"The term' Devi' represents the Divine power which has taken the Rajasic form to suppress the forces of evil and protect the Satvic qualities. When the forces of injustice, immorality and untruth have grown to monstrous proportions and are indulging in a death-dance, when selfishness and self-interest are rampant, when men have lost all sense of kindness and compassion, the Atmic principle, assuming the Form of Shakti, taking on the Rajasic quality, seeks to destroy the evil elements. This is the inner meaning of the Dasara festival."

Deserve to serve
We had just returned after a visit to a children's home in Fiji, as Swami does not like any one being called an orphan, for He is there for every one. It was heartening to hear the lovely 41 children singing hymns. The matron of this home called 'Dilkusha' was very thankful to the Sai Prema Foundation of Fiji, which was taking care of the children's health, and also providing necessities like fans and good food.
Swami was talking to the doctor who was a part of this Seva when He said, "Aye doctor! Medicine must be given in the right dosage to cure the disease, isn't it? If given more, it will cause harm, and if given less, it won't have the desired effect. Likewise, Sev should also be done carefully, over-serving may ruin their habits, and under-serving may not be helpful. So you should assess the need and serve accordingly, just as you would diagnose the patient carefully and prescribe medication."
Swami went on to say, "The scriptures declare that one must give with sincerity (Shraddhaya Deyam) , give with humility (Hriya Deyam), give enough (Shriya Deyam), and also give with the knowledge of the need and use (Samvida Deyam). So doing Seva requires great care and precaution, to ensure that it serves the right need in the right way. A Sevak or the Seva volunteer has to be very careful. For instance, if you simply give chocolates and ice creams to children just because they like it, and not proper balanced diet then it will harm more, and help less", Swami added.
This reminded me of the day He asked me, "Do you deserve to serve?" That question set me thinking as I thought to myself, 'are my willingness and abilities not enough to serve?'
But today when Swami explained about how one must serve, I truly understood that in order to serve, I must deserve to be a servant, and must first learn how Seva should be done in the right way.
The festival of Navaratri is a magnificent and glorious celebration of Shakti or the female aspect of Divinity. The festival commemorates the victory that Para-Shakti, immanent in the microcosm and macrocosm, achieved over the asuric or the evil forces. It is celebrated throughout India in great pomp and festivity and while some fast and others feast, in Muddenahalli, the students and devotees from all around the world gathered in the Hrudaya Mandiram Auditorium in the early hours of the morning eagerly waiting to celebrate Navaratri with mother Goddess, Sai Mata Herself.
The auditorium staged a beautiful idol of Goddess Durga and other major deities like Lord Ganesha, and the Goddesses Saraswathi and Lakshmi. The first day of the Navaratri is dedicated to Shailaputri, the daughter of the Himalayas, who is the first form of Shakti. As the reverberating Vedic chants filled the air with Divine energy, Bhagawan arrived, blessing the devotees while also inspecting the beautiful decoration, be it the colourful Ganesh Rangoli, or the Golu where the Dussehra dolls were....

DUSSEHRA CELEBRATIONS SEPTEMBER 22, 2017 (DAY 2)
Morning session:
The second day of the Navaratri celebrations started off with much enthusiasm and spiritual fervour. The Divine mother was worshipped as Brahmacharini on this day. Brahmacharini, who is the second aspect of Goddess Durga, is engrossed in penance and austerities and grants upon us enlightenment. The day saw two rituals- Pavamana Homa and Ashlesha Bali Homa being performed at Sri Sathya Sai Hridaya Mandiram.
The significance of Pavamana Homa is to purify one’s inner self thereby promoting and aiding in one’s spiritual Sadhana. As part of this Homa, six hundred and ten select verses from the Rig Veda were chanted as Pavamana mantras to cleanse oneself and make the heart and mind pure so that it is fit for God to reside.
Ashlesha Bali Homa is a ritual performed to destroy the ill effects caused by the serpent’s curse. For this particular Homa, a mandala or rangoli in the form of a serpent was drawn. Even as we are born, we carry along with us certain Karmas and bondages of previous lives and those of our ancestors as well. The Ashlesha Bali Homa helps to negate and destroy all such misdoings from our past and promote a healthy, happy and a holy life.
Bhagawan arrived at the venue and was welcomed with Nadaswaram amidst Vedic chants. As He came blessing the devotees, He also inspected.... To know more, click HERE

NAVARATRI CELEBRATIONS SEPTEMBER 23, 2017 (DAY 3)
Morning session:
As the dawn broke, all the devotees and students gathered in Sathya Sai Hridaya Mandiram auditorium for the third day of the Navaratri celebrations. The entire place was resonating with Divine vibrations and one could feel the presence of the Divine mother and father. The third day of the Navaratri is dedicated to Chandraghanta, the married form of Goddess Parvathi. It is said that Her third eye is always open to ward off all the demons and asuras who approach. Prayers to this form of Shakti gives one grace, courage and valour.
Two Homas were conducted in Bhagawan’s Divine presence in the morning, the first being the Dhanvantari Homa. Mother nature caters to the needs of every being on the planet. Whenever any man or animal falls ill, the required herbs are obtained from the bosom of mother nature. Several of these ingredients were offered at the sacrificial pit of the Dhanvantari Homa. Prayers were offered to Lord Dhanvantari, the Divine doctor, to grant freedom from physical and mental illnesses and also to get rid of the Bhava Roga, the worldly problems faced due to the cycle of birth and death. The sacred ash of this Homabestows one with all the fulfilment, physical and mental health along with recharging the entire environment.
Thereafter, Vishnu Sahasranama Homa was performed. Vishnu Sahasranama was given by Bheeshma Pitamaha to Yudhishtira about the...

