Actualizado Viernes, 15 de julio 2011, 20:50 Hrs. IST Programa de la noche: La sesión vespertina se inició con la recitación védica a las 16:30hrs. A las 17.00 hs horas el Prof. Anil Kumar ha anunciado los artistas de la noche, Smt. Aruna Sairam y Sri Hansraj Hans. SMT. Aruna Sairam tiene una de esas voces raras que se adaptan a todos los géneros de canto con la perfecta compatibilidad. No había ninguna señal de su acento en las canciones de su pasado Carnatic al bengalí y de regreso a Bhajans con cada canción con un toque autóctono, a pesar de que pertenecían a todas las regiones del país. Un rendimiento realmente inspirado, que dejó al público pidiendo más. Sri Hansraj Hans, que había cantado frente a Bhagavan durante la reciente visita de Bhagavan Delhi, ofreció una actuación enérgica en su único estilo contemporáneo de la música sufí. Con todo su ser en sintonía con la música, envió a la Asamblea presente, en un trance de éxtasis devocional. Fue realmente un desempeño adecuado de las circunstancias. Sri Bhagwati, administrador senior de Sri Sathya Sai Central Trust y Smt. Ratanlal, un devoto mayor de Bhagavan, honró a los artistas al final de su actuación. Los programas fueron seguidos por bhajans y el Arathi, para concluir he iniciar, con el Darshan del Mah Samadhi nuevo para el público. Actualizado Viernes, 15 de julio 2011; 12:30 Hrs. IST Programa de la mañana : La gran fiesta de Guru Purnima, el día en que la mente, presidida por la luna que brilla en todo su esplendor, es con humildad, ofrecida a los pies de loto del Guru, Bhagavan Sri Sathya Sai Baba, que también era nuestro amigo, nuestro compañero y nuestro Señor . Este también fue un día memorable en Prashanti, por otra razón muy importante. Este fue el día elegido para ser revelado al publico el Maha Samadhi del cuerpo físico. El programa se inició a las 07:30 horas con Canto Védico. El Salón Sai Kulwant, que estaba lleno a plena capacidad , con la devoción de miles sentados allí. Aquellos que no podían estar sentados en la sala fueron conducidos a la continua sala del Poornachandra, donde una transmisión en vivo les permitió ver en la pantalla los acontecimientos en el Salón Sai Kulwant.  A las 08:00 horas en punto, las cortinas rojas que adornaban el centro del escenario, se abrieron para dejar ver la magnífica estructura que albergaba la cuerpo física del Avatar de la Era. La parte principal de la Mahasamadhi es rectangular revestido de mármol blanco puro, el monumento de 9 pies de largo, y 6 pies de ancho y 2 pies 2 pulgadas de alto, se encuentra exactamente sobre el lugar de descanso final. Esto a su vez se encuentra en el centro de una plataforma de mármol blanco 6 pulgadas de alto, 21 pies de largo y 12 pies de ancho. Dos grandes pilares, sostienen el techo también revestido con mármol blanco y decorado con buen gusto. La superficie restante de la terraza también se ha rehecho en mármol blanco. Los dos flancos del pórtico se han rehecho con mármol de color verde oscuro, con un borde de mármol blanco. Los estudiantes de Instituto Sri Sathya Sai de Educación Superior inspirados por la visión comenzó a cantar Stothrams (himnos) en alabanza del divino Guru. Intercalados con las experiencias, los alumnos salieron a cantar una variedad de canciones de varios géneros en alabanza de la Unidad. Al término de este programa, Sri Kumar Kamaraju presentó a los dos exponentes de la jornada, Leonardo Gutter , un psicólogo y un miembro del Consejo de Prashanti de Argentina y Sri Nimish Pandya , el presidente del distrito de Mumbai. Sri Leonardo Gutter habló sobre los cuatro grandes bendiciones de los devotos. Por nacer como un ser humano, por ser contemporáneo de el Avatar, por ser consciente de su divinidad y por ser su instrumento elegido. También se refirió a los devotos que venían a criticar y regresó abrumado por el amor del Señor. Sri Nimish Pandya después de expresar su gratitud a Bhagavan, por las múltiples bendiciones que ha recibido de él, habló con claridad acerca de las actividades del Sri Sathya Sai Central Trust y luego dijo cómo este a influido en la Organización Sri Sathya Sai en todo el mundo. Él declaró enfáticamente que nadie ha inspirado a millones de personas en todo el mundo, para servir a los demás seres humanos, como Bhagavan Sri Sathya Sai Baba lo ha hecho, y que junto con sus diversos proyectos es el legado que nos dejó. El profesor Anil Kumar, quien fue el maestro de ceremonias, dio las gracias por los altavoces y felicitó a los estudiantes por su presentación temática. Un par de bhajans continuaron y prasadam fue distribuido a los presentes. El Arathi se ofreció a 10:30hrs. Y se hizo un anuncio sobre la nueva Radio Sai en Telugu. Los detalles se pueden encontrar aquí . Al final del anuncio, los devotos se les permitió entrar en las filas y tener el Darshan del Maha Samadhi de cerca. Programas de música por los estudiantes y otros artistas continuaron en la sala, mejorando el ambiente de la sala. Conciertos de música por SMT Aruna Sairam y Sri Hansraj , estaba programado para la noche, que comienza con la recitación védica a las 16:30 hrs.

Fue una mezcla de sentimientos, un momento de alegría y dolor que se vivió
esta mañana en Gurupoornima 2011.
El festival de Gurupoornima es siempre una fiesta especial para todos nosotros y seguramente
Swami sera recordado en esta fiesta especial por las futuras generaciones, como la revelacion de su
Mahasamadhi en este día especial.
La sala estaba muy bien decorada, en esta ocasión. Parthi estaba decorada con flores, hojas de mango, tallos de banano estaban atados en varios lugares.
Había tanta ansiedad en el aire. Los devotos comenzaron a entrar en tropel a la sala de Sai Kulwanth desde la mañana temprano.
Los jóvenes que están aquí por la Conferencia de la Juventud, se les dio un asiento especial al lado de la puerta opuesta a la tarima. Los devotos comenzaron a entrar respetuosa y ordenadamente.Para asistir a este festival que se convirtió en santo, muy especial debido a los la presentación del Mahasamadhi, devotos de todo el mundo llegó a Parthi.
El programa comenzó con cánticos Vedicos por los estudiantes de la Universidad de Swami a las 7.30 AM.
En la tarima había enormes pantallas blancas (durante la construcción del Mahasamadhi) se limitan ahora una cortina de color granate, que todos vimosdurante los últimos ritos de Swami.
Como todos los devotos esperaban ansiosamente la inauguración, exactamente comenzo a las 8 cuando el hermano Veda Narayana y el sacerdote de Prasanthi, ofrecieron el Arathi al samadhi de
Swami a ambos lados, las cortinas estaban a ambos lados.
Como todo el mundo unieron sus manos en éxtasis, algunos llorando, gritando ¡Oh Swami, otros dijeron, Sairam!, cuando el Mahasamadhi del Poorna Avatar Bhagavan Sri Sathya Sai Baba.

El Samadhi, está construido con mármol blanco, con bordes dorados, aquí y allá, fue fascinante de
ver. Tanto los pilares a ambos lados también de mármol blanco con bordes de color oro, el ídolo de
Ganesha que solía estar allí en el estrado se ha eliminado.
Una guirnalda enorme fue colocado en el Maha Samadhi y diferentes flores fueron colocados en
ambos lados del Mahasamadhi . Justo enfrente de la Mahasamadhi fue escrito "AMA A TODOS
SIRVE A TODOS" .
Una bella imagen de Swami, probablemente de mármol, fue colocado en el medio, en el lugar del ídolo a Ganesha y en ambos lados se encendieron luces.
La foto estaba casi en el medio del camino detrás del ídolo de Ganesha, que utiliza para llevar a la
sala de entrevistas. Ahora, sólo un pequeño camino se ha dejado a la sala de entrevistas, que dio
mucho espacio y también algo de elevación al Mahasamadhi.
Después de la presentación, los estudiantes cantaron hermosas canciones, la primera canción
después de la inauguración fue Sathya Dhramamu Shanthi premalatho mee nithya jeevana Yatra saginchu ..
Más tarde, los estudiantes continuaran con el programa titulado VANDANA GURU, en donde
a dos estudiantes se turnaban para compartir algunos incidentes de sus vidas con representaciones bonitas.
Los estudiantes hablaron en telugu, hindi e Inglés. Uno de los estudiantes, hablo y compartió un incidente que sucedió hace años.
Un día, los estudiantes vieron que Swami se corto las uñas muy cortas. Eramos pocos, tome un
poco de coraje y le preguntó a Swami por qué
se corto las uñas tan cortas. Nuestra compasivo Señor, dijo: Cuando bendigo a los devotos en Mi
darshan, muchos de ellos caen a mis pies para tomar padanamaskar.
