimination’) now. When he becomes Vivekananda, I will see him, not until then. It is only a rumour, so why should you go there?” Do not follow such rumours and dreams. That is my sincere appeal.
Also, Swami is not interested in the construction of new temples. He has already made an open statement: “The existing temples are not being taken care of properly. No priest is there to light the lamp and perform arathi. Do you want to construct another temple? The construction of temples has led to misunderstandings and fights. So there is no devotion there.”
Therefore, do not get carried away by the idea of constructing new temples; instead maintain the existing ones.
SWAMI IS WAITING TO RECEIVE YOU
Some people may ask, “Why do you go to Puttaparthi? Swami is not there.”
Why do you go to Shirdi? What do you find there? You only find His Samadhi. What do you find in Mecca? Only Kaba, the stone. What do you find in Buddha Gaya? Only trees.What do you find in Darga? Only the Samadhi.
A.R. Rehman (the music director), Amitab and Jaya Bacchan (famous actor’s family) visited Kadapa Darga, where there is only the Samadhi. Why? It is not an ordinary Samadhi. What comes out of a main electrical switch? Put your fingers there and you’ll know! (Laughter) What is there? The end!
So if people ask, “What is there in Prashanthi Nilayam,” tell them, “Swami is there, waiting to receive you and to say hello. He is waiting to see His children express their thanks and gratitude. Swami is waiting to grant all your desires.” That is Sathya Sai Divya Maha Samadhi!
What do you get by visiting Jerusalem and Bethlehem, Kashi and Tirupathi? You will get all-in-one at Sathya Sai Divya Maha Samadhi. I can openly declare this. I have no fear, because I don’t want any favours from anyone. I am telling you this openly, so anybody can verify it at anytime.
EVER-EXISTENT, EVER-VIBRANT, AND EVER-RADIANT
More miracles are happening now than ever before. (Applause) In the South Indian canteen in Prashanthi Nilayam, we have seen the footsteps of Bhagavan on the wall. On the ladies side of the South Indian canteen, nectar is flowing from Baba’s photo. At Sundaram in Madras, you find Swami’s footprints all along the way.
A Sathya Sai primary school child was ill and could not sleep. Baba appeared in his room, gave him some medicine and said, “My child, don’t worry, I am with you. Don’t disturb the warden, the principal or your lecturers. My child, I am ever with you.”
That is Sathya Sai Baba. He is not the physical body, which appears and disappears. Sathya Sai Baba is the Divine, cosmic energy, ever-existent, ever-vibrant, and ever-radiant! That is Sathya Sai Maha Divya Samadhi.
Therefore, if anyone asks you, “What do you see there?” just tell them, “Come and experience for yourself!”
CONTINUE TO VISIT PRASHANTHI NILAYAM
Continue visiting Prashanthi Nilayam. It will recharge you. We all use cell phones; when the charge is running out, what do we do? We charge up our phone! Similarly, when your cells are running out, come to Puttaparthi to recharge there.
Kneel down before the Samadhi, touch your forehead to it, and tell me what happens. He is waiting for you there. Some people feel an electric current, some people experience vibrations, some feel consoled and supported, and some draw strength by doing namaskar to the Maha Samadhi, feeling His Divine presence there.
People go through struggles to reach Lord Venkateshwara, the Divinity residing on the seventh hill in Tirumala. Pilgrims endure at lot to go to Sabarimala; but because of LordAyyapan, strength is found there. People risk their lives to go to Kedarnath and Badrinath (in the Himalayas) to charge their spiritual batteries. All that is there in Sathya Sai Divya Maha Samadhi!
So, my friends, tell everybody: “Why do you say that there is nobody in Prashanthi Nilayam? Bhagavan is there, waiting for you. Please believe this.”
When I don’t attend bhajans because I have work to do, I feel guilty. ‘Maybe Swami is waiting for me. So, I better go there and carry on this work later,’ I tell myself.
Once Swami passed by me in His physical body and said, “Ah, you were not here yesterday and you were not here this morning either!”
The same Swami will miss me this morning and in the evening. Similarly my friends, feel Him and experience Him at the Divya Maha Samadhi. Continue your connection with Him. Let the Sai mission be our life breath.
NEVER MISS A CHANCE TO SERVE
I don’t know how many of you here are from the Sai Organisation. Many of you may not be, so I want to tell you that we volunteers don’t receive funds from anywhere. We are not paid, though we work continuously, and are all over the world.
Sathya Sai volunteers were among the first to visit Bosnia (in their hour of need). Sathya Sai seva dals were among the first batch off to Indonesia and Sri Lanka (after thetsunami). They were not paid any travel expenses, nothing. They went on their own, spending their own money. That is Sathya Sai Baba. Nowhere else in the world do you find such a voluntary organisation!
In Indonesia, 108 water tanks were built by the Sai youth. In Singapore, the Sai youth is well represented. In Argentina, Sathya Sai Educare has risen to such heights that we cannot tell them anything. They know more than all of us here! Sathya Sai educational activity and Sathya Sai service activities are happening globally. They are no longer only local activities.
Our role in the Sai mission is to be aware of what is going on in the entire world and to never miss the chance to serve. Some people feel that they are very important, and that without them nothing will be done. Well, my answer to them is that the work will be better without them!
Some people ask me, “Anil Kumar, why have you come to Swami?”
I would be a fool to reply to such a question. My answer is that the world would have been a better place without me. The Sai movement would have been much better without me. There would have been hundreds of willing translators available to Swami, so I am not indispensable.
I have been given an opportunity to serve. It is not something to feel proud about, but something to feel grateful to Him for. Therefore my friends, never give up your activity with the Sai mission. If you drop out now, you may have to repent forever and ever. This opportunity has been given to you because of merits accrued over several lives.
If there is any movement based on the unity of religions, it is the Sathya Sai movement. Emphasising the unity of religions, having an active and worldwide voluntary organisation, and doing Sai service as sadhana, these are the ‘super-specialties’ of the Sai movement!
