Viaje a Nueva Delhi_04-2010_por Aravindb_ Parte 4.

Delhi Tour with Sathya Sai - Part 4.

Swami arrived out of the school building. Outside the building, the children had got ready in the meanwhile to make their little presentation. The children were all from the Delhi slums who were now being educated in a Sathya Sai Primary school and they all seemed aware that this was the biggest moment of their lives.

The entire area had been red carpeted and as soon as Swami arrived, they began their programme. A few kids came forward and presented a card to Swami wherein they had expressed gratitude to Him for the golden opportunity. Now, Swami sat seeing them dance to devotional songs. I moved to the area behind the children and became a sort of a backdrop. But the stage was small and my angle gave a nice view of the proceedings there. So I sat there and took pictures. Swami saw two songs and dances and asked whether the programme was over.

Hope you came here reading the previous parts....

Delhi Tour - Part 3

Watching the cultural programme by the children

Mr.Cheema told Swami that there was one more dance and Swami nodded in agreement. Thus, the final dance was also done. The dances ranged in themes like the unity of religions and the glory of Sharada Mata. The children were smiling and dancing in all their sweetness and innocence. After the dances, Swami began to move down the ramp towards His residence. He blessed all the children on His way down.

There was a lady who appeared to be the Bal vikas teacher for these children. She was in tears throughout the programme. I felt it was as if she knew best the plight of these children and also knew the grandeur and grace of the bounty of darshan being showered on them today.

As Swami moved down the ramp, everyone took namaskar. Shockingly, one person threw his visiting card onto Swami’s lap in a desperate attempt to catch His attention. D picked up the card from Swami's lap and fixed that old man with a stare. (It is difficult to say what is right or wrong in the Divine Presence. Though that person seemed audacious and disrespectful Swami alone knows what is happening in his life!)

Crossing the path, Swami moved up the slope on the other side into the main building. At the entrance of this building was a beautiful altar with a smiling full frame picture of Swami that R, my colleague had taken. I took a picture of Swami and the altar knowing that R would be delighted back home to see it.

The opening altar at the entrance of Swami's residence building

Swami moved up straight to the dining hall for lunch. The lunch session turned out to be one in which we would get our first opportunity for creating a good chat with Swami. We entered the dining hall and very elaborate lunch had been laid out in silver plates and bowls. I counted about 12 bowls in my plate. Added to it were items on the plate too! It was so royal a feeling that I got and I knew that if not for Swami, I would not even dream of dining like this. I sat on the second chair, facing my back to Swami. On His command, we started chanting the Brahmaarpanam prayer. After that, we began to eat.

Towards the end, the All India President (AIP) asked Swami whether the boys could go for sightseeing. Swami asked as to where we would be going. He told Swami that we would be going to the Qutb Minar, Red fort and the Parliament house. He was corrected by Mr.Cheema who said that Red Fort was at the other end. So we would be visiting the India Gate instead. Swami then told us that we could go either in the afternoon or the next day morning. AIP came in again asking whether the boys could leave today for some places and the next day for the others. Swami agreed and looking at me said, “No need to sleep and all that now. Go slowly and see everything.” Then, He asked AIP, “By when will they be back?”

“Swami by 3:30pm.”

Swami nodded to say no, “That cannot be possible. See everything slowly and come.” I was looking at Swami and smiling all the while.

Swami then told us to rise and wash our hands. The elders went first and we followed suit. I went back after washing hands to fetch my camera that was on the table. Swami saw J who also came in to retrieve something. I was hoping that He would look at me but knowing that ( I think) He did not see me! He told J to get moving fast. Thus we all left. Just before we left, AIP conveyed to us Swami’s instructions, “Go quietly, enjoy and come back. Be back by 3:30pm. Do not look here and there, especially at the ladies.”

At the India Gate with the genial Prof.Anil Kumar

The sightseeing was nice and not as bad as we thought it would be on a hot afternoon. First we went to the India gate and it was an impressive structure. Erected in honour of the soldiers who had given up their lives in war, it was an imposing edifice. The names of many soldiers who had become martyrs had been inscribed on it. There was also a flame that was kept burning 24X7 in their honour. We took a lot of pictures there. Next we visited the Parliament house and Rashtrapati bhavan. We concluded with a trip to the fascinating Qutb Minar. The Qutb Minar is something of a marvel. The experiences there were equally interesting.