No quiero que ninguno de mis devotos sea herido con mis uñas. Quiero asegurarme de que mis
uñas estén corta,s para evitar este dolor a mis devotos. Este fue un incidente hermosa que representaba amor incomparable de Swami por sus devotos.
Nuestra Divina Madre, la Madre de millones de madres es nuestro amado Swami.
Otro de los hermanos compartio un incidente más, en donde al parecer hubo un Narayana Seva
llevando a cabo en la presencia divina.
Swami vio a una madre sosteniendo a su pequeño bebé en su regazo. Swami entonces llamó a un
estudiante y le dijo: que el bebé no puede comer Chekkara PONGAL (dulce de arroz). Vayan y
traigan leche para el bebé.
El estudiante corrió y calentó la leche fresca en un vaso para el bebé. Al traer la copa de
leche Swami dijo, esta leche está muy caliente, ¿cómo el bebé va ha tomar la leche tan caliente?
Inmediatamente Swami le pidió al niño para trajera un vaso vacío y sólo después de enfriar la leche se la dio personalmente al bebé.
¿Cuántos en este mundo puede tener este amor sin mancha por nuestros semejantes.
Más tarde, el profesor Anil Kumar, una vez más, presentó dos oradores para esta mañana y la
primero fue Leonardo de Argentina, miembro de la Organización Sai Internacional, un ferviente
devoto de Bhagavan desde hace muchos años.
Él dijo, no es necesario para cualquiera de nosotros sentir que Swami no esta más con nosotros.
Él está muy con nosotros y nos guía a todos en nuestras vidas hacia la eternidad y más allá.
El siguiente orador fue Mr.Nimish de Organizaciones Sri Sathya Sai, Distrito Federal, quien dijo,
que el Mahasamadhi de Bhagavan es único en su clase y que responderá a todos nuestros
problemas terrenales y espirituales.
Aseguró a todos que el Sri Sathya Sai Central Trust proseguirá sus proyectos de seva como se
indico por Bhagavan. Dijo que esta es una organización única, en la que cada miembro sirve a los
necesitados como una ofrenda al Todopoderoso.
Por otro lado una película sobre la vida de Swami se proyecto en este auspicioso día
de Gurupoornima.
El talentoso director de cine Telugu Sri. Kodi Ramakrishna dirigió esta película, el 80% de lo que
sería filmado en Puttaparthi.
Sri.Kodi Ramakrishna fue hasta el Mahasamadhi y colocó el guión de la película en el mismo y
ofrecio oraciones especiales.
En declaraciones a los medios de comunicación, dijo, el actor que interpretara el papel de Swami
no será revelado, y sólo lo sabremos después de que la película se presente, lo más probable sea el 23 de noviembre de 2011.
Esta película que se estrenará en todo el mundo en diferentes idiomas, sería única en su clase.
Más tarde, a todos los devotos se les permitió tener un darshan más cercano del samadhi,
y todos fueron capaces de tocar el mármol debajo de la actual esta el Mahasamadhi.

Así que aquí tenemos, como un estudiante en el programa de hoy ha dicho con razón, de todos
estos años, todos esperábamos ha nuestros Bhagavan para que conceda Su darshan física y ahora
el nos espera a partir de su Mahasamadhi para nuestro darshan físico. Como lo ha dicho con
razón, en muchas ocasiones, siempre estoy esperando que se abra la puerta , a la espera de su llamada.

Om Sairam dearest Sai Family
It was a MIXED feeling, a moment of Joy and pain was experienced this morning on Gurupoornima 2011. Gurupoornima festival is always a special festival for all of us and Swami made sure this SPECIAL festival is remembered for generations to come, by planning the UNVEILING His Mahasamadhi on this SPECIAL day.
The hall was beautifully decorated on this ocassion. Parthi was also decorated with flowers, mango leaves, banana stems being tied at various places. There was so much anxiety in the air. The devotees started thronging to the Sai Kulwanth hall from early morning.
The Youths who are here for the Youth Conference were given special seating right next to the Gate opposite to the dais. The devotees started entering the hall and in no time it was jampacked all over.
To attend this holy festival which became very special because of the MahaSamadhi unveiling devotees from all over the world came to Parthi. The programme started with Veda chantings by the students of Swami's university at 7.30 AM. The dais which had huge white screens(during the construction of Mahasamadhi) was now confined to the maroon curtain which we all saw during Swami's last rites. As all the devotees were eagerly awaiting for the unveiling exactly at 8am as brother Veda narayana and Prasanthi priest offered arathi to Swami's samadhi on either sides, the curtains were pulled to either sides. As every one joined their hands in ecstasy, some in tears, some screaming O my Swami, Some others said, Sairam!!! the beautifully built Mahasamadhi of this Kaliyuga's Poorna Avatar Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba was unveiled for public darshan. The Samadhi which is built with white marble with golden borders here and there was mesmerising to watch. Both the pillars on either sides also had white marble with gold coloured borders, the Ganesha idol which used to be there on the dais has been removed, A huge garland was placed on the Maha Samadhi and different flowers were placed on either side of the Mahasamadhi. Right infront of the Mahasamadhi was written LOVE ALL SERVE ALL. A beautiful picture of Swami was placed in the middle by Ganesha idol's place and on either sides were beautifully lit lights probably made of marble. The photo in the middle was almost in the middle of the path behind the Ganesha idol which used to lead to the interview room. Now only a small path has been left to the interview room, which gave lot of space and also bit of elevation to Mahasamadhi.
After the unveiling the students sang beautiful songs. the first song after the unveiling was Sathya Dhramamu Shanthi premalatho mee nithya jeevana Yatra saginchu..
Later Students had the programme titled GURU VANDANA, where in two students took turns to share some touching incidents that happened in their lives with beautifull renderings inbetween. The students spoke in Telugu, Hindi and English. One student, speaking how minute Swami's actions were shared an incident which happened years ago. One day a students saw Swami cutting His nails very short. There were very short and taking some courage this student asked Swami as why He was cutting His nails so short. Our compassionate Lord, said thus: When I go out to bless My devotees for darshan, many of them fall on My feet to take padanamaskar. I don't want any of My devotees to be hurt with My nails. I want to make sure My nails are short to avoid this pain to My devotees. This was just a beautiful incident which depicted Swami's unparalleled Love for His devotees.
Our Divine Mother, Mother of Millions of Mothers is our beloved Swami. Another brother shared one more incident, where in apparently there was one Narayana Seva being conducted in the divine presence. Swami saw one mother holding her little baby in her lap. Swami then called one student and said : that baby there cannot eat CHEKKARA PONGAL (sweet rice). Go and bring milk for the baby. The student ran and got fresh hot milk in a glass for the baby. Holding the glass of milk Swami said, this milk is very hot how will the baby drink so hot milk? Immediately Swami asked the boy to bring an empty glass and only after making the milk cold personally by Himself gave the same to the baby.
How many in this world can have this unsullied Love for our fellow beings.
Later on Prof. Anil Kumar who was at his best yet again, introduced two speakers for this morning and the first one was Mr.Leonardo from Argentina, a member of International Sai Organisation, an ardent devotee of Bhagawan for many years now. He said, there is no need for any of us to feel that Swami is no more with us. He is very much with us and will be guiding us all in our lives for eternity and beyond.
The next speaker was Mr.Nimish from Sri Sathya Sai Organisations, Maharashtra who said, Bhagawan's Mahasamadhi is one of its kind which will be answering all our worldly and spiritual problems. He assured every one that the Sri Sathya Sai Central Trust will continue its seva projects as directed by Bhagawan. He said this is an unique organisation where every member serves the needy as an offering to the Almighty.
On the other hand a movie on Swami's life started on this auspicious Gurupoornima day. Talented Telugu movie director Sri.Kodi Ramakrishna would be directing this movie, 80% of which would be shot in Puttaparthi. Sri.Kodi Ramakrishna went upto Mahasamadhi and placed the movie script at Mahasamadhi and offered special prayers. Speaking to media, he said, the actor playing the role of Swami will not be disclosed and we will only know after the movie is released most probably on November 23rd 2011. This movie which will be released all over the world in different languages would be one of its kind.
Later on, all the devotees were allowed to have a closer darshan of samadhi and we all were able to touch the marble below the actual Mahasamadhi.

So here we got, as one student in today's programme rightly said,all these years, we all waited for our beloved Bhagawan to grant His Physical darshan and now He seem to be waiting for us from His Mahasamadhi for our physical darshan. As He rightly said on many occasions, I am always waiting for you in the door step, ready to help, waiting for your call.

Queridos Hermanos y Hermanas,
¿"QUÉ ES LO QUE SIGUE?" ES LA PREGUNTA.