DUSSEHRA CELEBRATIONS SEPTEMBER 24, 2017 (DAY 4)
Morning session:
The fourth day of Navaratri at Sathya Sai Grama, Muddenahalli, teemed with vibrant and holy energy everywhere. By Bhagawan’s grace, devotees could experience the Homams along with the well-known Durga Puja observed in West Bengal. Swami arrived at Hridaya Mandiram, bringing a beaming smile on the face of devotees waiting to welcome the Lord.
The Lakshminarayana Homam was performed to bestow the eight kinds of wealth needed by man in the physical world. Through this Homam, one also prays to Moksha Lakshmi to confer upon man liberation from the bondage of the world.
After the Homam, the Durga Aarti was performed accompanied by the Dhunuchi dance and the rhythmic play on the Dhaks to appease and invoke the blessings of the powerful Goddess.
At the end of the morning celebration, the Mangala Arati was offered to Bhagawan after which Swami graciously collected letters from the gathering, before leaving for His residence.

HOW DOES LISTENING TO THE GLORIES OF THE LORD BENEFIT US? DIVINE DISCOURSE SUMMARY – NAVARATRI – SEPTEMBER 21, 2017
To listen to the glories of the Lord is a great fortune. Listening to the glory of the Lord has been praised as the finest kind of devotion. By just listening to the name of the Lord, one can attain the highest. It is indeed your good fortune that you are able to listen to this great epic of Bhagavatham. When you listen to Bhagavatham, you become better.Shravanam or listening is the first step. After that, Mananam – contemplation on what you have listened to – is extremely important. After contemplating on the meaning of what you have heard, you must also put it into practice – that is called Nidhidhyasanam. Therefore, Shravanam, Mananam, Nidhidhyasanam – all these three are very important to truly benefit from all that you are listening to today.
To escape from this cycle of death and birth which is of extreme pain and sorrow, one must engage oneself in good deeds like listening to the name and the glory of the Lord. Because this world is temporary, because this world is full of sorrow, leaving all this, remember Me – that is what Lord says.
(In your youth), you have tremendous strength of the body, sharpness of the mind, purity of the heart – using all these three, head, heart and hand, you must remember the Lord. Don’t waste your childhood in mere games and youth in the pursuit of paltry pleasures. For, when the old age comes, all that you will... To know more, click HERE
HOW DO YOU AVOID DOING EVIL? DIVINE DISCOURSE SUMMARY NAVARATRI – SEPTEMBER 22, 2017
There is one common unique feature or characteristic of every Divine incarnation. That is nothing but His infinite love for His devotees. It is for the sake of devotees that God comes down to earth with many names and with many forms.
God who is so mysterious, indescribable and He cannot be understood by anybody, a small boy like Prahlada, could win him over. That is because of the love and devotion of Prahlada. Only for those people with that kind of devotion, God is always there. The first thing is you should think of God at all times, at all places. As long as we are thinking of God, we cannot do anything that is wrong. Because we forget God, many times we enter into evil and wrong paths. As long as we are thinking of God, chanting His name, we can never ever be tempted to enter the wrong path. All wrong things we commit because we forget God, forget chanting His name. Therefore, we should never ever forget God. If worst of the sinners (a robber and murderer) could evolve into a great saint and a sage who composed Ramayana, it was the power of the name of Rama. If even a sinner can attain that kind of sainthood by chanting the name of Rama, if we chant Rama’s name, how much more fulfilment we can find in our lives! When we put this light of name of Rama on our tongue, it gives light outside also, and it also illumines our inner world. It purifies both the external world and the inner being.
Why God has given us this life. In order to chant the name of God, we are given this life. The chanting should emanate from the depths of your mind and heart. Then it will purify the inner...
HOW TO THINK OF GOD ALL THE TIME? DIVINE DISCOURSE SUMMARY NAVARATRI – SEPTEMBER 23, 2017
A person who does not have purity of heart, purity of mind, will never realise the Atma. First and foremost, on the spiritual path, what is required is purity of the inner being. In order to achieve this purity of mind, purity of heart, good company is very important. Only in good company you will get good thoughts. Only when you get into good company, you can attain some detachment in your life. From detachment comes a steady mind. When you have a steady mind you will attain liberation. If you want to attain salvation, liberation in your life, the first step is to get into good company.
If you want to change your qualities, it is necessary you get into good company. When you come to an Ashram like this and participate in Satsang in the company of good people, it will give you real strength. If Divine qualities have to manifest in our personality, it is necessary we get into good company. Lot of people get into good company but only their bodies are there in good company, mind is going elsewhere. The body is sitting quietly. The mind is roaming all around. If you get into a good company like this, it is of no use. Just sitting in Satsang is not good enough. The mind also should be.... To know more, click HERE