At the gate, CG was stopped and told that “movie” camera was not allowed. We could see that many people were carrying in handycams and so said that in case a ticket needs to be purchased, we would do so. The answer stated was, “Your camera is not allowed for it has a stand and hence becomes a movie camera.” I was shocked. The monopod under the camera had earned its disqualification from entry into the Qutb! Was reminded of what Swami says that though technology has grown, people’s minds and hearts haven’t! The incident was soon forgotten once we entered the courtyard.

It was such an intricately carved monument and no wonder it has been preserved as a world heritage site. I marvelled at Qutb-ud-din-Aibak, the first ruler of the slave dynasty whose reign lasted a mere four years, who had planned the monument more than 800 years earlier. Took a few pictures with the monument but it simply dwarfed us in every way!

At the imposing Qutb Minar

On the return journey, we had volunteers explaining to us about the various roads, streets and markets in Delhi. This became a regular feature - the ‘tourist guide’ volunteer! Every time we went out, we would have different volunteers accompany us. And each time we would be subject to , “This is the best market in Delhi - you get everything here”, “This flyover has been completed in record time.”, “This is where you must do your electronics shopping.”, etc. The guiding had become so monotonous for we more or less had travelled the same routes in and out of the International Centre. A few among us specialised in this “tourist guide” task and would often distribute information even before the eager guide volunteers could! We had a laugh at this often and SK was our in-house guide specialist. He would keep saying “Abhi aapke left par......” ( Here to your left is....) or “Aage Aap dekh rahe hain.....” ( Straight ahead you see....) and so on.

It was 3:30pm when we returned from our sightseeing. We had been told to be ready by 3:45pm but everyone just entered the rooms and fell flat on the beds. I somehow felt that we may have to go early and thus I got ready. In a short while we got the message that “Swami is waiting”! And once again there was hectic activity all around.

Happy at my decision, I moved to the auditorium at the ground floor of Swami’s building. All others filed in and we decided that from tomorrow onwards atleast, we would have a stipulated time by which we would all get ready and wait outside His room. In another few minutes, the call came for us to rush up.

Swami was already at His table and seeing us, He told us to enter. Even before we reached our chairs, He asked us what we saw. JK told Swami that we saw the Qutub Minar.

“What is that?”, Swami asked. In response, many offered explanations.

“A long Stambham Swami! “

“It’s a tall structure.”

As the explanations went on St said, “Swami they went to Qutub Minar, India Gate and the Rashtrapati bhavan.” SK who was in the front told Swami, “We saw the parliament house too.” “You went into the parliament?” , asked Swami.

“No Swami, we saw it from outside only.”

Swami then began to ask CG and P too as to what they saw. P thought Swami asked him where he came from and said, “Hyderabad.”

Swami asked, “You saw Hyderabad and came?”, and smiled. We shared His smile!

The tiffin session then began with a Brahmaarpanam. As we ate, SK nicely induced Swami into chatting. It began with Swami asking him as to where he had been. He said the same answer. When Swami asked D's father as to where he went, SK answered on his behalf, “Swami he too came with us. We all were together.”

SK then continued, “Swami when you made the visit to North India in 1973, videos have been taken. Swami went to Delhi, Mogha and Shimla. Swami is seen walking so fast amidst everyone.” He was nicely using the first few lines of his commentary in the DVD and for those who did not know, it was like a spontaneous flow of beautiful Telugu!

Swami now began His elaborate response. And embedded in His response was a STARTLING REVELATION!

Watch out for the fifth part of this memorable trip. The revelation is sure to thrill every reader! ;)

People are eager to get happiness and when there is a prospect of earning undiminishing happiness, many people jump at the idea. But soon they are tired of the effort required, and seek shortcuts. Sometimes they lean on others to carry their weight and aspire for much fruit in return for very little cultivation. Some efforts here and there, such as listening to discourses or making speeches will not be sufficient. Rigorous discipline and steady faith are absolutely necessary for success in the spiritual journey. You must control your senses, which drag your mind towards the attractions of the external world. To have steady faith, one must control the wayward mind that paints attractive pictures in false colours to lure you on from birth to birth.