Esta es la segunda charla sobre el tópico : "¿Qué es lo que sigue?" Esta es la interrogante que surge en la mente de la multitud de devotos de Sai diseminados por todo el mundo. Hasta los que no son devotos preguntan también, "¿Qué es lo que sigue?"
La semana pasada compartí con ustedes algunas ideas sobre "¿Qué es lo que Sigue?". Esta mañana quisiera compartir con ustedes algunas más.
LA VIDA ES UN VIAJE CONTÍNUO
La vida es un viaje contínuo, no se detiene, siempre fluye. La culminación de la vida radica en su eterno curso y el secreto tras la bienaventuranza de la vida es el de la continuidad hacia la eternidad.
Mis amigos, la vida es como un río que fluye, mas si este fluir de la vida se detuviera. el agua se estancaría, sería no apta para el consumo. Por ello la vida debe fluir. Debe seguir y seguir. Baba nos ayuda a todos para avanzar fluyendo por nuestro trayecto espiritual. La vida espiritual es el trayecto, el viaje.
Por momentos nos sentimos tentados a detenernos y a considerar si hemos hecho lo suficiente, mas esto se debe a la ignorancia. Aquí van un par de ejemplos de esta actitud : si alguien siente el deseo de tener una entrevista con Swami, piensa que es todo lo que debe hacer. O cuando una persona desea entregarle una carta a Swami y es recibida, piensa que con eso basta.
Mas nada es final. Nada es definitivo, porque la vida es una continuidad, como un río que fluye. Bhagavan quiere que fluyamos y avancemos. Cuando no estamos dispuestos, Él nos empujará hacia adelante. Este es el propósito de un guru.
EL ROL DE UN GURU
Cuando uno no está dispuesto a seguir adelante por sí mismo y no tiene ganas de hacerlo, si alguien les empujara desde atrás no tendrían otra opción que avanzar. Este es el rol de un Maestro espiritual. No les permitirá estancarse. No les permitirá ser pasivos y no se quedará tranquilo si permanecieran en un mismo lugar.
Aquí va un ejemplo. Swami le preguntó a un devoto, "¿Por cuánto tiempo te vas a quedar en la escuela de párvulos? Por cuánto tiempo vas a practicar el alfabeto, A, B, C . . . ¿toda tu vida?" ¡No pueden ser contínuamente niños! Deben progresar, aprender el alfabeto, aprender palabras, y finalmente formular frases. El proceso de aprendizaje sigue y sigue.
Swami siempre pregunta, "¿Cuánto tiempo? ¿Por cuánto tiempo te quedarás en el mismo curso?" Nuestra respuesta es típica, "Por tanto tiempo como podamos." Mas es en esta coyuntura que somos forzados a avanzar. ¿Cómo puede hacerse?
LA AUTO-INDAGACIÓN COMIENZA CUANDO SWAMI DEJA DE HABLARNOS
Swami, aunque le habla a algunos de nosotros casi a diario, comienza de pronto a eludirnos.
¿Por qué? ¿Qué ha sucedido? ¡No lo sabemos! Les habla a diario, mientras los demás observan. Piensan, '¡Vaya el alma afortunada, Swami les está hablando!'. Y luego, repentínamente Él les ignora, y otros también comienzan a hacerlo. (Risas)
Si analizamos por qué Swami dejó de hablarnos, comienza la auto-indagación, la introspección y el autoexamen de manera vigorosa e intensa. "¿Por qué dejó de hablar conmigo? ¿Qué es lo que he hecho? ¿Hay algo erróneo en mi vida?"
Junto con ésto, ¡otras personas también comienzan a esquivarle! Hasta ayer la gente le decía, "¡Hola, Sai Ram!" Mas hoy han dejado de dirigirse a uno. ¿Por qué? ¡Porque notaron que Swami dejó de hablarle! Eso le sucede a todos.
Pasé seis años en Bangalore. Un día, Swami llegó de Puttaparthi y por cuatro o cinco días no me habló ni me miró. Pensé, "Está bien", pero entonces otras personas dejaron de hablar conmigo. ¡Esa fue la mayor tragedia! (Risas) Swami había dejado de hablarme aunque quizás más adelante volvería a dirigirse a mí. "¿Por qué estos sujetos me evitan como si yo no existiera?"
A séptimo día, (era un domingo, creo) dentro del Auditorio Sai Kishan, se anunció que habría una reunión. Todos se reunieron. Entonces Swami me llamó y dijo, "Anil Kumar, habla tú ahora." Al final de mi intervención, los mismos que me habían vuelto la espalda antes, fueron ahora los primeros en acercarse y decir, "Sai Ram. ¿Cómo estás Anil Kumar?" (Risas)
"¡Vaya! He estado aquí por los últimos cinco o seis días y me ignoraron. (Risas) Ahora vienen y me dicen, '¿Cómo estás Anil Kumar? ¡Qué gusto de verte!' "
Entonces entendí lo del condicionamiento social – la gente reconociéndote, todo el nombre y la fama – lo que es totalmente falso. Te hablan, porque Swami te habló. Te eluden, porque Swami te eludió. Entendí entonces lo que es la vida y entonces comencé a reírme para mís adentros.
Con algunas personas bromeaba, diciéndoles que había estado muy bien durante los últimos cinco días y extremadamente bien hoy. Pensaba, "¿Por qué me estaba evitando? ¿Que andaba mal?" y entonces me dí cuenta que es por nuestro propio bien que Él hace estas cosas.
AVANCEN DE LA PERCEPCIÓN FÍSICA A LA MEDITACIÓN
Físicamente hablando, se recomienda ayunar al menos una vez a la semana, ya sea a la hora de la cena o al almuerzo. Aunque decimos que estamos ayunando, nos llenamos con substitutos. (Risas) No sólo comemos arroz, sino también dosas. El ayuno una vez a la semana se prescribe para que su sistema esté muy bien al día siguiente y tengan un mayor apetito.
Si Swami se pasa hablando con uno en la mañana y la tarde, como si no tuviera otro propósito, entonces uno lo da por sentado. Mas cuando deja de hablarnos, ¡comienza 'el ayuno espiritual' ! Significa que cuando les evade, ¡se sienten más sedientos y más hambrientos! De modo que es por nuestro propio bien que Él nos evade.
En el trayecto espiritual, el primer paso es el contemplar y meditar en la forma física. En ausencia de la forma física, necesitamos hacer uso de nuestro ojo interno para contemplar y meditar en Su forma. Este es un estado superior, y estamos ahora en ese nivel de nuestro viaje espiritual, mírenlo internamente cada vez más. La gente decía, "Anil Kumar, usted Le es muy cercano", ¡mas el estar cerca de Su forma física no significa estár más cerca de Él!
Si creen que Baba es Dios, estarán entonces cerca de todos. Si piensan que están más cerca de Swami que otra persona, será vuestra propia necedad. Si pienso que estoy más cerca Suyo, será un error mío del porte de una montaña. Él está cerca de todos; todos estamos cerca de Él.
El verle físicamente es darshan, mas cuando piensan en Él es meditación. Cuando Le miran, es una vista, sólo escenario. Le han visto en persona, una persona en verdad muy atractiva, mas cuando Le sienten, cuando piensan en Él, es contemplación y meditación.
Uno no puede continuar estando en el estdo de percepción física; es ridículo. Cuando un niño se hace mayor, debiera poder caminar por si mismo. Si un sujeto deseara ser llevado en brazos por su madre a la edad de diez o catorce años, algo anda mal con él. No necesita ya ser llevado en brazos. Si nos mantenemos en la percepción física – "Quiero ver, quiero sentirme feliz"-- significará un estado de estancamiento. Uno ha de avanzar desde la percepción física al estado de la meditación.
SHIRDI BABA Y SU DEVOTO
Para dar un ejemplo : Shirdi Baba le dijo una vez a un devoto que había estado por décadas con Él, que abandonara Shirdi. Aunque el devoto estaba por romper en llanto, Baba siguió insistiendo que debía irse. Baba le dijo, "No te dejes ver por estos lados por un año. ¡Vete!"
El hombre se puso a llorar, porque había pasado mucho tiempo en la presencia de Shirdi Baba. Aunque de todos modos, partió.
Algunos devotos Le comenzaron a orar más fervientemente a Baba, "Swami, cuán misericordioso eres. Le has echado, pero Tu no puedes salir de su corazón. Puede que le ordenes irse, mas Tu no puedes salir del corazón de un devoto." (Risas)
Cuando estaba por llegar a su fin el período de exilio, el hombre estaba sentado en un jardín,
llorando, porque ese año había sido para él un infierno. "No querría que ni mi peor enemigo tenga que enfrentar una período así de tortura y dolor", decía.
De pronto sintió una suave presión en su hombro, se volvió y vió a Shirdi Baba detrás suyo – ¡ese alto personaje vestido completamente de blanco, incluyendo el turbante! Con una mirada compasiva y afectuosa, Baba le habló dulcemente, "Hijo mío, ¿piensas que estoy enojado contigo? ¿Podría enojarme con alguien? No, ¡sólo simulo estar enojado! Sólo pretendo estarlo. Sólo actué como si estuviera enojado contigo y te dije que te fueras. Piensas que esta forma está únicamente en Shirdi."
"Has cometido tres errores. El primero es que querías establecerte en Shirdi. Es segundo es que anhelas esta forma. El tercero es que piensas que esta forma está únicamente aquí."
"Durante el año pasado, ¿qué ha estado sucediendo? Cada vez que estás lejos de Mí, piensas en Mí. Estás meditando ¡y eso es Shirdi! En dondequiera que estés, el lugar en donde pienses en Mí, es Shirdi. Cuando piensas en Mi forma, eso es meditación. Siendo que Me sientes contigo sin que importe en donde te encuentres, ¿qué más quieres?"
"Para tu crecimiento espiritual, te dije que te fueras. Entiende que ahora estás esperando por Mi darshan, por Mi atención y por Mi diálogo contigo. Eso es la escuela de párvulos."
EL ORGULLO Y EL EGO NO SON ESPIRITUALES
Avanzamos desde la percepción a la comprension, de la proximidad física a la cercanía mental. De hecho, dentro de nuestras propias familias, los niños que viven lejos de nosotros piensan en nosotros más seguido que los que viven con nosotros. La distancia presta encanto.
Es lo mismo respecto de la presencia fisica de Bhagavan. Les lleva a un nivel superior de la mente meditativa, una mente que puede contemplar en Él, un estado del que no pueden alardear ni sentirse orgullosos.
En la presencia física existen oportunidades para sentirse orgullosos. Encontramos a muchos que detienen el tránsito y dicen, "¿Supo que Swami habló conmigo?"
Hay muchas personas que detienen a otras y dicen, "Él me ha dado un anillo". ¿Y qué? Andan tras de publicidad, renombre y fama. Estas son expresiones de vanidad y de ego. Y estas no son cualidades para una mente religiosa.
La humildad, la abnegación y el olvidarse de uno mismo (ego), representan un logro espiritual. Durante la meditación, no hay nada de que sentirse orgulloso. Por cierto que hay excepciones, porque tengo un amigo que dijo, "Estoy meditando tres horas diarias". (Risas) Es un hombre ya mayor, que bordea los 80 . . . ¿qué hacer? Luego dijo, "Siento una dicha suprema, estoy en el nivel más alto de bienaventuranza, meditando tres horas." Finalmente le dije, "Señor, por favor, duplíquelas a seis horas!" (Risas) ¡Ahora tenemos seis horas de libertad! (Risas)
Cuando como mi hambre se calma, mas cuando comen ustedes, yo no puedo decir que me siento satisfecho. Cuando beben algo de agua, se calmará su sed, no la mía. En la meditación son ustedes los beneficiados y no necesitan publicarlo.
El ego es feísimo, y levantará su capuchón en cualquier momento o lugar. Los riesgos del orgullo y del ego son menores cuando meditamos, cuando contemplamos. No obstante, ante Su presencia física hay un noventa y nueve por ciento de posibilidades para desarrollar orgullo y ego.
Si la gente se acercara un día a ustedes y dijeran que son gradiosos, sentirán, "¡Oh! ¿Es así?" Al día siguiente pensarán, "Bueno, es posble"", y al tercer día, "Tal vez soy grande", y al cuarto día, se habrán dado cuenta, "Sí que soy grande". (Risas)
SWAMI ESTÁ PERMANENTEMENTE INSTALADO EN NUESTROS CORAZONES
Lentamente podemos caer en la trampa de las opiniones de otros sobre nosotros. No obstante, en la meditación nadie les perturbará; pueden crecer a su manera. Por eso, amigos míos, no lloremos. No nos sintamos mal debido a la ausencia física de Swami, porque Él está permanentemente instalado en nuestros corazones, como letras esculpidas en piedra. Las letras escritas sobre la arena pueden borrarse con el tiempo, mas las talladas en piedra permanecen firmes. Swami está permanentemente instalado en nuestros corazones. Su forma está allí.
Sólo ayer un conductor me decía que su trabajo era el trabar conversación con todos con el objeto de aprender más. Me gustó su comentario. Dijo, "Señor, aún siento la presencia física de Swami en el Sai Kulwant Hall. No pienso que nos haya dejado. ¡Siento que aún está allí!"
Dije, "¡Si los otros sujetos quisieran aprender de tí, estarías liberado en diez a quince años más! El conductor no venía todos los días a darshan, porque se gana la vida con su servicio de transporte. Pero me dijo, "Señor, Swami no nos ha dejado, Él sigue estando ahí. Siento la plenitud, no el vacío."
Contrastando con él, un señor que ha pasado décadas en la proximidad de Swami, preguntó, "¿Para qué estoy acá? ¿Cuál es el atractivo ahora? Usted, Prof. Kumar, va seguir estando aqui?" (Risas) Este tipo de vacío, esta sensación de vacuidad en nuestras vidas, es signo de pobreza espiritual o inmadurez espiritual, porque en realidad podemos pensar instantáneamente en Él.
Aunque nuestros hijos puedan estar lejos de nosotros, ¿No estamos pensando en ellos y ellos en nosotros? ¿Piensan que nuestro Padre, Bhagavan Baba, no va a pensar en nosotros ahora? No tiene ningún otro objetivo, créanme por favor. Baba no tiene otro pensamiento que para Sus devotos, ahora y siempre. (Aplausos)
Baba ha dicho repetidamente, "No tengo pensamiento alguno. No tengo nada que alcanzar. No tengo nada que lograr. No tengo deseos. No tengo planes. La única preocupación que tengo es la de como ayudar a Mis devotos. Como ayudarles a llegar al sentir espiritual es mi preocupación constante." Todos podemos estar seguros de esta declaración.
EL PROGRESO ESPIRITUAL SE MIDE EN ECUANIMIDAD
¿Existe alguna razón para seguir llorando? ¡No! Debido a los apegos físicos es muy natural el sentir dolor por algún tiempo; mas eso no puede seguir indefinidamente. Hasta Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa se condolió al fallecer Kesava Chandra Sen, su discípulo más cercano. Ramana Maharshi también sintió dolor cuando murió una vaca. Ambos se entristecieron porque estaban en un cuerpo humano. Sintieron tristeza, aunque sólo por poco tiempo.
El cuerpo reacciona cuando alguien cuenta un chiste. Si no se oyeran risas, ¿qué es lo que eso muestra? Muestra un cuerpo inanimado. (Risas) Baba dejó Su cuerpo ya hace mucho, ¡y lo hemos notado recién ahora! (Risas) Es natural que cuando se produce un evento trágico, nos sentimos mal. Yo soy así. Por ello es muy natural el responder a ciertos sucesos en la vida con un arranque espontáneo de emoción.
Ni siquiera un santo está libre de eso. Mas lo que nos demoremos en rebotar de ahí será una indicación de nuestro progreso espiritual. El progreso espiritual se mide según la rapidez con la que volvamos a la normalidad.
No hay nada por que sentirnos decaídos, ya que Swami no nos ha dejado. Una vez, una persona Le dijo a Swami, "Después de un par de años contigo, debo partir ahora y me siento muy triste." Baba replicó, "No Me estás dejando. Dondequiera que vayas, Yo estoy contigo." Una y otra vez Swami ha dicho, "Estoy con ustedes, por encima, por debajo y alrededor de ustedes."
Cuando me olvido de enumerar algo en lo que acabo de decir, ustedes me recuerdan, " 'en ustedes', también", por ejemplo. (Risas) Aunque yo lo olvide, ustedes me lo recuerdan. De modo que es pakka, cien por ciento seguro que Él está en ustedes, con ustedes, por encima de ustedes, por debajo de ustedes y en torno a ustedes. ¿Qué más quieren? ¿Qué mayor seguridad podrían tener?
¿Existe alguna razón para sentirse tristes? No. Pero si así y todo sintiéramos algo de pena, el mejor remedio es el meditar en Su forma. Es tiempo de avanzar desde la percepción física a un estado de comprensión mental y de meditación.
SAKARA A NIRAKARA – CON FORMA A SIN FORMA
Es tiempo de avanzar de sakara aradhana, adoración a la forma, al aspecto sin forma de nirakara o Divinidad amorfa. ¿Qué es lo que quiero decir con ello?
Cuando lo Divino carece de forma, ¿qué es lo que existe para pensar o meditar en ello? ¿Qué es lo que tenemos para adorar? La respuesta es simple : Dios está en cada uno. Entonces, ¿cuál es la forma correcta de Dios? ¿Cómo es, cómo luce? Él se ve como todos nosotros. Se ve como ustedes. Se ve como yo. Todas las formas son Suyas y son Suyos todos los nombres.
Sahasra Sreesha Purushah
Sahasraksha Sahasrapath.
Todos nuestros pies son Suyos, todas nuestras manos son Suyas, todas nuestras cabezas son Suyas, todos nuestros oidos son Suyos, entonces ¿cuál seria Su forma? Es la forma universal o Viswarupa. No es únicamente un individuo; es el Parameshti, la forma cósmica. Esto representa el tipo de adoración nirakara.
Nirakara, la adoración sin forma, significa ver a Dios en todos. Él no tiene forma, mas ustedes tienen una, ¿no es así? Hasta que no pierdan su identidad, no pueden pensar en esa entidad. La idea de esa entidad es posible sólamente si pierden su propia identidad.
Yo tengo una forma y Dios no tiene forma; ¡eso lo veo muy bien! (Risas) ¿Cómo pueden tender un puente entre ambos? Debiéramos elevarnos por sobre el estado de la identidad individual y llegar hasta el nivel superior de la no-entidad. Ese es el paso siguiente.
Creemos que Dios posee algunas cualidades o gunas o atributos. Esto es saguna. Mas hemos de avanzar desde este estado al de nirguna, que significa 'sin atributos'. ¿Cómo podemos percibir la naturaleza de lo Divino sin atributos? La lengua sigue siendo la misma aunque pruebe sabores dulces, picantes, aliñados, amargos etc. Los sabores son diferentes, mas la lengua es la misma. ¿Tiene algún sabor dulce o picante la lengua ? ¡Por supuesto que no! Todos esos sabores le son conocidos a la lengua, pero ella misma no sabe a nada. De manera similar, lo saguna o con atributos existe debido al nirguna, Dios sin atributos.
EL FUTURO DE PUTTAPARTHI
De la percepción física a la meditación mental, de la forma a lo sin forma, de los atributos a un estado carente de atributos. ¿Y qué viene a continuación? Mis amigos, la gente me ha estado preguntanto, "¿Qué va a pasar con Puttaparthi?"
Entiendan, por favor, esta verdad espiritual básica : somos permanentes. El cuerpo viene y se va, mas nosotros somos inmortales. Cumpleaños, bodas y funerales llegan, mas nosotros somos permanentes. (Risas) La bombilla se encenderá cuando se conecta el interruptor, y no emitirá luz cundo el interruptor esté en 'desconectado'; la corriente sin embargo es permanente. De manera similar, nosotros somos permanentes aunque la bombilla sea temporal.
Baba dice :
Naruda Budbudamu, Neeru Narayanudu.
Dios es agua, en tanto que el hombre es una burbuja.
Sobre la superficie del agua pueden ver las burbujas. ¡Pop! Y vuelve a ser agua de nuevo. La borbuja es de agua y del agua, mas, ¿dónde está la burbuja? Está en el agua. Es sólo el cuerpo el que viene y se va, y ustedes no son el cuerpo. Nosotros somos eternos.
Y entonces, ¿qué va a pasar con Puttaparthi? Casi todos los centros de peregrinación se han desarrollado depués que el sabio, profeta, santo o vidente se han retirado de sus cuerpos físicos. No debiéramos usar la palabra 'morir' con respecto a estas personas. Ellas no mueren, porque nunca nacieron.
REVERENTE SALUDO DE AMOR
El 11 de mayo hubo una función en Hyderabad, organizada por la TV nacional y el gobierno de Andhra Pradesh. El título para esta asamblea fue Smruthyanjali lo cual significa 'en memoria de'. No me gustó este título. Sin embargo fui un orador en esta reunión. (Risas) Hubo también importantes invitados. ¡Smruthyanjali : "Reverente Saludo al Alma Difunta" estaba escrito en grandes caracteres!
Muchos canales de TV, periódicos, ministros y altos personajes de Hyderabad estaban allí. La función se llevó a cabo en el Jubilee Hall. Créanme, está registrado, pueden referirse a cualquier canal. El NTVtelugu lo ha mantenido en si sitio web. La primera frase que pronuncié fué : "Es una estupidez decir que esto es Smruthyanjali. ¡Córtenlo! Esto es Premanjali. Es Premanjali, no Smruthyanjali." (Aplausos). Es un reverente saludo de amor.
Esto no es algo "en memoria de"; esta es una función de acción de gracias. Le agradecemos a Baba el habernos permitido ser Sus devotos. Le agradecemos por todas las bendiciones que Él nos ha dado. Le agradecemos el habernos otorgado el destino de nacer en esta época, como Sus contemporáneos. Esta función es una expresión de gratitud. Nunca digan Smruthyanjali. Mas, si quisieran, podrían decirSruthyanjali – 'Sruti' significa 'Veda'. Sruthyanjali ofrece sus reverentes saludos. Debiera ser Sruthyanjali y no Smruthyanjali."
"Sr. Anil Kumar – dijeron – usted está en lo cierto y le estamos agradecidos por corregirnos." Por ello, no es un asunto de decir que Le echamos de menos.
SWAMI DECLARÓ SU SAMADHI
Todos los lugares santos se desarrollan después que los profetas, sabios y santos abandonaran sus cuerpos. Tomen nota que no pronuncio la palabra 'mueren'. El retiro se basa en su voluntad; deciden cuando retirarse.
Hace unos pocos años, créanme o no, estaba de pie frente a la estatua de Ganesha en el Sai Kulwant Hall y Baba me dijo, "Este va a ser Mi samadhi." Repliqué, "Swami, ¡no nos asustes así! No
puedo aceptarlo." Estaba por ponerme a llorar. Entonces Baba dijo, "Es algo que ha de sucederle a todos un día o el otro. No te preocupes, aún queda tiempo." Fue lo que dijo.
Hace un par de años atrás, en Kodaikanal, el tópico surgió de nuevo. "Swami, dijiste que estarías en Tu cuerpo por noventa y seis años", dije y Él replicó, "Si lo quisiera, podría vivir más de noventa y seis años; puedo vivir por el tiempo que quiera. Y podría partir ahora mismo, si quiero", dijo.
Le dije, "Swami estamos en vacaciones de verano. (Risas) Todos los muchachos han venido para estar contigo, para disfrutar, para bailar, para comer y para divertirse. Por favor, no declares estas
cosas, Swami." Y entonces me dijo, "Tranquilo, tranquilo."
LA VOLUNTAD DE SWAMI IMPERA
Swami dijo, "Puedo quedarme o puedo renunciar a voluntad." ¿Qué significa eso? Significa que Él se retiró exactamente cuando lo quiso.
Alguien me preguntó, "¿Por qué es que Swami tiene tantos problemas con Su cuerpo, Su corazón, pulmones, hígado y riñones? ¿Piensa que estos problemas aparecieron de pronto? ¿Ha estado sufriendo de ellos por un tiempo?
Estas son las declaraciones con las que respondí : "Muy bien, presumamos que Baba ha tenido todos esos problemas por un tiempo considerable. No obstante, pese a estos sostenidos problemas de salud, ha estado dando darshan, recibiendo cartas, guiando a la gente y atendiendo a su carga diaria de trabajo de manera contínua. De seguro que ello es prueba de Su Divinidad. Con todos estos problemas y a la edad de ochenta y cinco años, el que continúe con todo es prueba de Su Divinidad."
Luego otro señor me preguntó, "Si tenía todos esos problemas, ¿por qué no se retiró de inmediato? ¿Por qué permaneció en el hospital por veintisiete días?" Entonces le dije, "Si Él se hubiera retirado de inmediato, usted diría, 'Oh Dios, ¡ahora nuestro sufrimiento será mayor, porque Te fuiste tan rápido!' " (Risas)
Un Avatar es cercano a los seres humanos, puesto que aún siendo Divino en Su naturaleza ha encarnado en una forma humana. Si desapareciera súbitamente, podrían decirle, "¿Cómo Te pudiste marchar simplemente así? ¿Eres humano o Divino?" Ven, se permitió a Sí Mismo permanecer en el hospital por veintisiete días. Esa fue Su voluntad."
A diario, los médicos Le ofrecían sus plegarias antes de tratarlo. Los médicos sabían que Su vida estaba en Sus manos. Él les había dado una oportunidad para servirle. La adoración de un médico toma la forma del tratamiento a los pobres y los menesterosos. De modo que los médicos hacían sus ofrendas bajo la forma del tratamiento, aun estando plenamente conscientes que todo estaba en Sus manos. Para nosotros es una prueba que nada puede forzarle a regresar, a pesar de los médicos y los medicamentos de todo el mundo. "Ustedes no Me pueden detener. Mi voluntad imperará". Eso es Bhagavan Sri Sathya Sai Baba.
PRASANTHI NILAYAM NO TIENE IGUAL
Volviendo al punto principal : Bhagavan Baba hizo de Prasanthi Nilayam un lugar maravilloso durante Su vida. No hay lugar que se le iguale a Prasanthi Nilayam. (Aplausos) La gente les preguntará si Prasanthi Nilayam es el mejor lugar para vivir, cuando regresen a casa. Es un sitio incomparable. ¿Por qué? Aquí son sustentados en una disciplinada y regulada vida espiritual. Acostarse temprano, levantarse temprano, es lo que hace al hombre saludable, rico y sabio. El Sadhana es apoyado de manera única en Prasanthi Nilayam. Una vida regulada está asegurada en el ashram.
La gente no discute de política abiertamente. ¿Habla alguien de política en el Mandir? Si lo hiciera, la gente lo miraría igual que si fuera un ratero. (Risas) Por eso, nadie hablará de asuntos de política y sólo por eso, ¡se garantiza un cincuenta por ciento de felicidad! La política contamina la mente tanto a nivel familiar como nacional. El Ramayana es política a nivel familiar. (Risas) El Mahabharata es la política entre dos familias. (Risas)
Aquí en Prasanthi Nilayam, nadie alardea. No encontramos a nadie que diga, "¡Poseo diez crores (un crore = 10 millones) en propiedades!" (Risas) Fuera de los portales, puede que algún sujeto comparta con ustedes que tiene propiedades. Mas continúa para decir, "Tengo un coche. ¿Tiene usted uno? ¿Cuándo le va a agregar otro piso a su casa?" Este tipo de competencia vulgar y sin sentido es la que vuelve infelices nuestras vidas.
LA VIDA ESPIRITUAL EN PRASANTHI NILAYAM
Cuando recién llegué donde Swami, me dijo, "No intercambies notas más que sobre temas espirituales." Eso es satsanga, la esencia misma de Prasanthi Nilayam. (Aplausos) Aquí piensan y hablan solamente de Swami, no sobre cuentas bancarias personales, terrenos o apartamentos.
Dentro del ashram no hay televisión, de modo que los residentes se pueden retirar a dormir muy temprano. La mayoría de los programas de televisión les muestran técnicas sobre como envenenar a otros, como apuñalar por la espalda, como una nuera puede matar a su suegra sin ser descubierta, y como un suegro puede torturar constantemente a su nuera. (Risas) Estas son las tecnicas enseñadas por las seriales televisivas. (Risas) Puesto que no hay TV aquí, los residentes están libres de su influencia negativa.
Todos comemos los mismos alimentos en la cantina de la India Sureña. Aunque alguien sea un secretario extranjero, no habrá un sambar especial para usted. (Risas) La misma comida, cantina y Mandir : esto es comunismo espiritual en práctica. (Aplausos) Aquí en Prasanthi Nilayam es practicado el socialismo espiritual. (Aplausos) Todos somos iguales acá; nadie es superior a ningún otro. Este es el mejor de los lugares y un lugar así fue el que Baba diseñó.
¿Qué pasará con Puttaparthi? Baba ya ha construido universidades, hospitales y muchas otras instituciones educacionales acá. Por eso, si alguien les pregunta qué va a pasar con Puttaparthi, podrán decir que está creciendo y seguirá creciendo por siempre jamás. (Aplausos)
TENGAN FE EN LAS PALABRAS DE SWAMI
Algunos podrían preguntar, "¿Qué pasó con Baba? ¿Dónde está El?" Yo digo, "Nada ha pasado. ¡El está en usted! Si usted no está ahí, El no está ahí. Si usted está ahí, Él está en usted." (Risas)
Mis amigos, fortalezcamos nuestra fe y tengamos plena confianza en Swami. Tengamos plena confianza en Sus palabras. Krishna hizo algunas promesas en el Bhagavad Gita. Aunque Él no está aquí ahora en una forma física, Sus palabras se cumplen incluso hoy. Krishna siempre cumple Sus promesas, con o sin un cuerpo. Dear Brothers and Sisters,
“WHAT NEXT?” IS THE QUESTION
This is the second talk on the topic: “What Next?” This is the question arising in the minds of multitudes of Sai devotees spread all over the world. Even those who are not devotees also ask, “What next?”
Last week I shared a few ideas with you on “What Next?” This morning, I would like to share some more ideas with you.
LIFE IS A CONTINUOUS JOURNEY
Life is a continuous journey; it does not stop, it is always flowing. The fulfillment of life lies in its eternal flow, and the secret behind the bliss of life is one of continuity to eternity.
My friends, life is like a river that flows; but if the flow of life stops, the water becomes stagnant, unfit for consumption. Therefore, life should be a flow. Life should go on and on. Baba is helping us all flow forward on our spiritual journey. Spiritual life is the journey.
At times we are tempted to stop and consider if we have done enough, but that is due to ignorance. Here are a couple of examples of this attitude: if someone has a desire to have an interview with Swami, one thinks that is all one has to do. Or when a person would like to hand a letter to Swami, if it is taken, then he thinks that is enough.
But nothing is final. Nothing is ultimate, because life is one of continuity, like a river that flows. Bhagavan wants us to flow and move ahead. When we are not prepared, He will push us forward. That is the purpose of a guru.
THE ROLE OF A GURU
When you are not willing to go forward on your own, and you do not feel like going forward, if someone pushes you from behind, you will have no option but to move forward. This is the role of a spiritual Master. He will not allow you to stagnate. He will not permit you to be passive, and He will not keep quiet if you remain in the same state.
Here is an example. Swami questioned a devotee, “How long will you remain in nursery school? How long will you practice the alphabet A, B, C . . . your whole life?” You cannot be a child continuously! You have to progress, learn the alphabet, learn some words, and finally formulate sentences. The learning process goes on and on.
Swami always asks, “How long? How long will you remain in the same standard?” Our answer is typically, “As long we can.” But it is at this juncture that we are forced to move forward. How can that happen?
SELF-INQUIRY BEGINS WHEN SWAMI STOPS TALKING TO US
Swami, while talking to some of us on an almost daily basis, suddenly starts avoiding us. Why? What happened? We do not know! He talks to you day in and day out, while everyone is watching. They think, ‘Ah, lucky soul, Swami is talking to him.’ Then He suddenly ignores you, and other people start doing so too! (Laughter)
If we analyse why Swami stopped talking to us, self-inquiry begins. Introspection and self-judgment begin vigorously, intensively. “Why has He stopped talking to me? What have I done? Is something wrong in my life?”
Added to this, other people also begin to avoid you! Until yesterday people would say, “Hello and Sai Ram!” But today they have stopped talking to you. Why? Because they noticed that Swami has stopped talking to you! This happens to everyone.
I spent six years in Bangalore
On the seventh day, (it was a Sunday, I believe) inside the Sai Kishan Auditorium in Bangalore there came an announcement that there would be a meeting. All were assembled. Then Swami called me and said, “Anil Kumar, you speak now.” At the end of the speech, the very same fellows who avoided me earlier were now the first to come and say, “Sai Ram. How are you, Anil Kumar?” (Laughter)
“Alas! I was here for the past five or six days and you ignored me (Laughter). Now you come and say, ‘How are you, Anil Kumar? Very nice to meet you!’”
Then I understood social conditioning--people recognising you, all the name and fame—which is totally false. They talk to you because Swami spoke to you. They avoid you because He avoided you. I understood then what life is, and then I started laughing to myself.
With some people I joked, telling them that I have been very well for the past five days and extremely well on this day. I was thinking, “Why was He avoiding me? What was wrong?” Then I realised that it is for our own good that He does these things.
MOVE FROM PHYSICAL PERCEPTION TO MEDITATION
Physically speaking, it is recommended to fast at least once a week, either at dinner or lunch. Although we say that we are fasting, we fill ourselves with substitutes. (Laughter) We take not only rice, but dosas too. Fasting at least once a week is prescribed, so that your system is fine the next day and you have a greater appetite.
If Swami goes on talking with you morning and evening, as if He has no other purpose, then you take it for granted. But when He stops talking to you, ‘spiritual fasting’ begins! It means that when He avoids you, you feel thirstier and hungrier! So it is for our own good that He avoids us.
On the spiritual journey, the first step is to contemplate and meditate upon the physical form. In the absence of the physical form, we need to use our inner eye to contemplate and meditate upon His form. This is a higher state, and we are now in that stage of our spiritual journey. Inwardly look at Him more and more. People said, “Anil Kumar, you are very close to Him,” but being close to His physical form did not mean being close to Him!
If you believe that Baba is God, He will therefore be close to everyone. If you think that you are closer to Swami than another person, it is your foolishness. If I think that I am closer to Him, it is my Himalayan blunder. He is close to everyone; we are all close to Him.
To see Him physically is darshan, but when you think of Him, it is meditation. When you look at Him, it is a view, only scenery. You have seen a person, an attractive person indeed; but when you feel Him, when you think of Him, it is contemplation and meditation.
One cannot continue to be in the state of physical perception; it is ridiculous. As a child grows older, the child should be able to walk on his own. If a fellow wishes that he should be carried by his mother in her arms at the age of ten or fourteen, something is wrong with him. He does not need to be carried in her arms any more. If we remain in physical perception─“I want to see, I want to be happy”─it is a state of stagnation. One has to move from physical perception to a state of meditation.
SHIRDI BABA AND HIS DEVOTEE
To give an example: Shirdi Baba once told a devotee, who had been with Him for decades, to leave Shirdi. Even though the devotee was about to cry, Baba still insisted that he should go.
Baba said, “Do not show your face here for one year. Get out!”
The man who had to go cried, because he had spent a long time in the presence of Shirdi Baba. But he left anyway.
Some devotees then prayed more intensely to Baba, “Swami, how merciful are You. You have kicked him out, but You cannot get out of his heart. You may send him away, but You cannot get out of a devotee’s heart.” (Laughter)
When the period of exile was coming to an end, the man sat in a garden, shedding tears, because the year had been hell for him. “I would not want my worst enemy to face such a period of torture and grief,” the man said.
Suddenly he felt a gentle touch on his shoulder. He turned around and saw Shirdi Baba behind him─ that tall personality dressed in white, complete with cap! With a compassionate and loving look, Baba spoke to him gently, “My child, do you think that I am angry with you? Can I be angry with anyone? No, I only pretend to be angry! All my anger is pretension. I just acted as if I was angry with you, and told you to get out. You are thinking that this form is in Shirdi only.”
“You have made three mistakes. The first mistake is that you want to settle in Shirdi. The second mistake is that you want this form. The third mistake is that you think that this form is here only.”
“For the past one year, what has been happening? Whenever you are far away from Me, you are thinking of Me. You are meditating; that is Shirdi! Wherever you are, the spot where you are thinking of Me is Shirdi. When you are thinking of My form, that is meditation. When you feel Me no matter where you are, what more do you want?”
“For your spiritual growth, I told you to leave. Understand that now you are waiting for My darshan, for my attention and My dialogue with you. That is nursery school.”
PRIDE AND EGO ARE NOT SPIRITUAL
We move from perception to comprehension, from physical proximity to mental closeness. In fact, within our own families, the children who live away from us think of us more often than the children who are staying with us. Distance lends enchantment.
It is the same with the physical absence of Bhagavan. It takes you to a higher level of meditative mind, a mind that can contemplate upon Him, a state in which you cannot boast or feel proud.
In the physical presence, there is every chance of feeling proud. We find many people stopping traffic, saying, “Do you know that Swami spoke to me?”
There are many people who stop others and say, “He has given me a ring.” So what? They are after publicity, name, and fame. These are expressions of pride and ego. Pride and ego are not the qualities of a religious mind.
Self-effacement, self-denial, forgetting the (ego) self, is spiritual attainment. During meditation, there is nothing to feel proud of. Of course there are exceptions, because I have a friend who said, “I am meditating three hours a day.” (Laughter) He is an elderly man of about eighty . . . what to do? The man then said, “I am in supreme bliss; I am in the topmost level of bliss, meditating three hours.” Finally I said, “Sir, please double it to six hours!” (Laughter) Now we are safe for those six hours! (Laughter)
When I eat my hunger is satisfied, but when you eat I cannot say my hunger is satisfied. When you drink some water, your thirst is quenched, not mine. In meditation you are benefited and you do not need to publicise it.
Ego is the ugliest thing, and it will raise its hood any time, any place. The risks of pride and ego are less when we are meditating, when we are contemplating. However, within His physical presence there is a ninety percent possibility of developing pride and ego.
If people come up to you one day and say that you are great, you feel, “Oh! Is that so?” The next day you think, “Well, possibly,” on the third day, “Maybe I am great,” and on the fourth day, you will have realized, “I am great.” (Laughter)
SWAMI IS PERMANENTLY INSTALLED IN OUR HEARTS
Slowly, we can fall into the trap of other people’s opinions about us. However, in meditation no one will disturb you; you can grow in your own way. Therefore, myfriends, let us not cry. Let us not feel badly about the physical absence of Swami, because He is permanently installed in our hearts, like letters inscribed on stone. Letters written in sand can be erased by time, but letters inscribed on stone will remain firm. Swami is permanently installed in our hearts. His form is there.
Only yesterday an auto driver was telling me that his job is to engage everyone in conversation in order to learn more. I liked this comment. He said, “Sir, I still feel Swami’s physical presence in Sai Kulwant Hall. I do not think that He has left us. I feel He is still here!”
I said, “If the other fellows would learn from you, then you will be liberated in ten to fifteen years! The auto driver did not come for darshan every day, because he earns his livelihood from his auto service. But he told me, “Sir, Swami has not left us, He is still there. I feel fullness, not emptiness.”
In contrast, a senior who has spent decades in close proximity to Swami, asked, “What am I here for? What is the attraction now? Are you, Professor Kumar, still going to be here?” (Laughter) This kind of emptiness, this feeling of a vacuum in our lives, is a sign of spiritual poverty or spiritual immaturity, because actually we can all think of Him instantly.
Even though our children may be far away from us, are we not thinking of them, and they of us? Do you think that our Father, Bhagavan Baba, will not think of us now? He has no other urge, please believe me. Baba has no other thought than for His devotees, now and always. (Applause)
Baba has said repeatedly, “I have no thought whatsoever. I have nothing to reach. I have nothing to attain. I have no desire. I have no plans. The one worry I have is how to help My devotees. How to help them get into the spiritual feeling is my constant worry.” We can all be assured by that statement.
SPIRITUAL PROGRESS IS MEASURED IN EQUANIMITY
Is there any reason to keep crying? No! Due to physical attachment, it is quite natural to mourn for some time; but it cannot go on indefinitely. Even Sri Rama Krishna Paramahamsa felt badly about the demise of Kesava Chandra Sen, his nearest disciple. Ramana Maharshi also felt sad when a cow died. They felt sad because both were in a human body. They felt sad, but only for a couple of moments.
The body reacts when a person tells a joke. If there is no laughter, what does it show? It shows a lifeless body. (Laughter) Baba left the body long ago, and we have only just noticed! (Laughter) Naturally, when there is a tragic event, we feel badly. I am like that. Therefore, it is quite natural to respond to certain happenings in life in a spontaneous outburst of emotion.
Even a saint is not free from that. But how soon we bounce back is an indication of our spiritual progress. Spiritual progress is measured by how fast we return to normalcy.
There is nothing to feel badly about as Swami has not left us. Once a person told Swami, “Swami, after a couple of years with You, I am now leaving and I feel so sad.” Baba replied, “You are not leaving Me. Wherever you go, I am with you.” Time and time again, Baba said, “I am with you, above you, below you, around you.”
When I forget to say one of the above, you remind me, “‘in you’ also,” for example. (Laughter) Even though I may forget, you will remind me. So it is pakka, one hundred percent assured that He is in you, with you, above you, below you, around you. What more do you want? What higher assurance can you have?
Is there any reason to feel sad? No. But if we still feel some pain, the best remedy is to meditate on His form. It is time to move from physical perception to a state of mental comprehension and meditation.
SAKARA TO NIRAKARA–FORMFUL TO FORMLESS
It is time to move from sakara aradhana, formful worship, to the formless aspect, nirakara, or formless Divinity. What do we mean by that?
When the Divine has no form, what is there to think of, to meditate upon? What is there to worship? The answer is simple: God is in everyone. Then which is the correct form of God? How does He look? He looks like all of us. He looks like you, He looks like me; all forms are His, and all names are His.
Sahasra Sreesha Purushah
Sahasraksha Sahasrapath.
All our feet are His, all our hands are His, all our heads are His, all our ears are His; so what is His form? It is the universal form or Viswarupa. It is not just an individual; it is Parameshti, the cosmic form. This is the nirakara type of worship.
Nirakara, formless worship, means to see God in everyone. He has no form, but you have a form, right? Until you lose your identity, you cannot think of that entity. The thought of that entity is possible only if you lose your identity.
I have a form and my God has no form; I see that very well! (Laughter) How can you bridge both? We should rise above the state of individual identity, and go to the higher level of nonentity. That is the next step.
We believe that God has certain qualities or gunas, or attributes. This is saguna. But we need to move from this state to the state of nirguna, meaning ‘without attributes’. How can we perceive the nature of the Divine without attributes? The tongue is the same, whether it tastes sweet, hot, spicy, bitter or astringent tastes. Tastes are different, but the tongue is the same. Does the tongue taste sweet or hot? Of course not! All of these tastes are known to the tongue, but the tongue itself has no taste as such. The tongue is behind the ability to taste, but it has no taste itself. Similarly, saguna or attributes exist because of nirguna, God without attributes.
PUTTAPARTHI’S FUTURE
From physical perception to mental meditation, from form to formless, from attributes to a state without attributes. What next? My friends, people have been asking me, “What will happen to Puttaparthi?”
Please understand this basic spiritual truth: we are permanent. The body comes and goes, but we are immortal. Birthdays, weddings, and funerals come, but we are permanent. (Laughter) The bulb will be lit when the switch is on, and the bulb will be without light when the switch is off; but the current is permanent. Similarly, we are permanent though the bulb is temporary.
Baba says this:
Narudu Budbudamu, Neeru Narayanudu.
God is water, while man is a water bubble.
On the surface of the water, you find the water bubble. Pop! It goes back into the water again. The bubble is of water and from water, but where is the bubble? It is in the water. It is only the body that comes and goes, and you are not the body. We are eternal.
So what will happen to Puttaparthi? Almost all pilgrim centers have developed after the sage, prophet, saint, or seer withdrew from his physical body. We should not use the word ‘die’ in respect to these people. They don’t die, because they were never born.
SALUTATION OF LOVE
On the 11th of May, there was a function in Hyderabad, organised by NTV and the government of Andhra Pradesh. The title for this meeting was Smruthyanjali,meaning ‘in memory of.’ I didn’t like the title. However, I was a speaker there. (Laughter) There were also important guests present. Smruthyanjali: “Salutations to the Departed Soul” was written in big letters!
Many TV channels, newspapers, ministers, and top people from Hyderabad were there. The function was held in Jubilee Hall. Believe me, it is there on record; you can refer to any channel. NTVtelugu.com has kept it on their website. The first sentence I said was, “It is nonsense to say that this is Smruthyanjali. Stop it! This isPremanjali. It is Premanjali, not Smruthyanjali.” (Applause) It is a salutation of love.
This is not ‘in memory of’; this is a thanksgiving function. We thank Baba for having allowed us to be His devotees. We thank Him for all the blessings that He has given us. We thank Him for having given us the destiny to be born at this time, as His contemporaries. This function is an expression of gratitude. Never saySmruthyanjali. But if you want, you may say Sruthyanjali. Sruti means ‘Veda’. Sruthyanjali offers its salutations. It should be Sruthyanjali, and not Smruthyanjali.
“Mr. Anil Kumar, you are right, and we are grateful to you for correcting us,” they said. Therefore, it is not a question of saying that we are missing Him.
SWAMI DECLARED HIS SAMADHI
All holy places develop after the prophets, saints and sages withdraw from their bodies. Notice I do not say the word ‘die’. Withdrawal is based on their will; they decide when to withdraw.
A few years ago, believe me or not, I was standing in front of the Ganesh statue in Sai Kulwant Hall, and Baba said to me, “This is going to be My samadhi.” I replied, “Swami, do not frighten us like that! I cannot accept it.” I was in tears. Then Baba said, “It is bound to happen someday or another to everyone. Don’t worry, there is still time,” He said.
A couple of years ago in Kodaikanal, this topic came up again. “Swami, You said that You will be here in Your body for ninety-six years,” I said. Swami replied, “If I want, I can live more than ninety-six years; I can live for any length of time. I can quit right now if I want,” He said.
I said, “Swami, it is summer vacation. (Laughter) All the boys have come to be with You, to enjoy, to dance, to eat and have fun. Please do not make these statements, Swami.” Then He said to me, “Keep quiet, keep quiet.”.
SWAMI’S WILL PREVAILS
Swami said, “I can extend and I can quit at will.” What does it mean? It means that He withdrew exactly when He wanted.
Someone asked me, “Why is it that Swami has so many problems with His body, His heart, lungs, liver, and kidneys? Do you think these problems appeared all of a sudden? Has He been suffering from them for a while?”
These are the statements I responded with: “Alright, let’s assume that Baba had all of those problems for a considerable time. Yet, in spite of these lengthy health problems, He had been continually giving darshan, receiving letters, guiding people, and taking care of His daily workload. Surely that is proof of His Divinity. With all of these problems and at the age of eighty-five years, to continue like that is proof of His Divinity.”
Then another man asked me, “If He had all of those problems, why couldn’t He withdraw immediately? Why did He remain in the hospital for twenty seven days?” Then I told him, “If He had withdrawn immediately, you would say, ‘Oh God, now our suffering will be greater because You went too quickly!’” (Laughter)
An Avatar is close to human beings, since He is embodied in a human form, although Divine in nature. If He suddenly disappears, you might say to Him, “How could You simply walk away like that? Are You human or Divine?” You see, He allowed Himself to stay in the hospital for twenty-seven days. This was His will.
Daily, all of the doctors offered their prayers to Him before treating Him. The doctors knew that His life was in His hands. He had given them an opportunity to serve Him. A doctor’s worship is in the form of treatment to the poor and needy. So the doctors made their offering by way of treatment, and they were fully aware that everything was in His hands. It is proof to us all that nothing can force Him to return, in spite of doctors and medicine from all over the world. “You cannot stopMe. My Will will prevail.” That is Bhagavan Sri Sathya Sai Baba.
PRASHANTHI NILAYAM IS UNPARALLELED
Coming back to the main point: Bhagavan Baba made Prashanthi Nilayam a wonderful place during His lifetime. There is no place parallel to Prashanthi Nilayam. (Applause) People will ask you if Prashanthi Nilayam is the best place to live when you go back home. It is an incomparable place. Why? Here you are supported in a disciplined and regulated spiritual life. Early to bed, early to rise, makes a man healthy, wealthy, and wise. Sadhana is supported in a unique way in Prashanthi Nilayam. A regulated life is ensured in the ashram.
People do not openly discuss politics. Does anyone speak of politics in the Mandir? If he did that, people would look at him like he was a pickpocket. (Laughter) Therefore, no one will discuss matters of politics, and by that alone, fifty percent happiness is guaranteed! Politics pollute the mind at both the family and national level. The Ramayana is family level politics. (Laughter) The Mahabharata is the politics between two families. (Laughter)
Here in Prashanthi Nilayam, no one boasts. We do not find anyone who says, “I have ten crores of property!” (Laughter) Outside the gate some fellow may share with you that he has property. Then he goes on to say, “I have a car. Do you have a car? When are you going to add another floor to your house?” This kind of vulgar, meaningless competition is making our lives miserable.
SPIRITUAL LIFE IN PRASHANTHI NILAYAM
When I first came to Swami, He said, “Only exchange notes on spiritual matters.” This is satsanga, the very essence of Prashanthi Nilayam. (Applause) Here you think and talk of Swami only, not about personal bank accounts, plots, or flats.
Inside the ashram there is no television, so residents can go to sleep quite early. Most television programs show you techniques such as how to poison others, how to stab from behind, how a daughter-in-law can kill her mother-in-law without being caught, and how a father-in-law can torture the daughter-in-law constantly. (Laughter) These are the techniques taught by television serials. (Laughter) Since there is no TV here, residents are free from its negative influence.
We all eat the same food in the South Indian canteen. Even if you are a foreign secretary, there is no special sambar for you. (Laughter) The same food, canteen, and Mandir: this is spiritual communism in practice. (Applause) Spiritual socialism is practiced here in Prashanthi Nilayam. (Applause) We are equal here; no one is greater than anyone else. This is the best place, and such a place Baba designed.
What will happen to Puttaparthi? Baba has already built universities, hospitals, and many other educational institutions here. Therefore, if anyone asks you what will happen to Puttaparthi, you can say that it is growing and growing, forever and ever. (Applause)
HAVE FAITH IN SWAMI’S WORDS
Some people may ask, “What happened to Baba? Where is He?” I say, “Nothing has happened, He is in you! If you are not there, He is not there. If you are there, He is in you.” (Laughter)
My friends, let us strengthen our faith and have full confidence in Swami. Let us have full confidence in His words. Krishna made some promises in the Bhagavad Gita. Although He is not here now in a physical form, His word is kept even today. Krishna always fulfills His promises, with or without a body. He is the body and beyond the body─your body, His body, or anybody. But He is nobody. (Laughter) God can be anybody, and at the same time be nobody.
Someone may ask you, “What will happen now to the Sri Sathya Sai Organisation?” The Sathya Sai Organisation will grow more and more. It is simple, because there are top people dedicated to this Organisation, and they sat here in front of me. I thank them for their gracious presence.
You may be from Indonesia, Malaysia, or any other place on the planet; but who made you members of the Organisation? Who made you work for Him, participate in service activities, and attend bhajans? Swami’s inner voice, the same conscience, the same supreme consciousness is now working with double the energy, so the Sai Organisation will grow more and more. (Applause)
OUR LIVES ARE THE MESSAGE OF SAI
What is Sai’s message now? His message is in Sai literature available in the ashram bookstore.
His message is going to be our lives from now on. (Applause) His message is not a matter of knowledge, or a collection of facts and figures. His message is to be lived, to the letter and in the spirit, by all of us. Where is Sai’s message? It is in the lives of Sai devotees throughout the world.
Every Sai devotee stands for a metaphorical, symbolic personification of the Sai message. That is what we are supposed to be.
